STUDYHAWK's SparkPeople Blog STUDYHAWK's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Back from India! How was it? Interesting. I have to say that it is surely different from watching the Hindi movies. I have realized, like all other movies, that India is glamorized by the Hindi movies. Real life is not like that at all, of course.

I just wasn't prepared for how different real life is. I guess when someone comes here from other countries, they are not totally prepared by the reality of the US either.

Will I go back again? Unfortunately no. My asthma cannot hand... Tue, 25 Oct 2011 16:51:52 EST The wonders of water!! Hi sisters,

I haven't been able to blog for a while because of a super busy schedule. I went to serve in Scranton PA, had a wonderful time. Came back super pumped for the DC invitation campaign. It's amazing to the Hindustani log (people) - (pronounced loag, sort of like load) that this is a free event for three days completely in Hindi. Sirf Parmeshvar Yahovah. (only Jehovah God)

Have continued to lose weight. Healthy choices is the absolute reason. Plus, the w... Thu, 4 Aug 2011 08:19:24 EST Lifestyle changes are tough In order for a change to be most beneficial it has to be on the level of a lifestyle change. It seems that anything can throw the process into a tailspin. I am helping my daughters through some life changes of their own. My lifestyle change in my eating habits was definitely affected. It is our tradition to get together at my house and cook all of the family favorites when one of us is going through a crisis.

Well, I cooked so much food on Sunday it was utterly ridiculous. B... Mon, 18 Jul 2011 14:57:06 EST Dear Sparkers in India... I hope that your families and friends are well and were not harmed by the bomb blasts that took place there. We are in the dark days of this tired system of things. We all look forward to brighter days when events like this will not happen to friends or loved ones.

My heart goes out to all of you.

Crystal

bahut pyaar bhen Thu, 14 Jul 2011 18:52:04 EST Plateau conquered! Two pounds down!! Finally!! It took long enough to get past this plateau. Whew!! Hopefully the weight will continue on it's downward spiral as I continue on my eating plan!

Happy sparking this week! Thu, 14 Jul 2011 18:49:32 EST Hey Sparkers! Hi everyone!

I've been quite busy these last few days and haven't had a chance to "spark"! All is well, and week 8 has started off with a small wimper. But hanging in there. I did a plateau breaker on Wednesday for three days. We'll see what next week brings.

Focused on the goal, no matter what. Something will happen at some point!

Sun, 10 Jul 2011 19:47:25 EST Now starting week 7 I can't believe I'm at week 7 and fitting into a size 18!! That's amazing to me. I'm back to my zumba in full force. I think I'm going to cut out sugar this week. We'll see the affects on Friday!!

Hope you all have a good week.

The DC is AWESOME!!!! I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't gone yet. But please go over your Daniel Prophecy book. Particularly the portion about the image. See if you can figure out who is represented by the ten toes!! Spiritual trut... Tue, 5 Jul 2011 10:37:46 EST And the good news is...!! I bought a jacket for my DC this weekend and it was two sizes smaller!! I usually buy a size 22 in jackets, pants, skirts and dresses. But yesterday, I went to Syms and bought a beautiful jacket. My initial thought was to try on a larger size. But I wondered how much I have to go before I could fit an 18 again. I tried the jacket on and it fit like it was made for me!! OK. I'm happy. :-)

I also bought a skirt in a smaller size. A 20. it fits perfectly too. Size 22 is a t... Fri, 1 Jul 2011 22:53:07 EST Have you ever had a doctor you just can't stand?! I am preparing health baselines with my local bloodless hospital center and I've changed my doctors to doctors affiliated with that hospital. That said, I now have to get to know these doctors. I have a cardiologist, not because I have a problem, but because my dad died a few years ago from a massive heart attack and no one knew he had cardiac problems, not even him.

So, I go to this doctor for the first visit. He said something in a rude way ("you know you're obese") But ok, y... Wed, 29 Jun 2011 10:39:37 EST Happy Monday! After such a busy weekend with the grandkids, I'm tired. I'm going back to my Zumba today. I miss the energy it provided.

