SUZRAI's SparkPeople Blog SUZRAI's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Hello world As a youngster I thought that I'd never see the year 2000. Nobody I knew should live past 40. and if I saw 2000, I'd be 50. My how things change.

Here it is 2015, today I am 65 and hope to have many more years ahead. My mom died within a week of turning 65, but my dad lived to 92, so there are some good genes too.

starting tomorrow my daughters and I are weighing in and the tracking begins.... if the good Lord allows, I should see year 66 with less poundage...
<... Tue, 31 Mar 2015 09:49:04 EST Again, really? AGAIN....Starting over.......

I've taken one step forward and 3/4's of a step back. So here we go again......first step is tracking food and scheduling time to exercise.

I've regained most of the weight I lost, gotten out of the routine of exercising, and returned to stress/emotional eating.

I blame it on the fact that work has taken over my life.

Lately I have been able to blame the eating on taking predinsone which makes me want to eat anything i... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 12:30:07 EST New Year's wisdom Since many of us are looking at the new year and goal setting I wanted to share something I got from work. It applies individually and also if you are part of a team:

249 “First, note the progress made…over the past year — the major accomplishments and the small wins, too. And communicate the list broadly. All too often, progress gets ignored as people move from one task or project to another. Simply noting what was accomplished and how it contributed to the goals can h... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 07:38:04 EST Keep on keeping on.... Where to start?? 247 Before I do I want to thank my loyal friends for stopping by my SP page with goodies and greetings. You guys are the greatest!

Now, only read this post if you have the nerve to listen to a list of life events you don't want. I am not complaining there is a saying "Is it good news or bad news?" This is "just news" because "it is what it is".

432 I didn't fall off the planet, haven't quite fallen off the wagon, but have been expe... Sun, 16 Dec 2012 12:29:17 EST Food for Thought I was sent this email today and while at first glance it sounds funny it's really not very flattering for the older folks. I admit there is some truth to having done stupid things in my younger years but overall I don't agree with it, do you?

You don't get smarter as you get older. There just aren't any stupid things left that you haven't already done. Tue, 27 Nov 2012 08:00:10 EST Bored in the walmart check out line? Try this.. A RETIREE'S LAST TRIP TO WAL-MART (I borrowed this from a fellow sparker so some of you have seen it, like Lise, but it was too funny not to share for those who haven't seen it!)

338 I was at my local Wal-Mart buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Jake, the Wonder Dog. I was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had an elephant?

So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 09:07:20 EST Another Disney Day 30 Okay I didn't walk 5 miles but at least 3 miles yesterday. With my son John, David and I were treated to a preview of the newest part of the new Fantasyland expansion at Walt Disney World.

We grew up using our imagination, this park has taken those images and made them real.

As I walked through I thought about how it would look through the eyes of a child. Little girls are sure to love the new Belle greeting that has audience participation and Ariels ad... Fri, 26 Oct 2012 11:06:32 EST Epcot Food & Wine Festival 311 So, I walked about 5 miles yesterday but it was at the food and wine festival so not sure how many calories were burned considering the calorie intake.

Missi was the presenter for one of the wine tasting seminars. Her wine was Chianti and she shared some of her photos of the estate in Tuscany that she visited. I am so proud of her she did a great job. That was our first stop of the day and we walked literally from one end of Epcot to the other end to get to the semi... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 15:33:40 EST What did you say your medical problem was? I "borrowed" this from another sp person:

282 Two medical students were walking along the street when they saw an old man walking with his legs spread apart. He was stiff-legged and walking slowly.

One student said to his friend: "I'm sure that poor old man has Peltry Syndrome. Those people walk just like that."

The other student says: "No, I don't think so. The old man surely has Zovitzki Syndrome. He walks slowly and his legs are apart, just as... Sun, 14 Oct 2012 11:16:52 EST By the Grace of God 390 I dodged a bullet..... the Dr. determined after reading the follow up mamograms that all is okay and credits it with positioning being different. they don't even have me doing a 6 month checkup.

For those who reached out to me and prayed, a big thank you and 247

Praise God! 288

suz 88 Thu, 4 Oct 2012 19:42:06 EST blah blah day so I've been indulging in eating, but not too much but to make it worse I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat and ears stopped up, and when I don't feel good I want to eat.
Then I got a call this afternoon that they need to do a "recall mamogram with sonogram as needed" because they seem to have found something.
So, as the emotional eater I am NOW I want to finish off the butter pecan ice cream, eat the chocolate chip cookie that I know is tucked away in the kitchen, have ... Wed, 3 Oct 2012 20:28:42 EST Joke time 282 Kevin had shingles.

Those of us who spend much time in a doctor's office should appreciate this! Doesn't it seem more and more that physicians are running their practices like an assembly line?

Here's what happened to Kevin:

Kevin walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Kevin said: 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat.

