SMOULINIER's SparkPeople Blog SMOULINIER's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Down a size! Yesterday I decided to put on a nightgown that I hadn't worn in a number or years-I was chilly and the flannel nightgown looked so inviting. I checked the size tag and saw that it was a size smaller than I usually wear. I held it up and looked at it (especially the midsection) and decided to try it. My mother gave me this nightgown and I loved it but it was just too small to be comfortable so I didn't wear it very much. The moment of truth-I decided to try it on and-IT FIT! I was so tickled ... Mon, 21 Jan 2013 13:11:01 EST Sodium in food Last night my daughter and I went for dinner to Red Lobster and had what I thought was a healthy meal. I even said to my daughter "I know I'm going to go over on my calories with this, but I don't care." Those words will haunt me for a long time. Yes my calorie count was over my limit for the day but imagine my horror when I saw the amount of sodium I had ingested during the course of the day-9000 mg.! I swear I am not one of those people who automatically salts everything-in fact I can't re... Sun, 20 May 2012 11:59:37 EST Lab Work Got my lab work back today. Everything's good except my triglycerides are a little elevated. My doctor suggested I try 2 Omega-3 capsules per day (I'm already taking one at his suggestion) and to decrease my simple sugars (I didn't think I was using any, but whatever). Am still having trouble with the amount of sodium I'm taking in daily-thank heavens I'm not one of those who reaches for the salt shaker automatically. A1C holding steady at 6.6 224 Thu, 12 Apr 2012 01:35:13 EST YIPPEE! Today I went to my regular doctor appointment and guess what-he told me I lost 10 pounds since my last visit 3 months ago! He shook my hand and said he was proud of me. He said he could see the difference in my appearance (though I don't see how!). He also drew some fasting lab work and will send me a copy of the report with his comments on them in the mail. I don't anticipate any problems there. I will be curious to see what my A1C is. He also told me I could eliminate one of one blood pres... Tue, 3 Apr 2012 15:36:43 EST Weigh-In Day Tomorrow Tomorrow will be the first time I have seen my doctor since I started on my "journey". I must admit I am a little nervous about the scale. I haven't fully utilized the program as I should have (no exercise or workout due to my knee problems) so I guess I will just have to "wait and see". I have made a few slips along the way and I know that I need to change my attitude toward food especially in terms of "treats". I have and have had for such a long time a terrible sweet tooth. I should know b... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 12:08:29 EST My FIRST Recipe! Today I learned how to use the nutrition calculator and I submitted a recipe for Crockpot Stuffed Peppers. I'm not really looking for high ratings; I was more interested in the nutritional information to make my food tracker more accurate. Now that I have gotten the hang of it, I will submit recipes that I make homemade from time to time. Many of these recipes are like my mother used to make and perhaps her mother before her. I haven't said anything to my daughter about this-I wonder if she'... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 13:35:30 EST Salt Alternatives I was just reading an article about the amount of salt we all seem to be getting in our diets, even those of us who are not avid salt users. When running my nutrition report at the end of the day, I am amazed at the level of sodium I consume on a daily basis. I have become acutely aware of watching sodium content on labels when shopping. Healthy request soups are good and contain about half the sodium of regular condensed soup. Of course the best thing you can do is make your own soup but thi... Sun, 4 Mar 2012 09:27:11 EST
