SKEETOR's SparkPeople Blog SKEETOR's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Weekly Goals I read recently that a goal is not a goal, unless it's written down.... 211

Okay, so here are my weekly goals for this week:

1. Do a total of 45 mins of exercise each day which can be done in smaller increments (no excuses)

2. Get my taxes done. (removing a stressor)

3. Keep a food journal. (being aware)

Now to get another cup of coffee. Have a great day, Sparkers!

Mon, 7 Mar 2016 08:37:32 EST Just a blurb... 39
Well, I haven't bothered to redo my fitness tests because I don't think I have done anything that would've improved my score. Drat!
251
I was away last week to visit my daughter and new granddaughter! I had lots of fun just holding the baby. She's only about a month old and, of course, oh, so pretty! Needless to say, I didn't watch too well what I ate but I did go for a walk each morning so---not all bad.
149
It's going to b... Thu, 25 Feb 2016 08:40:49 EST Keeping accountable and tracking progress -So I took some diagnostic fitness tests to see where I'm at so I can have a baseline for tracking my goals. I did the 1-mile walking test (which may have been over 1 mile, but as long as I do the same next time, it will still monitor my progress) and got a 17:43 which at my gender and age puts me at "Fair" - meh. The crunch test I did 37 in half a minute (my time keeper messed up) so I figure maybe 60/min as they seemed easy to me and that gave me an "Excellent". I also completed the push... Sat, 23 Jan 2016 18:30:11 EST Bad habits die hard... Alright, so I have a lot of bad food/exercise related habits-that's why I'm on Sparkpeople, to unlearn them.
For example, yesterday I ate a WHOLE bag of Beanitos as a "snack" 29 Why do I do this? I'm not really sure. I think because I have a whole lot of demands on that are creeping up on me (but then, everyone does). Or maybe it was because I was in front of the TV? 40 I have knitting I could have worked on, but didn't. Or was it the beer I drank? ... Fri, 22 Jan 2016 11:25:53 EST Very Busy or Just Excuses? --I've been rather bad about exercising lately. I did injure my knee but it's been good enough for walking for the past week and have I? NO! My excuse has been that I have been too busy but, really, who can't spare a 10 min walk. I definately have 10 min. that I could spare but I just haven't made myself do it. It's crazy the things I do. I actually love physical work. I'm not sure why I keep talking myself out of it...
--Anyhow, my Arabic class is going well so far. Not ready to ... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 06:55:04 EST Rambling and sometimes I just read too much...'s been a long time since I blogged. As far as my weight loss, right now I have no idea where I am, nor do I really think that I want to know. I will weigh myself tomorrow. I've had this flu bug for the past two weeks and so could not exercise due to coughing fits, breathing issues and general blah-ness. Now, due to my idleness, my arthritis is acting up in my back (crawling around the floor "cutting in" the paint probably didn't help either). Then I "tweaked" my neck. My carin... Thu, 20 Dec 2012 09:49:03 EST A little linguistic humor with the "German Coast Guard" I came across this last night and it tickled me so much I had to share it with my friends!

Have a super Saturday!! Sat, 17 Nov 2012 09:30:38 EST Long time, No blog... Things have been rough the last few weeks. First I traveled to Ohio and that got me out of whack, then I had one week back where I was getting back into the swing of things. Then my husband was home for 4 days and I wanted to spend time with him rather than do my workouts, practice violin, etc. All my routines were thrown to the wind. So here I start again today!

I read a blog that had “excuse” quotes, namely the following:
“He that is good for making excuses is seldom goo... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 08:34:41 EST Lost one of my best lil' buddies this morning... -Peanut (aka Nuthead), the fuzzy face you see by my nickname "Skeetor", could no longer hardly breathe this morning so my poor husband took him to the Vet to be set free. He had a bad heart murmur. He went down hill fast, yesterday he came with me as usual to help me fill the bird feeders with just a couple of coughs and all of a sudden last night he had to hold his head straight out to breathe. Of course, in my own make believe world, I was hoping he was just having one of his bad days an... Wed, 5 Sep 2012 10:10:09 EST Yippee, Friday! I still need to do a Motivational Collage... Hello, Fellow Sparkers!
- HAPPY FRIDAY! Mine has been good so about yours?
- I did have a little bit of a downer earlier as I found a poor Mourning Dove caught up in the bird netting over the figs. It's the first time I've seen a bird get tangled up in it. Unfortunately it was already dead. Drat! My husband thinks I am crazy to get so upset about it. He just says "Sometimes that happens...Mourning Doves aren't very smart". I have seen lots of snakes get caught up b... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 10:40:30 EST Just wanted to post my goals.....nothing else (feel free to offer suggestions!) Okay, so time to take this seriously folks...
I sat down and treated coming up with my long term goal as if it were homework:

I want to get to a healthy weight in order to be able to remain active my entire life, to increase my endurance and stamina and so I can feel more comfortable in tight spaces.