The start of week 6 began on Friday. I'm discouraged that I haven't lost more. But without Zumba, I should expect this. We'll see what week 7 brings. Maybe there will be a loss at the end of this week. I'll plug on every day till Friday! I want to reach my goal at the end of week 15. I'm almost halfway there and it doesn't look good. But, I'm doing t... Mon, 27 Jun 2011 10:34:06 EST Wow! 20 Points on the Bonus Wheel! Well, at least something good came out of week 5. Unfortunately, I gained weight. The two pounds I lost earlier this week, came back with a vengeance on weigh in day. I really need to exercise. This won't work for me without exercise.

I know what I didn't do. I didn't eat enough calories, not enough water yesterday. Not to mention bloating. Well this is still the start of week 6. I'm going to do something different this week. I'm going to eat only from the sparkpeople ... Fri, 24 Jun 2011 10:24:41 EST Missing Zumba Can't wait till my knee gets better! I'm really missing Zumba. Maybe I'll do a modified version of it until I can do it like I used to.

I'm afraid of not making my goal in August. I'm going to work harder and stay on the lower end of my calories. Oh boy!!

It's time to read a motivational story.

Have a successful day. Wed, 22 Jun 2011 12:03:27 EST Feeling Better, 2 pounds down! OK, so I took some pain killers/anti-inflammatory. Knee is much better. I was talking to one of my friends last night, he recommended weighing every day. I thought that was just crazy. I'll never lose weight if I do that. But he noted how the scale should be used as a motivational tool.

That probably works well for men!! We all know men lose weight faster and better than women! But I decided to weigh in early this week. Incredibly, 2 lbs down. It's probably water weight. ... Tue, 21 Jun 2011 10:30:47 EST Crazy weekend, hurt my knee I had such a busy weekend. But it was absolutely great!! I hurt my knee though. This will hurt my Zumba fun. I have to try other exercises that won't hurt my knee until it heals.

What should I do? Pilates? Only strength train? Please help!!

Thanks sparkers! Mon, 20 Jun 2011 11:42:32 EST OK. Pictures upload - two pounds gained. :-( OK, so I'm on a roll right! I am exercising, trying to eat better and what happens on week 5. A weight gain of two pounds. OK. I've heard it before, "muscle weighs more than fat", "it's probably just water", "you'll lose it", "don't get discouraged".

I do feel sad about it. I know all of the above, but I want the scale to move in the other direction. The only silver lining is that I have cramps too. So that helps the thought process as to why I have this gain. I'll keep exe... Fri, 17 Jun 2011 10:50:22 EST What a "before" picture! I decided to be brave enough to post a before picture. Of course, this was BEFORE I actually took the picture. So, I take the picture, and then, I look at the first impulse was to then delete the picture!

Thoughts circled through my head about using it as motivation, ummmm using it as motivation.....ummmm, using it as motivation....nothing else comes to mind.

I didn't really think I had the courage to post it. But then I realized something..the funny th... Thu, 16 Jun 2011 20:16:28 EST One more small accomplishment I realized that when I read the motivational stories of others, I'm actually motivated!! Wow! Rocket science!! :-)

So one more small accomplishment is to read someone's success story each day. I'm sure I'll be writing my own soon! Wed, 15 Jun 2011 10:36:31 EST Nutrition Tracker I really am getting used to how to use the nutrition tracker. I noticed that even on days when I have a low calorie count, I have a high fat content. I'm going to make a personal goal for week 5. This week I will stay under my fat allotment. I'll see what the results are on weigh in Friday.

After a bad Saturday of eating out all day, I need to make more food at home. I need to find time to do that. OK another personal goal on the way to little accomplishments.

T... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 11:20:10 EST Today starts week 4 I'm starting the week of f on a good note. I lost 2 more pounds. I think it could have been more, but I didn't drink my water quota yesterday. Too busy outside and away from an easily accessible bathroom!! LOL

I didn't Zumba yesterday either!! I missed it! I can't believe I'm beginning to miss not working out. I want to dust off my gym membership and head back to add strength training again. Unbelievable! All of this at week four.

