I got my tv hooked up to Amazon Prime and Hulu Plus the other day. So...then I needed to decide what I wanted to watch. Drama, nah...I don't want to get hooked on an ongoing program right now. Comedy, nope...some are stupid or offensive or both...but, don't know what to watch. Documentary...ummm, ok...about what? Food - yeah.

Well this is where it started. I first watched Food Inc about the way corporate farms treat the animals at some of these facilities. I would not consider myse... Fri, 18 Jan 2013 15:33:16 EST 1st annual New Years Midnight Magic 5K The Midnight Magic 5K was the way that I decided to ring in the new year. I am not about partying anyway. My whole goal in life is to better myself in many different ways.

My daughters were all out of town at their dad's house, so I decided to to the 5K all by myself. I did not know a soul when I got there either. It is a little awkward when there isn't the comfort of knowing somebody, but I got through it.

We all rang in the New Year with noise makers at Midnight and t... Fri, 4 Jan 2013 12:54:53 EST Changed my goal...and that's OK I have lost 16 lbs and I am proud. My goal was to lose about 23 by New Years and that isn't likely going to happen.

The last couple weeks have been frustating. I want to move to a different place because I don't like the neighbors I have below us in the apt. They are too loud and it stresses me out. I looked at a different place that I really like, but I found out that I cannot get out of my lease agreement right now.

The weather now is not permitting me to get outside ... Thu, 20 Dec 2012 12:45:52 EST Out of the "Obese" catagory... and I didn't even know that I was in it. I just checked my BMI to see where I stood and expected to be in the overweight section but I was at the top of it. I then put in my start weight of 213 at 5'9", to see where I started and was surprised to see that I was considered "obese". I am proud of what I have done so far. So far I have lost 16 lbs in about 2 1/2 months.

I think the most frustrating part about the weight loss journey that knowing that I am going to have to deal with t... Thu, 13 Dec 2012 10:56:15 EST Life has gotten in the way... ... a slight gain in weight this week, but I haven't made the time to track my food or get out and exercise much the last few days. It has been crazy busy the last few days, but I will start back on track today! Wed, 14 Nov 2012 15:50:24 EST I am 41 today! Today is my birthday, November 6, 2012. I am 41.

I am at a place in my life that I thought that I wouldn't be 10 yrs ago. 10 yrs ago I was married, had 2 adorable daughters, 1 was an infant and the other was 2. I lived in a really nice home in a good neighborhood. I worked as a nanny for a wonderful family.

Now I am divorced and I moved back to my home town. I now have 3 adorable daughters (ages 12, 10, and 6). I am back to apartment living due to finacial changes. And a... Tue, 6 Nov 2012 16:18:40 EST I accidentally tried on some old pants... ...seriously...accidentally. I thought I was putting on my white capri pants as I pulled them out of the closet. But instead I they were another pair of white jeans that were WAY to tight a month ago.

I was so excited! I have lost about 7 pounds this month so I never thought that those pants would fit again, yet. 244

This is proof that the scale is not the only measurement that counts! Mon, 5 Nov 2012 11:25:34 EST Nov 1st - Whew... made it through Halloween Remember when holidays used to be fun and exciting? Now that I am a mom holidays = stress. Ahead of Halloween for over a month, by kids have been planning what they wanted to be. We had that figured out quickly, but then there was the planning of how to achieve the costume that they wanted within the very tight budget that I have.

My 6 yr old was a witch. She used a costume that one of my older girls used in years past, but then she needed a hat, broom, and a pot. Hat $1, broom on ... Thu, 1 Nov 2012 15:50:06 EST Family gift request: 1 year Rec Center Pass Every year my mom gives us a "big" gift for Christmas and this year we asked her for passes to the community recreation center. They have workout equipment and an indoor pool.

There will definately be no excuses not to work out when we get these passes. My girls are getting old enough where they can swim on their own while I work out on the machines. There is one workout room that has in window facing the pool, so I could still keep on eye on them while I work out.

