STARTINGINLIMBO's SparkPeople Blog STARTINGINLIMBO's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Do you ever get "hit upside the head" with something and flounder? I feel like I'm floundering due to things others have done. I wanted so bad to eat and eat due to it yesterday- which I did, basically, to a degree, but it was good for me stuff. I've got to try to get the stress under control, even if I can't get the situation under control. You just can't control others. No point in trying. I'm praying. That's a start. Thu, 29 Sep 2016 08:56:03 EST How do you input that kind of exercise?! Yesterday I helped my husband mortar some areas chipmunks have invaded our foundation of our house. So for half an hour I was balancing on a 2by4's side with my legs shaking from the position I was trying to "sit" in, while I was bent forward looking sideways and down to make sure the mortar wasn't being pushed to the outdoors. Then when he got outdoors we worked on that spot as well as others with the rest of the mortar mixed up. I kept scooping mortar and handing it to him, and he'd put the... Sun, 28 Aug 2016 07:10:45 EST Yeah, sometimes you do too much at once As you can see, I got gung ho and overdid- getting three blisters on my foot. You can see here the aftermath of the worst one. I've been using witch hazel on it the last couple of days and it's looking and feeling much improved now though. In the meantime, I mainly did indoor exercising without shoes on! :)
I am finding that getting outdoors and walking is a real blessing to me- it cuts down on s... Fri, 19 Aug 2016 14:49:50 EST My son just left for school again It was such a blessing to have him here for five months or so. An unexpected treat. I just said good bye to him, after a nice long hike with him, and off he heads for a great distance away yet again. He has plenty of friends there, so that is a wonderful thing. He will be starting college again. I hope he will be able to find really good employment soon too. It looks like he has a really nice place to live so that's terrific. I'm glad for him. Just sad for me. Mon, 15 Aug 2016 16:16:53 EST New kitty I have a new kitty as of last November. He is a handful! He does like to cuddle some, but he also likes to reach out and slap anyone who goes by- dog or human. He likes to get into all kinds of mischief! He's a cutie pie though. He is learning to get down when told. His eyes/face remind us of the "Night fury" on How to Train your Dragon. :) He often has the same disposition as well. haha
Wed, 13 Jan 2016 07:16:40 EST My son left for home, it was good to have him for the holidays I don't know how many more years we'll be blessed to have our son come home for the holidays for a few weeks each year, but it's been great as he's been able to. It's always so hard to say good bye. We did that at the airport this afternoon. So I'm kind of blah tonight, but exercised afterward and am eating properly. Yay :) Sun, 4 Jan 2015 18:14:32 EST It's a new year Happy new year to each one of you! Let's make it the best we can make it! Thu, 1 Jan 2015 09:56:17 EST Bye bye kitty My kitty started non-stop crying this evening, panting, and couldn't use her back legs. The vet was closed, but took her anyway, and the lower half of her body was cold- there was no pulse down there. The doctor said she "threw a clot" and it's rare to recover from that so she recommended we euthanize her. I filled out the form and the doctor had to give her two shots in the kidneys. I was there, talking to her and petting her. I'm glad she didn't have to be in such excruciating pain for too ... Sat, 30 Aug 2014 22:20:32 EST Sick kitty My kitty has been sick all week. Eating less and less, not doing much, and then throwing up twice Thursday. I took her to the vet that evening and they said she'd lost quite a bit of weight. They did various tests to rule different things out. Said she has a bit of a fever so since she doesn't have hyperthyroid disease, it's either an infection maybe from a blockage- possibly of her gall bladder, or cancer. They said she has arrhythmia too, but found out that her potassium was very low and he... Sat, 16 Aug 2014 15:03:08 EST First work day all summer If you don't count the half hour it took to meet the student last week, it was my first work day for the summer. Looks like I'll only work one more day this summer, unless someone else needs a sub by the 15th of August. It was nice to know I still know what to do, lol. Tue, 29 Jul 2014 19:47:09 EST Adrenalin makes it hard to sleep :) It is hard to go to sleep after your adrenalin is up! I just did my first Jamberry online party and it was fun. It was just a bit hard to keep it within the allotted hour I gave myself, lol! Plus, I had people earning points and I had to add those up and answer questions at the same time, lol. It was good though. The party doesn't close until next Sunday night so I'm looking forward to a nice party between now AND then!
Anyway, I'd better try to unwind!
