Get outside!

The baby and I took a 3 mile walk and it felt great! I even got a shower in soon after as he took a nap (sometimes I have to wait for hubby to come home, if nap time isn't going very well).

Also, I got some laundry on the line. 2 loads. Tue, 24 Jan 2012 16:17:27 EST Jogging strollers rock http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4699492 Now that everyone is feeling better, we finally got a chance to use the jogging stroller a few days ago. It's awesome!!!

We live on a main road that sadly lacks sidewalks for about 1/2 in front of our house, which means off-roading 1/4 mile in either direction to reach a sidewalk. In the regular strollers it was a very bumpy ride for the baby, and he gave me a look that clearly said "what were you thinking? You've got to be kidding me!". With the jogging stroller, he actually s... Mon, 23 Jan 2012 17:03:47 EST Sidelined by a headcold. Take 2. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4661793 So right after I made my last post I got a head cold and we had a major drop in temperatures up here in New England. I've pretty much stayed in doors since the new years (I'm a stay-at-home mom with a 9 week old).

Baby and I are both feeling better now, so it's time to put those sneakers back on! Here's my plan to get in shape for the half marathon in January 2013:

* Walk 3 5K races this summer
* Walk the Tufts 10K for Women on Columbus Day
* Disney World h... Fri, 6 Jan 2012 11:24:54 EST Back to training http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4643570 I've finally started the post-baby training for the January 2013 Disney half marathon. I've done two training sessions on the road - one with baby & stroller, one without. Without is 2minutes per mile faster! And adding the ~40 pounds of pushing baby, stroller, car seat and diaper bags makes even the smallest hill a challenge. I won't need to specifically hill train this year!

And today it's the coldest day of the year so far and I didn't want the baby to have prolonged exposur... Thu, 29 Dec 2011 15:38:32 EST Losing the baby weight http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4607247 I'm not actively trying to lose the baby weight as I'm desperately trying to increase my milk supply (an ongoing issue). But despite not trying, and Thanksgiving + leftovers, I'm down 18 pounds in less than 4 weeks! That's half the baby weight gone!!!

So I'm adjusting my goals as I'm not yet exercising at all but am still losing weight. I'm going to try to drop another 26 lbs and get below 140 lbs, 8 lbs below my pre-pregnancy weight. I'm giving myself a full year to do it, and... It felt soooooooo good to get out there again!

I'm surprised by how tired I am after only two hours (and it wasn't even hot out), but I'm taking it slow. Sat, 21 May 2011 15:46:09 EST Loved the wedding http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4198612 As a former, albeit temporary, London, I had to watch the wedding this morning. And it was worth it!

Kate, of course, looked like a princess but what I found very touching was how happy Will and Kate looked together. The moment at the end in the convertible was wonderful! It really felt like this wedding reflected the couple and wasn't just about the pageantry.

I do miss London. I went to grad school there and it was so nice to see many of my old haunts on the cove... Thu, 20 Jan 2011 21:33:49 EST The Bright Side of Sleet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3941283 My plan for a couple of "miles" on the elliptical, got quashed by chores and work, but we do have to shovel the driveway before all this sleet freezes, so I'm looking on the bright side - it's cardio! And one hell of an arm workout at that! Wed, 19 Jan 2011 15:28:55 EST The project from hell is nearly done http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3938509 I've had this awful project for work that took over my life in December because my client wanted to launch January 3rd. I moved the earth and sky to be ready by their date... and they weren't. I FINALLY have what I need from them, or at least enough to launch, and the end is in sight. So if I'm not around much Thursday (or procrastinating and around too much) you'll know why.

I cannot wait for this to be done! Tue, 18 Jan 2011 20:00:56 EST Home Safe http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3922351 ~3 hours, 19 inches, and one mangled set of Christmas lights later, our driveway is clear and we are watching a DVR'd episode of Castle with Chris nursing a bruised arm and the cat velcro-d to my lap.

Oh, and sipping on a well-earned beer! Thu, 13 Jan 2011 18:16:59 EST Still trapped in Florida http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3918667 There are much worse places to be stuck! We're still at mom and dad's house in Florida, about to take them out to an early dinner as a thank you for driving us to the airport repeatedly.

