We ended up staying for 3 hours and had one designed for our new house. All I can say is - O-M-G why didn't I go there first! Jennifer, the lady we talked with, not only answered all our questions but actually LISTENED to us and what we wanted in our kitchen. That was huge for me. At the end of the 3 hours we saw on her computer screen the kitchen that has been floating around in my head! I was thrilled. And even better... Sat, 22 Oct 2016 17:44:51 EST Oh My Poor Little Ears http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6254123 DH was in rare form last night snoring. O-M-G it was awful. I would poke him and he would stop for a few minutes. Then I would push him and again just a few minutes respite. At one point I couldn't take it and got out of bed and sat in the livingroom with the cat for a bit but I was sooooo sleepy that I went back to bed. Luckily Max the cat is on my side and he came in shortly and woke DH up by licking his ear (that means "I'm hungry") and DH got out of bed and feed Max. After that I fe... Tue, 18 Oct 2016 15:08:43 EST Kitchens http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6253093 Went to see the progress on the kitchen design for the new house. I have been fighting with the designer for weeks now. She has a real hang-up on keeping everything symmetrical. I don't really care if it is or not I just want it to function for me. Knife drawer in a certain spot, trash can in a certain spot, microwave not too high or too low. I'm really not that fussy but I absolutely draw the line at those awful blind cabinets. I don't know who invented them but I'm pretty certain they... Mon, 17 Oct 2016 18:07:05 EST Fantastic Day for a Walk http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6252524 It was a wonderful overcast but still warm day so DH took me on a very long walk. We walked all the way to the park, then around the park, then down some side streets and finally back to the apartment complex. Over 17,000 steps in all which was fantastic. I was getting a little tired by the time we were almost home and I told him that if there was a place for me to sit and rest a bit I could have gone further. But it worked out.

Just as we were walking up to our door older DD... Sun, 16 Oct 2016 18:03:42 EST Walking News http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6251762 I am doing much better on my walking steps this month. For much of this year I have been struggling trying to meet my goal each day but this month I am more determined than ever to get back on track. I'm back using my spreadsheet to track my progress, which oddly enough, had me taking two long walks yesterday in hopes of setting a higher step count for that day.

Three walks resulted in me getting to 23,000. I was quite pleased as I synced my FitBit before sliding into bed last n... Sat, 15 Oct 2016 03:20:22 EST More Shoe Tales http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6250583 Yep it's that time again - walking shoe buying time that is. Last Saturday DD and I headed up to Lansing to look at new walking shoes. We always go to Playmakers and I have been wearing the Brooks Dyad for a couple years now. They are comfy and work well. But this last pair hasn't lasted as long as some of the others. Or because of my earlier foot injury I have been walking differently in them so they are no longer comfy.

So DD is pulling all the 8.5 shoes off the sale rack th... Wed, 12 Oct 2016 18:41:36 EST Strange? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6250069 The survey stakes were put in for our new house today. I'm pretty excited! Can't dig until the bank gives the go-ahead but it is nice to see where the house will be located on the lot, how close it is to the pond (not too close), and a little surprised how close our neighbors house will be to ours - I think he is the bare minimum off the property line.

My doctor finally called today about those lab results. She sees nothing wrong with them, actually called them "on target". Wha... Tue, 11 Oct 2016 19:34:45 EST Insurance Company http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6248914 A representative called from our insurance company yesterday for me. It was pretty unexpected actually. They had a dietician call about my poor scores to offer helpful advice. Actually we had a really nice chat and she will be calling back in a couple of months to check on my progress and to set up another blood test to see if my scores can be lowered. She was pretty much in agreement on the stress angle for why the scores were up, especially since DH's were also and his are always down. ... Sun, 9 Oct 2016 17:06:00 EST Deer & Running Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6247347 Had a great walk this morning. Cool weather, no rain, just perfect. Went further than ever before too. Saw some deer in someone's yard sleeping under a bush but they got up and ran when I walked by. And then strangely enough I discovered that I was running. Didn't even think about it but was doing it. It felt good and I kept it up longer than before. This running thing is getting to be fun!