How are you guys doing? What ... Mon, 28 Jul 2014 00:00:27 EST a movie and adjustments After church my friend Amy and I watched The Fiddler on the Roof -the extended version. I can see why they didn't keep all that footage, lol, but Amy had really wanted to see the movie again and no one else would watch it with her so I'm glad we got that three hours in. :)
I have been having a nasty back lately. I thought I was doing better and so took both dogs for a walk. Mind you, I tie their leashes around my hips, figuring my hips can take any pulling they do, better than any other ... Sun, 13 Jul 2014 15:50:28 EST A beautiful long hike at a state park today
There are more pictures, and so many more are of even more beautiful areas at this state park, but this gives you a bit of an idea of what it was like. We actually got to walk under a waterfall at one point. At more than one point there was a smaller waterfall going over just past us, as ... Fri, 4 Jul 2014 19:51:04 EST I went mountain climbing today (pics) I KNOW I burned a whole lot more calories than the tracker will allow me to input. Boy do I know it, but anyway, I'm not going to quibble over it any more than saying that. :)
My husband, our daughter, and her husband, and I went and climbed up an almost constantly steep mountain, that three of us had done before. My son-in-law had never been on this one, and he had wanted to as part of his birthday gift from us. It was perfect weather for the day, though cloudy at the top. It took about... Sat, 21 Jun 2014 20:17:10 EST Today was a kayaking and grocery combo Today I went kayaking and I did two weeks of grocery shopping (it's what we do). Whew to both! It was my first time kayaking this year, and at first I didn't know if I would be able to get far, my arms were kinda saying, "what are you doing to me?!" Keeping in mind, of course, that I'm only four days in to exercising more than just walking dogs and at work. heh
After we kayaked, I used hand cleaner on my hands. Ever since then I've been sneezing like crazy! Who'd have thought that would ... Fri, 20 Jun 2014 21:30:48 EST Feeling improvement in four days I got dishes, laundry and some cupboard (2) organizing done today.
My husband did eat one section of the mints I spoke of the other day, and the rest of them did go home with my thin friend last night, lol.
It was Monday that I started eating right again and getting regular exercise, and I must say that I feel so positive. It's like my brain doesn't want to let me feel easily down. That's a great change for the better!
I also am determined to not show a tracker until Monday, s... Thu, 19 Jun 2014 20:06:43 EST Another good day! It's been a pretty good day. It feels weird to be on vacation from working with students. Hopefully it'll only be a couple more weeks. In the meantime, I am determined that I will enjoy it this time around, and will get things done too. Today I got a good amount of exercise- had fun dancing to some songs on Spotify as part of that. :) I worked on cleaning the fridge, though it could use some more attention than I gave it (I think I need to look at expiration dates...). Got some veggies and fr... Wed, 18 Jun 2014 22:19:29 EST I fled temptation I got plenty of exercise and ate right today. Though I admit I was so tempted this afternoon to have some peppermint patties that I'd bought, and forgot I bought, I even had them in my hand- chocolate melting onto it as I went to get some chromium picolonate (It helps your blood sugar not to be bothered as much if you didn't have it with sugar). I realized that I was frustrated and it was only a tv show making me frustrated. I didn't NEED that junk to eat. I turned around from the cabinet and... Tue, 17 Jun 2014 21:26:59 EST It was a full day My daughter came over and we planted a garden this morning. It took us two hours. I know it's kind of late, but we had to wait until my husband could get a tiller borrowed and used and then find a time when the weather would cooperate and she could come over.
I tried three new recipes today. They were good. One was for a smoothie, another for a frozen fruit bar, and another was a pudding made with chia seeds. Those things thicken up nicely.
