I started medication for my anxiety on Thursday, and it's had a major affect on my appetite. I'm not eating nearly as much and am skipping meals because I'm just not hungry. It'll be interesting to see what that does to the scale next Thursday on weigh-in day.

Life's still crazy. My husband was traveling last Monday-Wednesday, and I don't like being home alone. Fri, 24 Jan 2014 13:46:12 EST Rollercoaster http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5461414 The last 24 hours has been emotionally draining. Last night my grandma called me to tell me she's not going to be able to come to our wedding. It's a destination wedding and she doesn't think she can handle sitting on the plane for that long. I'm completely devastated. My mom is disappointed also, and is trying to talk my grandma into go, so we'll see. I really hope she changes her mind. It would absolutely break my heart if she wasn't there.

Then, at work today there was a big sha... Tue, 20 Aug 2013 21:16:04 EST Whew. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5458478 So, it's been quite some time since I've blogged. But I'm back now and recommitting to myself and my health. The best way for me to do that is to get active here again.

David graduated from school in May, and was offered a job an hour after his last exam! How awesome! Right after that, we started house hunting. After about 2 weeks of looking, we put an offer in and had it accepted! We closed on our first home July 1. We spent all of July painting, cleaning, and moving our stuff. I... It was a long day and I just wasn't feeling it, I'm proud of myself that I actually went to the gym. Food wise, I wasn't terrible today, and did get all of my freggies and water and didn't have any soda, so I call that a success!

Freg: 5 servings
Water: 10 glasses
Cardio: 15 minutes
Strenth: Crunches, leg up crunches, & bicycles
Wed, 20 Mar 2013 21:57:05 EST Spring Challenge: 3/19/2013 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5292909 I had another good day! I met all of my mini challenges for the day and managed to avoid the vending machine! I wasn't feeling great by the end of the day and was contemplating skipping my run tonight, but went to the gym anyway. After a rough start, I finished my 25 minute run! I'm so proud of myself!!!

Freg: 5 servings
Water: 10 glasses
Cardio: 35 minutes
Strenth: Crunches, side bends, & reverse crunches Tue, 19 Mar 2013 21:20:02 EST Spring Challenge: 3/18/2013 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5291696 Today went really well! I stuck my my eating plan for the day and got in 2 walks and my personal training session. We did measurements today, in the last month I've lost 4.6 pounds, 1.25" in my waist and .75" in my hips! Now to keep it going :)

Freg: 5 servings
Water: 10 glasses
Cardio: 53 minutes
Strenth: Crunches, bicycles, & reverse crunches Mon, 18 Mar 2013 22:04:14 EST Spring Challenge: 3/17/2013 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5290387 Well, today went much better than yesterday! I met all of my challenge goals, ate decently, and prepped my lunches for the week. Brown rice, chicken, corn, seasoning, and some green onion with sugar free/fat free pudding and jello for desserts! Yum! We also planned our meals for the week, now we just have to stick to it! I had a great run today and felt like I could have kept going. I'm now officially done with week 6 of c25k. I brought David lunch today at work, I had a 6-in oven roasted chi... Thu, 7 Mar 2013 16:53:59 EST Plateau Busting Challange http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5200883 I got an email today about a free trial of Spark Coach, so I decided to give it a try. I've been on a plateau for a couple of weeks now, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to try and break it! I'll be watching what I eat more closely, I'm going to focus on adding more freggies and dairy, and will be upping my exercise. I'm also going to get back to blogging and participating in my SparkTeams, that always seems to help me stay on track :) Thu, 10 Jan 2013 17:10:26 EST Lots of Woo Hoos! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5136882 So much has happened since I blogged last! David and I have officially set our wedding date! We're getting married 9/21/13 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, and I can't wait! We've booked the ceremony, our reception room, the caterer, and the photographer.