And you know what I have discovered about the running? It makes my walks go by reall... Thu, 6 Oct 2016 11:52:57 EST Jogging to Relieve Heel Pain? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6246873 Most days my cat gets me up. Without him jumping on the bed at 6AM I tend to oversleep unless the sun is shining in. Today not only did I sleep in so did the cat (lazy slug). When I rolled out of bed at 7:30 (yikes) I discovered him sleeping curled up on the sofa in the living room. 7:30 is too late to take a walk since I have to hit the shower no later than 8:30 to make it to work on time. So today no morning walk for me but I did get to enjoy a leisurely breakfast of misc leftovers tha... Wed, 5 Oct 2016 16:18:01 EST Extra Time on my hands http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6246168 When I head out in the morning I usually am passed by an older woman who is returning to the apartment complex after her morning run in the dark. The first day I saw her it made me run too since I didn't want to be outdone by someone older than myself. And the next day I did it again just because. It has been over a week now and it is starting to turn into a habit which I really enjoy. Today after my run/walk I noticed that I have trimmed a full half hour off my time. O-M-G 30 minutes! ... Tue, 4 Oct 2016 09:54:14 EST New Month http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6245160 Well the bloodwork results are in and I didn't do so well this year. Neither did DH so I'm guessing the stressful year we have had so far is the culprit. Course you can't tell the insurance company that, they just wouldn't buy it. But we can have our results redone in 6 months and he and I are both going to do that.

My step count has been down for a few months now. I just can't seem to get as much walking in as I used to. I've had so many problems with my feet this year and no... Sun, 2 Oct 2016 13:23:06 EST Weird Week Stuff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6243290 This has been an odd week for me. My brother-in-law passed away suddenly last week and his funeral was yesterday. He was married to my sister who passed 2 years ago. Funny guy and he will be missed.

Today was my mandatory blood work for our insurance. Since it has to take place in Ann Arbor, and I do not live in Ann Arbor, it also means that I have to take a day off work to get there each year. Fasting for 12 hours first so I'm hungry. Then driving to AA, finding a parking sp... Wed, 28 Sep 2016 18:37:57 EST Moving and Settling In http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6239802 Moving is a very stressful thing. I have never done it before to the extent that we have just done. When I got married and moved from my mother's house to start a life with my husband I had literally only a few items of clothing and a mattress that we did not need since we would be sleeping together. But after spending 27 years (and raising our family there) we accummulated so much stuff that I am still sorting and sifting weeks later. We ended up renting two storage units - one 10 x 20 a... Wed, 21 Sep 2016 18:49:54 EST Back in the Saddle Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6235314 Well we are all moved into the apartment. We went from a 2400 sq ft house with a huge kitchen to a small 1000 apartment with only 3 cabinets in the kitchen. Yes, really just 3. I have commandeered the linen closet in our bedroom as a pantry of sorts. DD and I have sorted all our spices and herbs and arranged alphabetically in plastic tubs in the linen closet. It is a pain to find stuff when we need it now since it isn't right at our fingertips. We just have to be more organized and get ... Tue, 13 Sep 2016 18:32:11 EST Family Woes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6228318 This week has been a roller coaster of emotions. We are in the process of moving out of our long-time home into an apartment in what we thought was a stepping stone to the building of our dream home. Turns out it may not be.

My nephew, who is a master electrician, had agreed to help us by setting the electric panel and letting my DH do the actual wiring in the new house under his tutelage. This was going to save us thousands and he would be free to do other jobs and just check o... Thu, 1 Sep 2016 10:09:50 EST Stuff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6223289 The last day of summer vacation is always the saddest day. It goes by so quickly, much faster that any other day of the year.

Today I walked at the park again. It is getting easier and easier and I have very little pain in my foot now. Occasionally I will get a twinge but nothing like I experienced in the past. I can do three laps easily now and some days the only that stops me is the glare of the sun and the heat.

I have been losing again too, which makes me very ha... Tue, 23 Aug 2016 18:49:46 EST Day off from packing (finally) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6220487 Did three full laps again today and then later DD and I headed over to the mall in Ann Arbor to walk around and window shop. So far I am up to over 20,000 steps! Haven't seen numbers like that in months.

Window shopping. I used to love window shopping but since adopting a more frugal lifestyle and deciding that doing that was a recipe for disaster I just don't shop much. Today we were actually looking for silicone cooking mats so we were doing a bit more than window shopping. ... Thu, 18 Aug 2016 18:45:04 EST Where Did That Come From? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6219650 More boxing and hauling yesterday and not enough steps to talk about but I was still moving so it is all good. Today, while quite humid, is cool enough and I headed over to the park early today to get some steps in. Did three (!) big laps and it felt wonderful. I could have walked longer but choose to stop at my car and eat my morning 70 calories of cheese instead and guzzle down some water. After doing my stretches I was off for home again and my cluttered house.