I finished a book my son had recommended,... Mon, 16 Jun 2014 22:30:15 EST I sure am enjoying the orioles, etcetera :) This is the first year I've ever been successful feeding orioles, and boy are they enjoying their feeder just outside my kitchen window. I just love their vibrant colors and all of their antics and songs. :)
I enjoy seeing the rabbit that comes to eat under the feeder, and the turkey that does too; as well as seeing all the other birds that come, hummingbirds included, but the orioles are my absolute favorite. I don't know how long they stay in an area, but am enjoying them daily as they... Sun, 15 Jun 2014 16:52:51 EST A REALLY good thought from 'Instead of Using "I'm human" as an excuse to walk in the flesh, try using, "I'm saved" as a reason to walk in the Spirit.' Fri, 13 Jun 2014 09:53:26 EST Be strong! I went out for lunch with a friend yesterday. She and I had a good visit. She brought to my attention something that I needed to realize (not that she put that in those words), she said that she noticed that I am either all in or all out. That is so true. So, for example, when I first joined spark people, I was all in, and I lost that weight- got to that goal that the doctor wanted me to get to. Then I got discouraged, and I was all out- just "comforting" myself with food. I've been in that u... Fri, 13 Jun 2014 09:46:49 EST I haven't been happy lately I was emotionally hurt by someone, and haven't had an easy time with it. It's been a couple weeks or more feeling like this. Friday I had a student majorly disrespect me. I was very respectful to her, but had let her know that she was not following the rules the teachers had set out for her, and yet she continued in various ways to do what she wanted, ignoring my reminders. I got out my phone when it was break time. I planned to call one of the teachers, and she asked if I was mad at her. I s... Sun, 8 Jun 2014 17:52:55 EST We hiked to see a waterfall today It went pretty well getting there and back. Nice to sit and watch it and the gurgling brook below. Peaceful sounds. :) Mon, 26 May 2014 18:55:45 EST Got to exercise this morning It'd been a couple weeks since I'd exercised, due to my back being nasty. Been having other stuff going wrong too, and I got into a kind of mantra of "what difference does it make" to just about everything. I got to the chiropractor the other day. Yesterday my back didn't feel good again, but I think something went back into place overnight, because I felt I could do walk away the pounds workout at least- with no pain, yay. So got to do that this morning. Two miles. So that's a bit uplifting.... Fri, 23 May 2014 12:22:57 EST Ticks Yesterday, after my pushing through brush (probably losing the tracker that way) and all, I found a tick on my arm- but it wasn't attached. Today, I felt something on my neck- my husband thought it looked like a scab to him- I asked him to please use the tweezers to remove it. When he did- it was obvious to both of us that it was a tick. Great...that one HAD been attached. UGH
I'm praying that nothing bad happens from it having been... Sun, 11 May 2014 23:20:32 EST My Spark Activity Tracker is gone I went for a very long hike today, and no longer have my activity tracker. I noticed it was missing when I went to shower, after finding a tick on my arm (not sticking to it, thankfully, though). I temporarily ditched the shower, so I could try to retrace my steps, but the hike was on my own land, and I went through a lot of brush and on lots of trails and it's muddy, and....I just can't find it. My husband tried too, but it just doesn't want to be found. It's so weird to see the tracker sync... Sat, 10 May 2014 18:06:57 EST A hiking we did go (yep, pics too) Well, my spark tracker says I walked over six miles today. It was actually a lot of hiking. We did a lot of steep uphill and downhill! I KNOW I burned a lot more calories than the tracker is saying I did. I wish I'd used my hiking boots. I don't know where my brain was at. The sneakers worked, but hiking boots would have been so much better- even though they would have let some mud in (thanks to the dogs). I need a new pair of boots...heh.
I did use my new foot bath when I got home. :) <... Sun, 20 Apr 2014 22:07:02 EST We celebrated Easter and 4 birthdays Saturday was a full day with family. We had one birthday at the end of March, one a week later and two (twins) in April, and to celebrate all at once was the idea- plus the best way the family could all get together for Easter was to do it the day before Easter. So it was a full house and a good day.
I am allowed to have 3 "cheat meals" a week, if I want to, on my eating plan, so I wasn't too worried about having a little bit of cake, so I tried all three kinds (yeah, can you believe it?... Sun, 20 Apr 2014 00:19:00 EST Five Pounds Down? Oh yeah! Yay, I'm so happy to have gotten rid of five pounds this first week back on track with food and exercise! I can see and feel the difference.
Two inches off my waist. An inch off my hips. Half an inch off my thigh.
Sweet!
I've been sticking to my eating plan and doing a variety of exercises daily (trying to do a different dvd each day -been using some to try from Netflix too).
Above all that, I just love the way I FEEL. I have so much more energy and alertness that I didn't... Sat, 19 Apr 2014 10:23:26 EST Full day planned not as full as expected Well, my sister didn't get there 'til this evening, last I heard from her (that was when she was expected to arrive), and my friend, that was to come over this evening, never called so I hope she's okay. I did go out with a friend for a belated birthday meal today and enjoyed that. I had Chicken Fresco and a side of broccoli and a side of spaghetti squash, with lemon water to drink. I did well on my food choices. My friend and I had a really good visit.
