I went shopping for groceries and plants/seeds for gardening (going to try it), put everything away, took the dogs for a walk and then made my own vegetable stock, cooked a bunch of beans, made homemade chili and another dish that is considered a salad but has rice and legumes. Red pepper, sun dried tomatoes, green onion and so on. It smells really good! I'm looking forward to trying that tomorrow.
After I got everything in various containers, and got them in the fr... Sat, 25 May 2013 21:48:19 EST All in a day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5367096 I got my produce at a local farmer's market this evening. I took my daughter with me -we think we might do this weekly, for our homes. That was fun, but the boxful of stuff I had was heavy! It was so good to find dry beans, peas and nuts there at a great price too. I have everything put away just right, including the small peach and "pickle" cucumber- though those went into my hungry tummy, not the fridge or baskets! :)
The dogs were funny on their walk. I think they must have thought it... Fri, 24 May 2013 21:26:06 EST pictures of rainbow/pond/funny dog and updates http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5364901 This is what it looks like outside presently (note the rainbow!):
So this morning I did my couch to 5k prep on my treadmill. Note that my dog also likes to use the treadmill: :)
Oh yes, and for those wanting to know what our pond looks like, as opposed to the dry spot it was last summer, here is a pan of it: <img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeople.co... Wed, 22 May 2013 18:45:06 EST Changes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5363903 I'm continuing to try new recipes.. Tonight we had an indian dish. My husband really liked it, yay. I should get some gloves before I cut jalapeno again though. :)
I'm learning to appreciate legumes, and how much nutrition is in them is pretty cool. I feel so much healthier and it's only been about a week and a half since being on the Eat to Live six week plan.
Sure, sometimes it seems boring, but the weight I'm losing, and the health I'm gaining, I just know that I'll find more yum... Tue, 21 May 2013 21:02:38 EST A yummy grain-less wrap for lunch today :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5359706 Lunch was good. The main part of my meal was almond butter currant wraps. I mixed up 2 Tbsp of almond butter with 2 Tbsp of dried currants and put dabs of them in the middle of some washed, but dried, romaine (6) leaves- folding them on all four sides. Nice and crunchy and creamy and sweet. :) The author of Eat To Live suggests banana slices in it, but I tried that already (and it was a tad messy and hard to stay together, though I didn't dry the lettuce that time and that had to do with some... Fri, 17 May 2013 21:30:03 EST Celery root was our new veg to try today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5357948 I didn't see celery root Sunday or Monday, at the grocery store, but today I asked about it and they brought it out to me. Yay. I really wanted to try the recipe I needed it for. Once again my husband very much liked the vegetarian dish I made for supper tonight. We had a unique split pea soup for supper- very tasty. It had celery root in it -which we'd never tried before. Parsnips and carrots and onion and garlic, as well as parsley in there too.
He also had salad and fruit. He's still... Wed, 15 May 2013 22:23:00 EST I've come back out of hiding http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5356665 I had some excuses for going missing- some good but mostly bad. I've gained some weight back, BUT I'm back in full swing with exercise, and as of yesterday I've been on track with my eating.
I read a book called Eat to Live, and it makes so very much sense. If I eat that way then I can see the weight coming off and the health getting good. My husband has been mainly reading what I underlined in the book, and it's making sense to him too, but he's decided to do the Abs diet. However, I'm... Tue, 14 May 2013 19:54:56 EST Turned 50 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5305863 I had a pretty leisurely birthday. It was so nice and sunny today. Yay!
Sally Beauty Supply gave me a ten dollar off coupon for my birthday, so I used it on anti-wrinkle (about time at this age to do that I suppose!) stuff (-stuff I haven't tried before, that was also on sale).
I walked the dogs, and they nearly tripped me pretty badly (have their leads around my hips), but when I jumped backward one leg at a time, I landed clear with one leg and ON the leash with the other foot, w... Sat, 30 Mar 2013 23:59:09 EST exhausted http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5292290 My left hands' fingers are not wanting to let me type, but I'm going to anyway- I just got done with an hour of shoveling some of the heaviest snow I've ever shoveled. The stuff at the base of the driveway had sand mixed in, making it heavier, and there was a lot of that in front of the mailbox area as well, by the foot of the road. Even after all that heaviest stuff, I had to tackle the long driveway- I say had to, but really I didn't -hubby had already said he'd snowblow the driveway. I jus... Tue, 19 Mar 2013 11:12:25 EST Bad knees getting stronger?! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5288744 With all the walking I've been doing with the dogs this winter, with the various terrain changes- ice, mud, deep snow, various textures of snow, rocks, branches, etcetera, I've felt my knees getting stronger. Now I have not known what was wrong with them- only that I injured them twenty or so years ago. My doctor did get them x-rayed maybe six years ago, but I never was told what he thought was wrong with them, because his concern for other health issues took precedence when I interrupted (st... Sun, 10 Feb 2013 09:21:15 EST 20/20 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5244068 I'm sure at least one of you figured out this would be about my exercise for the day, lol.