I t... Mon, 29 Oct 2012 17:48:09 EST Duh...Make my own frozen dinners It really seems so obvious, but I never started doing it until recently. I was sick of throwing out leftovers in my fridge. It was so easy to forget about some food before it got bad. Lately I have been putting the food in freezer bags divided by portion, labeling it and putting it in the freezer for when I go home for lunch. It has worked so well to just go home and thaw that 1 portion in the microwave.

I have done this with taco meat, pancakes, casseroles and baked chicken.
... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 14:21:10 EST Waste vs Waist One my big struggles with food is not wanting it to go to waste. If my kids leave something on their plate, I feel like I have to eat it. Or there is just one more rice crispy bar in the pan, so I better eat it, so I don't have to throw it away. Yesterday I drank the rest of my daughter's sugary Dr Pepper, because I didn't want to dump it out. This is an ongoing struggle for me, especially since money is tight, I have this irrational fear of doing without food. It is silly, really. I will no... Mon, 15 Oct 2012 12:20:40 EST "Today is a new day" - Chicken Little

I'm tired of being tired! And I know my weight has a lot to do with it. I am the heaviest that I have been since my 2nd child was born 10 yrs ago. I need to make the change today for my kids, but also for ME! For so long keeping healthy was a priority, but life changes happen and it is easy to fall into the rut of eating comfort food and using the excuse of being to busy to exercise.

Divorce, financial p... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 17:35:54 EST UH OH...almost 40 I just realized a couple days ago that my 40th birthday is only 4 months away. What better time to set a new goal and the focus on that goal paid off this week. I have decided that I want to be a healthy weight on my 40th birthday. I will weigh no more than 163 lbs on Nov 6, 2011. Last week I weighed183, today I weigh 179. I feel in my heart that I will finally achieve this weight again. Thu, 7 Jul 2011 11:35:12 EST Frozen Dinner Log I rarely buy frozen dinners, because they are a little pricey and it never fails, I almost always accidentally buy ones again that I did not care for. Better than I did on my own for sure. I think I need that outside accountability and also having to pay every week is great incentive for trying to get back to goal weight, so I can still go, but for free.

I am continuing with ... Thu, 7 May 2009 11:17:06 EST My SP Survey Comments: I took the SP survey and it asked how SP has affected my life and I thought that I would save my response for myself here on my blog:

"Sparkpeople is my very favorite website. It is the way that I keep myself focused. I just started going about 3 months ago, 2 times a week and I look forward to going all the time.

I love it because:

- It is fun to "play" in the water
- You don't get sweaty
- The instructor is so much fun
- It is my "me" time
- It is easy on my joints - most importantly my bad knee
- It is right before bed, so it makes me tired
- It de-stresses me after a long day

Too bad I have to wait 4 days until my next class! ... Fri, 23 Jan 2009 14:38:16 EST Job Worries My hubby works for Ford Credit - for anyone who has been following the news at all the last couple days, it probably goes without saying that this is a very troubling and scary time for our family right now.

It is time to accept that we may have to plan for the worst and keep praying and have faith that it will work out somehow. Wed, 19 Nov 2008 23:33:31 EST In a mode today... I have been doing pretty well holding back in my diet this weekend and tonight I got in a good workout. Hopefully I can keep it up this week.

My knee is getting a little sore again. Maybe because I haven't kept up the strengthing exercises like I should or maybe the cortizone shot is wearing off. Either way I want to get some of the pressure off due to the extra pounds I'm carrying around.

I have done this before and only because I set my mind to it - I CAN DO IT AGAIN!... Sun, 9 Nov 2008 23:41:33 EST Water Aerobics I tried water aerobics class for the first time this Thurs and it was a lot of fun. I had only taken one w.a. class in my life and it was different from this one. I am going to go twice a week on Tue and Thurs and I already have one to make up. It is just nice to change things up a little bit. My legs were a little sore but not too bad. Lookin' forward to Tues! Sun, 26 Oct 2008 23:16:39 EST Sometimes life gets in the way... I had good intentions for this week. I was going to ride my stationary bike every night. But instead I have had a major eye infection to deal with instead.