I walked the dogs and also did Wal... Wed, 16 Apr 2014 21:10:50 EST Daffodils to droopadils? Yeah, that's a weird title...Anyway...Those beautiful daffodils that were first open yesterday? Here they are today:

Yeah, around 80 yesterday and snow sticking to the ground today.

Started with lots of rain and turned to snow. We were out for breakfast, a car inspection and getting some fruit and veggies when it was raining. I was out g... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 21:17:13 EST Daffodils and Evergreens Yesterday, when I walked the dogs, I saw a kingfisher- and boy did he protest us being at "his" pond! That evening my husband and I went for a two mile walk along the road, and when we came back we had one daffodil open for the first time this year. Today we had several. :) So cheerful.
You can see our basset hound's tail and lead in the picture too...haha.
Hubby and I planted some blue spruce today, from the Arbor ... Mon, 14 Apr 2014 20:30:01 EST Spark Tracker survives Can you believe my Spark Tracker went through the wash, on regular cycle, with a full load of laundry, and through the dryer, and is doing fine? Crazy Thu, 10 Apr 2014 20:53:16 EST Spark Tracker I wear it regularly, and it's kind of neat to see how many steps I've taken, but it is awfully annoying that you can't write down what exercise you did when you do a work out. It will record that amount of time for you, saying how many calories you burned, when it doesn't even know what you did. So if you don't mind having it do that (for instance, it may say I burned 94 calories when I did high intensity aerobics for 32 minutes), then no big deal. I'm trying not to let it matter to me. But I... Thu, 13 Mar 2014 17:39:39 EST Flat on my back yesterday So my husband and I went to walk the dogs yesterday, and we are walking through the six inches of new snow when I suddenly encounter pure ice under that snow. Both feet went out from under me and down I went on my back. I remember hitting at the part that is just under your neck, second, where your spine kinda "sticks out" in that area, and then my head, but my head is fine. I've been sore in spots. Definitely out of alignment in spots. I have had things moving here and there and I think I'm ... Fri, 10 Jan 2014 14:00:04 EST My experience with the Spark Activity Tracker so far I started wearing the Spark Activity Tracker night before last. That night and the next day I'm, it just seems to track how many steps I take- it's just a pedometer after all that? But today I was able to do some low impact aerobics (My back was bad before that, and I went to the chiropractor yesterday), and when I went to input my exercise on the website, the spark activity tracker said that it had tracked a certain amount of minutes of some kind of activity, and was asking if ... Tue, 7 Jan 2014 12:15:58 EST Exercised this morning We walked the dogs before sunrise, and I did some more Christmas prep and then did some walk away the pounds with stretch bands before my shower.
I didn't FEEL like exercising, but felt good about having done so afterward.
My son isn't home for Christmas -first time ever- and his package from us didn't get there before Christmas- sure hope it will tomorrow (I have a friend who hasn't gotten TWO packages and the post office can't find them)... but I hope he has a good day somehow. He... Wed, 25 Dec 2013 09:58:19 EST The changes since losing half the goal weight Since losing half my weight, I'm of course wearing smaller clothes, and feeling better about how I look in clothes. Just the other day my husband looked at me while I was finishing getting ready for work (curling hair), and said, "Wow, you really HAVE gotten thinner!" THAT felt good. :) It does feel pretty good to look at my whole profile in a mirror now. Exercise has helped with that too- not just the food plan.
When I take a shower I don't have those pads of fat any longer under my arm... Sun, 15 Dec 2013 07:37:45 EST Past my halfway mark goal for weight loss! This last week, adding in almond milk really helped with the protein shakes I take to work with me. They tasted so much better. Getting my at least two cups of veggies per meal (like I'm supposed to) did too, though I admit I didn't do that always for breakfast.
But Classic carb-cycling week one after a slingshot week- went well- 2.6 lbs down! Just under my halfway point for weight loss. Woohoo! Sat, 14 Dec 2013 07:08:41 EST Nope, not getting another kitty I could tell the gal was in love with the kitty and vice versa so I suggested she ask her landlord if she might let her keep the kitty. The landlord said yes.
