Today, however, someone else took my slim fast before I got to it. It kind of upset me since it is the only nurishment I get before heading for home at the end of the day and I am usually very hungry by the time I get home. Those 180 calories are pretty important in my diet and I'm faithful about logging them each day. That... Thu, 2 Nov 2017 12:53:53 EST Cold Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6425632 It is rainy and cold today. Not just cool but down right cold. At least to me. Ever since menopause my upper body is cold. My arms especially, so I wear long sleeves as soon as it goes below 80 degrees out. I have taken to wearing a jacket inside almost all the time - currently have on my lime green hoodie though I keep a lilac one at the ready in the bedroom when I change out of my day clothes.

I hate always being chilled. My mother was always cold too and used to keep her... Fri, 27 Oct 2017 16:25:41 EST Consistency is Key http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6425206 This is my fourth day in a row of getting up early to exercise. I feel so much better and my step counts have been more consistent too. I would love to get back up to 20,000 day but I don't see how I can make that happen anymore when I have to drive back and forth to school instead of walking like I used to. There is no way I can walk there and back and still have any life besides the walking. I will think on it some more and try to come up with an alternative.

I have also gone... Thu, 26 Oct 2017 08:35:25 EST Start of the Cold http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6424665 The weather is turning cold and they turned on the heat at school. Wasn't expecting it since last week they were trying to freeze us and I took to wearing a pair of gloves to class (lime green) and heavy sweaters. Today I show up in another sweater and had the breath sucked out of me when I unlocked the computer lab door. Holey cow! I tried to find a maintenance person to do something since I couldn't adjust the heat level down but didn't find anyone so I just opened a window for the rest... Tue, 24 Oct 2017 18:19:39 EST Dirt Moving http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6423891 Yesterday was a weird day for me. Just couldn't get motivated to do much besides clean the house. I swept and mopped every floor on the main level and it looks fantastic. DH even commented on it when he returned from his step-mom's funeral in the Thumb. Our final house inspection is Monday and I'd like the permanent photos of our house to look good for the bank. I even filed away all the paper filing that I've been putting off. I hate filing in any form though it is handy to have stuff ... Sun, 22 Oct 2017 12:21:05 EST Cooking Day Came Early http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6423381 Coyotes were howling all last night and I got very little sleep. Just when I thought they were done (brief pause) they started up again. DH was blissfully snoring away through the whole thing. It sounds like we have a lot of coyotes in our area. Probably more than we had on the farm which was way more than I wanted that's for sure.

One year we had a fellow set up traps for them. He was catching and killing them for their pelts and the bounty that Michigan will pay for them. B... Fri, 20 Oct 2017 18:19:06 EST Early Morning Fun http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6422609 Since moving into our new house I have slept like the dead each evening. My head hits the pillow and I am out like a light until about 7AM the next day. Except today. Today I woke early for some reason and after laying in bed deciding if I should try to go back to sleep or just get up I elected to get up and go into the basement and get in a little extra exercise.

Max the cat was nowhere to be seen (where do cats hide anyway). So I headed down on my own and tuned into an episod... He sits in a chair and watches TV while I get some steps in on the rebounder (and watch TV too). Today I wasn't moving fast enough for him and he went downstairs and I didn't notice. Then I heard him crying. I called his name since I didn't realize he was down in the basement and he cried out again. I glanced down th... Tue, 17 Oct 2017 19:37:14 EST Changing Seasons, Changing Clothing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6421754 Swapped out my summer clothing today for fall/winter stuff. DH hauled up the plastic tubs up to the bedroom and I proceeded to fold up the summer things and try on the winter wear and hang in the closet. I put 3 sweaters instantly into the Goodwill box since I can't remember wearing them in the past year (or even 2). There is a too-tight UnderArmour type top that older DD will love so I set it out for her to try on when she comes over for dinner tonight. I also went thru my exercise gear ... Sun, 15 Oct 2017 15:12:34 EST Dinner Out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6420758 Mandatory family dinner tonight. Older sister picked out Olive Garden which I never go to because of the sodium content of all their food. I spent a great deal of time last night going over their menu online and then again this morning too. Way more time that I needed to spend but I have found nothing that is within reason. Why in the world is their food so high in sodium? Weirdly enough when I first pulled up their menu a pop-up screen came up about how they are changing their menu to r... Thu, 12 Oct 2017 11:45:15 EST Back to Running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6420060 I was running pretty consistently for about 2 weeks but my knees were absolutely killing me. They even ached when I was laying in bed. Not good at all. So I stopped running for a week and they are back to normal. Today I will attempt running again as I actually miss it. I want to so very much. I had forgotten how much I loved running. Tue, 10 Oct 2017 11:39:58 EST Planting my new plants http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6419144 Our yard finally (finally!) got our yard regraded this week. It looks wonderful, actually more like it did before they came and took all my topsoil off and made it all flat. We will still have to carry wheelbarrows full of dirt over next to the garage to bring it back to life (about 20 carts I'm figuring) but after that it will all be fine. Younger DD and I bought some plants at Lowe's which was discounting them half-off. Nice plants too. Well half-off means "let's buy two!". When DH ca... Sat, 7 Oct 2017 18:42:55 EST Segways are Fun! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6416831 Older DD and I spent a day in Chicago in celebration of her birthday. Did an evening Segway tour which was, by far, the most fun I have ever had in Chicago! Would totally recommend to anyone. 3 hours of sightseeing fun and a long stopover in Grant Park where our tour guide let us just tool around (and go fast) on the Segways. I would definately do a segway tour again, either in Chicago during the day or in some other town I visit in the future.

