SLIMKATIE's SparkPeople Blog SLIMKATIE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Runs for Cookies Hi everyone! Yes, I'm still around :) Lately, I've gotten a lot of messages and comments asking where I've been and why I'm not blogging... and they are surprised to find out that I actually DO blog just about every day. I apologize if you've already seen this, but I figured I'd post a link here in case you're one of the super nice people that asks about me.

My blog can be found at
.

It's nothing super interesting--just the day to... Sat, 11 Jun 2011 18:48:31 EST 500 Festival Mini-Marathon 2011 I just got home from my fourth annual trip to Indianapolis for the half-marathon. I've walked it the past three years, and this year was my first year RUNNING it. It was fantastic!! Hopefully I can remember all the details (there was a lot of drinking, haha).

Friday-
Eli had a Mother's Day tea party at school, so I wanted to make sure I could go to that before we left for Indy. I went to the tea party and Eli was adorable. He was so excited and proud of the things he'd made f... Sun, 8 May 2011 19:48:29 EST Journey of 125 pounds I've been wanting to make a video like this since before I even lost the weight! I hope to inspire at least one person with this :)

ETA: I've been getting swamped with e-mails and Spark messages from people asking questions about my weight loss. I'm happy to answer new questions, but please check out the FAQ's on my blog before asking. Thanks! Mon, 31 Jan 2011 20:10:46 EST Doing well :) I'm so sorry it's been so long since I've written a blog on here. I write in my Open Diary a few times a week, but I usually save my blogs on Spark for more meaningful entries. So for those of you that have been asking about me, I'm doing pretty well (thanks for asking!)

Just before Christmas, I reached a low weight of 128--just 2 pounds from my goal! I should have known it wasn't going to last, because my mouth was still wired shut from my broken jaw. On Jan 4th, I got all the wi... Sun, 30 Jan 2011 10:35:08 EST One Month I can't believe it's been a month since I passed out, fell, and severely broke my jaw. Thank you all so much for the well-wishes and concern! I'm recovering pretty well, and the doctor said that my jaw is healing very well.

I still don't have any answers as to WHY I passed out. I saw a neurologist on Friday and had an EEG. The neuro exam was completely normal, and I should get my EEG results in a couple of days. The neurologist said that he highly doubts it was a seizure, and he's... Sun, 12 Dec 2010 09:20:25 EST Accident, ER, Surgery, etc. I'm going to try and remember everything with details, so I apologize for a long entry. I'm in an insane amount of pain right now and I keep making spelling errors that I probably won't correct soon. This whole mess started on Friday. (Oh, and by the way.... this was my first trip to the ER, my first broken bone, my first stitches, my first surgery, and my first ambulance ride).

FRIDAY:
I ate like crap on Friday. I even bought a big container of chocolate peanut butter ice c... Fri, 19 Nov 2010 08:27:58 EST My First 5k Race... FINALLY! In December 2009, I wrote a list of 30 goals to accomplish by the time I turn 30 years old (my 30x30 list, which I refer to often). Feeling ambitious, I included "Enter a 5k race and RUN it" as one of the goals on my list. At that point, I had never run 3 miles in my entire life! I was probably about 220 pounds, and I literally could not even run 1/10th of a mile. I was in the "honeymoon phase" of weight loss, and felt very ambitious as I included it on the list, but I really did not believe... Sun, 17 Oct 2010 13:11:02 EST Why THIS time is different I think for many (maybe most) of us here on Sparkpeople, this is not our first weight loss attempt. I know that I have tried to lose weight dozens, maybe even hundreds, of times. A few times, I was even successful--losing as much as 60 pounds. If you look at my weight over the last 20 years, it has steadily increased.

When I started losing weight on August 19, 2009, I thought it was just any other attempt. I really believed that I wouldn't make it through the day, let alone a week... Sat, 25 Sep 2010 09:23:35 EST Ragnar Relay 2010 (picture heavy!) This is going to be a long entry, so let me start by apologizing for that! I'm really excited about finishing this race, so I want to remember all the details.

First, let me explain what the Ragnar Relay is. It's a 200-ish mile relay race, done by teams of 12. In my case, the course went from Winona, MN to Minneapolis, MN (cutting through Wisconsin in the process). The teams each have 12 people. The race is divided into 36 "legs"--from 3.1 miles up to 8.8 miles each. Each runner... Mon, 23 Aug 2010 19:15:50 EST One Year Later: A Then & Now Comparison It's been an entire year since I started this weight loss madness! :) I can't BELIEVE how much I've changed in a year's time. Not just how I look, but my entire lifestyle is completely different. Here are some stats from then and now...