We joined the Y and have been going at least 5 times a week, and I started working with a personal trainer about 2 months ago. Thu, 15 Nov 2012 22:18:25 EST July 7, 2012 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4966189 I'm exhausted. A co-worker and I walked on our lunch break, and then after work I went to the gym and ran followed by a one hour spin class. I was really excited about my run because I ran 20 minutes straight! I haven't done that in months! Now, I'm just hanging out at home waiting for David to come home from work so we can go to bed.

David and I have been taking ballroom dance lessons for the last couple of months, and are really enjoying it. Wed, 11 Jul 2012 21:25:48 EST My Best Friend's Wedding :) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4964671 I had an absolute blast at my friend's wedding the end of last month! It was a crazy 72 hours of golf in 100+ degree heat, manis, hair appts, bachelorette party, ceremony, and party, but it was totally worth the time and money! My fiance and I danced so much that I was sore for days. I was even walking funny at work on Monday! We also got complimented on our dancing, which was nice, especially since we've been working so hard at our lessons.

I've been participating in a summer chal... Tue, 10 Jul 2012 22:34:19 EST Feeling better http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4942270 I'm feeling much better about everything than I was Friday night. I really appreciate everyone's comments/suggestions/support on my last blog post, it truly helped me. I found out today that I'm going to be able to swap my dress for the correct size, so that takes a huge weight off my shoulders.

In better news, this was the push I needed to start tracking calories again, and I have been within on everything since Friday, and that included 2 cookouts and lunch with some girlfriends!... Mon, 25 Jun 2012 21:02:30 EST Ugh... I feel like a failure. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4937491 I will be standing up in a good friend's wedding next Saturday. I ordered the dress late December and it was a bit snug, but I felt confident that I would drop a pound or two and that it would fit just fine come the wedding. I picked it up in February and it's been hanging in my closet ever since. Well, this morning I tried it on. I realized that the shop must have entered the size wrong and ordered a size too small, because there's no way I gained that many inches since December. I'm kicking... I started working as a project engineer at a plastics company in Milwaukee. It's pretty much my dream job, and I love it! Shortly after I started working, I moved in with my fiance, which has been an adjustment for us. We've spent the majority of the last 4 years doing the long distance thing, and now we see each other all the time. It's going well though. We have a roommate, and due to some issues with his gf, we're kind of hoping he'll move ... Thu, 21 Jun 2012 21:09:05 EST It's official... I'm engaged! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4653586 Three hours into the new year, my boyfriend of 8 1/2 years proposed! We had driven to Chicago for a new years party where my favorite band was playing. When we got back to town, he drove to Carthage College, which is where we started dating and had our first kiss. I had fallen asleep in the car and woke up to him opening my car door. I was confused and was trying to find my shoes which I had taken off for the long ride home. Before I knew it he was down on one knee asking if I would spend the... Too often we focus on ourselves, but the holidays provide ample opportunities to give back. Whether you donate money or your time, don't forget about those in need.

Volunteering is something I've been lacking on the last year or so. I've been so busy with school that I just haven't had the time. I'm currently looking for a job, and in the meantime my plan is to spend some time volunteering.

Thu, 22 Dec 2011 22:45:19 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 21 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4634264 Dec 21 - Don't skip meals. If you eat healthy foods at regular intervals throughout the day, you're much less likely to overeat at a party.

I haven't been the most consistent with this, especially breakfasts. I'm back home now, so when my mom and I went grocery shopping today, I got yogurts for breakfasts this week.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal) - 30 minute walk Wed, 21 Dec 2011 16:42:13 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 20 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4634260 Dec 20 - Join a holiday race. Most cities offer running and walking events on and around the holidays. They not only raise money for charity, but also keep you active on a day otherwise filled with overindulgence.

I participated in the Jingle Bell run in Madison a couple of weeks ago. It was a blast!

Exercise (Dec 2 goal) - 30 minutes of walking Wed, 21 Dec 2011 16:40:28 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 19 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4632596 Dec 19 - Tiny-size it. Cut calories by cutting portion sizes. Cut pies into 10 slices (not 6-8). Cut brownies and cakes into bite-sized pieces; and bake smaller cookies and mini muffins.

