SUEPERSTARS's SparkPeople Blog SUEPERSTARS's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I'm back! Hi everyone!

It has been a long time since I've been on sparkpeople, and even longer since I've blogged. I'm not even sure how many of my spark friends are still around!

My how things have changed.

I took a break from sparkpeople. I'd lost pretty much all the weight and was doing well maintaining, so I focused elsewhere. I still tracked exercise on here, though, I just didn't track food or check in with people.

Then I started gaining weight. Howev... Tue, 13 Jan 2015 09:46:11 EST Moving Forward Hi sparkfriends,

Its been over a month since I've blogged. And what a month its been. Its sad to realize how excited I was in my last blog (my birthday blog), to only have the rug pulled out from under my feet 5 days later.

I don't want to dwell, that's not the point of this blog. I'll just leave it as the last month has been the worst month of my life. Its why I haven't been around much - I just haven't been able to. I haven't been able to exercise as much as normal, tr... Sat, 8 Sep 2012 11:11:18 EST Thoughts for my next year Warning - this is a long blog, but I haven't blogged anything in a while so I have a lot of things that I want to get out.

Besides, its my birthday, and I'll blog if I want to! 44

I get to work from home today, but not because its my birthday. I'm working from home because there's work being done on our complex and someone needed to be home to let workers in. I like working from home, so that's good! Not so good... the work that's being done is plumbing, so ... Fri, 3 Aug 2012 12:45:53 EST Penultimate Weight Loss Goal I did it!!!

Today, I finally passed into the "normal BMI" category!!!! 104

I don't think I've been "normal" since high school!!! (Well, I'm not normal ever, but normal BMI lol.)

My original Wii Fit deadline was May 17, so I'm exactly 3 weeks late. Not too bad. I could have gotten here faster, but I also enjoy living my life... eating chocolate, drinking wine and beer, going out for dinner, drinking wine, oh and some cheese (although I've really cut... Thu, 7 Jun 2012 16:13:28 EST Goals for June, 2012 Its been about 2.5 months since I've written a blog! Wow, time flies. I also need a new profile pic! lol

I was reading a fitness article (sorry, can't remember where it is right now), and it was describing how there are different types of people. The author described one kind of person as "a creature of habit." And that phrase really struck a chord with me - I am totally a creature of habit. I don't exercise every morning because I'm so gung-ho to get out of bed and work out, I do ... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 12:21:31 EST Another Wii Fit Plus Goal Met! This morning I weighed in and was 77.6 kg - my Wii Fit Plus goal was 77.7. Set back on September 30, I had till March 30, so I beat it by 2 weeks!

I realize now that my Wii Fit plus goals are much more realistic than the goals I had set for myself - 175 by Dec 31? lol - not so much. This is better, and healthier, even though it can be frustrating sometimes.

I love using my Wii Fit for weigh-ins. I've had mine for almost 3 years and I can see how I've yo-yoed. But even mo... Sat, 17 Mar 2012 11:05:51 EST The evil entity known as Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Fudge Cake It was a person's birthday at work yesterday, and so the office manager baked him a cake. From scratch. Using Nigella Lawson's Chocolate Fudge Cake recipe.

Damn, was it good. I enjoyed it immensely. I ate it slowly and SAVOURED EVERY BITE!

Then I calculated the calories. 740. In one not-so-small piece of delicious chocolatey goodness. YIKES!

I was a bit upset with myself, but I didn't freak out. I knew that I probably should not have eaten the whole thing, to... Fri, 2 Mar 2012 11:29:37 EST Today is my 6 month SparkVersery! 516 Today is my 6 month SparkVersary. A lot has happened for me in the last 6 months, some crazy, amazing things. I always knew I was capable, but for many reasons, I just wasn't doing what I should be doing. I made lots of excuses: some had a bit of validity, but in the end, they were still excuses.

I owned up to the fact that I am the one in control of what I put in my mouth, no one else. Even if my husband orders pizza every day, I do not have to eat it (as much as I... Tue, 28 Feb 2012 17:15:10 EST My Amazing Weekend I had an amazing weekend, for many, many reasons.