CLOTHES

Jeans
Then: Size 24W
Now: Size 6

Shirts
Then: Size 2X-3X
Now: Size Small or Medium

Bra
Then: Size 44C
Now: Size 36C

Undies
Then: Size 10
Now: Size 5... Wed, 18 Aug 2010 18:37:46 EST Dangle me a carrot... ...and I will run!

Quite literally, actually. I've been craving carrot cake for a couple of months now. Yesterday, I bought a big piece of carrot cake with cream cheese frosting from a deli (NOT low-fat or sugar free or anything), and I put it in the fridge at home. I told myself that I couldn't eat it until I completed an 8-mile run! :)

I've been doing a 15k training schedule, just for the "fun" of it. It was a 10-week schedule, and I got up to week 9, which ended with... Thu, 5 Aug 2010 10:05:56 EST Losing Weight on Vacation Throughout my 11 months of weight loss, I've gone on 4 trips--and each trip, I went home a couple of pounds lighter than when I left. Staying on track while on vacation can be very difficult, especially if you're not prepared. But if you plan everything in advance, you never have to stray off of your weight loss plan.

I don't treat vacation as a time to "cheat" or "relax my eating" or a "free-for-all". I count calories (or WW points) just the same as I do at home. At home, I don't... Sat, 24 Jul 2010 12:38:23 EST "Saggy baggy skin" I've been getting probably 1-2 private messages every day asking me if I have issues with excess skin now that I've lost over 100 pounds. Some of these messages are very tactful, and I'm more than happy to answer them. However, a few of them have been offensive and leave me feeling a little insulted, so I thought I would address it in a public blog. The most recent e-mail asked me, "Do you have all kinds of extra saggy baggy skin now? That's my biggest fear about losing weight!" and another... Wed, 14 Jul 2010 14:25:57 EST 100 Pounds Lost--Before & Current PICTURES I thought it would be fun to take some cliche pictures of me with my old size 24W jeans... I'm still amazed that those jeans used to FIT me!

This one is with my jeans qui... Thu, 8 Jul 2010 20:48:21 EST The Warrior Dash I really don't want to write much about this, because I honestly hated every second of it. Everyone in my group had SO MUCH FUN, and I feel like a total Debbie Downer for even saying that I hated it, but it's the truth. I felt HORRIBLE about myself. After losing almost 100 pounds, I think I thought that I could do pretty much anything. However, that was not the case.

The race was 3.51 miles with 12 obstacles (to name a few: a cargo net climb, crawling through tunnels, running thr... Fri, 25 Jun 2010 13:49:36 EST 97 Note-ables about losing 97 pounds As I close in on 100 pounds lost, I've been thinking about how far I've come in just 10 months... losing 97 pounds makes SUCH a huge difference in my life! Here are some of the note-ables:

1. I used to have to hold my breath to bend over and tie my shoes. I even avoided shoes that had to be tied, for this reason. Now, I don't even think twice about bending over, and it certainly doesn't make me lose my breath.

2. I used to sit down very slowly into a chair, for... Wed, 16 Jun 2010 09:02:57 EST Tornadoes are NOT good for the diet! Well, Michigan had some serious weather on Saturday night... and we had a few tornadoes touch down in my neighborhood and some surrounding neighborhoods. The damage was mostly to trees--and thankfully, that's all it was as far as my house goes! My family is safe and my house is fine. There were trees strewn all over the neighborhood, power lines down, etc. Our electricity just now came back on, so we were without power for almost 3 days.

We're a one-car family right now, and my hu... Tue, 8 Jun 2010 14:42:15 EST Comparison Pictures-- Indy 500 Festival This was my third year in a row doing the Mini Marathon (13.1 miles) at the Indy 500 Festival. It was such a FANTASTIC experience all around, and I'm inspired to write a blog entry about it. In 2008, I was 207 pounds. I didn't train for the race AT ALL, and was completely miserable the entire time. I had huge blisters on my feet, and wound up having to wear a walking cast for 3 weeks after the race due to bad tendonitis. I vowed to lose weight and get in shape for the next year's race.
...