Strategy: To go with my CG husband to the base on his PT days and work out as well (3 days/week), to also utilize my workout tapes on his non-PT days (and in addition ... Fri, 17 Aug 2012 18:07:50 EST SparkCoach, fresh fruit & veggies and newborn bunnies Well, I decided to give the SparkCoach thing a try. I do tend to have trouble with focusing so maybe this will help me make eating right and exercising a priority.
My hubby brought me a bowl of cherries 289 just now and they are really yummy. I am not sure why I don't fruits and veggies more often! I do cook from scratch a lot with veggies but don't eat them enough in their raw state. Then, I am really good about buying fruit but tend to forget about it until they ar... Sat, 11 Aug 2012 13:47:11 EST Weight, garden, classes.... So... I haven't blogged in a bit. I fell off the wagon a little and put on a couple of pounds, not much but am deciding whether to update my scale or just wait until I catch up again with where my slider is right now. It almost seems like cheating to count the weight again when I lose it. 29

I am taking two classes (12 hours a week) on line right now and it might be part of my problem. Too much sitting in front of the computer and doing homework, taking up valuable ex... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 11:50:06 EST A possible cure for marauding squirrels... Just passing on a funny episode from the garden.

I have a butterfly garden in which I placed a birdfeeder on the tallest shepherd's hook I could find. Well, the neighbor's cat likes to hide under the viburnums and launch himself at the birds. 40 I did temporarily leave my garden hose positioned so that I could just turn on the water at the spigot and squirt the little devil when I saw him--but he quickly learned just to leave as I came out the door...sooooo I remembere... Wed, 2 May 2012 09:57:57 EST Hoping to get back on track and truly Spring Into Shape :) --I am hoping the Spring Into Shape Bootcamp helps me get my motivation going. I played around with my page today and added some goals. Unfortunately, they are somewhat depressing and I am trying to get the correct attitude about them. I played with dates and a BMI calculator. Soooo if I do a slow and steady weight loss I should be a "normal" weight by February 2013! POOPDOODLES! My biggest problem is consistancy. I start out okay and then get slower and start skipping things and prett... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 10:59:15 EST Success is the ability to go from failure to failure without losing your enthusiasm. --I'm hoping the title quote is correct. I just can't seem to lose any weight lately... :( Drat! I need to log my food. I don't think the amount of exercise is the problem must be the calorie intake...Drat, drat! ...Must find lo-cal meals that taste good. I have a few already just sometimes (especially lunch) I go for the higher-cal quick grab. I need to plan out my week better.
--Everything else is carrying on as normal. It stopped raining and the sun is now out, but i... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 09:55:07 EST A long time since I've blogged! Hello, Sparkers!
-It's been quite some time since I've had the time to blog! I also haven't been taking too much care in the manner of weight loss, but---at least I haven't gained!
-I am going to try to work some really good meals into my routine. My garden helps with that. I've been munching down a whole lot of asparagus lately. I planted 31 tomato plants, 32 pepper plants, 10 cucumber plants and 16 okra plants this weekend. I started all the seedlings on heat mats and under gr... Thu, 19 Apr 2012 09:31:17 EST 'Tis the season to be jolly! (I'm working on it!) --Well, I have been off again for a while...I love the Christmas season but I am never, EVER, quite ready for it. I haven't even mailed cards, yet....and I have two sets to do. One for mine and hubbie's and one for my dad. Bah, humbug! :)
--I am sort of in a whiny mood this morning as last night my online Mandarin Chinese class started. Oooh, the other two people in it speak so well! --not I. :( I am thinking about dropping it and maybe trying to get into another at a lower level. ... Wed, 14 Dec 2011 09:21:05 EST It's the holiday season! :) ---Oooh, I just love the holiday season! But I am sooooo busy. My daughter and son-in-law came up from Texas for Thanksgiving with their two dogs (a dachsie and a mystery). There was lots of barking and running and cat hissing. It was fun but- oh, it's all peaceful again. Then yesterday we drove up to my other daughter's house in Virginia, and our other daughter from Alabama was there as well. Likewise each daughter has her own dog and the one in Virginia also has a cat so more barking,... Thu, 1 Dec 2011 09:37:19 EST Up at dad's place...rambling... --Well, I am up at my pa's house for a couple of weeks. I do some work around the house, take him to see his doctors and generally contemplate life. This is the house I grew up in and it makes me sad. All of my friends have moved away....the woods we used to play in have been cut down and now there is just empty stores and concrete parking lots. Ick, ick, ick!