20 Minutes spent shoveling snow off a roof (good back exercise)
and
20 minutes spent snow shoeing (great workout for the sides of the hips!)/walking the dogs with hubby.

Sat, 9 Feb 2013 14:30:36 EST 1206 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5243392 That's how many calories burned today. Feels like it too. Hungry!
Between walking the dogs, exercising to dvds and shoveling snow twice, it really added up today!
Fri, 8 Feb 2013 22:46:42 EST Double 41 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5240518 I did 41 minutes of zumba this morning before work, and after I got home, and found out hubby had hurt his back, I took the dogs out on my own for back to back walks, and turned out it was exactly 41 minutes total for that too!
I hurt my thumb (when I went for the after-walk-treats for the dogs-somehow smacked it into the closet door and in a weird position) and worried that it was sprained, but I think it's doing pretty well. Might ice it. We'll see.
These walks through the snow, ... Wed, 6 Feb 2013 16:57:27 EST Snow Shoeing and Shoveling http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5236999 Got up and did 35 minutes of shoveling and then hubby used the snow blower for the rest of the 21 inch depth of snow we were only expecting a few inches of.
I helped him shovel off a roof and then we went for a walk with the dogs, while we wore snow shoes. Our "snow dog" loved being first, wading through the snow. Our basset hound kept stepping on my snow shoes. haha
I feel like I've had a really good workout (over a thousand calories burned today already)! Mon, 4 Feb 2013 11:04:35 EST My nice starts to the day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5235652 We were out walking the dogs before/during/after sunrise this morning. On the way back to the house, the snow cover was glittering with "diamonds".

I tried a new-to-me exercise DVD today. It's Kathy Smith's Total Body Lift. I purchased it from Ebay. It works arms, legs, buns and tummy. You can do it by sections or the whole thing- which I did, and is 69 minutes. A very good workout. She makes sure you're in the right form to do the exercises- just the right amount of reminders, a... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 11:56:42 EST Just over a quarter of the way to goal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5234362 Yay, twelve pounds down this year!! So glad to be under the 180s now!
I did a lot of shoveling yesterday, but today, only got to do the part where the sand was mixed in with snow and the foot of the driveway and in front of the mailbox, 'cause hubby got out the snow blower- knowing my folks were going to arrive soon. Then after they left, we took the dogs for a walk. Just that exercise of shoveling a little and walking the dogs brought me just over what I needed for the week for exercise... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 10:49:04 EST So I was carrying two 5 lbers when it hit me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5230465 Last night my daughter sent me home with two five pound weights she had borrowed from me. I had a box to carry too, that had delicate things in it. So carrying a bag of ten pounds in weights, and a fairly light box. It struck me, as I went to do this- TEN pounds is heavy! I HAD ten pounds on me more than I do now, less than a month ago. WOE! Every ten pounds we lose is THAT heavy? Come on now, go get ten pounds in your hands and FEEL it for yourself. RIGHT?!!! I am thrilled that I got rid of ... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 15:45:57 EST Eating out, celebrating ten down and on track :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227720 Yesterday's visit with my friend went well. We went out to eat. I chose a spinach salad that had artichoke in it -special flavor and I don't ever get that veggie otherwise, so it was extra good. Quite filling. I enjoyed it. I had the dressing on the side, and used hardly any of it. Gave the bread that came with the salad to my friend. Well, offered it if she wanted it, and she did. We tried an herbal tea that we'd never tried before. It was caffeine free (we both need that) and it was called ... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 20:16:25 EST A sunny day in every way :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5225488 Just got done with Total Body Burn (hip hop abs), that uses weights too.
Got some gifts wrapped for a get together with a friend (I am to celebrate her birthday and Christmas late with her- as per her request, since her December is too chaotic), and have chicken breasts in pieces in the crock pot for easy protein for the week. Did walk the dog through snow for half an hour early this morning.

My allergy rash seems to be calming down. I've decided to try adding coconut milk to... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 11:12:46 EST Ten down!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5224243 Woohoo! Down ten pounds! Just about a quarter of the way to my first goal for the year!
Sure am enjoying some sunshine coming through the windows today, and shining on me while we were out with the dogs for just over half an hour today. I saw an obvious spot where a deer had slept in the snow while the dogs were following deer tracks and other animal scents. :) Saw a cardinal out back -so vivid red against all the snowy "ornaments" in the trees and bushes!
