SKYEFYR's SparkPeople Blog SKYEFYR's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Random Updates So I have a free moment at work and decided to check in.

I almost went into shock to realize it's been a month since the last post. Whoa! Where did the time go?

Not much to report over here. Went off the GF diet for turkey day and was rewarded with a couple of nasty migraines. If I needed more proof to stay away from it, I've got it.

I need to start making time for me and my needs. The company has a weight loss contest starting in January, so I'm going ... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 14:22:35 EST Ugh - Point Proven! I ended up not exercising yesterday. Or making bread. Or cleaning out the pantry. I ended up with a low-grade headache all day and decided to be good to myself and just rest.

I woke up with a nasty headache this morning, but pushed through it. I made the bread - but it didn't turn out well. (Actually tossed it out.) I got the pantry cleaned, and didn't stop there, I ended up cleaning my whole back porch (with my daughters help). I was very happy with how much I had accomplis... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 19:38:05 EST Back on the Band Wagon - Kinda So, I full intended to get back on the low carb band wagon today. I ate a ton of wheat products yesterday (rolls, stuffing, pies) and some high carb treats. And with one exception I'm ready to get back on it. I know some people are thinking pies, but no. Sweet potatoes are my big downfall at the moment. In past years I've made mashed, candied sweet potatoes, but hubby wanted "regular" ones this year. So I did that, but made candied sweet potatoes also. Thing is, I wasn't that intereste... Fri, 29 Nov 2013 12:46:19 EST Am I Back? I'm really not sure. I am so busy I can't really commit to daily check-ins. I've come out, reset everything, and started tracking exercise in a general way. I need some help keeping track of that, but I'm not going to get obsessive about things.

No real goals at the moment. Kinda watching what I eat, but not tracking it. My current diet is gluten free with somewhat low / healthy carbs. I'll get better about diet after Thanksgiving. I've gone up from where I was last time I w... Tue, 19 Nov 2013 06:45:35 EST OMG It's Working! In my last post I was talking about Metabolism Miracle diet. I've been on it for 5 weeks and I'm down 7.5 lbs. In the past I've been thrilled to lose 2 lbs in a month. I'm feeling great, I have the energy to exercise, my energy is stable all day (no ups and downs) and my moods have evened out a lot.

It's taking some getting used to, tracking carbs instead of calories. It's so hard to know what to classify things. Low carb doesn't always mean that. Lots of label reading too (n... Sun, 25 Nov 2012 18:35:24 EST Feeling Pretty Good So today is day 21 on the new eating plan. I have to say I'm pretty surprised. I'm feeling good and my moodiness has pretty much gone away. The mood swings I was having a lot have mellowed out almost to non-existant. I have a much higher patience level too.

On the energy side I can't get over how much I have most days. Just to be able to make it through an afternoon at work without falling asleep at my desk is an accomplishment. It's really impressive that after work I still ... Fri, 9 Nov 2012 07:00:51 EST What a Difference So, last Sunday I snuck a peek at the scale. On the new plan I wasn't supposed to do that until my 8 weeks was up, but I couldn't help myself. My hope was to see me down a pound, maybe two. Instead, I'm DOWN 5!!! 5 lbs in 15 days! O-M-G!!! Now I know that number will slow down, but I've done low / no carb before and not had anywhere near these results.

I have busted my back end on low fat / low cal plans and not lost that much in 3 mos! I'm counting carbs only - not calories... Wed, 7 Nov 2012 09:06:35 EST New Plan Hi all - I know I haven't been around for a while, but life gets busy. I also decided to try something different. I was ordering Dr Oz's book from Rodale Press and for the bazillionth time they recommended Metabolism Miracle. I don't know why I bought it, but I did. When the books came in, this one was on top and I read it first. It made a lot of sense, so I'm trying it.

It's a lifestyle change (like we have here at Spark) but it looks at carbs differently. You have 3 phases.... Tue, 30 Oct 2012 13:01:26 EST Our Latest Addition

Meet Aspen. She is the newest addition to our family.