This year for Christmas, David and I are planning on making two small, individual desserts instead of one giant thing so we aren't tempted to over eat. We'll also be making smaller cookies this year.

Exercise (Dec 2) - 1 hour of water aerobics and about an hour of strength training Tue, 20 Dec 2011 10:11:30 EST GRADUATION! & 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 18 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4632594 Today I graduated from UW-Madison! My parents, brother, aunt, grandma, and boyfriend all came up for the occasion, it was great to see everyone! Before the ceremony, my department had a reception with some food, and I didn't overindulge. Afterwards we went to the Great Dane for dinner, then back to the hotel for some cake that my mom made. As a graduation gift, my parents got me a Kitchenaid stand mixer, so I can't wait to get home to try it out! Any suggestions for what I should make first? ... Tue, 20 Dec 2011 10:09:28 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 17 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4629142 Dec 17 - Just say no. Just because everyone is eating does not mean that you have to. Choosing smaller portions shouldn't offend a host, but sometimes it may be necessary to decline.

This will definitely be the hardest at my grandma's. There are so many delicious options, and so much of everything. My grandma pushes everyone to eat more, and I often have a hard time saying no. This year I know I need to be stronger.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal): 30 minute walk Sat, 17 Dec 2011 12:03:12 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 16 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4629140 Dec 16 - Stay positive. Everyone makes mistakes, so there will be times when even the most disciplined person overeats or skips a workout. Don't worry-just get back on track. Staying positive is half the battle.

I went out with my senior design team to celebrate Thursday night, and had a bit too much to drink (I was in control, just more calories than I wanted to consume). This isn't something I do very often, in fact, it's been MONTHS since I've had more than 1 drink in a night. I... When attending a party, cook a healthy, low-cal dish to share. This way, you'll have at least one healthy option when you're there.

David and I are planning on bringing something to share to both of our families celebrations. I'm thinking some type of quinoa salad.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal): About an hour of strength training. Sat, 17 Dec 2011 11:56:41 EST Winning in Winter Challenge Goals http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4625748 My goal for this challenge is to lose 7 pounds over the next 10 weeks. I will begin 10k training after graduation, and will continue my weight lifting routine. I will not be drinking soda, and will be aiming to add more fruits and veggies. I also plan to cook more and eat out less, which will hopefully be easier now that I'm moving back home and will have more convenient access to a fully stocked kitchen. My mom is also trying to get healthy and lose weight, so it'll be nice that we can suppo... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 17:18:23 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 14 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4625368 Dec 14 - Sweat more. Some research shows that adding just 10 more minutes of intense exercise to your usual workout can stave off holiday weight gain.

I have been working out for at least 30 minutes everyday this month, which is an increase from the last few month. I plan to keep that streak going, including a walk on Christmas day after dinner.

Wed, 14 Dec 2011 11:30:29 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 13 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4625365 Dec 13 - Shop when full. Shopping on an empty stomach can lead to overeating on the unhealthy food court fare. Also stash some emergency healthy snacks in your car or purse. Try nuts, whole grain crackers, and dried fruit.

I have been doing most of my shopping online. Once I move home next week, that will probably be changing. I will definitely be eating before I leave, and will aim to pack a banana for a snack.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal) - 50 minutes of walking Wed, 14 Dec 2011 11:28:55 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 12 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4623160 Dec 12 - Wash your hands. The holiday season coincides with cold and flu season. Keep germs at bay by washing your hands well after shopping, visiting and more. No one wants sickness to interfere with their fun!

I carry a small bottle of anti-bacterial hand gel with me all the time. I use it after using the computers at school and before I eat, in addition to washing my hands.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal) - I did 30 minutes of strength training today. Mon, 12 Dec 2011 19:24:48 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 11 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4623153 Dec 11 - Enjoy a pre-party snack. If you arrive famished, you're more likely to devour too much of the wrong things. Try a combination of fiber, protein and healthy fats for more filling power.