As I've been losing weight, and finding more and more success with small goals, I've been more willing (or less afraid, maybe) to start and try more things, to actually do things that I've been thinking about for a while. This weekend - I did TWO. Two major things, for me, that I'd been thinking about for a while.

First - on Thursday night I took a knife skills class. Essentially, its a class where you're shown how to use... Mon, 27 Feb 2012 11:59:48 EST What's your focus? A quote from an article I read on really struck me:

"One of my philosophies is that 'Whatever we focus on will grow'. So instead of focusing on the negatives, I am encouraging people to focus on happiness. When you concentrate your effort, just like an athlete going to a boot camp, you accelerate your results." ~ Edwin Edebiri

3--what-is-the-10-days-of-happiness-ca
mpaign

Focus on the... Wed, 15 Feb 2012 15:28:38 EST Dominican - Pics I've finally had a chance to get the pics off my cameras. Here's a few:

Day one: the obligatory shot of my feet, but taken while I was floating in the pool... that counts as exercise, right?

The beach near our resort...

The drink me... Thu, 2 Feb 2012 22:04:42 EST Perceptions of Self A week or so ago I came across a blog... maybe one of my friends had commented on it so I saw it in my friend feed, maybe it was a popular blog, I'm not really sure, but it struck me. A woman was so excited because she'd just hit one-derland!

She posted a photo of herself, too.

My first thought "wow, she looks GREAT"

Then I continued to read the blog. She said that she was now 198 pounds, and then a bit later she mentioned she's 5 foot 8.

Huh... I... Wed, 1 Feb 2012 11:59:38 EST Dominican Republic - Vacation Goals I'm leaving tomorrow for an all-inclusive vacation in the Dominican Republic.

I want this to be a healthy & fun vacation - who says it can't be both, right? No matter what you think of as fun, it can be both.

So here are my goals (and what I'm going to do to accomplish them). There are five:

1 - EAT WELL

265 choose mostly healthy foods

493 indulge only in bad-for-you foods that I really enjoy

190</em... Fri, 20 Jan 2012 14:20:51 EST Halfway Point!!! I passed the half way mark today... 1 lb less than half way, to be exact!!!

I also recorded my lowest ever weight on my Wii Fit, and I've had it since 2009!!!

We also had our first real snow of winter, which also made me happy. I'm going away in 8 days to the Dominican Republic, so I want it to be nasty and cold here while I'm away. It can get nice out again when I return! lol

That's it for today. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! Fri, 13 Jan 2012 16:09:07 EST Moving Forward I've been thinking about this blog for about a week, and even started writing it yesterday, but I've been really busy: crazy day at work yesterday, away for the holidays, still not much sleep (thyroid meds were adjusted, I'm just waiting to feel it), and a friend staying with us, so I haven't really had a chance. And I'm glad because I think I may have finally sorted out what it is I want to say.

I want to look back at 2011 and as objectively as possible, see what worked for me and... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 14:08:31 EST Mid Month update - and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Hi everyone,

I'm in the middle of packing to go visit my family for Christmas. We're leaving tomorrow morning!

I meant to write this blog earlier in the week but I didn't, for a few reasons:

1) I've been busy at work. Usually that's not a problem cause I can write it in bits and pieces, but I've been busy.

2) I've been VERY tired. I haven't slept through the night once in the last 6 weeks. Man does that ever have an impact on concentration and day-... Tue, 20 Dec 2011 21:32:10 EST Fabulous Weekend Coming Up!!!! I am officially no longer allowed to freak out about weight gain during my time of the month. 246

I just weighed myself again this morning, and I've lost 4.5 pounds, which means I'm still ahead of the game!!! And here I thought I had no chance in hell of making my -5% goal for Dec 31!!!

Another great thing happened this morning on my Wii fit... for the first time EVER, I had PERFECT BALANCE while my weight was being checked! I did a little happy dance for t... Fri, 9 Dec 2011 11:02:34 EST Grrrr... I gained 3 pounds. 198

part of that is due to the wonderful time of the month that I'm experiencing right now, but not much. Maybe 1 pound. Maybe, maybe not.