My neighbor has become the neighborhood "crazy cat lady" when she started feeding 2 feral cats who proceeded to give her about a dozen kittens. I have sat back for weeks telling the hubby no - 3 cats is enough. But I can never tell him no for long. Yesterday, this little angel (who wasn't actually one of the original litters, but showed up last we... Wed, 5 Sep 2012 10:49:35 EST Has Anyone Tried? Green Coffee Bean Extract? Dr. Oz has talked about it for lowering cholesterol. The claim is lower it 44% in 3 weeks. I can't help but think that it's relative to how high it is to begin with, but if I could lower it 10% before my next bloodwork in a month I could get my dr off my back!

I seem to remember the "maximum" cholesterol number used to be higher when they first started spouting off about it. I really feel a lot of it is just bs from the drug companies to sell their me... Thu, 30 Aug 2012 13:53:47 EST I DID IT!!! I completed my first "Extreme Iron Butt / Tour of Honor" Ride!

And in addition to my first, it may be my last. :-) But what an experience!

I've been saying since before I got my motorcycle license I wanted my "Iron Butt". It's a challenge. And of course, leave it to me to go to the extreme! A normal Iron Butt ride is 1000 miles in 24 hours. Extreme means there is an extra challenge thrown in - in my case the Tour of Honor (visit and photograph your bike at 7 design... Mon, 27 Aug 2012 13:45:58 EST Tomorrow's My BIG Day! Tomorrow morning at 5am I start out on something called an Extreme Iron Butt Challenge. Basically, an iron butt challenge means you ride 1,000 miles in under 24 hours. Extreme means there is something else thrown in - in this case I have to complete all 7 Pennsylvania Tour of Honor monument stops in that same 24 hours. One of the guys doing it has mapped it down to selecting gas stations and food stops - and if we keep to the schedule we will finish with like 40 minutes to spare. (Yea, I ... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 14:21:13 EST I'm Still Here! I came back from vacation (which was fabulous and deserves it's own blog) to find they hired a new girl and I was going to be training her! Whoo-hoo! The new girl is great. Unfortunately, every spare moment I'm not working with her I'm trying to play catch-up with the rest of my work. Today she moved over to another person for training, so I'm catching up on work, but wanted to take 5 minutes to say HI over here and let you all know I'm okay!

I'd love to say I'm doing great on ... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 13:25:57 EST Heading North Been so busy this past week getting ready for vacation and it started yesterday. We rode about 350 miles from home to a little town south of the Canadian border. Hubby found some beautiful roads. We rode about 8 hours with 2 hours of breaks mixed in for a total of 10 hours om the road overall. Seems to be a good combination for us that we will probably continue today.

The highlight of yesterdays ride was seeing an almost newborn baby deer. Silly thing wandered into the road, but we... Sun, 22 Jul 2012 06:08:34 EST Countdown! Well, to make sure we're ready for vacation next week, we did a "mini" one this past weekend. 550+ miles in 2 days on the motorcycles. The roads were amazing - big, windy, twisties and beautiful scenery all along the way. We went with friends to the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon in Wellsboro, PA. It was just beautiful! And after hitting around the 250 mark on Saturday only to have me whine that I wasn't ready to stop yet (but what could he say - we were there!) he's not worried about the "ha... Mon, 16 Jul 2012 15:49:19 EST Time to Breathe? Oh, it's been busy! Worst part is I've slacked off on tracking food, and for some reason my brain short-curcuited and thought that was a good excuse to let me eat a bunch of candy yesterday. *UGH!* Cause, you know, if you don't track the calories they don't really count, right?

I woke up this morning exhausted and feeling like crap. Once again reminding myself that sugar in large quantities is not my friend. A spoonful in my tea in the morning is about the extent of what I "ad... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 15:14:08 EST New Fridge Well, I want to upload a pic of the new fridge, but the computer won't let me. :-(

Anyway, it came last night and I'm so happy it's ridiculous! It's HUGE (had to dismantle part of the door-jam to fit through it). I didn't realize how deep it was in the store, I thought all the extra room was from the additional height! But it's in, it's hooked up, we can use the water and we will be able to start using the ice probably tonight.

