Well...............Life happened. Since the last time I blogged, mostly I was on track. The last few weeks, however have not been good. I’ve kept up my minimum cardio (streak is at 343 days) and I have been wearing my pedometer.

First I’ve had big technical problems. We had problems with our router and/or internet service at home preventing me from getting on. Work really cut into allowed internet usage. I think those are fixed now. ... Thu, 5 Dec 2013 10:43:05 EST Day 265 - Down 3.4 pounds I had a pretty good weekend. Higher on calories Friday and Saturday, but within range. My extra hard cardio program seems to be working. I was down 3.4 pounds last week (which I think was a little artificially good, but we’ll see). I was a bit sore on Friday and my weight loss pretty significant in the last two weeks, so I took it easy the weekend and only did walking.

One day last week for my cardio I tried to get back into the 5k training program. I picked back up where I ha... Mon, 23 Sep 2013 13:35:49 EST Day 260 Yesterday was another good day. Another pass on steps, cardio, water and calories. I need to do strength training tonight and adjust my schedule so I can be a bit more productive around the house in the evenings after I workout. I know I won’t be able to make the million steps of summer goal, but I’m OK with that. I’ll basically be one or two days short. I’ve gotten back into serious cardio on the stationary bike and that’s more important that walking at lot.

September Goal... Tue, 17 Sep 2013 08:57:27 EST Day 258 - Down 3.2 pounds I had a pretty good weekend. Lots of good cardio, good on steps, water and calories. The bad new is that's officially fall and summer is over. The good news is that the schedule change has allowed me to finally have worked in consistent strenuous cardio. It has paid off. I was down 3.2 pounds last week.

Since I was on track and was so busy this weekend, I skipped having a birthday cake. Usually I bake one for myself, but instead I made a crustless quiche for lunches this week... Mon, 16 Sep 2013 08:42:40 EST Day 256 Yesterday nutrition was good (low calories, 72 ounces of water) but I didn’t get any extra exercise done. My steps were low too. I went to bed early as I was exhausted. Good plan since both of the boys were up a bit last night.

After work and commuting and all that was going on, I was just exhausted last night. So I went to bed a little bit earlier and skipped my extra cardio. As I took a “rest” day on my cardio it made me reconsider my plan. The extra cardio is good, but if ... Fri, 13 Sep 2013 13:52:32 EST Day 255 - doctor So life has been super busy. I see it’s been since last Friday for my blogging. Sigh, I guess that wasn’t the best. But I have been tracking and picked up the intensity on the cardio big time. I’ve used the stationary bike the last three nights. Two nights of 45 minutes and last night was 60 minutes riding a total of 44 miles. I don’t know that I believe the calories burned that the SP site gives me for this biking, but I am being really focused and pushing myself a lot.

Wi... Thu, 12 Sep 2013 13:43:38 EST Day 248 Thursday was a good day. Ate within calories, drank over 100 oz of water, did over 12k steps, ate my freggies and did 45 minutes on the stationary bike plus a short walk.

When logging my cardio from yesterday, my SP tracker said “2013: 10,406.369999999999 Miles." I had to chuckle about that number - note that most of that number is AFTER the decimal place. I guess some walk mapped out in SP was weird or my Fitbit posted a crazy entry.

It did remind me that I need t... Fri, 6 Sep 2013 16:55:35 EST Day 247 Wednesday was an excellent day. I handled a very busy work schedule, had an evening meeting at church, deal with my family issues (my dad’s having surgery this week), and worked around the worsening traffic. After work I managed to have dinner with the family, help with bed time, complete two training courses for work, and get 45 minutes on the treadmill. Ite within calories, got in my freggies, and drank about 90 oz of water.

As I commute, I’m listening to an excellent book call... Thu, 5 Sep 2013 09:32:23 EST Day 246 Tuesday was a decent day. I got the ball rolling and feel like I’m back on track. I need to adjust to the fall traffic schedules and construction, but other than that I’m getting there.

September Goals:
1. 20 min extra cardio daily (above regular walking) - fail
2. What are you going to do to make them the best? I know, I know. There’s fall festivals, cider and donuts, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve all tucked in there. But we can do it!