--But on a happier note, I didn't do too badly on the ten-hour drive. Yep, I stay awake while driving by munching (and... Fri, 14 Oct 2011 15:45:10 EST Just blogging... --I'm feeling a little bit "Blah-y" today. Probably because I have so much stuff to do but I wanted to take a road trip Saturday to a garden about an hour or so from where we live. But my own yard is a mess since my back was out for quite a bit of the year....My office is still a mess because, well, because, you see, okay, the office mess is all my fault. I never know where to put all the stuff!
--Seven gets his stitches out today. Peanut is still coughing everytime he gets excited (... Thu, 6 Oct 2011 09:42:12 EST Going to try to eating smart and walking strong... --Well, my latest attempt to improve my eating habits is to try L. Sansone's plan in "Eat Smart, Walk Strong". I like her "walk, walk, walk" tapes (even though when she says that I see fleeting images of chickens in my head "buck, buck, buck") and her ideas and changing eating habits seem to make sense to me. Hopefully, this will get rid of my bad habits and instill some better ones. We'll see.
--Pet cat in the neighborhood causing a fluffing up in Mr. Cleese. I of cour... Mon, 3 Oct 2011 07:47:31 EST Yea! Last day of antibiotics for the kitties! No more antibiotics for the kitties! I am really getting a bit old to chase Lucy around the table, behind the couch, under the bed and through the slippery-floored mudroom/laundryroom. She REALLY does not like the antibiotics. Seven, on the other hand, just looks up at me clueless until he tastes the stuff--then he runs.
Peanut is still coughing. He had a rough time of it last night as we had a lot of thunder and it makes him nervous. I ordered some Rescue Remedy yesterday. ... Thu, 29 Sep 2011 09:06:44 EST The Year of the Vet.... --I took Seven and Miss Lucy to the vet this morning. Seven was to have a "suspicious" mole removed and his teeth cleaned. They asked if I wanted to send the mole off to a lab but realizing that I wouldn't mess with any cancer treatments due to kitty stress and his age, I decided to let it go. They took out a good margin around it, so hopefully he'll be okay.
--Miss Lucy was just there to get her teeth cleaned. Unfortunately, she had to lose an upper canine. She's going to be mad ... Tue, 20 Sep 2011 13:23:49 EST Just a motivational quote... Motivational quote for today...

You cannot expect to achieve new goals or move beyond your present circumstances unless you change.
~Les Brown~

Okay, this one really, really applies to me. I need to change some of my eating habits. If I keep doing the same things I'm going to get the same results, right? This is a real hard one for me as I am such a FOODIE! 4 Ugh....I need to get some of the fats out of my diet. My pie graph is not agreeing with the n... Fri, 16 Sep 2011 12:55:49 EST Must stay focused...
What you do today can improve all your tomorrows.
Ralph Marston

Okay so in my continuing "read a motivational quote a day" series. I think this one is important in that to me it says stay focused on your goal. I really don't think I keep my goal in the front of my mind like I should. A lot of times I am busy thinking of other things. If I keep my goals in front, it should be easier to do the right things.