DH keeps brin... Wed, 17 Aug 2016 10:56:44 EST Future exercise class http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6217934 The house is slowly emptying. There are few pieces of large furniture that we can't move on our own, just too heavy. Our china cabinet and the fold-out couch in the basement. DH 'thinks' he can move that couch by himself but I really don't want him getting a hernia even trying. I think the rest of the stuff will be going in the apartment, though the dining area is small here so we will be using only 3 chairs but storing the 4th in DD's bedroom for when older DD comes over for Sunday dinne... Sun, 14 Aug 2016 18:09:06 EST More moving tales http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6217371 So we finally have a closing date on the house and the farmland. Still over a week away but DH has been busy digging out all sorts of stuff from the vast cavern that is our basement. He brought up three (3!) Barbie cars yesterday. They were filthy since they have been parked under some shelving for years and years. He took them outside for the rain to clean off but so far no rain has come.

Then he brought up the tub of Barbie dolls themselves. Holey cow did my daughters own a ... Sat, 13 Aug 2016 16:43:46 EST Nice Long Walk http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6213907 After resting my feet for a couple days I was back at it again. I am trying very hard to not go overboard. Did two long laps and a short foray into the neighboring neighborhood to check out a house I saw in the newspaper that was having an open house today. Not sure why I went but it didn't matter since I never did find it.

Left later than I ever had before - 9AM. I am usually done with my morning walk way before 9AM so just starting out was weird. But my friend Sharon was the... Sun, 7 Aug 2016 19:50:34 EST Box Tales http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6213409 Turns out those $1.14 boxes were too big. Hernia big is what DH called them. So we returned them today and got the next smaller size and finished boxing up all my books. DH is not happy with all my books. Granted a good deal of them are from when the girls were little. I hate to get rid of all those kid books because a lot of care was taken in choosing them and some of them are from an old friend who is no longer with us. We also own a complete set of childrens science books that older ... Sat, 6 Aug 2016 20:13:11 EST Boxing Up Life http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6212922 Started boxing stuff today and hauling to the storage facility. I did books from the den until we ran out of cardboard boxes. DH is pretty fussy about the size of the boxes we use. I mentioned that we could get some boxes from the grocery store that did not have food in them but he is pretty adamant on the size. I even talked with the grocery guy and he said to come before 9AM since they are pretty picked over after 9. I may still do it anyway but I did stop at Home Depot today and bough... Fri, 5 Aug 2016 20:28:43 EST Starting the move http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6212292 Our house sold. And the farmland too. Got offers on both within the same week. We were actually offered more than the asking price which was pretty amazing. According to our realtor it is common if the buyer is wanting you to kick in part of the closing costs. Not really sure how it is helpful to them since the money we are kicking in is actually from them. Closing is in a couple of weeks on both properties.

But we have been looking for somewhere to live after all the paperwo... Thu, 4 Aug 2016 16:54:06 EST Catching Up http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6211698 Well older DD and I have been back for 2 weeks now. The trip itself was wonderful. I had always wanted to visit Seattle and Portland and now I have. Not sure if I would return to either town but that is okay. We did a day trip over to Bainbridge Island and after being teased about my desire to go there it turned out to be the best part of the trip. We walked most of the island and put in a lot of steps that day. I would love to go back one day and spend a couple of days just exploring ... Wed, 3 Aug 2016 16:57:04 EST Trip is Fast Approaching! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6196409 Back resting my foot again. It is very hot and humid lately so it is a good time to do it. DD and I leave next Tuesday for our big hiking trip out west. Gotta be ready and able to walk all day or she will be a mighty disappointed young woman.

I'm getting excited about the trip now. Printed out all our travel documents yesterday but was unable to do the boarding pass for our flight out. Can't do until the day before. Thu, 7 Jul 2016 10:37:24 EST Day 3 and Feeling Great http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6189021 Walking is still a little slow but once my foot gets warmed up I am a walking maniac! Today I did 2 large laps with DH since he had the day off. It was a bit warmer than it has been. After our walk he headed over to older DD's house to install a new screen door for her. She has had it for 3 years now waiting for him to get the time. I added it to his "honey-do" list last week and today it finally happened. She is pretty excited.

While he was doing that she and I went over to ... Fri, 24 Jun 2016 19:15:02 EST Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6188298 Walked again today. 3 full laps. It is cooler today, slightly overcast. Made walking much more comfortable. I'm still going pretty slowly. Takes at least a full lap for my foot to relax, still have pain but I march on. Usually by the time I have finished two laps it feels pretty good. No leg cramping today either and that is wonderful. I'm kinda having fun with those push-ups, who knew they could be a fun addition.

