Yesterday I made Golden Austrian Cauliflower Cream Soup. Unbelievably good! To the leftovers today I added curry and it gave it a whole different taste. I am more determined now to use a little creativity in making all our meals special. Wed, 3 Oct 2012 18:16:38 EST No!! Not again!! Dang that knee!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4060219 It seems that every time I start on a new weight loss and exercise program I end up hurting something: knee, sciatic nerve, lower back, foot. You name it, it's been hurt. Well after a very good start, and not to mention having a great time on my new mountain bike, my knee gave out while doing my 8 day of 28-day challenge video. Nothing fancy just a little bit of shuffling of the feet. Boy talk about pain and weakness! Well this is where I would normal get so upset that I'd totally give up... Wed, 2 Mar 2011 11:21:07 EST Now I know how my dog, Oreo feels!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4054737 We went to Brazos Bend State Park yesterday and took our bikes with us. Rode several trails and ended up going for 1 hour with a 5 minute break in the middle. It was fabulous - it was sleeveless weather with a bit of a breeze. We were riding at a nice speed and I could feel the breeze in my face and I just had to laugh. I know this is exactly how our dog Oreo feels when she sticks her head out the window when we are driving in our car. That really is a smile on her face. Wow I feel like... Mon, 28 Feb 2011 14:57:49 EST Loving my bike rides - what a way to get your cardio in!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4050228 I hadn't ridden a bike in over 10 years. Quite frankly I didn't think I still could!! Hubby bought us a couple of really nice mountain bikes and found some beautiful trails and it is wonderful. The inclines and declines were scary but I was able to keep my balance and really enjoyed the ride. Looking forward to many more outings. Sat, 26 Feb 2011 20:45:47 EST My time flies... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4031392 So much has happend since I last posted or even looked at Sparkspeople. My husband and I both retired, he ran for public office and won and life has just been crazy! We've been enjoying ourselves spending time together working hard in the community. Lots of fun and lots of food and I'm back to where I started. But that's okay. I'll pick things up right where I am and just go forward. Things have certainly changed. No longer Vegan - that went out the window when we were out campaigning ... Sat, 19 Feb 2011 23:26:10 EST The hardest part of being Vegan for me. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2947545 The most difficult part of being Vegan has been eating out with family and friends. My DH loves going Vegan with me at home and when we eat out we usually end up somewhere that's either Vegan or Vegetarian friendly. I can always find something to eat. This past weekend we went out to eat and I suggested his favorite --Vietnamese. I figured I would find me some vegetable dumplings and rice. Well that wasn't an option. The only thing that was meatless was vermicelli soup. I chose that. The w... Tue, 2 Mar 2010 10:11:36 EST Layed back after surgery and hoping not to gain weight! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2930206 The hardest part of recovering from foot surgery is not being able to exercise. I'd gotten to where I was really getting into it. My biggest concern was that I'm losing so slowly with even the exercise that I'll gain weight while I'm recovering. So, I'm being as good as I can be. I think next week I'll try doing some upper body work outs with our home gym. I'm sure I can sit and do chest, shoulder, back and arm exercises. I suppose these would burn calories too, huh? I don't mind not los... Fri, 26 Feb 2010 09:14:08 EST Recovery from final foot surgery - Ouch!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2914519 The good news is that its the last of the surgeries. I'd injured my foot several years ago and the tendons had been pulled causing my foot to slightly curve in. I'd been putting it off for so long but it's finally done. Dr. says I should be ready for the tennis courts in 8 weeks!! I'm going to have to be really good to keep from gaining weight in those 8 weeks. I plan to do upper body and abs and that will help. But what I really need is to concentrate on the lower body so I can get back ... Mon, 22 Feb 2010 18:19:31 EST Another one bites the dust. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2883287 While I would love to see this weight come off 2 lbs at a time, I happily accept a one lb loss or even a half pound loss. At least I know I'm going in the right direction. I had hoped to lose more because I've got more foot surgery scheduled on Friday and the recovery this time could be about a month. I'm not fully recovered from the first surgery which was 6 months ago. I'm told this part of it won't be as difficult so I'm not to worry. We'll see... In the meantime, I will exercise my li... Mon, 15 Feb 2010 09:23:43 EST My very own "boutique" in my closet! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2813149 About five years ago I'd lost 36 pounds following Weight Watchers. I felt great! Best of all I had a brand new wardrobe. Well things changed - I found out I had cancer, dealt with it and thank God its out of my body and I'm Cancer Free! I also ended up with a foot injury that left me walking in pain and recently I had surgery to correct it and I'm still now 100% but I'm able to do some cardio - scheduled for my last foot surgery next month : ( Needless to say I gained all my weight back an... Fri, 29 Jan 2010 12:22:52 EST What a weekend - all my buddies are getting a goodie!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2793474 This was truly a great weekend. It started Friday with all the support from new Sparkfriends: good advice, lots of encouragement and just being a friend. I love Sparkpeople!

Then I bought Jillians Wii Ultimatum 2010 and The 30 Day Shred and started on both right away. Boy am I sore - and I thought I'd been exercising!! What a difference!! Kept my points up on the Weight Watchers on-line and stuck to my Vegan Diet as I have since January 8, 2010.