Enjoy your day, everyone! Sat, 26 Jan 2013 11:04:52 EST Another benefit from eating so healthy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5223094 Just helped walk the dogs for 25 minutes, through snow again. Good side of hips and total leg workout.
Pondering my having to eat basically only veggies, fruits and some meat right now (while I try to figure out what's causing me to break out in an itchy rash)- other than feeling more alert, I'm noticing my tummy is flatter- I don't get the bloat I used to. That's definitely another plus.
What benefits have you found from eating more healthy? Fri, 25 Jan 2013 13:09:35 EST The good, the bad, the good :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5222161 Today I did a four mile walk with Leslie Sansone first thing. After lunch I helped walk our dogs through the snow for 25 minutes. My fitness tracker says I had better not do as much exercise the next two days (I hate changing it because then it says I haven't eaten enough all week). Actually, one of my tendons seems to be agreeing for some reason. Maybe it's just because of these boots I've been wearing for too long. I had to go to a meeting and then shop for more produce, and got home to mak... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 20:14:53 EST Snowy exercise :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5220301 I just came in from walking through the snow with my hubby and our dogs, right after I shoveled the driveway. It's barely above zero out there, but sweat is dripping down my back. I put myself down for hiking up hills because it IS a hilly walk, but man, I tell ya, walking through fairly deep snow- I'm SURE I've burned more calories than the tracker says. I'm hungry now, so I shall go get something to eat. :)
Did you use the snow for exercise at all this week? Wed, 23 Jan 2013 14:41:59 EST Plenty of exercise, good results http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5219170 It's been a pretty good day all in all. I stayed within nutrition tracker ranges and for exercise I walked a dog, did some low impact aerobics and shoveled snow.
I found out that I've lost a half inch off my thighs these last couple of weeks or so. Woohoo for that. :)
Feels so good to be getting stronger too. Tue, 22 Jan 2013 20:38:20 EST Yesterday and Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5216762 Yesterday I turned down apple pie and banana bread at my daughter and son-in-law's. I knew how many calories were left for the day and that they wouldn't fit into them. Also I'm trying to determine if I'm allergic to wheat, so that helped in the whole thing.
I did picture for a moment, how I would feel after eating such, and I knew I'd feel yuck, so was doubly glad I didn't have any.
Yesterday I did hip hop abs. Today I do believe I'll be walking a dog and shoveling snow. Speaking... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 09:43:01 EST Sleep well http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5214774 Got my exercising in and stayed within nutrition tracker ranges.
Hubby and I have been watching movies today. He's sick and I might be starting to be- sometimes I don't know if it's allergies or sickness.
So tired. Good night all. Sat, 19 Jan 2013 21:01:45 EST A much better day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5213490 Today was so much better at work. I'm so glad.
I did snow shoveling here at home for today's exercise.
Stayed within all my ranges on the nutrition tracker too. :D

Fri, 18 Jan 2013 19:51:23 EST Blah http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5212171 It was a frustrating day at work and then after work it continued. Now I have tried for about an hour and a half to sleep and stuff from work just keeps going through my head. Going to have to figure out how to get to sleep.
Anyhoo, I did "medicate" myself with goodies today, however, somehow ('cause I didn't add up as I went -I added up my day's intake after I ate it all) I stayed within ranges- well, fiber was only 17, but all else was in range.
I did exercise (two different times... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 21:40:44 EST Within ranges http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5210527 At the low end of my calorie, etcetera, intake for the day. Doing well. Lots of veggies I had. :)
Did the exercise amount I'd planned for a work day.
All in all, a good day, I'd say. Wed, 16 Jan 2013 19:31:22 EST Rough night but good start to the day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5208332 Helping hubby build a step stool for our kitty just did me in- my allergies were so bad last night I couldn't swallow at one point while lying down trying to stop blowing my nose long enough to try to go to sleep, (no air going through the nasal passages) so got right up and used some saline solution in my nose. It really helped. I had already taken allergy medicine a couple hours before. I tried sleeping in a chair and then a mouse got caught in a trap and he dragged the trap around with him... Tue, 15 Jan 2013 12:20:01 EST It's nice not to have super sore feet when I go down the stairs now http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5206579 I think it's not only losing a little weight, but the eating of more veggies. I've noticed before that the more "sugar" I had before bed, the more sore my feet, and even my hands would be when I got up in the morning. My hands aren't sore any longer, and my feet are pretty much not sore any longer either. It was hard going down the stairs before- it didn't feel good doing that first thing in the morning -I was always worried I was injuring my feet.