Our first flight was canceled when we were about 3/4 of the way to the airport. At least the second was canceled before we left the house. Currently, we are scheduled to fly home tomorrow morning at 8:30, then we have a 2+ hour drive home from the airport, then we get to dig out our 120-foot-lon... Wed, 12 Jan 2011 17:16:15 EST New half marathon personal record - for walking! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3908242 I walked my second half marathon yesterday and to my great surprise and pleasure I knocked 14 MINUTES off my personal record!!!
244 208 334
Still can't believe it. And somehow still on my feet - we did the Magic Kingdom yesterday and Kennedy Space Center today. Tomorrow? We're staying in and off the feet!

Now, what to sign up for next? If I wasn't injured I think I could have broken 3 hours!!! Sun, 9 Jan 2011 22:09:46 EST Disney Half Marathon tomorrow! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3900315 The bags are packed, we're ready to head to the hotel. Tomorrow, up at 3am to be on a bus by 4 to the start. My husband is in the first wave of runners and will start around 5:35, and I'm in the 6th of 8 and start around 5:55.

We go from next to Epcot to the Magic Kingdom, through Tomorrowland, part of Fantasyland, through the Castle itself (so cool!!!) and out Adventureland to an access road. Fri, 7 Jan 2011 12:26:22 EST New year, slightly insane? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3887641 I've got my 2nd Disney half marathon in 2 days, and I think I'm getting a bit giddy, whereas last year I was just terrified as it was my first.

And now?

I'm considering walking 2 additional local half marathons and 2 10K's. Half I completely lost my mind? Or is it just the spirit of the season?

Perhaps I should be more worried about finishing this weekend as I'm under-trained, thanks to the 16 inches of snow we got a week ago.

334 Tue, 4 Jan 2011 09:10:43 EST "Feeling Fat" days are all in your head http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3843212 I learned a very important lesson just now.

I've been feeling fat and crampy all morning as it's that time of the month, so getting dressed I grabbed my jeans, which had just come out of the dryer, rather grumpily. Normally just out of the dryer, these jeans can be a tad tide, but loosen a lot after a little while.

I'll be damned, but I put them on and they're not tight at all! That "feeling fat" feeling was all in my head the whole time.

Lesson learned. Tue, 14 Dec 2010 10:14:33 EST New work stitching http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3832952 I started a new part-time job today. I run my own business, but don't make a lot of money at it, so I've started working a day or two a week at a local cross-stitch store! Very exciting as I'm a die-hard stitcher and have been going to a stitching group there for a while now.

I think she needs help organizing, and well, I'm a computer person, so I think I'll exceed at inventorying and all those tedious details that she hates. Fingers crossed for me! Wed, 8 Dec 2010 21:03:35 EST Unconventional Cross Training http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3829382 I've got the half marathon in less than 5 weeks and I'm not as in shape as I'd like to be because of the foot and knee problems this summer/fall. Thus cross-training is really important to get me in generally better shape to walk 13 miles.

What am I doing, you may ask? Belly dancing!

Most marathoners seem to bike or swim, but in New England in the winter - yeah, well, not so fun. So I've pulled out the old belly dancing DVDs that I haven't used in ages. And it's beco... Tue, 7 Dec 2010 08:56:21 EST Thank you, accountability http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3825713 5.2 miles, average of 36 degrees. Many, many layers worn. So not fun. This is why I announce my plans for crazy goals like this, because having to be accountable to you all gets my butt out of the house on nasty days like these!

T-5 weeks and counting till I walk my 2nd half marathon. Sun, 5 Dec 2010 16:27:39 EST Bad at blogging http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3821837 Right, so, I'm really bad at posting to this blog. I really need to do it more often. So, my goal is to write 2 entries a week for the rest of the year. As I'm training for the half marathon on January 8th, hopefully that will give me something interesting to write about! Fri, 3 Dec 2010 13:30:04 EST Change in plans http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3259041 I was planning on running today, but at the party on our deck last night my ankles were eaten alive by mosquitos. Sneakers are not going to work for the next few days.