I was pissed off this morning when I saw that. And pissed off that it was too cold for me to go out for a run. So I decided to do the Wii Fit Free run today instead. 30 minutes of running in my living room.

it was TORTURE! lol I can't believe how BORED I was getting, how much more I enjoy being... Wed, 7 Dec 2011 14:32:08 EST Personal 30 day challenges I've been watching a lot of TED Talks lately, and one of them has really inspired me. I was watching it back in early October or so.

Matt Cutts: Try something new for 30 days.

ething_new_for_30_days.html

Watch it - its only 3 1/2 minutes long. (Actually just check out the whole website - there is so much on there that I've found inspirational, motivational, funny, etc.)

His speech is based ... Wed, 30 Nov 2011 12:40:55 EST Yawn.... Reward update:
I bought myself a heart rate monitor - thanks for the tips, Susan! I've used it a couple of times now and I think its great! Now, I just have to get off my butt and exercise before I can see whether its had a great impact or not. (Yawn....)

Next "big" reward for 6 weeks from now:
I'm thinking new swimwear for my vacation!

And big BIG BIG reward news: I found out on the weekend that my sister-in-law is going to be climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro with her... Tue, 29 Nov 2011 16:34:43 EST Reward... I just got the email with the new diet strategy for the next 2 weeks. I can't believe it, its already been 12 weeks since I joined!
252

This new strategy is all about rewards, and how you should reward your good behaviour as a way of keeping motivation up.

So now the question is... what can I use as a reward?

Vacation? Well, we already booked a vacation for the end of January - we're going away with all my in-laws to Punta Cana. I've never bee... Sat, 19 Nov 2011 15:32:54 EST Today is my day. I'm in diet stage 3 - lifestyle changes. The first part of this stage is about motivation.

I started working on my motivation board: I've got all sorts of images and phrases and articles and so on that I've found in magazines, ready for me to collage, and then I had a crazy week and weekend, so that isn't done yet.

The second part is to find a motivational quote to use as a personal motto. I looked through the quotes and found lots of them motivational, but nothing that ... Tue, 8 Nov 2011 10:54:32 EST Lessons of the week, so far I'm really enjoying work right now - I'm a contract worker, and the contract I'm on right now usually ends up with me working only 1 or 2 days a week. Normally, I'd want to work more, but I'm really enjoying it now.

I got up this morning, and WENT FOR A RUN AGAIN!!!! 312

Even more impressive, I went outside, even though its only about 7º C (45º F for you Americans!), windy, and drizzling! But I still did it. And I feel great! I did the same route as I did on ... Wed, 26 Oct 2011 13:14:46 EST Amazing, Awesome, Productive Sunday and its only 1 pm! I did it! I went running today!!! I haven't run since I played soccer about 15 years ago (yikes!).

312

I woke up this morning around 9, after a good night sleep! 102
(I don't usually sleep very well, thyroid related issue.)

I made a healthy breakfast!
(A definite change after the stuffed chicken breast I made last night for dinner that was essentially covered in fondue! It was delicious, but not so healthy! lol And the huge amo... Sun, 23 Oct 2011 13:23:25 EST Slacker... Well, the past two days have not been very productive. 198

I walked to work both days, so I got "enough" cardio, but i didn't do any strength training. And on a very positive note, I've noticed that my walk to work is much less tiring, sweat-inducing, etc, than it used to be!!! 244

Yesterday was supposed to be arms and core, but I let myself "leave it till later" and then it didn't get done. It doesn't help that my left wrist has been bothering me... Tue, 18 Oct 2011 21:44:15 EST Moving Forward... This morning when I weighed in on my Wii Fit, I was very excited. You see, I'm now down to the weight I was before I was diagnosed with any thyroid problems! Before the Graves' Disease (autoimmune hyperthyroidism) and before the cancer! 244

Yes, I gained a lot of weight from my thyroid treatments. But was it all the medication's and surgery's fault? HELL NO. To be fair, when I first started the medication for the Graves', it was new to me and it literally was slowing dow... Sat, 15 Oct 2011 14:02:44 EST Inertia Newton's First Law of Motion states that a body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will remain in motion with a constant velocity, unless acted upon by a force. This law is also called the law of inertia.

