That's a funny idea I thought. But he went on to say that when we get up in the morning, just "spray" on a bunch of God's love and protection- it helps all the negative comments and nasty attitudes we encounter each day, just slide ride off. It works too. I tried it all week.
Woke up- spent a few minutes thinking about the positive and protective wonders of the heavens. I found that my whole day was better. ... Fri, 9 Nov 2012 20:32:46 EST What You Fancy-Does You Good http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5111615 What you fancy does you good." said an Irish grandmother. I heard this quote and thought what a wonderful insight. So often in the past I've eaten things that I really don't fancy at all. It simply wasn't good food. It wasn't particularly tasty or nutritious. So why was I eating it? Convenience, to fill up on something, to quell an emotion....but really IT just didn't work.
Since joining SP, I have been making better food choices. Reflecting on this quote, I also realize that I'm ... Tue, 23 Oct 2012 22:47:25 EST Improve Your Mood with This 2-Minute Exercise" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5108728 I just read the dailySpark Entry "Improve Your Mood with This 2-Minute Exercise." I thought : 2 minutes I can do that. What I didn't anticipate was that this was an emotional exercise.
As work has been rather stressful lately, I realized that I've been on a bit of a grump binge when it comes to work. The article suggests listing 2-3 things that I'm grateful for. While I have plenty of gratefulness when it comes to home and family life, work is another situation.

Too many ... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 16:27:12 EST A walk in the woods. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5106952 I've been reading for the the 4th time-Bill Bryson's A Walk in the Woods. This is a story about 2, rather out of shape men, who walk the Applachian Trail. It is funny, touching and inspiring. They seem to have just decided one morning to walk the entire AT.
And did.

I spent the weekend in Hocking Hills, Ohio. My friends and I rented a cabin and took several walks in the woods. While it's not the AT, it's a beautiful area to hike. Even though the wearther was rainy and o... Sun, 21 Oct 2012 10:56:58 EST Sad Week at Work-prayers needed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5098435 This past week was so sad for several of my students and their friends. A young lady's mother died suddenly. My student did not hear the news from a trusted adult or counselor-no with modern technolgy-she was alerted of her mother's passing by text-during class.
Another student in one of my classes lost a baby sister. suddenly. without warning. He showed me her obituary page on the funeral home's website.
A former student-who bagged my groceries on Saturday-told me his premat... Sun, 14 Oct 2012 10:04:27 EST Taste"Buds"...or are they????? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5088845 I love the commercial for FiberOne cereal with the TasteBuds wearing red knitwear-talking about bacon, cookies, ice cream.....The woman sitting on the couch talking to her husband says-This FiberOne will tame her TasteBuds.....He disagrees-but she's right-the Buds start singing a new song about crunchy deliciousness, after one taste.

It seems that's exactly what I've had to do to my "Buds"-trick them a wee bit-with tasty alternatives to my usual higher calorie cravings. One of my goals is to eat two fruits/vegetable a day. It's getting easier to eat this with the help of SP. I made a yummy apple, blueberry, cherry oatmeal crumble. Made with a little sugar, a lot of oatmeal, a little butter topped on all those fruits. They baked up very nicely. The cherries and blueberries provided a nice juiciness and natural sweetness-why it is was practically dessert! Mon, 1 Oct 2012 21:31:35 EST Dag! 11 days for 1 pound http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5070027 Well-It's better than going the other direction-although the truth is I did win and lose that pound several times in the last 11 days-before I determined TODAY that IT was officially GONE. This is harder than I thought-Coming to terms with my snacking is harder than I thought too. ( I didn't think I ate that often or that much ) SP has helped me be more conscious of my eating activities. It's so humbling to track 3-4 cookies or 6 slices of bread .....I'm sure one day I'll have to log 5-6... Sat, 22 Sep 2012 08:00:58 EST Quilts http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5063853 I've made quilts for many years. Not showpieces -but heart pieces. I'm sitting on one now that I made when my father was dying of cancer. It's the "by the light of moon-it will be alright" quilt. Jimmy Buffet has a song with those lyrics (Frenchman for a Night)...The design includes moons-of course and night skies and tiny pieced brightly colored inner border. It has always brought comfort to me-even though I cried a river while making it.

...My daughter came by this evenin... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 20:26:24 EST Confidence http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5059417 Learning to navigate this world is pretty tough mentally after knee replacement. I didn't realized how scared I'd been of all the hazards until a recent injury. But after a through check out- it was determined that I'll make it! So I realized today that just as I faced the surgery in a fearless manner-sort of- so must I face the real world again- FEARLESS. If I fall or get knocked to the ground by some ding-a-ling...well there's always a remedy.
So how do I replace fear with confiden... Fri, 14 Sep 2012 17:27:00 EST Going Back to Work http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5056653 I enjoy my work-however returning to work after the knee replacements gave me a weee bit of anxiety. My biggest fear is falling or getting knocked over. I work in a high school-sometimes the students are rowdy in the hallway. I should probably have my walker there as a visible sign to stay back. Yesterday, a student who was angry with me, was reckless as she exited my room and slammed into my right knee- I was so upset by this. I had explained to the class about my situation and my need ...