So as I've got some enforce downtime for at least 2-3 days, time to start back up with Yoga and Callanetics - both of which I've let slide. I haven't done an active yoga program in years, though I used to go to class twice a week. It'll be really nice to get back into the breathing and stretching. Sun, 23 May 2010 10:24:16 EST no pain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3139681 I'm very happy that, despite the stiffness and weakness in my knee yesterday, I have no pain after yesterday's run! I'm not going to run again this week - don't want to push it and hurt myself before the 10K.

So, I"ll walk twice this week and do some gardening and strength training to round out the week. Maybe even some bellydancing later this week. But so far, I'm happy! Tue, 20 Apr 2010 08:24:34 EST Couch to 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=3137945 I restarted the Couch-to-5K today. I was in a bit of pain last time (a month ago), so I waited a few days after gardening this time. I'm also only going to do the runs once a week for the next few, then twice a week, building up to my 10K in late June.

Though I was THRILLED - I beat my race target pace just in today's training run!! Mon, 19 Apr 2010 19:11:05 EST Sun! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2970317 We're in the middle of a three-day sunny heatwave. It's been nearly 60 degrees the past todays and will be again tomorow. Glorious weather for March!

We've been enjoying the outside, doing some home repairs we've put off for cold weather, moved the mailbox out of the reach of snowplows (hopefully!!) and just enjoyed what we have. :)

Here's hoping your weekend was just as pleasant! Sun, 7 Mar 2010 19:27:28 EST warmth - for a day anyways http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2951791 I was very excited yesterday - it was about 50! I went jogging without gloves for the first time since last fall!

And today it's snowing again. :P Ah well, Callanetics today and some elliptical tomorrow. Then we're going skiing in a week! Woohoo! Wed, 3 Mar 2010 07:36:34 EST Olympics http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2940073 Watching the closing ceremonies now - these past 2.3 weeks have been incredible.

Here are my top Olympic moments, in no particular order:
-opening ceremonies -esp. snowboarder through the rings
-first Canadian gold in home games, won for his brother with cerebral palsey
-first american medals ever in nordic combined... 4 of them!
-Joannie Rochette - I cried
-Shaun White learned to fly
-men's gold medal hockey match - amazing!
-curling. addicting.... Sun, 28 Feb 2010 20:55:47 EST no knee pain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2932400 I'm thrilled - 30 minutes on the elliptical (longest time yet) without knee brace or ankle brace, and I'm not in pain now!

Woohoo! Fri, 26 Feb 2010 18:49:25 EST last nice day in a while http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2914331 I got a run in today to beat the storms - at least two storms on the way, which will make it rain and snow the entire rest of the week.

So - mentally preparing for the late winter doldrums and dreaming of my birthday gift, a flight to my parent's house in sunny Florida in a month to watch the shuttle lift off. Mon, 22 Feb 2010 17:20:55 EST a good morning http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2908148 Today started off so well, I had to post about it. I dropped another 1.1lbs, (down to 142.4), got a Wii Fit age 4 years younger than my real age, and the birds are back in the backyard! Sun, 21 Feb 2010 09:15:09 EST Callanetics Challenge - ending week 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2902605 Did another 10 in 10 Callanetics DVD today - my thighs are killing me after the walk/jog I did yesterday!

Tomorrow, a little elliptical time to round out the week, then more measurements on Monday! Fri, 19 Feb 2010 15:56:03 EST Callanetics Challenge - Beginning week 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2888256 Week 3 is off to a good start. 25 minutes on the elliptical yesterday, and today I did another 10 in 10 DVD.

Most likely, some shoveling snow tonight. I've switched up my routine this week cuz of Valentine's Day, so I'm trying to figure out my 2 rest days, one already gone on Sunday. Tue, 16 Feb 2010 10:59:27 EST Splurge Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2879545 I've been good all week, and today I'm allowing myself to go wine tasting and eat whatever I want! I haven't been out to eat in a month, so I'm really looking forward to this! :) Sun, 14 Feb 2010 08:27:13 EST Olympic inspiration! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2878385 I absolutely LOVE the olympics! I watch each and every one, winter and summer. I watch all the events, yes, I am even a curling fan. While I don't like professional athletes competing, I still find what these people do absolutely amazing and very inspirational. If Apolo Ono can compete in his 4th olympics at the age of what - 28? then I can finish those 20 minutes on the elliptical or squeeze in an extra bellydancing class. Sat, 13 Feb 2010 19:37:05 EST Callanetics Challenge - ending week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2873958 Did my 2nd round of callanetics this week - feeling good! Some exercises are notably easier for me as my muscles grow. I still don't have great form as I'm on the weaker side for most of the muscles, but I am noticing a marked improvement in several of them!