It was a bit of an up and down month without making much progress on losing weight this month. In fact my ending weight is exactly the same as my starting weight. That said, it was a great month of getting o... Tue, 3 Sep 2013 10:48:00 EST Day 225 Yesterday was a pretty healthy day. My eating was in line. I met every category measured except that sodium and carbs were a little bit too high. Good news is that I got in my fiber, but the bad news is that I ended up with too many carbs. Still tweaking the eating.

My fitness yesterday was a walk a work and a bike ride with my older son (my favorite kind of exercise).

Knock on wood. My eating was in line but my sodium was high and my fiber low. All other items were within range. A few tweaks and I’m there. I need to have more of those days.

I did a short walk at work and 35 minutes on the treadmill. My younger son is still sick (going on 11 days now) and we're all short of sleep. Tue, 13 Aug 2013 09:30:13 EST Day 223 Yesterday was a good / fun day. Church, farmer’s market, out to eat, mowing the lawn, bike ride with my son, shopping for school supplies. My eating was great until I got snacking last night. I thought I had gone over my calories until I entered them in this morning. Hopefully my younger son will be feeling better soon (I was up with him being sick most of the night).

Last week my weight stayed the same. Some days were really good and some were really bad. I’m working on it. ... Mon, 12 Aug 2013 11:19:52 EST Day 220 - Getting Back on Track I’ve been losing and gaining the same few pounds over the last couple of months. I made a conscience decision to be more active with my family this summer. We have spent a lot time playing outside. But I haven’t made time in my schedule to track all my eating (not just calories) and to make sure I’m getting serious cardio. I’ve gotten a ton of steps, but they’re mostly from walking. I need to take advantage of the good fruit and veggies that are now hitting the market. My eating is a co... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 23:31:13 EST Day 197 - Yep. Still here. So where have I been. Life has been pretty busy. Evenings are spent outside playing with the boys and work is cracking down on internet use so my SP time has been limited. I can’t believe it’s been so long since I blogged. I have been on SP regularly to log exercise and meals, check mail, log for my challenges, etc. but I guess I haven’t blogged in a while.

As you can see from below, I’ve pretty much been at a stalemate with my weight. So, to jump start things a bit, late last... Tue, 16 Jul 2013 23:57:09 EST Day 174 - Down 1 pound again this week “We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do have.” ~Fredrick Koeing

This week had its highs and lows. I maintained my streaks for eating, cardio and and water. I had several very bad days of eating, a couple middle of the road days, and the rest were below calories range. By the end of the week I had pulled myself back together and was down a pound (two weeks - exactly ... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 16:42:36 EST Day 167 - Down 1 pound So I ended up down one pound last week. I ended the week strong. We went to the local festival with the kids and one of their friends. I ate 1/4 of a funnel cake. It was good to have because it didn't taste as good as I remember it being so I no longer think of it fondly.

The kids had a good time at the festival and even better time Saturday night. It was nice to see all of the neighborhood come together for the fireworks. We spent time at one neighbors party. Had kids over ... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 14:51:48 EST Day 160 - Litter Patrol I had a good weekend with lots of time outside working and enjoying the weather. I’m making decent progress on building my raise vegetable garden. I’ve been taking walks with my boys a lot lately. My younger son enjoys riding in the stroller and my older son loves walks. We pick up litter as we walk and collect it in the stroller basket to throw away when we get home (Litter Patrol as he calls it). At his request, we took a longer path yesterday. I actually walked it twice so I got in o... Mon, 10 Jun 2013 16:30:15 EST Day 160 - Down 0.2 pounds Last week was decent. I did a lot of walking outside, particularly with my boys so that was great. I burned too few calories with exercise and ate too much at special events (church, end of year party, kindergarten graducation, etc.) so I ended the week only down -0.2 pounds.

Weekly Weigh In 2013
Week 1: -4.2
Week 2: -3.0
Week 3: -1.2
Week 4: -0.8
Week 5: -2.8
Week 6: -0.4
Week 7: -2.2
Week 8: -2.4
Week 9: -0.2 <BR... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 21:46:57 EST Day - 157 Really? People do this for exercise? While looking for a summer camp for my son, I came across a class of paddleboard yoga. I spent half the day working from home and the other half was PTO.