But not wanting to mess up the lo... Sun, 1 Oct 2017 07:22:52 EST Too Much Heat http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6414282 Thursday it was 97 outside and I only got to exercise in my basement. Just too hot for me. Friday we only had a half day of school because of the heat which really left me in a quandry - what to do with that extra time? Still too hot to do anything outside, just walking to my car after work sucked the life from me. I did make a run to Home Depot to get a couple extra large cardboard boxes though on the way home.

We got 8 pillows with our new couches - eight! They are hard as... Sat, 23 Sep 2017 18:43:27 EST Day 7 ! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6413179 Seven days of running. I think my muscle are rebelling. Ever since I did the hil work on Monday my knees have been killing me. Last night I only ran a little and no hills at all. What is weird is they really ache when I sit down but not so much when I stand, so I've been standing more. It won't stop me from running though. Today I lift weights too. Last time my arms hurt like the devil the next day. Just means they are waking up from a too long rest period. Wed, 20 Sep 2017 11:37:54 EST Return of the Sweat Monkey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6412837 Yesterday was a long day for me. By the time I got home I was hungry and tired. DD had class last night and I almost fell asleep in a chair before she left at 5:30. But just as I was drifting off I got a text from an old friend who asked what I was doing. When I responded that I was deciding to either take a nap or go running he told me to put my running gear on and hit the trail and I would feel better. And I did just that! And it turns out he was correct too. I did a little hill work... Tue, 19 Sep 2017 11:49:52 EST Day 5 and still running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6412210 Looks like I have a little streak going! Five days of running now. Almost didn't do it cause it is so hot out and I took such a long bike ride this morning but I knew I wanted to keep my streak going so I did it anyway. I feel pretty fantastic right now and I'm planning my run tomorrow early in the AM since it is suppose to rain later in the day. I'm also hoping to get in a shorter bike ride after DD leaves for her class in the evening. It's my favorite time since it is quiet in the hous... Sun, 17 Sep 2017 17:56:56 EST Day 4 - Switching it Up a Bit http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6411793 DH and I took a long bike ride today, our first of the season since our bikes were in storage while our house was being built. It was a wonderful ride. Pretty cool when we started out and then quite warm when we got near the lake the trail bisects. There was some road paving happening on one of the cross streets so we couldn't make it all the way to the next town since they wouldn't let us cross the fresh pavement. But we were close anyway and had such a nice ride it was okay. Tomorrow f... Sat, 16 Sep 2017 11:32:25 EST Ick-Ball Sweat Monkey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6411610 Day 3 of running and I'm loving it. I'm not fast but I'm like the energizer bunny - I can keep going. I was pretty sweaty yesterday after running so since today was warmer I actually waited a bit before heading out. Waited until close to 5PM and then walked to the trail.

Not many people yet which was good and I started my slow pace. Around the first curve comes another runner who is moving about the same pace as me only in the other direction. He has a mask over his mouth - as... Fri, 15 Sep 2017 21:19:36 EST Silk Purse from a Sow's Ear http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6411234 Yesterday was a really stressful day for me. I have had so many troubles with my builder and developer it just boggles the mind. They had to dig up our sewer THREE times, once even before we moved in! Last Sunday DH discovered that it was not working again. O-M-G what the heck?