Fifteen minute... Thu, 27 Sep 2012 15:14:52 EST Gotta get those priorities straight 274 A woman was sitting at a bar enjoying an after work cocktail with her girlfriends when Steven, a tall, exceptionally handsome, extremely sexy, middle-aged man entered. He was so striking that the woman could not take her eyes off him.

The young-at-heart man noticed her overly attentive stare and walked directly toward her (as men will). Before she could offer her apologies for staring so rudely, he leaned over and whispered to her, "I'll do anything, absolutely ... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 18:22:04 EST Grandmother joke ~ don't mess with older ladies A grandmother is giving directions to her grown grandson who is coming to visit with his wife.
41 "You come to the front door of the apartment. I am in apartment 301. There is a big panel at the front door. With your elbow, push button 301. I will buzz you in.
Come inside, the elevator is on the right. Get in, and with your elbow push 3. When you get out, I'm on the left. With your elbow, hit my doorbell."

40 "Grandma, that sounds easy, but, why ... Fri, 21 Sep 2012 21:34:30 EST starting over daily..... I've decided that I need to take the attitude that I am starting over daily. Yes, it's okay, in fact it's great and rewarding to look back at the progress but past progress does not current progress make.

Since being home from my cruise I have had the wonderful experiences of dining with my daughter, dining with my SP friend, dining with my cousin and tonight is dining with the family.

190 Now I grew up with dining experiences with family and friends being on... Thu, 20 Sep 2012 10:04:07 EST The Empress Tea Room~ Victoria What a naughty girl I am.....Okay years ago I heard about The Empress Tearoom and wistfully said, someday I'd like to do that. My photo is not at all appropriate for a dieting woman but it is for a wish come true. It goes to show that anything is possible.

Here's how it started.....
"The relaxing and enjoyable ritual of taking Afternoon Tea has been an unremitting love affair at The Fairmont Empress sinc... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 19:23:32 EST Why I do not sew Okay here is your laugh for the day....

periodically I take the cushions out of our leather couch to switch them around because they get squished from seating patterns (what a "work out" this is). So the leather of one had a few stitches that had come out.... I figured I'd sew them back while I had the cushion out.

About 20 minutes after I had put the couch back together for some reason I thought about the sewing needle. I couldn't remember what I'd done with it and co... Sat, 18 Aug 2012 14:22:17 EST Suzrai's butterfly Since I have no interesting story for my SP name and I am not saying this is interesting but if you notice I often post the butterfly.

The reason I do is because to me it represents many things. Here are a few: one is love, another is freedom, feeling lighter than air and mobility. It is also strong but fragile and beautiful as many people are.

So now you know .... the rest of the story.

Suz 88
Fri, 17 Aug 2012 16:45:49 EST Defined by the size of your clothes???? Watch out..... Okay, here's what I have found, one should not expect to be defined by the size of their clothes (unless you have a mean streak of mental self sabotage).

Have you noticed that some of the manufacturers have changed their sizes?

Having worn Plus sizes for years I thought I was well informed but oh how wrong that can be. Silly me I thought that 1X =18W-20W, 2X =-22W-24W, 3X=26W-28W.

Yesterday I found something new, "0 X", that is a zero and "X" not to be confu... Sat, 11 Aug 2012 13:33:08 EST No exercise yesterday ~ what qualifies as a good excuse? So I didn't exercise yesterday because I wasn't feeling well. Today I wonder if that was really a good excuse. If you are like me and really don't like to exercise anyway, how do you know when not feeling well qualifies as a good excuse?

David has been fighting something and he's been on and off antibiotics for about 3-5 weeks now. He has COPD so I often avoid things that he has but yesterday I realized maybe not this time.

Trying to fight it off I fixed 2 "airborne"... Sun, 5 Aug 2012 12:27:49 EST Fall off the blog fall off the goal 361 So, you may have noticed I haven't been on the daily know what that means, something is distracting me from my goal, so it's not a good sign.

In the past 2 weeks I have been "all over the board" with my thoughts and actions. I have not exercised daily. Regarding food I have said "forget it, it's not worth it", "I can and will do this", "why am I not doing better", "I don't care I want to eat it anyway", "I have done well but I should have done better" and... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 10:38:00 EST Dinner with Davonne I think I really surprised Davonne with the amount of food and the low number of calories tonight. She is concerned about carbs and we talked about it and how the rice and tomatoes overall aren't a lot of calories and have some good carbs.
We had 4.5 oz of tilapia, 492 1/2 cup each of green beans, 371 yellow rice and 1/3 cup of stewed tomatoes. 370 All that on one of the smaller size plates, you know the size we all used back in the dark ages, is really ... Tue, 17 Jul 2012 22:58:23 EST 7 day mini challenge I agreed to a 7 day 3 pound weight lose challenge with my daughter Davonne

If any of my SP friends would like to join in you are welcome (including those that are already in the summer challenge).