Can't wait to see where I am ... Fri, 10 Jun 2011 11:30:54 EST Looking forward to Friday Friday starts week 4. Not 4A. Why not? Because I've never made it to week 4 before. This is a first. I'm proud of myself. I'm proud because I have done Zumba like I promised myself I would and I stayed on schedule.

I'm proud that I can look in the mirror and like what I see. I don't see that much of an outside change, but I see an inside change. I can see determination, courage, and willingness continuing to build.

I can deal with that until I see a more pron... Wed, 8 Jun 2011 23:22:00 EST I cheated!! I cheated and weighed in today. I lost another 3 pounds!! Zumba is working!! I love it and look forward to doing every morning. I'm finding that I have to really like and look forward to the type of exercise I'm doing. It has to be convenient for me and not cause to much knee problems. But I also have to be consistent. That's the only way I'll see results. If I am hit and miss with my exercise, it shows on the scale.

I'm trying to find the "secret" for my body. That means... Tue, 7 Jun 2011 10:42:58 EST Still on track! I'm so happy to still be sparking. I'm better than I was yesterday, last week, last year. I'll be better still as the days go by. One day at a time until I reach my goal. Thanks Sparkpeople! 252 Mon, 6 Jun 2011 23:21:21 EST I can't believe I tracked my Saturday I know I'm making progress when I log in to spark on Saturday! This day is one of my busiest. I don't have a lot of time, but blogging, logging, spinning the wheel has become a daily priority! Reading motivational stories helps me stay on track. I can do this! (I can't believe I just "said" that!) Keep on sparking! 224 Sat, 4 Jun 2011 21:49:58 EST Four pounds down!! OK, it's the end of week 2A! I have lost 4 pounds! Albeit four pounds I lost last year, but it's still four pounds.

It's painful to have to re-lose weight. But it's also a motivator. I can't put this weight back on. I have to reach my 15 week goal. Four pounds is a lot! It's almost a 5 lb bag of sugar! 104

I am reaching for saying that dreaded phrase "If I could do it, anyone can!"

Sparkers keep on the mark. Every little bit helps. Thank... Fri, 3 Jun 2011 15:49:26 EST OK, let's have ribs!! So sometimes I'm all over the board when it comes to meals. Some days I'm way under my calories, some days I'm way over. OK, that said, this next day brings a new opportunity to make good choices and to stay on track.

I read success stories and I wonder how people have managed to lose part of their body mass in such an effective way!! It's because of being motivated to do so. The inner desire to change oneself has to be there or no eating plan, exercise program or anything else... Wed, 1 Jun 2011 10:49:25 EST Week 2A! This is the second week of my 15 week goal. People are starting to notice already that I'm losing. Although I haven't seen movement on the scale, I am seeing a loss in inches. My clothes are getting looser and I feel more fit, less tired. No aching feet or knees.

That Zumba is amazing! But I have to stick to my calorie consumption. Because of being conscious of overeating I ate below my calorie range for Sunday and Monday. WAY BELOW!! So here is to sticking with my calori... Tue, 31 May 2011 14:34:49 EST Hooray for little accomplishments! I was able to go to the back bench of a minivan yesterday!! That is an accomplishment for me. When riding in the back of a minivan I usually dread going to the back bench. I usually have a tough time getting out and getting in. But, NOT YESTERDAY!! I even volunteered to go to the back bench!! 244 It's the little things like that to help keep me motivated.

Hooray for little accomplishments! Fri, 27 May 2011 11:17:54 EST The new personality.. OK, so I think I'm doing good. I ate breakfast, calories good, ate a very light lunch (soup and baked lays) cause I'm eating out later. I go to Applebees and have the Chicken Bruscetta salad. Good right? NO!! There is batter fried mozzarella in the salad. OK. No problem, just don't eat that. The rest was pretty good. I now have to track what I ate. A whopping 740 calories for the salad!! I should have had a steak!!