I had lasic eye surgery about 5 months ago with a few complications, but I had been doing well. But recently my vision was getting a little worse than it was, and I found out that some of the cells on my eye hasn't healed completely. The dr thought that it will heal on it's own with help from a plug in my tear duct to increase ... Sun, 19 Oct 2008 15:58:22 EST Economic Crisis These scary times are stressing me out. The volatility of the stock market worries me and sends me to the fridge, looking for comfort food. We had plans that I might be able to cut back on my daycare a little and be able to focus a little more on the family and the house in a year or two. Now it looks like it all has to change because our little nest egg is even smaller thanks to the stock market. I know we all are in the same boat, and everyone has their own stress. But it is all disappointi... Sun, 12 Oct 2008 16:10:10 EST Starting the exercise habit again For a while I was just addicted to exercise. I couldn't wait for that hour or more alone in the evening when I could work out, whether it was on my stationary bike, treadmill or an evening stroll outside. I am trying to get in the groove again. I walked around the lake (4.3 miles) for 2 days in a row now and hope to find some other exercise to do tomorrow. I feel so much better when I do. Even though I feel tired and try to find excuses not to. I think that I should do other house work or sle... Wed, 1 Oct 2008 22:27:29 EST Water Aerobics I just signed up for a water aerobics class that starts in a few weeks (Oct 21). I am looking forward to this, because it is something new to me. It was very affordable, so I decided to try it. My good friend is supposed to do it with me and I hope that she doesn't back out, but I will go no matter what she does. I am not to good about doing upper body exercises on my own, so I'm sure this will help exercise some new muscles. It will be nice just to get out of the house a couple nights a week... Thu, 25 Sep 2008 12:09:17 EST Food Sensitivities This blog will probably be of no interest to anyone else but I have decided to document my own food sensitivities for my own knowledge. I have some food allergies that I have learned are similar to a latex allergy. So now I ask for latex free medical gloves and equipment to me used on me based on the foods that I have reactions to. Here are the foods that make my tongue itch and a little sore sometimes:

bananas
potatoes
kidney beans
kiwi
tomatoes
walnuts, p... Fri, 19 Sep 2008 14:40:59 EST Diet tricks that have worked for me OK, I have done this before and so now I need to assess what I need to do again that worked for me in the past.

FOOD

1. low fat popcorn - I am not a huge fan of popcorn so there is no threat for me to eat a whole bag, but sometimes I pop a bag so I have something to munch on while I'm in the kitchen and I would be less likely to get into the bad stuff.

2. sugar free hot chocolate - Swiss Miss - Yummy! and only 60 calories.I buy it in bulk at Sam's Club. It he... Thu, 4 Sep 2008 14:42:26 EST Knees 3 weeks later Well, I have been doing my exercises pretty much every day to try to strengthen my muscles around my knees. It is difficult to tell if it is helping yet, but my physical therapist said that I have very loose ligaments and it will be very important to exercise my leg muscles like this the rest of my life. My mom has bad knees where she probably should have a knee replacement and I remember that my dad had problems with his knees off and on too. I guess I am destined to deal with this based on... Thu, 4 Sep 2008 10:44:43 EST Time to turn things around I saw the dr yesterday about by sore knee and he thought that it is a tendon that is causing the problem. It's a problem that I will probably have to deal with forever. I start physical therapy next week (3 times a week for 4 weeks) to strenghthen the muscles around my knee, they gave me a sleeve and a band to wear to give my knee cap more support, and a cortisone shot under my knee cap (owweee). I am opting for the drugs next time. Hopefully this all helps to get me moving for again.
... Fri, 15 Aug 2008 15:42:48 EST My 1 year spark anniversary! OK, it has been 1 year since I started SparkPeople. I can't claim that I have been a success and it is a little frustrating. It has been a year of ups and downs - emotionally and with my weight. But at least I haven't gained from where I started. That is an accomplishment in itself.