Funny story about hooking up the water ... Fri, 6 Jul 2012 14:17:38 EST Happy to Hurting.... Yesterday was fantastic. Lazy morning, slow start, spent the bulk of the day riding. Stopped at the b-i-l for a while and hung out with him and the f-i-l. Had an ice-cream stop. Yea, the day was amazing. Even tried out the new windshield. That could be dangerous – I don’t feel my speed. I thought I’d hate it, but now I’m considering not getting it cut down. It was really nice not having any neck soreness at the end of the day from wind buffeting. I’m going to keep testing it for anot... Thu, 5 Jul 2012 10:40:56 EST The Silliest Things Make Me Happy We’re getting a new refrigerator! (I’m bouncing all over doing the happy snoopy dance over this!) My old one is 25 years old and on the small side. The new one has French doors, bottom freezer, ice maker and cold water dispenser! The produce drawers are going to be somewhere that I can reach them easily!!! The new one also has 31 cubic feet of storage. I keep thinking of how nice it’s going to be to be able to fit everything without having to worry about unpackaging things and squeezing... Mon, 2 Jul 2012 14:13:57 EST When to Start I thought that I'd start incorporating the stuff I'm reading into the diet as I'm reading it and I'm already pretty much doing the food part of the diet. Dinner last night I should have used olive oil instead of butter, but it's still a learning curve. Overall though, I think I'm ready to get started. So do I make my official start date tomorrow or Sunday? Hmmmm.... Either way, I'm starting on a weekend which is a challenge in itself for me. If we get up early and ride, well, let's just... Fri, 29 Jun 2012 15:35:16 EST Looking at "Next Steps" The more I read about the Flat Belly Diet and Mediterranean diet the more I like both of them. So I’m going to do a combo of the two of them and see how that works. I am NOT going to do the “Jump Start” because just trying to write the grocery list had me gagging at the mere thought of sunflower seeds. So, I’m making my goals as follows:

-3 meals / 2 snacks a day. Keeping the meals around 400 calories and the snacks under 200. (Might have to change this up on weekends though a... Thu, 28 Jun 2012 09:24:04 EST Planning As I said yesterday, things are getting bad again. So I sat down and wrote a letter about all the things that I'm unhappy about. Don't ask - just say it was a lot. I realized I've done this before - and maybe part of my problem is in the delivery. I wouldn't want a laundry list of things he thought were wrong, so why would I do that to him? So I'm picking one thing. If that one thing changes for the better, a lot of the other things would fall into place. I haven't talked to him yet be... Wed, 27 Jun 2012 15:09:48 EST Bitter? Last night hubby said that it seems like I've been bitter about some stuff that's been happening for a while. Thing is, I don't think it's just what he thinks it is, it's a whole lot more. I guess I'm wondering if it's worth the stress of actually trying to discuss the other stuff with him or if I should just let it go.

I'm not sure it'd be worth the stress of trying to talk about it. It's nothing that we haven't discussed before. He says that it'll get better, but I always end... Tue, 26 Jun 2012 14:22:30 EST Busy Weekend Well, boychild has left for his grandma's till the beginning of August, so hubby and I took advantage of our first "free" weekend by putting almost 500 miles on the bikes.

On Saturday we started the "Tour of Honor". This is an at your own pace thing that has you visit veterans memorials in your state and take a pic with them to prove you were there. When you complete a state / region you get a certificate. Part of the $ raised for registration goes to the Wounded Warrior Project... Mon, 25 Jun 2012 13:28:08 EST Accomplishments Well, the last couple days have held a bunch of accomplishments. Maybe for no one but me, but they make me feel good.