So he instantly contacted both the developer; who was the installer, and our builder too. They came over and walked around some then decided that they could wait until Monday. Monday came and they dug ... Thu, 14 Sep 2017 17:30:13 EST More Junk Out of My Life http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6407871 Every night I have been sorting thru boxes. Originally I thought I would break them down and take to recycling but instead I have piled them near the front door and am now filling them with stuff for Goodwill. DD and I currently have 6 boxes awaiting transport today. I'm pretty pleased with the amount of stuff we have gone thru already since I was able to pull my car into the garage last night! One car in, one car to go.

There is so much stuff it is almost overwhelming. We mov... Tue, 5 Sep 2017 10:04:28 EST Moving Day Finally Arrived! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6403590 It has taken 10 long months but our house is finally finished. We moved in last Friday and DD and I have been going over to the apartment almost daily to pick up more stuff that didn't make it during the move. We left the TV and a single chair on purpose since we don't have a TV set up at the new house yet. And that is due to the fact that we don't have internet service yet. So we also left the computer and my desk and chair so I can get in a little internet time when we stop over. DD al... Thu, 24 Aug 2017 19:46:38 EST Upcoming Vacation Plans http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6382950 This has been a busy weekend! Work is finally progressing at the house - we may get to move in there by the end of July if all goes well. Trim is going up around windows and some areas of the floor, appliances are there though not installed yet. And both DD's and I worked diligently on assembling all those IKEA things I bought for the house - pax closet system, 5 billy bookcases, and a sektion 5 door cabinet which was a nightmare to assemble though looks absolutely gorgeous in it's little ... Mon, 3 Jul 2017 19:43:32 EST New Virtual Walk http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6376275 It took me 18 months to walk all the necessary steps to complete the PCT on the Walking 4 Fun website. Older DD and I actually walked part of the real PCT last summer when we were in Oregon. But I never really enjoy that trek until Washington, especially as we got closer and closer to Canada. Lovely. And who knew that the government keeps that border clear cut of all trees! Quite a sight to see that's for sure. But on June 6 I started the Portugal Camino and today this popped up when I ... Sat, 17 Jun 2017 12:04:38 EST Fresh Air http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6375448 67 degrees this morning, much cooler than it has been. After I returned from my morning walk I left the door open for Max the cat. He has been suffering so much because we have had to keep the apartment closed up with the air on. He LOVES fresh air! He is so funny in the morning - I always open the door for him while I put my shoes on and he will cram his little nose down in the crack at the bottom and inhale. He does it so loud and I know exactly how he feels with that first sniff of fr... Thu, 15 Jun 2017 09:26:40 EST Shopping for DD http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6374737 Did my morning walk at 5AM today. It was already 74 outside and so very humid. I peeled off my tank as soon as I got back in the apartment and had a dickens of a time getting my sweaty socks off too. All before even attempting to climb the stairs into (no one could see me on the landing). I was caked in sweat but I have to admit that I felt pretty darn good. Had a really nice walk, went further than usual. Always nice to mix it up a bit, and I'm actually excited about tomorrow's walk to... Tue, 13 Jun 2017 17:07:49 EST Darn Aria! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6374087 I've had my Aria scale for a little over a year. Love it. We get together once a day, have a little chat and most of the time I go away feeling pretty good. Then Saturday I decided to put in new batteries and Aria got mean to me. Today I tried to bond with her again and instead she said "51.3%". What the heck does that mean, I thought to myself? So I go to their website and watch the little video. What! Aria thinks I'm 51.3% fat! I have never been so insulted in my life. I've been l... Mon, 12 Jun 2017 08:38:17 EST June 9 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6373067 This has been a stressful week for me. Last day of school should have been joyful but so many bad things happened that it was just overwhelming. Got forced off the road by a semi in a big hurry, got called a liar by the apartment manager because I complained about the horrific noise every day at 4:07AM (which wakes me and turns me into a zombie the rest of the day), discovered that yet again nothing has been done at the house. Siding is hanging off in strips because they just can't seem to... Fri, 9 Jun 2017 19:10:37 EST Almost Summer Vacation! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6371173 I had a hard day yesterday. It was soooo hot in the apartment and even hotter outside. I felt sick and ended up lying down for a while because of the heat with a fan on. By the time it was bedtime I was begging DH to turn on the air conditioning I just couldn't take it any longer and he did! I slept much better after that.