Getting my hair cut this afternoon. I've been growing it s... Thu, 23 Jun 2016 14:22:15 EST Foot Pain and the Road to Recovery http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6187731 Injured my right foot about a week before school let out. Thought I over-stretched it after a workout. But the pain remained for a long while. Especially painful when I wore my newest pair of walking shoes (same brand as always - Brooks). Then last Monday while I was walking, and over a mile from my car, the pain was just too much. I had to stop. Jumped a little, tried to shake it out. Rested on a bench too. Nope nothing worked. I spent a long, long time hobbling back to my car. I j... I've been having trouble with being motivated. I noticed it during the winter and it has clung on during the spring. Tue, 31 May 2016 16:52:24 EST Back walking again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6164370 After a 3 days "rest" I finally got to go for a walk in the park again today. I call it "rest" because it was a forced rest for me. Snow, hail, freezing temps in the middle of May just did me in. I packed away all the winter gear so I had nothing to brave the elements in and I was absolutely not going to unpack anything with the knowledge that I would have to wash and put it away again.

Then yesterday I decided that I needed to walk and was willing to wear 2 fleece jackets over ... You wouldn't think a 26-year old would still need mom to come over but she did. Gave herself food poisoning and she was one sick young woman. Turns out she slept on the bathroom floor which gave her a back ache. Throwing up so much also gave her a hunched over appearance since her tummy hurt too. And she was ghostly pale from being sick. Wed, 4 May 2016 15:41:13 EST Prunes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6151642 I love prunes and I eat them almost every day. Tue, 26 Apr 2016 19:27:09 EST Loss of an icon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6147390 Prince Rogers Nelson died today. My older DD texted me at school and dropped that bomb on me. I have been a huge fan of his since my younger days. His music is always played very loud in my car. My kids hate it but tolerate it too. This year we have been having a really difficult time with the 7th grade. Difficult as in the principal had to sit in a classroom two days in a row to make them behave. I also do the secretary position during her lunch so I'm all over that school and come in contac... Wed, 20 Apr 2016 16:51:59 EST Rough Walk Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6144290 78 degrees today. Went for a walk in the park around noon after cooking all morning for the rest of the week. It started out at 43 degrees when I woke up which is why I choose to cook first, walk later. I think I made a mistake.

By the time I was leaving for the park it was already 68. I had on a tee shirt and a pair of capris that I like to walk in because they have lots of pockets. Men's shoes are so ugly. He is very partial to loafers, which, of course, we had a great deal of difficulty locating today. I did an Amazon search before we went out so we would have a price point to shoot for. Since we didn't find what he wanted locally I think we are going to ... Sat, 9 Apr 2016 20:23:44 EST Barkley Marathon http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6138068 Watched a movie today about the Barkley Marathon which is run in Tennessee. Never heard of it before but the movie was fascinating. It was from a couple years ago when it was the first time they had had 3 people actually finish. That "race" is actually over 100 miles long and is run in 60 hours or less! Amazing.

I am working hard to catch up on my step count. 20,000 yesterday, 23,000 so far today. I'm feeling pretty good and am trying to ramp up my exercise routine again to ... Fri, 8 Apr 2016 19:40:25 EST My trip to the south http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6137129 Got back from my southern trek to Virginia. What a trip we had!

First off I need to mention that I am deathly afraid of heights. Almost panic attack afraid. That being said did I mention that I had to drive thru the mountains of West Virginia to even get to Virginia? Well I did and hated every second of it. I thought driving thru Charleston was going to kill me panic wise. I don't know if my daughter realized how awful it was for me until later when I kept insisting that I wa... Thu, 7 Apr 2016 12:43:51 EST April Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6132355 Today I will be doing my annual Spring garage cleaning. Some years it takes me the better part of spring break to get it done. This year, since older DD and I are heading to Virginia tomorrow (hurray!), I have to get it done in one day. No dilly-dallying. Right now I am just waiting for younger DD to leave with the car so I can get to it.

Older DD and I have decided to leave a day earlier than originally planned. We will take our time driving down. More relaxing that way. I ... Fri, 1 Apr 2016 09:00:54 EST Sick Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6129609 Last friday I had an awful sore throat. The school nurse looked at it and told me to go to my doctor by Monday. Well saturday I was down for the count! Sick, sick, sick. Don't really remember much about that day at all. Then yesterday I attempted to take a walk in the park but just couldn't get very far. I was wasted. But we had the mandatory Easter dinner at my younger sister's so I had to go.

Sister had her house open to the breezes. I had to wear my coat the whole time I... Mon, 28 Mar 2016 19:35:19 EST Purging Stuff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=6128166 Today DD and I cleaned out our freezer compartment in the fridge. We are both pretty tidy people and it was not so tidy in there which was bugging both of us. Her a lot more since she is the one who suggested we do it.

DH was gone to older DD house to patch the roof of her shed which had a tree limb fall thru it earlier in the week. So DD and I set to work on purging all the old frozen sausage patties that he has been saving up. Yes, you read that right - he has been saving sau... Sat, 26 Mar 2016 17:53:29 EST