Yesterday morning I woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep. So instead of lying there being frustrated I got up, straightened the bathroom shelves, sorted the stack o’ paperwork in the dining room, and even got my bloodwork done before work. Go me!

Today, I went shopping and bought a bunch of new tops. My pants are still tight so I refuse to buy more ... Fri, 22 Jun 2012 15:46:04 EST Zzzzzzzz That pretty much sums up how I feel today.

I woke up this morning more tired than when I went to bed last night. How is that even possible?

We went out and bought boychild his first cellphone, then dinner at Olive Garden to celebrate the passing of another school year. DH has been bugging for boychild to have a phone, so I think I did it mainly to pacify him. Boychild hasn’t really asked. (And I still don’t think they’re appropriate for middle-school aged kids, but….... Wed, 20 Jun 2012 15:25:09 EST Big Girl Pants On Yesterday's meltdown is over. I've snapped out of it. Last night was a good night with good food choices, so I can't complain. I didn't let the scale talk me into stepping on it this morning - so I felt like I started today with a success. I also rode in to work - and any day that starts on 2 wheels is gonna be a good one! :-)

I know I'm up. I can't button my pants and breathe at the same time. What I'm frustrated about is I JUST donated the old pants to the local shelter a ... Tue, 19 Jun 2012 13:45:48 EST Frustrated Already I know, how dare I be frustrated already when I just got back here? I want to say I’m furious, but somehow I feel that the amount of energy it takes to be furious gives my scale too much power. So I’ll just say I’m frustrated. And confused!

Got back on track about a week ago and a half ago, and was doing pretty good. I didn’t get a lot of exercise in, but I did EAT GREAT. Lots of fruits – after all it’s that time of the year to take advantage of all the fresh stuff out there, ... Mon, 18 Jun 2012 09:48:49 EST Back??? Yea, let's try this again. :-)

I've been MIA for the better part of the last 6 mos. But I know I need to come back and get serious again.

So, today is day 2. I went over calories yesterday, but not horribly. (I forgot I was counting last night and had a mini-binge on ice cream.) Then again, I decided halfway through the afternoon I was getting back on track - NOW - so yesterday wasn't a "preplanned" kinda day. I realized that my hand was in the candy dish at work A... Thu, 7 Jun 2012 16:26:32 EST BUSY Week Well, it's my last week at work and I am B-U-S-Y! So much to get done by the end of the week. I'm leaving Friday, one admin is on vacation next week, and the girl who's back part time is only here 1 1/2 days. So Friday is being treated like it's the end of year around here.

I'm really looking forward to having my old boss back. We've been emailing back and forth this week. I'm already gearing up for all the things I'll have to remind him - like to eat lunch, and to go home, an... Wed, 21 Dec 2011 13:03:42 EST I GOT THE JOB!!! I should probably be happier about it, but I'm kinda "bleh". The main reason I wanted it was because I can work with my old boss again. He really is the best. THAT I'm looking forward too. I should be looking forward to the stability of a full time job again with benefits a lot more than I am. I mean, benefits is a biggie. Paid holidays/vacation/sick time is HUGE! So why am I not bouncing off the walls?

Well, a couple reasons. They came in at the very bottom of my salary re... Fri, 16 Dec 2011 15:05:19 EST Pass The Duct Tape! It might be the only way to shut my mouth!

First, I tried getting on yesterday, but my browser wouldn't let me open windows. So.... I'm here today though!

Tuesday I was home sleeping off a migraine. Worst one I've had in YEARS. I thought I had compensated for this weekend hitting every single one of my migraine triggers and had gotten past the point of getting hit with one, and I got knocked on my arse Tuesday morning. Woke up in so much pain that my daughter had to... Thu, 15 Dec 2011 10:47:42 EST Wreaths Across America Escort 2011 On Friday morning we headed down to DE to meet up with the convoy for the last leg of the journey. I was with them when they stopped at a HS where a special wreath laying ceremony was held for a Gold Star Mother whose son died recently.