The kitty looks to be well enamored of their place already and our weather is atrocious for travel so it all works out for the best. Fri, 13 Dec 2013 16:49:26 EST Might be getting another pet There is a stray kitty that had a friend (who is a distance away) take pity on it -even got a checkup and shots today. The friend can't keep the kitty due to renting and it being against the lease, so put out a plea for the kitty to get a good home. Hubby and I would like it, so if the storms subside long enough, hopefully, Saturday we will meet about half way there and we will have the four month old kitty. I hope she and our older cat and our two dogs get along well right from the start. :) Wed, 11 Dec 2013 20:31:39 EST Veggie shake success Today is low carb day so I decided to try making veggie shakes again. This time it tasted pretty good, with that addition of non-dairy milk, rather than using water. It cut down on the sweetness of the protein powder I'm able to use. Though I did find another flavor of theirs that I can use, and ordered it today, yay.
Today's first shake was made with my protein powder, two cups of spinach (which I'm testing again to see if I break out from), coconut milk, and a half of an avocado for t... Mon, 9 Dec 2013 15:41:50 EST Dentist and Veggies Yesterday I went to the dentist. I broke a tooth mid-September and hubby has been wanting to know how much to put in for FSA so I got my appointment over with and know how much we'll need for my teeth. They WANT to build up two teeth, and crown one. However, they gave me an alternative -to "fill" both. I can have two surface filling for one and three surface filling for the other (the broken one)- and that was WAY cheaper so I'm going with that. It's not 'til February though. The second tooth... Sat, 7 Dec 2013 12:02:23 EST Hunter on our land again Hubby helped walk the dogs today and he was determined we do go out back. Someone did shoot while we were out there, but guess it wasn't real close by.
It was looking like no one had been on any of our trails since the snowfall between Wednesday and Thursday, until we got to one part of a trail and then there it was. They stayed on that trail and went to the pond and went around and onto another trail and we didn't keep following it then and headed home. I told my husband he should go pu... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 16:53:42 EST Two point Six pounds down this week! That's exciting- to get on the scale and see 2.6 pounds down! I knew my jeans were feeling loose on me yesterday- I've definitely been releasing fat, woohoo!
I had switched from turbo cycle to classic cycle last week and this week (turbo is supposed to be faster weight loss, I'm sure you can tell by its name), and my body definitely seems to release fat better following that (Classic). It's just alternating a low carb day with a high carb day (plus you get a reward day of up to 1000 extr... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 08:40:05 EST Today This morning I went right out to shovel when I saw we did not get the one inch of snow we were told we were going to get, but more like 7-8 inches.
It took me 74 minutes to shovel. My lower back got a good workout. :)
After a bit I took the dogs individually for a trudge...errrr hike, and the total walk time was 45 minutes. We did not go out back- thanks to hunters I'm afraid to now...
Everything's really pretty outside. I even saw one branch draped with snow in one spot that l... Fri, 29 Nov 2013 14:25:28 EST My Thanksgiving day It went great getting the food ready for Thanksgiving dinner today. I only brought crockpot sweet potatoes and apples (spark recipe), whole cranberry sauce (spark recipe-no sugar in it), a veggie tray with dips, broccoli slaw (my sister loves it), green bean casserole (my mom's request) and tea.
We walked the dogs after letting the cranberry sauce cool. The snow was crunchy so the sound of it must have really scared some turkeys that weren't too far from us- we saw them fly away. It's am... Thu, 28 Nov 2013 17:43:14 EST Pity party blog Ever get so frustrated that all you want to do is complain? I'm pretty much there today.
It started with a couple cousins commenting on facebook that it's so sad that a cousin of theirs has very little family that will have anything to do with him.
I know this family that they're talking about -wonderful people. Wonderful! What they know is only what he has told them. They don't know the others' side(s) of the story. What he has done/said to the family -it's mighty awful. I've seen... Wed, 27 Nov 2013 15:41:28 EST A good day I'm feeling so much better today. It's great to not have head pain anymore. The chiropractor took care of that, and boy did I hear it when my foot was put back into alignment,by him Friday, from when I twisted it two and a half weeks ago.
My lower back was still mighty sore (yes, from being put back in alignment) even this morning, but I decided to try low impact aerobics (4 miles with Leslie Sansone) and I'm glad I did. I'm feeling much more normal now.
Still have a goose egg from ... Sun, 24 Nov 2013 15:26:46 EST