Here is the part where I complain:
I have just been tired lately with no ambition to work out. I was really good about exercising a few months ago. I worked out almost every day. Now I can't find t... Tue, 29 Jul 2008 17:05:29 EST Family Adventure Ahead! We bought a camper trailer! A few weeks ago we went to stay in a cabin that was renovated from an old train caboose at Two Rivers State Park not really too far from where we live here in Omaha. It was so nice getting away, where it is quiet and was without the distractions of TV and computers. My kids did not even miss them. So we decided that we want to continue this new found tradition so we bought the camper. Our family really needs this bonding time.

I guess that we have reali... Tue, 22 Jul 2008 23:01:46 EST No energy I have really been bad about working out this week. I took a couple walks to the park at the beginning of the week but that is about it.

It started with a cold and now I am just tired and don't want to do anything. We have had a lot of thunderstorms and tornado warnings lately that have either woken us up or kept us up. I stayed up late the night that the Boys Scout camp tornado hit, only about an hour north of here. We were in a tornado warning at the same time here in Omaha. Wha... Fri, 13 Jun 2008 10:34:41 EST Memorial Day Run I'm a walker, but yes I did run a little bit at the Boys Town Memorial Day 5 mile Run. It was a little peer pressure that got me moving a little faster. I felt a little silly just walking when eveyone was running past me. I walked most of it though and finished a lot faster than I thought I was going to. There were some other walkers too. I am just proud of myself for trying it out and it is fun to exerience new things. Every once in a while I would think "I think I can run to that tree - as... Tue, 27 May 2008 17:33:08 EST Constantly changing moods calls for constantly changing motivation I feel like I have to constantly change my focus, to try to find my motivation. Some days I just want to look better. Some days I want to feel better. Some days I am looking forward to the 1/2 marathon and realized that I have a lot of work to do to get conditioned for this in Sept. Some days I am just satisfied that I did not gain anything.

My moods fluctuate so much, so today I am looking at the long term and need to focus on my walking miles. I found a walking plan to prepare ... Tue, 20 May 2008 11:57:59 EST Swim Suit Challenge - Day 9 OK - got caught up on the videos last night and got 22 minutes of extra cardio on my stationary bike. I had gotten behind when I had my eye surgery, but my eyes are doing better so I plan to keep on track with this challenge now. Up one pound this week, but not surprised. We ate out a lot and had extra treats when my mom was here. Back on track today. Only 2 weeks until the pool opens - EEK! Mon, 12 May 2008 10:42:57 EST I can see clearly now... ...almost. I had lasik surgery on my eyes on Thurs. I little terrifying but I made it through. There were some slight complications because my corneas had a tendency to kind of fall apart when they were cut. It is not the dr's fault, it is just the way my eyes are made, so now I have to wear some contacts for a few days until my eyes heal properly. I have better vision now, but it will take a while until the cloudiness and halos around light clear up. I think that I will be glad I had it done... Sun, 11 May 2008 17:53:05 EST Swim Suit Challenge - Day 3 Burger King for breakfast - not a good start, but I have a better attitude today. I actually feel rested this morning because I went to bed earlier than I typically do. I didn't do the swim suit workout, but I plan on doing both yesterday's and today's videos today. I had done more cardio than was suggested on Sunday. I'll get my cardio on my stationary bike in tonight.

My mom comes to visit tomorrow so I have to get the house picked up better. I am looking forward to seeing her. ... Tue, 6 May 2008 11:14:54 EST Swim Suit Challenge - Day 2 It is only 10:20 am and I have already eaten way too much for this early in the day. ( Eat only when I'm hungry, eat only when I'm hungry, eat only when I'm hungry) I hate that I am an emotional eater. I am stressed because I sent my 6 yr old to school today after spending the whole week home with her last week because she has mono. I'm second guessing myself -Was it the right decision to send her? Should she go on the class field trip to the zoo on Wed? If she doesn't go, she will be so di... Mon, 5 May 2008 11:30:32 EST Swim Suit Challenge - Day 1 Well I got up my before pic for the Swim Suit challenge. It is really something I did not want to do. I don't like pictures of myself anyway and then to have to face what I really look like. Yuk! I have been bigger, but I have been smaller too and I want to feel the way I did then - more energy, more confident, me again. I decided to put the picture on my Spark Page instead of hiding it in the gallery. I need to improve. I must work harder at this. Maybe this is the challenge I need and face... Sun, 4 May 2008 16:36:45 EST 36 days until the pool opens! I WILL LOSE 5 LBS BY MAY 23 - If I blog it, I have to do it, right?