Yesterday was kindergarten graduation for my oldesst son. I thought I would be more emotional, but I got through it just fine and could be happy rather than sentimental and sad. I was a cute ceremony. Wed, 5 Jun 2013 08:58:04 EST Day 153 - down 2.8 pounds I ended up having a good week last week due to my eating. I maintained my streaks, but my exercise was limited. Mon, 3 Jun 2013 09:31:30 EST Day 150 - Under the weather I have been feeling under the weather this week. I’ve got a really bad sore throat. I’ve been drinking water, eating well, and getting extra sleep.

Sunday and Monday were decent for exercise with long walks on each. Tuesday I did a small walk and had a three hour meeting at our church at night. Wednesday and Thursday were small walks and I went to bed very early.

I feel much better today. Fri, 31 May 2013 13:27:03 EST Week 21 - 0 pounds lost My week ended a bit weaker than it started, so I neither gained or los this week. Given my recent habit of following strong weeks (I lost four pounds last week) with really bad weeks, I guess I’m not too upset. Looking forward to a nice holiday with a little bit of traveling and some time at home as well.

I started building our garden Friday, laying out the first row of retaining wall bricks. I was super hungry, but tried to eat a bit of extra protein during the day. I drank my water, got 40 minutes in on the stationary bike, and stayed within calories. I broke my rule about buying food at work after I discovered that the rolls I had on hand for a sandwich had gone bad. Such is life. I bought a bagel and was still on a good path.

Since I have done more on the stationary bike than I have on the treadmill this month and I have had a bad str... Wed, 22 May 2013 10:10:17 EST Day 140 - Down four pounds and a life goal met Last week I was down four pounds. Given back to back weeks of going up 3 pounds, I’m not exactly sure what to make of this. I’ll take is and keep moving on. My plan of no junk food at work has served me well. So that’s the plan again for this week. The biggest source of junk food last week was birthday cake from my son’s birthday.

One of my big life goals was that I wanted to be there for my son to help him learn to ride his bike. Wed, 15 May 2013 09:41:14 EST Day 133 - Up again last week, but figuring some things out "If the problem isn't hunger, then the solution isn't going to be found in the refrigerator.”

So my final number last week was very bad again (up 3 pounds). I could complain about how much work I have to do or how much stress is around. Kids that are up at night. Unexpected expenses left and right. But that’s life. Using those as excuses isn’t going to help me make progress.

I’ve been journaling last week to figure out how / when / why I’m overeating and to do the ... Tue, 14 May 2013 10:10:58 EST Day 122 - Can't stay on track (up 3.2 pounds) Seems like I’ve been having great weeks or really bad weeks (with last week being the latter). I gained 3.2 pounds last week. I just can’t seem to get back on track. It is definitely sweets that are doing me in. I’ve tried going cold turkey and having no sweets and that didn’t work. I tried doing one sweet treat per day and that didn’t work. I’m just not sure how I’m going to get the one back under control. I was on a great roll to start the year off and now I’m off again and on again.... Mon, 6 May 2013 09:48:13 EST STA Week 11 - What is your fitness personality color?

My fitness personality is: Gold Efficients (ESTJ)

Gold Standard – Just the Facts
Golds (ESTJ, ESFJ) are traditional and conservative. They trust the suggestions of authority figures such as doctors, fitness instructors or personal trainers. They rely on proven methods to achieve the results they desire. “It’s especially important to Golds to work out in a friendly, positive environment,” Brue says. They get attached to certain class... Fri, 3 May 2013 09:41:36 EST April Recap and May Goals April was an OK month. Not super great, but not horrible either. The first week of the month was spring break and both kids were sick. The second week of the month has been focused on a major project at work. It is a really good, high profile project but one that is huge with a very quick deadline. I ended up losing about 5 pounds (I say about because I am focused on my weekly weigh ins rather than a monthly figure).

In April I got in a minimum exercise, wore my pedometer, and d... Thu, 2 May 2013 14:00:58 EST Day 118 - Attack of the Stormtrooper This weekend was good. I ate within calories, drank my water, and did my cardio. On Sunday I did the Week 4 Day 3 training session for the SP 5K rookie running program. When I went to log the exercise, I realized that I didn’t log Day 2. Either I’ll repeat Day 2 or I’ll do an extra day for Week 4 before I move on.

The weather Saturday was beautiful at our house. In addition to a soccer game and working around the house, I took my sons for a walk around the neighborhood. We we... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 17:22:37 EST