Got recommendations f... Mon, 25 Jan 2010 10:19:15 EST How in the world does everyone keep up?!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2782120 I have been trying to follow my Weight Watcher points, keeping my own journal and also putting it into Sparks journal to see how I'm doing on my nutrition percentages and it is so hard. Especially since I turned Vegan. I've been trying different recipes which I'm totally loving. The big problem is that I have to add the info into Spark so that I can add it to my food log. Now since I've joined WW on-line, I'm having to enter my recipes there so that I can add them to my WW food log. I'm... Fri, 22 Jan 2010 13:36:31 EST Scallops and Oysters and Shrimp, Oh No! A Vegan Dilemma! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2773096 Going Vegan has been great - I love all the new combinations of foods that I'm trying and I'm enjoying trying new grains. My first dilemma came this weekend when my family and I went to a Steak and Seafood restaurant. I love seafood!! I tried imagining these guys with their little faces and looking into their eyes like I do my Dog, Oreo and Cat, Neo. It worked for the shrimp, but not for the scallops and oysters -- no faces!! Well I survived that - ended up eating 2 dinner salads with o... Wed, 20 Jan 2010 15:54:39 EST A Vegan Lifestyle For Me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2728372 I've been trying to lose 50+ pounds for what seems forever. Lose a few - gain a few has been a constant lifestyle. I have always set my focus on how to lose weight but not how to live a healthy life. BUT, the past - here's the future: On Jan 7, 2010 I stumbled on to PETA.org and then from there to the GoVegan website. Giving up animal products was not what I had in mind when I started the new year and set my goals for weight loss, but after time spent on both of these websites I've decid... Mon, 11 Jan 2010 11:05:38 EST Back to square one!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2576464 I've tried so hard to get myself in gear after foot surgery and actually joined The Couch to 5K Team to help me get going. Started out fine with the walk/run schedule and my right foot (the one that was operated on) was doing just fine. But after a couple of walk/runs my left knee started bothering and now I can't even walk without pain. It feels like Jello under and around my knee cap and the pain is there whether I walk or not. The last time I had this happened was when I was playing te... Fri, 20 Nov 2009 10:16:50 EST Walked a half mile - a first since foot surgery!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2534154 There's nothing like encouragement to get oneself really motivated. Yesterday I received a pair of virtual shoes from "Arubinst", then I joined the "Couch to 5K Group" and got welcomed and encouraged by some of the team, and I read about their goals and plans to walk/jog in a 5Ks and I thought to myself - I can do it too! Okay, so I've had foot surgery and I'm only hobbling 10 or 15 minutes at a time, but that's only temporary. Well today, I pushed myself not through foot pain, but more o... Wed, 4 Nov 2009 13:13:18 EST There's Always Something... http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2505087 It seems like every time I get going on my weight loss and exercise plan something happens: sciatic muscle spasms caused a problem first and walking was painful, got that kind of out of the way and started up again and had to have foot surgery for an old injury and I've been hobbling for 2 1/2 months now. And the bad thing with me is if I'm not exercising that means I'm "off the plan" and the diet goes out the window too!! You'd think I'd concentrate more on the diet to make up for the fac... Sat, 24 Oct 2009 18:41:25 EST Running on Empty http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=777777 I'm totally not in control. Haven't been for a while now. Today for the first time since what seems like forever I logged in and entered my nutrition and my wt (gained of course!!) My whole intent in starting with Sparkpeople was to lose weight by taking care of me. It's seemed like it would be pretty easy to put me first. But it hasn't been and I'm spread so thin! I'm back at square one - how do I put me first. For starters I'm not working through lunch. Im stopping to put in my nutri... Mon, 8 Oct 2007 13:45:58 EST Back in the Groove http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=614439 Nothing feels better than knowing that you are doing what your supposed to be doing and knowing that you are in control of your own life. That's what I am - In control of me. Tue, 19 Jun 2007 23:53:56 EST Friends http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=587354 It is so wonderful to have friends. Today I got a call from a friend whom I love dearly but haven't had a chance to spend time with because I've been so busy with son's graduation and every committee in the world. It was so nice to talk with Debbie and to share. And I also chatted with my Sparkpeople friends - they are now a very valuable part of my life. I am blessed. Sat, 2 Jun 2007 12:55:43 EST Weigh in after 1st week !! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=585471 I lost 5 lbs! Okay, so some may say it was mostly water weight. Well, guess what, I was holding on to that water weight for a long time so I'm thrilled to be rid of it!! Fri, 1 Jun 2007 07:13:03 EST I love that I have choices. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=584462 I'm learning something new every day! Yesterday's salad came to a whopping 514 calories. It included pumpkin seeds, 1 oz of ham, 3 tabelespoons of fat free dressing and then there was the crackers. Well today I decided to have a full meal for lunch - Chicken breast, w/skin, 1 cup of rice and 1 cup of green beans. I felt like I deserved the "splurge" since I'd been eating salads most lunches. Well to my surprise my lunch selections came in at 389 calories and it was delicious.
<BR... Thu, 31 May 2007 13:09:37 EST Encouraged http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=579382 My sister came for my son's graduation. She looked great! She's 67. is diabetic and recently was diagnosed with some type of renal problem. She's lost so much weight - not because she's ill, but because she's watching what she eats and excercises daily. I watched her on my treadmill (the one I've not been using at all!!). She was doing one of the preset programs and she didn't adjust the speed nor the incline as they increased like I always have. She is obviously very fit. We went for ... Mon, 28 May 2007 14:55:11 EST Getting Started http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=578632 It is time. i've waited long enough, made plenty of excuses and avoided the facts. I am heavier than I have ever been. Not healty, not pretty to look at, no fun. I deserve better. My husband deserves better. My family deserves better. So -- it is time.

Adrain has graduated from High School this week. Thank you Lord! I can now focus on me. All those committees are finished, no more prograd, no more JROTC, etc. etc. I will know focus on me, my health, my life w/my DH.
... Sun, 27 May 2007 23:58:55 EST