Ridiculous. At the very least I am tracking what I eat... Tue, 24 May 2011 23:56:46 EST 5/23/11 - We're still here...ok, good, more time to change The Power of 5 minutes is amazing. Just waiting five more minutes before eating an unhealthy snack can complete undo the craving. AMAZING!! Zumba - DONE 4 today! 244 Mon, 23 May 2011 23:02:38 EST Wow, it's been a year! Incredible. Time goes by so fast. I just discovered Zumba. I like it, do it every day. Now I feel inspired to track my food, read the blogs of other successful sparkers and finally write my own blog. I just read a blog and really liked her method of counting down her days. She has lost 55 pounds in 120 days, I think. I'm inspired by her.

I'm going to write my days too. But, how about I start over at Day 1A! :-)

OK. For Day 1A I drank a ton of water. Staye... Mon, 23 May 2011 00:02:30 EST No real damage done! Today is weigh in. I'm 3 pounds down!! I'm so happy. I'll wait till next week to see if yesterday's breakfast did any real damage. But it was really nice to see a loss. Especially after a PMS week last week. Tue, 6 Apr 2010 10:23:21 EST Can't believe I let her talk me into it!! This morning I'm out with one of my "thin" friends. She's having a bacon, egg, and cheese, sandwich. I usually avoid those, but today, for some reason she's coaxing me into having one. It doesn't take much. I start rationalizing about how I'll make adjustments at lunch, have a shake for dinner, yada yada. I just calculated the calories!! Over 600! That's just for breakfast!! This won't go over again!! I can't let anybody sabotage me! Mon, 5 Apr 2010 10:54:21 EST Weigh in Yesterday Well, no loss no gain. I'm glad I didn't gain. I usually gain the 3 lbs I lost the week before, and then go on to lose the same three pounds again. Vicious fat cycle!!

I've been so busy I haven't had a chance to get to the gym. I FEEL like I've worked out with all the activities I've been doing, but the gym is the best. I'm going to try something other than the treadmill at my next outing. I've got a meeting tonite till 10, a wedding tomorrow night. The gym closes early on S... Thu, 1 Apr 2010 12:03:36 EST Make a different choice I went out to dinner with friends yesterday. Everyone headed over to the breakfast brunch all-you-can-eat. I sat there, not wanting to go over my calories or gorge myself on all I could eat!! In the meantime my friends were coming back to the table with waffles in syrup and butter, BBQ chicken strips, bacon, sausage, etc.

I was turned off by it. I ordered from the menu. I shared my crab appetizer with one of my friends and left more than half of it because it was in a creamy s... Mon, 29 Mar 2010 13:47:27 EST Is this me?! I can't believe I went to the gym and did my entire routine after work, at 8:30 at night! It may be easy for some of you, but for me, my day starts at 5:00 a.m. most mornings and by Friday, I'm crashing and burning! For me to go to the gym after work at that hour, BEFORE dinner, is an accomplishment for me.

So I'm patting myself on the back this evening. I spent two hours at the gym. 30 minutes on the treadmill with a 5% incline (not much, but a lot for me) and at 3.5 mph. WH... Fri, 26 Mar 2010 23:04:14 EST After Yesterday I am staying within my range so far. Looking forward to going to the gym tonight. Redoing what the trainer suggested on Wednesday. I'm so sore today. But looking forward to working out tonight. Gotta be careful around dinner!! I should probably plan what I'm going to have. I know one thing....I'm not having "fast" food!! LOL!!

Have a great on track weekend. Fri, 26 Mar 2010 18:01:28 EST Incredible! Here I am thinking...I'm ok. I've got my calories under control. It's after lunch and I only consumed a little over 700 calories. I'm ok. Then life happened. I had an extremely busy afternoon and evening. All of the sudden it's 10:00 p.m. and I haven't had dinner yet. This is bad, cause the only thing I want is fast food. I'm NOT going home and cooking now. I start to think of the "healthy" fast food places I could go. Came up with Wendy's. Oh yeah, now that's a plan. As I sit... Thu, 25 Mar 2010 22:42:37 EST One day at a time I'm a little sore from yesterday, but still pumped. After the gym I counted up my calories. I had only consumed 484. So of course I've got to get up to 1330. I wanted healthy choices though. So I had 5 oz of Sirloin steak, steamed veggies and 0.5 cup of mashed potatoes. That got me up to 1200+ but still needed more, so I had a cup of yogurt. Goal accomplished!