Other than that nothing else really going on...ot... He's threatened several times to take my nice sharp knives away from me. He gave them to me for Christmas a couple years back and since then, a lot of blood has been shed (don't worry, only mine!). The food processor he gave me was what really worried me... those fast spinning blades! So far, no accidents...
--I made a new recipe last night from a cook... Thu, 8 Sep 2011 10:35:55 EST Ouchy! and other things... --I'm feeling pretty stupid this morning. I was cleaning up the dishes and reached into the sink and my finger landed on my chef's knife which was laying with the blade up (some knucklehead left it in the sink last night). Wed, 7 Sep 2011 10:42:10 EST Just Rambling -Well, Hurricane Irene came and went. Fortunately, there was no damage to the house. Just sat by hurricane lamp light for about 10 hours. Unfortunately, she took down one of our shade trees in the back and a lot of limbs. I'm running out of room to pile the stuff up at the curb! Luckily, the city should pick up some today so I'll have room again! We got most of the big stuff out of the yard. My husband I walked around our neighborhood and everyone seems to have come out pretty good her... Wed, 31 Aug 2011 08:51:41 EST Peanut is doing better after the steroid shots! :) Yesterday after Peanut's first shot, he slept most of the day. Yesterday evening he woke up and was just about normal! Not lethargic and not seeming to be in any pain. This morning I have trouble trying to keep him from sitting on his hind legs (begging, which he does all the time for any reason at all).
Anyhow, I am still keeping him from going up and down stairs, as well as from any other jumping or strenuous activity. He had his second shot today and tomorrow he has one mor... Wed, 17 Aug 2011 12:38:43 EST Nope, nope, more pets for me! --Argh!.. My dad's dog, Peanut (a.k.a. nuthead, nutterbut, buthead, nuttimus--my photo/avatar), seemed a little lethargic and sore. He also was limping/stumbling a bit. We took him to the vet this morning and it seems he hurt his back pretty badly (herniated/slipped? disc). So, the vet gave him a shot of steroids and told us no steps, jumping or running for the little dear or he could hurt himself to the point of losing use of his legs. He also needs to come back for the next several day... Tue, 16 Aug 2011 14:58:29 EST It's still smokey out there... --I wish the air would clear up outside. It still smells of smoke from the Dismal Swamp fire in Virginia - BUT - it's not too hot outside! Only about 87º ... I see there are some tropical developments that might come our way. As long as the winds don't get too strong, we sure could use the rain!
--Had a bad day today, diet-wise. Sometimes I get these cravings that drive me crazy. Any ideas how to slow down? --Okay, so I have always eaten fast since I can remember. When I was young my sister would eat everything up if I didn't eat quickly. I can remember leaving my pudding in the refrigerator to eat later and it would mysteriously disappear. Then I joined the military and anyone who has been in knows you have to eat quick there. Well, now I find I am still eating like I only have a few minutes to eat. My husband (bless his skinny butt) eats slowly and I end up staying at the table and eating... Wed, 10 Aug 2011 15:16:00 EST Charlie decided it was time to go.. --After trying many things to save him, my cat Charlie must've gone off to die. He was getting skinnier and more lethargic but still sitting on my lapand nuzzling. He still came in every morning to eat (he was an indoor/outdoor cat and loved to be outside). He'd stay in all day (too hot) and go out at night (just to sit around the yard, he rarely leaves the yard). Well, yesterday morning he didn't come in. My 16-year-old cat still refuses to eat. It's been about two months since he's been able to eat well.
He started grinding his teeth when he ate and since then doesn't eat much. At first I started force-feeding him for a week or so, but he really hated it and I felt like I was torturing him. Wed, 20 Jul 2011 09:48:24 EST Happy 4th of July weekend! Don't feel like blogging today. My back hurts and I took motrin so now I'm out of it. Happy Fourth! Sat, 2 Jul 2011 11:27:57 EST Goin' out to Kitty Hawk for Air Conditioner parts... - Okay, so day four with no proper air conditioning. The part that finally got here yesterday afternoon was the wrong one. It seems that the last number on our part was a "2" but the one they sent us had the number "7" (a little better penmanship at the shop would've been nice). So rather than wait until Friday to see if the right part comes in, we will drive to Kitty Hawk to pick it up there (hopefully it will be there...).
- The veterinarian was supposed to do surgery on my cat yeste... Thu, 30 Jun 2011 10:52:34 EST C'mon Mr. Airconditioner Part Supplier, call! rain=froggy hoedown in the swamp Well, they had to order the airconditioner fan blade from Virginia but it should get here today or tomorrow at the latest.
Meanwhile, my redneck MacGyver husband (genius that he is..) has the hose spraying on the conditioner unit to transfer the heat off the system. Tue, 28 Jun 2011 12:15:30 EST Airconditioner is out! Ugh....last night we discovered the fan assembly on our heat pump is busted and the fan no longer turns while the unit runs. So...we placed a house fan on top of the unit and a high velocity fan at the side but to save the unit I have the temp in the house turned way up. Now I'm trying to find the part somewhere, but being in a smaller town, I don't think I'll be able to get one today.

Just got a call it won't be in until tomorrow (or the next day at the latest!) :( Mon, 27 Jun 2011 09:49:05 EST Anyone know a good rain dance? I feel sorry for the people with too much rain and floods. I wish there was some way they could send it here! I feel sorry for the farmers in this area. I saw corn that was only about 2 feet high (if that) and already tassled. Between the drought and the high temperatures everything is having problems.
I've been watering my garden every other day and even then I have wilting and bolting plants. Sun, 26 Jun 2011 11:01:41 EST Ordering seeds Well, I finally decided what plants I want to grow this year and mapped them out as to where I can grow them. I hope that they'll grow where I placed them! I'm a little behind ordering my seeds and I hope I can still get the varieties I want!

Next week the spinach, mesc, and collards should show some life if they're going to grow under the tunnel conditions.

I weighed in at 195 this morning but will wait until my week is up to change the ticker. I was worse but just recently lost about 30 lbs and am hoping to get off this plateau I've been on.
I am diabetic but not out of control. I am to keep it that way.