I've a feeling my body is becoming less... Mon, 14 Jan 2013 11:43:42 EST No longer Obese, yeah! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5204675 Today I officially went from Obese to overweight. I'm looking forward to not being either O any longer, but am SO glad to not be considered Obese anymore! Great feeling.
I'm super sore from all the exercise I'm suddenly doing (lower back), and have a cold pack on it, but I'm not giving up! :) Sun, 13 Jan 2013 08:53:24 EST Who knew fixing a mailbox could use so many muscles! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5203838 Yeah, so I did a three mile walk workout with stretch bands for the upper body and then went out to help my hubby get our homemade mailbox back in place (a snowplow had taken part of it apart). He has injured his right shoulder so, I had to do a good bit of what was needed. At first I had to keep hefting the heavy thing and flipping it this way and that to remove screws and nails and replace them. I held that thing in place while hubby kept forgetting things and having to go get them, for qui... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 15:52:26 EST No excuses today -did a 3 mile walk with Leslie Sansone:) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5201187 Another full day. Didn't get home from all I had to do until it was dark, but after I let supper settle, I did get an exercise dvd in and exercised to it for 50 minutes. That's the first time I've used a dvd in awhile. So yay me!
My husband has been taking the dogs for a walk while I've been at work, so I knew this was my time to get back to dvd workouts. :)
For anyone who read yesterday's blog and wants to know- my husband had an x-ray of his shoulder today. The doc thinks it's a t... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 21:17:10 EST Hubby hurting and exercise and protein down today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5199500 My husband had to go to the chiropractor today (hurt himself a couple weeks ago I believe, and realizes he needs to do something), and now he needs to see the doctor tomorrow. Hurts him to drive, and he will probably end up going for an MRI and to a surgeon next. He's torn his shoulder before, so hopefully it'll be the same treatment as before- physical therapy, but we will see. For now, I'm going to need to be doing more stuff for him, though he is trying to use his other arm (non-dominant) ... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 21:17:39 EST Rough day but I did well on exercise and food http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5197728 We had to take my son to the airport today to let him go back home after a three week visit (sweet of him to do that).
That's always so hard for us, having him leave, so it was an emotional day, but I got some good walking in, and I stayed within my nutritional ranges. I am beat so am keeping this short. Good night. Tue, 8 Jan 2013 21:22:39 EST I have done well today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5195459 I tell ya, walking a dog in snow (not real deep but not a light amount either) is quite a workout. You sweat and definitely get your heart going strongly!
I've tracked all my food today and am within all the right nutrient ranges. Woohoo. I can do this!
Mon, 7 Jan 2013 17:32:02 EST I think I'm back http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5191352 Tired of all this weight I put back on.
I obviously didn't learn much when I lost weight and got to my goal previously.
However, this, I believe, is my year for conquering all kinds of things. To think positively about going ahead and doing it and being able, rather than procrastinating because I think I'll fail and/or that it's too much work -not fun (thinking of deep cleaning my home here too you see).
I'm going to go for a not as hard goal to get to for my first goal and ... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 10:30:37 EST Update on pond- it's making a come back. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5080291
That's one view of how the pond now looks.
Here is another view.

Hubby took these pics and stitched them together.
It is so nice to see so much more water back there now. Sun, 30 Sep 2012 08:22:09 EST Charlie Horse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5071423 Aw man, that charlie horse I got in my right leg early this morning was nasty! It's still quite tight. I'm doing what I can to relieve it. Sun, 23 Sep 2012 12:09:07 EST exercise/work/pond http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5064082 My body seems healed enough now to get back to some exercise, so I both walked the dogs and did 2 miles of walk away the pounds with the stretch band exercises yesterday. Today was a very full day/evening, but the dogs took me on quite the challenging 30 minute walk today -I'm sure I burned more calories than I put down, especially since I didn't bother to count the spurts of walking I did at work, but it feels good to be walking fine again.
The first week back at work has gone pretty we... Mon, 17 Sep 2012 22:42:32 EST Ever thought for sure you had turned on the dryer? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5053618 Well, I thought for sure I had....so I went to get the stuff out this morning, and it was all wet. Then, since I had to leave, I forgot all about it until this evening, late. Boy does it stink now....P U! Well, hopefully not NOW, since I put that stuff, and some vinegar, back into the latter end of a wash cycle...
Mon, 10 Sep 2012 23:26:54 EST Walking the dogs was too challenging today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5051427 Oh my husband was walking one dog, and I was walking the other- good thing too. My foot got caught on something and even as I tried pulling it out and away while that foot was still up in the air, it was still getting caught. I did manage to get it out though, and then down came the foot and wowser did I get an awfully unpleasant sensation at the base of my calf when it did. I am doing RICE. Hopefully I'll be okay for going back to work tomorrow, but not real sure about walking otherwise for ...