Now for today...I have to make sure I eat the foods that are healthy and enough of them. It's so weird that I fin... Thu, 25 Mar 2010 13:08:20 EST Snuck on the scale again I'm not supposed to weigh more than once a week, but, I had to today. Just felt like it! I'm down another pound. Amazing. Well, met with the trainer today. She really worked me out!! I'm so tired, but good tired. She says to work this regimen twice a week. Day one down. Now have to find where I can fit in day two this week.

Rome wasn't built in a day, but at least twice a week!! Happy sparking! Wed, 24 Mar 2010 22:58:45 EST Tuesday's Weigh In OK! Down two pounds....probably water weight though. That's ok, anything that comes off is good, water, fat, whatever!! I'll take it! LOL Looks like 1350 calories a day works for me. We'll see how this goes for another week.

Thanks Botzzz for your blog. It's actually helping me stay on track! Tue, 23 Mar 2010 10:36:27 EST Still on track! Well, it's been longer than 3 days and I'm still on track. OK. That's sort of a record! LOL 1,350 calories a day on days that I don't exercise, 1,500 on days I do exercise. I'll see how that works for a while and if I don't see any progress after 2 weeks, then I'll change the caloric intake. Changing my mindset about food is helping a great deal. Food is only fuel, it's not anything more than that! Blogging is also helping. I think it's knowing I have a sort of accountability to my f... Mon, 22 Mar 2010 12:50:50 EST Happy about today I'm happy about what I ate today. All healthy items and stayed under my calories. I walked a lot today. Also made plans to get back to the gym next week. So sunny and warm out, so glad to be out in the fresh air. Really enjoyed today. Sat, 20 Mar 2010 20:36:04 EST The Weather!! Is totally AWESOME! The warmth makes me want to exercise. I'm so busy at work prepping for a trial I haven't gotten any exercise in! Bummer!! Just read BOTZZZ's blog and feel all inspired again! Some people can just do that for you. Thanks Sparkers! Thu, 18 Mar 2010 10:48:47 EST You guys are AWESOME!! Thanks for the comments on my page. It's so nice to see somebody "has your back" as you work on yourself. The support is really encouraging! Thank you! 212 Tue, 16 Mar 2010 13:15:09 EST One day at a time Yesterday I followed the Sparkpeople menu without cheating. I ate everything on the menu that I was supposed to. That was day one. On to Day 2. OK, so my weightloss has to be accomplished one day at a time. I'm realizing that. Now I'm working on a streak here!! 104 Tue, 16 Mar 2010 10:09:37 EST 20 Points on the wheel! Incredible! I thought it was broken!! LOL Trying to blog more. Somebody's right, it is motivating!! Had problems with my asthma but still did toning exercises!! WOOHOO!! I have exercised in the a.m. for 20 and in the pm for 40 min. Walk away the pounds in the a.m. , Dance away the tummy in the pm. That was Sunday

Really fun. I even did WATP on Sunday morning and then Buns of Steel, (That's right, blew the dust off!!) in the evening. Had a healthy dinner and off to bed! <... Mon, 22 Feb 2010 11:25:27 EST Hypothyroidism I finally found out why I couldn't lose more than 4 pounds and keep it off. My thyroid is out of wack. After crazy dry skin, thinning hair, muscle cramps and the like. A lightbulb finally went on and I told my doctor my symptoms. He immediately said Hypothyroid. Expecially since I gained 6 pounds and had been going to the gym twice a week and eating no sugar and no bread!

I started my own research into this problem and found almost all of my symptoms. More importantly I foun... Fri, 5 Feb 2010 13:04:48 EST The other day.... I spoke to a good friend of mine. She told me she lost 10 pounds! I didn't know she was dieting. But, nevertheless, I'm motivated by her. I will work harder at my own triumphs. I know what I need to do, and I get easily discouraged after working really hard and not seeing that much movement on the scale. But!! I do have some movement. That's what counts. I have to put more effort behind this endeavor. All the comments from you sparkers really helps a lot.