We stopped at a VFW and were treated like royalty the way they fed us. We had a beautiful ceremony at the WW2 Memorial in DC. Then back to the hotel for the night. ... Mon, 12 Dec 2011 10:34:34 EST Wreaths Across America It's 3:40am. I'm up, showered and dressed. Ready to ride out and meet up with friends to join the main convoy for Wreaths Across America. My first year riding as part of the escort.

I'm honored to be able to do something, no matter how small, to show my support for all our hero's.

Everybody behave while I'm gone! Fri, 9 Dec 2011 03:42:43 EST Pretty Much Mine Had the "second" job interview this morning. Got a tour of the office, met the co-workers and the company President (who I would also be directly supporting), and was pretty much asked where I would like my desk to be. I've taken the drug test, filled out the paperwork for the background check, and will do the personality test tonight when I can have quiet and concentrate. We've discussed salary, time off and benefits, along with a potential start date.

I have never had an inter... Thu, 8 Dec 2011 13:32:44 EST It's All Good So I had my quasi-interview with my last boss, and everything went great. The job sounds super! I'd only be admin for 2 people, but I'd be in charge of special projects and it sounds like I'd always have work that challenges me. Whoo-hoo! Challenges make me happy. My brain hurts at the end of the day sometimes, but they do make me happy.

Then I get home to the bad news. Hubbies oldest is a Marine in Afghanistan. He drives the big fuel truck for the convoys. Yesterday he hit... Wed, 7 Dec 2011 10:02:17 EST Feeling Pretty I'm wearing a dress for probably about the first time in a decade. Not a skirt/blouse but a real dress. It's one of those sweater dresses that are so popular in the winter, and it is SO COMFY! I've always been a fan of them, but haven't owned one for a number of years because I really haven't liked my legs (even when I was 30 lbs lighter than I am now). I used to be a dancer (okay, a stripper) and my legs were amazing.

So, not only am I in a dress, I'm in a relatively short dre... Tue, 6 Dec 2011 15:57:18 EST Grew a Braincell! So, I've been busy, but more than that, computer problems are keeping me away. I've spent the bulk of the last 2 weeks on with the helpdesk with IE problems. Unfortunately, the only program that was still giving me problems as of last week was "SPARK!". No way I could call the helpdesk and say "oh, my diet program isn't loading properly".

So today I grew a braincell. Wonder if it's a browser setting? I've reset it so many times I'm surprised the system doesn't reach out and ... Mon, 5 Dec 2011 09:18:14 EST Determined to Make Time Well, I would say I'm back on the wagon, but I never really went off of it. New position = insane amounts of work (which I love) and I'm just too busy to spend the time on here that I did in the past. :-(

On the bright side, as I said, I never went off the wagon. I didn't track well this past week, but if anything I was under calories. I've been mentally calculating things and the weight is slowly coming off, so I must be doing something right.

I've decided that it's... Mon, 28 Nov 2011 12:17:04 EST Some Good / Some Not-So-Much Yesterday morning I was digging through my closet looking for my black pants. I found them and put them on and realized they were snug. Not tight, but snug. And the last time I remember wearing them they were almost falling off. So I started to panic and I realized that the washer didn't shrink them. The washer hasn't seen them yet since the ones I wore last week are still in the hamper. I just put on the pants I haven't been able to fit into in over a year! Whoo-hoo!!! So while the s... Tue, 1 Nov 2011 12:46:37 EST Just a Few More Hours Got word a couple hours ago my friend is on American soil! Whoo-hoo! I got so choked up I almost started crying. I'm leaving work in another 15 minutes to get on my bike, grab hubby and head to his house to pick up his bike. We're going to have it at the airport for him when he comes out. (And we have another friend in a car to grab his bags for him.)