192 We weight in tomorrow morning and by July 20 we are to be 3 pounds lighter. For me I figure that means I am not allowed to go over on calories and need to increase my exercise in order to meet ... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 16:33:31 EST It's all in how you understand what is said........ I got this email today and is so true that what one person says and what another understands is not the same...what a great example........

"There was a bit of confusion at the store this morning. When I was ready to pay for my groceries, the cashier said, "Strip down, facing me."
I made a mental note to complain to my congressman about Homeland Security definitely being out of control, but I did just as she'd instructed. <img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeopl... Sat, 23 Jun 2012 17:54:23 EST those late night snacks Okay, I don't know if this will help but here's a new thing that I am trying. Many of us seem to struggle with late night snacks.
Last night I had a late night snack after midnight and it put me over on calories for yesterday. Then I thought about eating/tracking patterns. Typically if I go over one day then I just say okay you messed up the next day you have to do better. The problem with that is that the next day I have my full range of calories available so I can eat up to the max and... Wed, 13 Jun 2012 11:59:15 EST WHY MEN ARE SELDOM DEPRESSED I received this email today and thought I'd share for some laughs:

Men Are Just Happier People -- What do you expect from such simple creatures?
Your last name stays put.
The garage is all yours.
You can play with toys all your life. 266
Car mechanics tell you the truth.
Same work, more pay.
Wrinkles add character.
Grey hair is distinguishing.
One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons.
A five-day vac... Tue, 12 Jun 2012 12:29:33 EST How easy it is to, among other things....... not exercise For whatever reason, I'll blame it on the rain, no pool yesterday, raining again today, no pool. And then you realize, wait today is Tuesday, not Monday! How many days have I missed?? I don't remember not exercising on Sunday but I don't remember doing it either and I didn't track it so, oh my gosh if I don't get in gear today that will be 3 days no exercise!!!!
Shame on me if I let that happen...
Tue, 29 May 2012 12:26:16 EST Thank you Thank you for the prayers and good wishes.

John's pain was really bad and the meds wore off within 3 hours so they have changed to oxycodene (SP?) and that is working much better. I've been told days 5-6 are the worst but didn't share that little tidbit with him.

Remember I mentioned he is skinny so can eat anything. You would laugh at the 'fridge. I have baby food, pudding, sherbet, mac and cheese, popcicles, ice cream, pudding cake (to mix with the ice cream) and ham... Thu, 24 May 2012 20:06:43 EST today John's surgery went well. He is in a lot of pain but can already tell he will be breathing better.
Yesterday his tonsils were taken out, turbinates were decreased and deviated septum fixed. Hopefully that will cure his sleep apnea. The doctors could hardly believe a 26 yr. old skinny man would have that, now I think we know why.
This is his 3rd surgery (2 hernia repairs) in less than a year.
God has a way of working things out for the best regardless of what we may think. Joh... Tue, 22 May 2012 13:33:40 EST Accountability for week of May 13 Good morning all..finally back in the pool yesterday it was cool but refreshing. I am really enjoying the pool more than the treadmill and it only took me 15+ years of living here to use it.

Yesterday I stayed within calorie range! Out of the last 7 days 2 days were actually a little bit under because I was using the old range before I added exercise. If I count them within range it makes 5 out of 7 days! I felt like I'd done really poorly on food this week so I was hard on mysel... Sun, 20 May 2012 11:59:24 EST Do they ever think about what they are saying?? First, on a positive note let me say that it seems most of my SP friends have a really great support system but I've read several blogs lately about friends and family saying or doing things that hurt feelings. We can choose to laugh or cry.

I loved the blog about the weight limit on the treadmills at the gym...hello they are supposed to be made for all sizes and weights. It reminded me of a time when I was talking with a "friend" about being out at Epcot. They have a place where... Tue, 15 May 2012 10:38:50 EST checking in ~ the pool, back and oh yeah, calories yesterday Okay so in my last blog I talked about the pool warming up to where I can exercise there......leave it to FL weather to change it up. We had 1 rain and the pool temp dropped a little, but the next one blessed us (we really do need the rain here in FL) with several inches (as measured by the higher water level in the pool) and that one made the pool uninviting to me..... back to the treadmill yesterday. Maybe water today.

Calories yesterday...within range even with junk food!
... Fri, 11 May 2012 10:55:04 EST The pool is 84 degrees!!!! So I have this big hole in my backyard that I seldom venture into but I resolved that I will do some water workouts when the solar heating gets it warm enough. It hit 84 degrees on Saturday. I am not sure if it's as good but I can tell you that treading water for 30 minutes is a lot easier (and les sweaty and cooler) than 30 minutes on the treadmill! I got 35 minutes in today which means I have been in the big hole in the back yard more in 4 days that all last summer.
88 Tue, 8 May 2012 18:41:24 EST half right and half wrong Yesterday was a half right and half wrong day..I did 20 reps with upper body weight pulls and 1 mi on the treadmill. Then I proceeded to give in to the late night munchies. I just finished the tracking and was over about 300 calories.