No exercise yesterday because of the heat. So far none today either since I had to get DD out the door and to her intern job before 8AM. I am planning a lo... Mon, 5 Jun 2017 11:58:00 EST Another Depressing Day of House Stuff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6370453 DD and I bought the paint for the exterior doors today. By the time we got back to the house it was already above 80. She washed down all the doors while I filled nail holes with wood putty. By the time we were done my desire to paint had vanished. We will try again tomorrow.

DH had to scrap tile goop off the master bedroom floor from our contractor when he tiled the master bath and hallway bath. DH went over around 9 and was still scrapping when we got there at 11. He has to... Sat, 3 Jun 2017 20:08:16 EST Summer is Quickly Approaching http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6370041 Bang, bang. Clang, clang. Pound, pound, pound. "Marvin!"

That was the start of my day at 4:07AM. Lordy I hate this apartment. The trash man comes daily at this ungodly hour and our neighbors, the I-Don't-Know-How-To-Parks are constantly arguing or yelling or doing something outside with their dog that seems to always involve noise. My contractor thinks I'm joking when I tell him I'm moving in as soon as there is water. I will sleep on the floor in a sleeping bag just to get ... Fri, 2 Jun 2017 19:52:04 EST Asparagus the Wonder Vegetable http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6368695 Yesterday, Memorial Day, has long been a cook-out day. But, alas, we are charcoal grilling people not propane and our grill is not welcome in our apartment complex. So we had hot dogs cooked the old-fashion way - boiled.

We also fixed asparagus which is in-season and plentiful lately. I just adore asparagus and fix it different ways. Wrapped in bacon is always a huge hit, baked plain with a little olive oil and sea salt is also much requested which is how I fixed it yesterday. ... Tue, 30 May 2017 17:20:51 EST Nothing Like a New Pair of Laces http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6368546 I love those new walking shoes! Brooks Ghost in purple (don't you just love purple shoes?) What I have noticed, however, is that the shoelaces are too dark to untie when I return from my morning walk. They are also purple and in the dim light that is my apartment entryway they are invisible to me.

So yesterday I had had enough and went in search of a newer pair of laces. I keep a pretty good supply of old laces from shoes that have been discarded in a drawer and lo and behold t... Tue, 30 May 2017 11:48:59 EST Shoes Needed http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6366884 In my last blog I complained about how much my feet have been hurting. Days and days. It takes a while for them to "warm-up" at the start of my morning walk and again for my evening walk. Someone mentioned my shoes, and I'm pretty consciencious about my shoes, watching the tread, etc. Well, obviously I didn't realize how long I'd had this particular pair because last night after my walk (with older DD) I actually looked at the tread.

O-M-G there was no tread! Older DD actually... This in turn has made me have to ramp up my step counts to keep up (or at least get closer). I've been getting over 20,000 every day (to his 50,000) which is wonderful but today - lordy - today my feet are soooooo tired.

Have you ever woken up and even before your feet hit the floor they feel tired? That is how my day started. Just laying there they were already achey. The mere movement of shuffling aro... DD hasn't passed the stone yet but the end is getting nearer we think.

Took a nice walk after the rain today (which I slept thru). Sun, 21 May 2017 18:03:08 EST The Excitement Never Ends http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6364123 Last night we had to take DD in to emergency. She got sick almost instantly while we were at Aldi getting groceries. Made me hurry home and then she vomited off & on for 3 hours. Hours! She took a couple showers and at one point I heard what sounded like moaning coming from her bathroom. I opened the door and she was in the fetal position on the bathroom rug. I knew then there was something seriously wrong. I went downstairs and got the car around, DH put a bathrobe on her and helped h... Fri, 19 May 2017 22:10:30 EST Pockets http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6363566 Today I was reading the list of fitness gear that would be useful. One of the items mentioned was a pair of yoga pants with a pocket on the side. Ah, pockets my number one item I look for in pants. So I clicked on the link which took me to Amazon.com and let me get a good look at them.