Tomorrow: more cardio, then take Sunday off to take a Valentine's Day trip to Connecticut for some wine tasting! Yes, I am willingly blowing my calorie budget that day and have planned for it for 2 weeks. Fri, 12 Feb 2010 12:10:13 EST Callanetics Challenge - Beginning week 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2855647 Week 2 of 5 started yesterday with 20 minutes on the elliptical (no knee or ankle braces), a record for me for time. And today, I did my first Callanetics DVD for the week, a 10 Years in 10 Hours.

Any results? Surprisingly, yes! My waist is down half an inch from last week, and I'm down half a pound!

So far so good! I can't wait to see what my stats are at the end of week 5! Mon, 8 Feb 2010 10:21:26 EST Callanetics Challenge - End of week 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2844404 I postponed this challenge one week as I got a bad cold last week, so This week is now week 1!

And today was the 2nd Callanetics workout for this week. Feeling great so far!

I'm also tracking my measurements every Monday so I can see if I really do get results. Of course, I'm also doing cardio regularly, so I will likely see results and won't be able to attribute them purely to Callanetics. But hey - I like statistics. :) Fri, 5 Feb 2010 11:09:06 EST Starting on the walk/run journey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2841270 I walked my first half marathon about 3 weeks ago, and it was conquering a huge goal for me.

But I've got the bug now - the half marathon was FUN and I want to do it again, and I want to be faster.

The problem is my left knee-cap, which likes to dislocate, so I didn't dare try it on the first half marathon - I had waaaaaay too many other worries. :)

So, now that it's over, I'm going to try sloooooowly to run/walk and I started today. Walked about 8/10 of a mi... Thu, 4 Feb 2010 16:17:30 EST Dancing! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2830431 I LOVE to dance, and for the first time in ages I danced today. Now that the half marathon is over I'm not afraid to shake up my fitness routine.

I DVR'd some workouts from the FitTV channel to try some new things, and I did an episode of Shimmy (belly dance) and Bollywood Dance Workout.

I'm feeling good, and I've worked muscles that I haven't focus don in the past year because of the half marathon training and knee issues. I can't wait to shake up the routine even more... Tue, 2 Feb 2010 11:35:00 EST Well, I got a little lazy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2821293 So, I didn't work out Friday, but I did keep a very close eye on my food the past four days. I did a Callanetics DVD today and am feeling good. Sun, 31 Jan 2010 16:03:20 EST Back in the saddle http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2810191 I think I'm finally kicking the cold that has kicked my butt for an entire week. I'm going to try a session of Callanetics tomorrow and see how I handle it, but I at least got off the sofa and out of my pyjamas today - that's a big step forward. Thu, 28 Jan 2010 18:14:47 EST Volunteering http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2778419 I'm very excited - I just signed up to volunteer next week for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I'll be doing office work next week, but I hope to also volunteer with Team in Training. I ran into so many Team in Training members from all over the country at the Disney half marathon, and was very inspired by them. It'll be great fun to man the water stops for the Team in Training members. Maybe I can work the Boston marathon training team. :) Thu, 21 Jan 2010 17:49:50 EST Callanetics Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2767932 Now that the marathon is over, it's time for new fitness goals.

My first is a short-term fitness challenge. I love my Callanetics 10 Years in 10 Days DVD, but I never actually do 10 of them. So my new challenge is to do 10 in 10 ten times over the next 5 weeks.

I started today with one run-through of the DVD and am feeling good!

And I'm adding a medium terms goal - to touch my toes again! Tue, 19 Jan 2010 15:33:27 EST No knee pain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2762315 I hopped on the elliptical today. Now, the elliptical and I have a shaky history. A few years ago, 10 minutes on the elliptical caused me immense knee pain.

Fast forward to last week - and a million times improvement in my health, not to mention walking a half marathon. I got on the elliptical with my trusty knee brace for 10 minutes and no knee pain resulted.

So today I decided to really test this.