Here is the good news it wasn't as bad as the binge (which I have very seldom done in the past) last Friday when, for those of you who have just "met" me, I asked for an accountability partner after I ate more than double my allowed calories in one da... Sat, 5 May 2012 12:53:14 EST daily report I am reporting in, I stayed within calorie/protein/fat/carb range yesterday and did 3/4 mi on the tread mill.
I also did some weight stuff on a multi functional machine we have. I don't really know how to use it but figured if I pulled the bar down from over my head it should help stretch the back. Not sure that was such a good idea.
88 Thu, 3 May 2012 11:11:10 EST What was Santa's best gift? A team question was "What was the best gift that Santa ever gave you" and since I don't know if my answer to that is shared with all my friends I thought it would be fun and interesting to ask this of my other friends.
Here is my reply:
Christmas was always special for us but the ones I remember most are the ones I've enjoyed with my children. It was not like it is today when kids are always getting new things, in our house their birthday and Christmas were the only times they got ... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 12:48:49 EST New Day Today will be better Sat, 28 Apr 2012 16:20:02 EST retro actions Funny I was never really a person to go on eatting binges until recently. I have a thyroid problem and am very sedentary and out of shape. My problems were overeating on portions (don't yo love the man size portions you get when yo go out to eat?) and making poor food choices in general.

This has been a rough week for me lots of stress and unknowns in my future. Someone posted the question "do you self sabatoage"? My answer today is yes. I got the scale started in the right directi... Fri, 27 Apr 2012 18:51:06 EST Not so guilt free today So I posted yesterday about Monday success and then last night it all fell apart.....
If I'd just gone to bed instead of sitting down with my hubby to watch TV. When the cravings are with me and I see someone else eating, I am not so successful. Went way over my calorie allowance. As usual I could have had more protein but fat and carbs were exceeded.

When cravings hit me it's like anything I see I want (especially if he has left the Lay's original potato chips out on the coun... Wed, 18 Apr 2012 15:09:20 EST Guilt free Okay so yesterday evening was one of those when you just crave ice cream. Anyone ever have one of those???? So I gave in but felt guilty.
However, today, when I updated my tracking in spite of giving in I am still within my daily goals! The moral of the story is track as you go and be guilt free!
88 Tue, 17 Apr 2012 10:51:46 EST Saturday starts Saturday, a new day and a good day to be thankful for new beginnings. 88 Sat, 14 Apr 2012 09:59:21 EST 3 days! I'm on a roll!!! Made it to 1 mile today in 24 minutes..... 88 Fri, 13 Apr 2012 13:37:03 EST 2 days straight! Well compared to the numbers I see from fellow sparkers, this seems to be a "drop in the bucket" but I do not have a goal to run a 5K or work out for 2 hours a day; my goal is to get moving.
Today makes 2 days in a row on the treadmill. I did 3/4 mile each day 22 minutes yesterday and 19 today!
It's a start. 88 Thu, 12 Apr 2012 16:36:46 EST trophy time Today i get another SP trophy.
This is good news and bad news.
It shows I have been using sp, have been tracking food but that is not enough, because I have not lost the weight I should have so that is not enough so I need to get moving.........
A new day, a new start. 249 Fri, 6 Apr 2012 13:02:30 EST One day at a time I had a small victory last night...I passed on a late night snack, YEA! Thu, 5 Apr 2012 11:33:29 EST Off to work I go???? Okay my 3 months off is coming to an end....the stress level has been better, but the thought of going back is overwhelming...... Wed, 28 Mar 2012 18:27:57 EST walking If nothing else just getting out an moving is an achievement for me. Tonight I joined my husband David and our "girls" Lexi and Lola for a mile walk. Slow but done, this is a good step for me. Sun, 19 Feb 2012 19:11:44 EST Loose water weight ---just kidding It's a hard way to loose weight but evidently I picked up one of those 24 hour bugs. It will definitely help relieve you of your "water weight"......
Today is a better day and i am thankful for that!!! Fri, 17 Feb 2012 08:51:47 EST Cold weather feel good soup recipe One of my team members mentioned feeling a little under the weather so I shared our family remedy soup, Chicken noodle soup with shells. The key is the Italian cheese gives it a completely different taste. I haven't figured out the calories but you can probably adjust the recipe/portion size accordingly to meet your goals. This recipe is for a whole family:

1 large and 1 regular size can of Campbell's Chicken noodle soup cook as directed in a large sauce pan

1 box (1 lb...