(link to source of definition

on%27s+laws+of+motion
)

Its important to note that in this context, velocity refers to the vector measurement (physics) which includes both speed and direction, but also ... Wed, 12 Oct 2011 16:01:23 EST Thanksgiving weekend wrap-up Overall it was a very successful Thanksgiving weekend. 429

Saturday we went for Thanksgiving dinner at my in-laws'. They're Italian, so in addition to the usual turkey / potatoes / stuffing, there was sausages, antipasto, etc. Good thing there was also a lot of grilled vegetables! I did eat too much, but I ate too much stuffing, which is my favourite part of the meal. I took maybe 2 tbsp of mashed potatoes (seriously!) and lots of grilled veggies, specifically because... Mon, 10 Oct 2011 11:38:33 EST More awareness - paying attention when I'm eating I recognized something new in myself tonight, while eating dinner.

I put my food on my plate, a good amount, too, not a skimpy "diet" amount, but a good amount. And I accounted for it in my counters. And as I'm eating, I noticed that as my plate got more and more empty, that I started thinking about "oh no, should I get more" or "will there be more for me to have seconds" and all those sorts of thoughts.

And you know what? I'm proud of myself tonight because when I real... Fri, 7 Oct 2011 21:26:47 EST Inspiration Steve Jobs passed away yesterday, and many people are re-posting links to his Stanford graduation commencement speech from June 2005. I re-watched it on TED talks and he really had some great things to say - things that I don't want to forget.

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most im... Thu, 6 Oct 2011 12:00:23 EST oh Pizza... how I love you.

up almost 2 pounds this week... enough said. I must eat less pizza!

Oh and Thanksgiving is coming up this weekend. I'm going to work hard to make sure I don't slide backwards. Tue, 4 Oct 2011 17:19:31 EST Wii Fit - GOAL! Today I got to my goal weight / BMI that I'd set on my Wii Fit! I've had it for 2 years, and this is the first time I've actually gotten to a goal, and ahead of schedule, too! Unfortunately, I don't remember when I set the goal, so I don't know how much I beat it by or anything. Today, I set a new Wii Fit + goal: -10.0 kg in 6 months. I can do it! I'm going to add this new goal to my spark page so that I can remember this goal and its end date, and see how well I do.

Have a great ... Fri, 30 Sep 2011 11:02:48 EST Pimp My (P)ride - 21 days in I'm so glad I started this challenge because at the start, we measured our waist, arms, thighs, calves, chest, etc.

Well, I just re-measured yesterday and I'm losing inches! Its fabulous!!! I don't have the specific numbers in front of me right now, but it made me very happy.

If you haven't done so yet, take some measurements! Its scary seeing the original numbers, but so worth it to see your progress!

The Pimp my (P)ride challenge is specifically to add stre... Thu, 29 Sep 2011 13:39:07 EST A new awareness Yesterday was not one of my better days. It started off well - good breakfast and lunch, but deteriorated into chips and dips and beer (also known as... watching UFC at our friends' place).

Well, I'm looking at this from the positive side: it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and has been in the past. I was much more aware of what I was doing... most of the time... but I think I also learned something too. It amazing, when there's food in front of me (especially YUMMY food like ... Sun, 25 Sep 2011 13:07:10 EST Yay me!!! I had a very busy day yesterday: a full day of work, and then two TIFF film screenings in the evening. The first was at 6, the second at 9.

I tried to make a healthy, and portable, dinner to bring with me, but it fell apart when I was making it! So i ended up having that for lunch and bought a sandwich. The sandwich wasn't huge, and I got roasted vegetables, so I thought that would be on the healthier side. I ate half at about 5:15, before the first film, then the second half at a... Wed, 14 Sep 2011 11:44:08 EST Afternoon Break I work in my own office - its very small, but it has walls and a door (aka privacy!).

So I decided a week ago that I would take a break mid-afternoon, and do my strength training exercises. And I'm so glad I thought of it! Its a way to get moving and avoid the afternoon slump, it gets me out of my chair for 10 minutes, and I feel great afterwards. Plus I love being able to check off those boxes on my fitness tracker! Mon, 12 Sep 2011 16:05:09 EST Pimp My (P)ride - Day 1 Here it is, the starting line information, for all the world to see... 40

1.
