SPARKDADEO's SparkPeople Blog SPARKDADEO's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 6 weeks compacted Wow a lot can happen in 6 weeks. I was in a cast and out of a cast. Went to Hawaii during the rainiest time they have had in years. The news on the island was that they had bonafide hail. I had a blast. Camped on the beach, rode a bike up to the site every day. Way cool.

This is what happens on a bike. Normal disappointments become challenges, opportunities and adventures. It rained every day :( It rained every day, every ride was that much better !!! :) 5 miles on 4% gr... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 00:15:04 EST Frexing Denver I had a pretty cool adventure last week going to a convention in Denver. I rode my bike to the Frex stop, loaded it up on the bus, no problem, and got off in Denver. $11 for the ride, about the same as the cost of gas.

Then instead of driving over a 100 miles every day to attend the conference, I got a room through Stayed in a nice apt in the historic district 3 miles from the convention center for $101 total.

I got my conference fee comped because I was... Sat, 18 Feb 2012 17:45:08 EST 2012 Pro Cycling Challenge Tour I plan on putting on a bicycle tour that will follow the week long Pro Cycling Tour through Colorado, Aug 20-26. We will ride portions of the race route. We will pick an interesting portion of the race course each day, 40-60 miles, with some climbing and descending, and one century option on at least one day.

Any profit we earn from this effort will be split between Spokes of Change and a local bicycle non-profit.

s-of-change
... Mon, 6 Feb 2012 13:05:10 EST Just noticed...I'm at my goal weight Even though I haven't been posting much here, I haven't forgotten about the whole sparkie thing.

Over the last few months I've gotten re-committed to riding my bike. We had such a great time hosting the Pro Cycling Challenge when it went by our house, it motivated me to get my bikes tuned up and I started riding again. Then I committed to commuting and entered a commuting challenge. To seal the commitment, I gave my car away, which pretty much forces me to get on the bike and ri... Tue, 31 Jan 2012 15:49:33 EST 10 minute goal I set a number of goals using the spark streak thing...most of them I haven't kept up as well as one would hope. The one I have been doing though is 10 minutes of exercise as soon as I get up followed by 3 surya namaskars (sun salutations). Roll out of bed, flip on the coffee, run the dogs out, and then I just run up and down the stairs for 8-10 minutes followed by the sun salutation stretches. Just doing that much at least gets me going a little in the morning and it beats staring at the ... Sat, 5 Feb 2011 10:57:47 EST Oops, going backwards... Didn't get my exercise in last week and really pigged out Friday. The scale is showing it today. A new week starting today!

Sun, 23 Jan 2011 12:12:49 EST How's that 2% thing going? If I have known about the 2% secret since my officer training days, and that's quite a long time ago, the compounded return of always putting out just a little more effort must have made me wildly successful since then right?

Well, knowing something and doing it are two different things. The friends I observed back then had laid a foundation of healthy and moderate living that allowed them to start each day ready to go and ready to last to the end.

I on the other hand... Mon, 17 Jan 2011 12:11:48 EST Colorado Springs Club Runs The Gazette ran an article in November that listed a bunch of club runs and pub runs.

Jack Quinn's started this fad with their Tuesday evening runs, and the idea (run a couple of miles to earn your pint) has been picked up by a number of other establishments.

Pub runs combine the things Colorado Springs is known for: staying fit and drinking beer.

At most places you do the run/walk/hike and then get a buck or two off a pint. A couple of places get fancy w... Sun, 16 Jan 2011 14:26:23 EST The 2% Secret I posted this over in the 'Success Secrets' page ...

A lot of motivational speakers will try to charge up their audience to give "110%" every day, with an image that through motivation you will levitate by your own energy above the crowd. The problem is that when you try to leap above every day, it isn't very long before you are pooped.

I think people who are consistently successful just do a little more each day, just 2% more, but they do it every day for a long time. E... Sat, 15 Jan 2011 14:10:16 EST