5 lbs would take me to 173, I can do it!

This is my new short term goal. We are going to buy a pool membership this summer for the first time. This gives me incentive to take off a few pounds so I feel more comfortable in my swim suit. (I want a little less thigh jiggle) I did buy a new suit this year, but I want to look and feel a little better in it. Maybe I can get a little exercise in the pool too. I... Wed, 16 Apr 2008 10:57:41 EST TLC series - Week 2 OK, it tried to follow the 4 rules I learned in first week when I could, but it is hard to eat without distractions when I have a daycare and 3 kids to feed. I am lucky that I get time to eat at all, so sitting and taking slow bites is difficult. I did try to eat more foods that I truly enjoy, but try to stop when I'm full. No weight change yet, but I am sure that this will work if I become more conscious of how full I am and to s-l-o-w down.

This week he talked about emotional eat... Tue, 25 Mar 2008 13:38:45 EST TLC series I watched the first episode of "I Can Make You Thin" with Paul McKenna last night and I have been trying to incorporate his 4 rules while eating today.

1. Eat when hungry - if I let myself get too hungry, I am more likely to binge later and also metablolism slows down when the body gets too hungry.

2. Eat what you love - eat only food that I enjoy, even if it isn't considered a really healthy choice. I just have to know when to stop. If I eat foods that I don't care for,... Oh there is a hint of spring here and there. I heard it is going to be in the 50s next week - yeah!!! I want to get outside and move. I get tired of the treadmill and stationary bike every day and it is too cold now to take my girls out for a walk or to play at the park.

So since the seasons are changing soon, so are my fitness goals. I have climbed the First National Bank tower two separate times. I have walked a few charity walks ( the longest being 6 miles) Now I need another am... Wed, 5 Mar 2008 21:40:09 EST Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels... or something like that. I have heard this quote before and can totally relate to it. I had just lost site of it I guess. I read it on someone's SparkPage yesterday and it has stuck in my head. I know I can do this again. I have to for my health! Thu, 21 Feb 2008 13:28:37 EST Back to W8Watcher Points It has worked in the past, and I seem to do well with the W8W points system. It is easier to think about each invididual food as 1 point or 10 points instead of calories. It is much easier to keep track. I am down a little. My hubby and I went out for dinner for his bday and Vday last night and I know that I over ate, but I am starting again today! We passed on the appetizers and desert. I didn't have any alcoholic drinks either. I am determined now. I need to lose weight so that my GERD will... Wed, 13 Feb 2008 13:31:12 EST Trek up the Tower A little less than 5 weeks until the 2nd annual Trek up the Towers here in Omaha. It is a stair climb up 40 stories (over 800 stairs) in the First National Bank Building. I am no athlete, but I decided to do this challenge last year. It just sounded like a fun, new adventure that was just for me. And I decided to do it again this year at the end of February. This really pushes me to get moving, so I will be conditioned for this stair climb. It is tough, but after I achieved it last year, I de... Mon, 21 Jan 2008 14:27:22 EST My Thanksgiving in the ER I have had heartburn for years, but never really thought of it as a serious condition. I would take some Zantac and Tums and thought that I had the family curse. My grandma and my dad always had to take antacids as long as I knew them.

I just realized how important it is to get treated. Just this Thanksgiving I took just one bite of mashed potatoes at our holiday dinner and it stopped up my esophagus where I couldn't swallow at all. No water, not saliva, nothing! Scary! I am feeling tired and burnt out already.

My goal right now is to continue using my stationary bike and get more miles posted on my virtual trek across the US. (At least 10 minutes a day.