Calling that little pouch a pocket is a real stretch. To me a pocket should hold more than a single key! I need more than one pocket when I'm out walking. I carry my ipod, house keys, sometimes... Thu, 18 May 2017 12:55:06 EST Much Needed Walk and Relaxation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6360732 I have been doing end of year testing on the whole middle school for the past week. It is a slog to get thru each kid, sometime they have to take it more than once because they will goof around and the new score is lower than the beginning score so they have to do it over. They hate it, I hate it. Such a time waster. But the worse thing is that I don't get to take my early morning walk since I have to be at school before first bell to get kids and drag them to my computer lab. Ugh. It h... Thu, 11 May 2017 18:15:01 EST Race http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6359012 DH and I walked in the park today. Haven't done that in a few weeks and it was really pleasant. Yesterday morn people were out setting up road signs for a race that was to happen later. One of many in our little town but I didn't realize this one was so close, actually starting in the park and going into surrounding neighborhoods. Our "newspaper" contains no actual news and doesn't really report on much that happens in our town anyway, concentrating on mostly Grand Rapids, which is miles ... Sun, 7 May 2017 20:33:01 EST Challenging Myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6358384 Today on one of the spark blogs I read someone made a comment about their new 5% challenge. I've never been part of one of those challenges. So I think I will try one with myself this month to see how I do and if I can handle that kind of pressure even if it is on myself. I'm a pretty laid-back kinda gal. I do my own thing and have been pretty happy with my results so far, though there are days when I wonder why my weight isn't much lower than it currently is. Not sure why VW has decided that 39 needs to be paid attention to (with a little snowflake icon no less). It was actually 38 by the time I arrived at our building but it sure didn't feel that cool. It was sunny and just plain delightful 67 . We get so few amazingly sunny days that even when it is cooler everyone thinks it is warmer and we enjoy them to the fullest!

I've been doing end of the year testi... Wed, 3 May 2017 20:02:41 EST His End http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6355786 My brother passed today. Older sister called as I was getting ready to start dinner. She was crying and said he wouldn't last much longer. So I scooted over to the hospice instantly. He breathing was weird and he was totally unaware. I held his hand and told him we were all there. It was okay now. I held his hand til the end.

I'm ok. Sun, 30 Apr 2017 20:37:50 EST Stuff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6353946 I have discovered that dying is a very expensive thing. Both my parents had heart attacks and died in their own homes (or shortly after arriving at the hospital). Two brothers died in car accidents, two more in their homes from heart attacks, a sister found her cancer and died within 2 weeks (at home), older sister lingered a bit in a nursing home. B will be moving to Hospice home at end of week. After insurance they will still be responsible for a minimum of $275 per day. I don't think ... I feel better today though he is not doing well at all. Sleeps almost constantly or if he is awake it is for moments only. He takes low dose pain meds but that will be changing today. He also now has oxygen and is getting nurishment thru a feeding tube. I sat and watched him sleep off and on for about 2 hours today. He would open one eye (the other no longer opens due to the tumors on his brain) and say stuff but was totally unintelligib... Tue, 25 Apr 2017 16:53:14 EST Difficult Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6353025 Today was a hard day for me. Not fitness wise but my brother has been in my constant thoughts. Last week he took a bad turn and told his daughter, who he has been staying with, that he wanted to be moved to the Hospice across town. He does not want to die in her home.

I found myself crying at school twice and actually spent time with our school therapy dog to settle myself back down. It is taking a toll on me that I was unaware of. Tomorrow I will go see him again after school. I... Mon, 24 Apr 2017 20:41:32 EST New Walk http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6352136 Yesterday I got out of school an hour earlier than usual, so instead of walking partway home from there DD picked me up and took me back to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore where she volunteers every Friday and I walked home from there.

It was a really good walk too and I already told her that I want to do it again I had so much fun and I got in over 13,000 steps! Walked some residential areas I don't normally travel. Did more hill work than I usually do. Still got to walk thru my... Sat, 22 Apr 2017 20:21:35 EST Missing Little Ann (the cat) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6350306 Last fall when we moved into this apartment we had to rehome our oldest cat of 14 years. She seemed to thrive at the farm she moved to, meeting new cat friends, catching mice in the barns there. But I miss her very much. Whenever I had a chance I would ask the teacher who she lives with about her. She always tells me she is fine but I find it odd that no one in their family interacts with Little Ann at all.

Little was always a very vocal cat, she loves to talk to you and alwa... Tue, 18 Apr 2017 18:08:36 EST Friday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6348638 Went to visit my older brother today. Very surprising how quickly he has gone downhill. He is now bed bound and staying with his oldest daughter. He was drifting in and out of sleep while I was there but still joking a little. It was hard to see him like he is, he has aged so much in the two weeks since they found the cancer.

DH is now painting at the house. He had borrowed a big spray painting machine from a fellow at work, but true to form he couldn't get it work so ende up hav... Fri, 14 Apr 2017 22:04:17 EST