We had almost no warning, so we've been going crazy to get the word out there. Hubby has the local pd and fd on stand by - we ... Fri, 28 Oct 2011 14:15:18 EST OMG Busy! I have been swamped the last few days. Both at home and work. I have gotten so far behind that twice now since Friday I've had to sit down and put in my food for multiple days. (And I hate doing that - always afraid I'll miss something!) Yesterday was a good example. Went over points by a few hundred. But, I haven't done that in a while, so I'm okay with it. (I had planned on going over on Sunday but amazingly didn't, so no biggie.)

I'm so busy I'm having a hard time getting... Wed, 26 Oct 2011 12:13:04 EST More??? I came home from work tonight to find out that my dad has been admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. Again. I'm so glad it's Friday, this week is over, and hoping it doesn't bleed into the weekend.

Urgh!!! ENOUGH!!! Fri, 21 Oct 2011 19:00:58 EST No More Please! Okay, this week is one for the bad news recordbooks. And I NEVER want to repeat it!

Last night we got a phone call from my husbands father. Seems his brother has been randomly passing out recently. He passes out and is actually out for a couple minutes at a time. It's happened a couple of times at work and I don't know where else, but he's hurt himself (not seriously) from the falls when they happen. It amazes me that it took several incidents before he was willing to see a dr... Fri, 21 Oct 2011 14:41:29 EST What Do You Say? If you know me, you know I'm always there for my friends. Phone, stop by, call and say it's urgent and I'll be on your doorstep for you. But sometimes, I just don't want to take that call.

My friend who fell of the ladder is in his second surgery this morning. He caught me online at like 7am and I actually skipped my shower before work to talk with him. Problem is I don't know what to say to him. From what he's said, the leg is worse than he was originally lead to believe. Th... Thu, 20 Oct 2011 13:29:22 EST Not a Good Week I don't think I'm going to answer my phone today. I don't need any more bad news.

On Monday morning I found out that one of the salesmen from the dealership was killed in a bike accident on Sunday night. Really sweet kid. (He was only 25.) Always had a smile, always joking around, just someone you enjoyed chatting with for a few minutes when you were at the store. At first, it looked like he just lost control of his bike, but as we hear more of the story it sounds like he swer... Wed, 19 Oct 2011 10:16:44 EST Good Monday Morning! Okay, not really, but if I say it enough I'll start believing it!

Yesterday was fantastic. Another charity event - St. Mary's cyclefest. The route was wonderful, and we had a huge group go. I even got to lead for a bit (although that part wasn't planned, it went really well). I wish I could say the food was good, but it was kinda blah. I actually went home and made dinner afterwards (which I almost never do after an event - we just eat enough to make it dinner and grab a snack... Mon, 17 Oct 2011 09:43:50 EST Ride for Heros Today's ride was just made of awesome!

We left as a huge group from the dealership and headed to the local police station for their benefit ride. Our club must have had over 50 bikes representing it, and I love that we support our local heros so much. The ride was so cool - going down major roads with lots of lights with a police escourt is the way to go! I was told that last year they got up to 80 on one road, but today we maxed out around 50.

We had one stop and the... Sat, 15 Oct 2011 20:07:26 EST From Famine to Feast Sorry I've been away the last couple days, but I'm finally busy at work! (All say YAY!!!) I went from nothing to do all day to too busy to goof off. Oh, am I loving being busy!

One downside to the new position is that because I already had a computer, they wouldn't set up a laptop for me. So I've been waiting all week for them to move my "tower" from one building to another. It's supposed to arrive tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm able to do a tiny bit of computer work from a b... Wed, 12 Oct 2011 20:53:23 EST I Took My Stupid Pills! I rode into work today. Parked the bike, got off, and went to lock my gear up. Only to realize I FORGOT MY KEYS! Ugh! Well, it's my last day at this site, and I head over to the other one this afternoon. Guess I'll take a few minutes to run home and grab them!

On the bright side, this morning did start out with getting my cardio done. And I did get out of the house 10 minutes earlier than usual, so I got to see what the worst part of the traffic would be like at that time, an... Mon, 10 Oct 2011 08:10:53 EST