This weekend I had a lunch with a group of friends, followed by an end of semester party for a student org I'm in. I was really hungry when I got to lunch, and ate WAY too much. I felt awful last night. I'm going to a holiday party at work on Thursday, and I will definitely be employing this... Keep a brisk walking pace while you do your holiday shopping. Instead of wasting time looking for a closer parking spot, take a far away one to increase your activity (and save time).

I don't have a car, so I pretty much walk everywhere anyways. When I am back home where I have access to a car, my boyfriend usually parks farther away anyway. I have been focusing on making sure I get at least 30 minutes of exercise a day this month (thanks to this challenge), so ... Before you try every irresistible food that crosses your bath, think first. How will you feel after you eat them? Is the taste really worth it? Could you enjoy just a small amount instead?

For me, my weak point is, and always has been, soda. I don't drink coffee, so if I'm feeling sluggish, I reach for a soda for a caffeine boost. I had been doing well with avoiding it at all costs, but this last week was really rough. My senior design report was due ... Keep a running list of errands, groceries, and gifts, and make a plan to finish as many things in as few trips as possible. You'll save time, gas, and your own sanity.

I do most of my xmas shopping online so I can have it shipped to my house instead of having to pack it to bring home with me from school. I have a list that I've kept with who I need to buy for, and I've already finished half of my shopping. As far as grocery shopping, I have an app on my Ipod... Watch your food intake during the day if you're going to a party that night. Make healthy, filling choices beforehand, budgeting a few more calories to account for the party fare.

Days where I have parties to go to, I will be aiming to eat only fruit and veggies as my snacks. I will watch the portions of everything I eat.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal): 30 minutes of strength training Wed, 7 Dec 2011 11:29:21 EST 31 Days to a Healthier Holiday - Dec 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4615176 Dec 6 - Focus on people. Too often, food takes center stage of our holiday gatherings. Instead, focus on your loved ones, activities, and other traditions that make the holidays meaningful.

David and I always celebrate Christmas on the 23rd, so as not to conflict with other family gatherings. The first couple of years we were dating, this consisted of making dinner together, exchanging gifts, and watching a movie. It has slowly turned into an all day event where we still cook dinne... When treats are in the house, more of the dessert usually ends up in your belly than in your guests. So keep some low fat, low-calorie recipes and foods on hand.

I will be avoiding the dining halls on campus like the plague for the remainder of the semester. I have everything to make a couple of healthy Spark Recipes that I will be making to eat instead of nachos, pizza, and burgers from the cafeteria.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal): I spent ~... Your loved ones probably feel just as overwhelmed about gifts as you do. Instead of buying for everyone, draw names from a hat or give to a charity in someone's honor.

This year with David's sister, we've decided to exchange food gifts, which makes things easier. Other than that, I'm not really doing anything different as far as gifts go. Gift giving doesn't really overwhelm me though.

Exercise (Dec 2 goal): I went for a 50 minute run with my frie... The holidays only come once a year, but the parties, events, and gifts of food never seem to end! Decide which ones are really worth splurging for, and leave the other foods on the table.

I will be limiting my dessert intake, since that's my major week point! I will have two cookies at my grandma's, not 2 dozen, and I will also not be mindless eating the cookies that David and I make. At the Christmas party at work, I will only allow my self to try 2 small d... Don't mistake being "busy" for being "active." You still need to exercise at least 30 minutes each day. Break it up into a few smaller sessions throughout the day if you're pressed for time.

I will be running 3x per week and lifting 3x per week for the whole month. On the off days, I will be going for a walk to taking a group fitness class.

Yesterday I lifted weights for roughly and hour and today I already did a 50 minute walk. I will be blogging about how am accomplishing each task every day as a way to keep myself on track.

Dec 1: Take inventory. Identify all the situations (office parties, mall food courts, family gatherings) that make it difficult for you to eat healthy during the holiday season. Make a plan for staying on track in every situation.

Situations:
Office party, final... Thu, 1 Dec 2011 13:13:34 EST Ahhh! Only 1 month to go! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4585534 One month from today is my last day of classes as an undergrad, and I can't believe it! This semester is going by so fast, and has been so stressful, but I'm loving (almost) every minute of it! Yesterday I ordered my cap & gown, and it made it all feel so much more real.

I've been spending more time in the lab working on homework and my senior design project, but I have to say, I love my design group. We butt heads sometimes, but overall we work pretty well together. Life is stress... Tue, 15 Nov 2011 13:43:55 EST Busy Day in the Kitchen! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4479363 It's been a crazy busy weekend, but tons of fun! Yesterday I went to the Farmers' Market and the Badgers game (On Wisconsin!), followed by some grocery shopping.

Then today I made some pear sauce in the slow cooker (with pears from the Market!). I like to make my own yogurt, but I needed some starter and all Copps had yesterday were the giant tubs of plain yogurt. So, I decided to do some baking today. I made yogurt, an orange pomegranite topping for my yogurt, banana muffins made ... Sun, 11 Sep 2011 19:52:25 EST Planet Trek http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4399853 Yesterday afternoon I decided that even though I had gone for a run in the morning, I was going to go for a bike ride along the Planet Trek path. My original plan had been to ride to Monona Terrace where the Sun is and then ride out to Saturn. To go beyond that you need to by a trail pass and to get all the way to Pluto it's like 26 miles, and then I'd have to come back! The Sun to Saturn is roughly 5 miles, and I figured that was doable. Instead, I caught the bike path a few blocks from my a... Mon, 1 Aug 2011 12:57:07 EST New Fun Cooking Ingredients http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4387089 Over the weekend my boyfriend and I went to the Oilerie in Brookfield, WI. They carry all kinds of infused olive oils, balsamic vinegars, nut oils, spices, salts, sauces, and stuffed olives. They have large containers holding the vinegars and oils that you can taste test. You then let them know what you want and they fill them right there from the same container. It was so much fun! I tried a few oils, vinegars, coconut sugar, and some salts. We ended up buying a bottle of lemon infused olive... Tue, 26 Jul 2011 10:41:05 EST Homemade Yogurt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4372301 I mentioned about a 2 weeks ago that I had bought a yogurt maker. My first attempt was a huge failure. I tried making lemon raspberry yogurt, but the powdered milk didn't dissolve completely, leaving me with gritty, disgusting yogurt. Last Sunday I made my second attempt, this time keeping it simple and just making plain yogurt, no powdered milk. I tried it today, and it's amazing (minus the little milk skin issue)! I added some raspberry rhubarb jam I had gotten at the farmers market to swee... Tue, 19 Jul 2011 10:50:59 EST Boot Camp Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4359846 Yesterday was my first boot camp class, and man am I feeling it today! At lunch time I went to the gym for my pre-assessment. That included giving information on my current workout regime and some basic health information, stepping on a scale (which was 3 pounds less than what my scale at home said!), and having the trainer take some measurements. Then I did a 3 minute step test and a pushup test.

Later that afternoon I went back for the workout. There are only 3 people signed up ... Wed, 13 Jul 2011 09:53:50 EST Yogurt http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4348848 Last week I ordered a yogurt maker and the Yogurt Bible to go along with it, and they arrived on Wednesday! I LOVE yogurt, but I have been frustrated with trying to find yogurt with some fat in it in flavors I like that is affordable (I discovered I LOVE LOVE LOVE Chobani 2% Greek yogurt, but I can't afford to eat that everyday!). I figured with a yogurt maker I can make the flavors I want for cheaper.

I'm going to make my first batch this weekend, but I can't decided what kind to ... Fri, 8 Jul 2011 08:19:48 EST
