SJOHNSON512's SparkPeople Blog SJOHNSON512's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community 2013 Here We Go I have come to a lot of realizations in the last month. 1) why do something if you don't enjoy it? 2) I need to do something different/better 3) I need to get serious about being healthier.

With all these realizations in mind I'm declaring that I'm going to make the following changes to my life:
1) I'm going to become a healthier person this year. That means emotionally, mentally, and physically.

2) I WILL meet my weightloss goal by the end of the year. Or be darn ... Wed, 23 Jan 2013 09:50:37 EST Come walk with me 250 The holidays are almost over. I have managed not to eat or drink my self up another size. That alone is a victory. It's the first holiday without my husband so the fact that I am physically no worse for the wear is great. Christmas wasn't an easy day but it wasn't the worst either. I had a moment of sadness then it passed.

In the spirit of moving forward I am going to get myself together. Mark my words. 2013 will be the year. I have a goal to be at my goal weight b... Fri, 28 Dec 2012 13:43:19 EST Holiday Decorating = Exercise Do you all think that decorating the house for Christmas counts as exercise? I was thinking about that as I was digging through the shed to find the right Christmas tree and decorations. After a several minutes of sweating (and cursing) I managed to get everything that I needed into the house.

Next came moving furniture out of the way to make room for the tree in the front window. Once the furniture was moved I had to get out the vacuum because I found another cat under the chair ... Mon, 3 Dec 2012 10:25:58 EST Woo hoo I went to the doc this week for my annual physical. It was after lunch in the mid-afternoon. I was dreading the weigh-in but hey, who doesn't? To help myself feel better about it I of course shed my coat, my bag, and my 90lbs shoes. I always like to help the nurse move the scale thingies around because, well, I hope it helps. It never really does though. As I stood there I moved the large slider up to the appropriate place. Then I moved the small slider further and further up. I didn't love ... Fri, 30 Nov 2012 13:41:46 EST My back hurts Hi there,
I have a question for everyone. Should I still exercise if my back hurts? I want to but I don't want to risk further injury. The small of my back bothers me if I stand too long or am on my feet for a long period of time. It feels like someone is kneeling on my lower back. It also feels more curved inward than normal. I do have an appointment with a chiropractor scheduled for tomorrow.

Please advise. Tue, 20 Nov 2012 14:25:51 EST So Ready I am so ready for all of this weight to drop off. I know it's not going to happen magically or overnight. I'm going to have to work for it. I know this. I didn't grow up in a family where fitness and nutrition played a large part on our lives. My mother is a tiny woman that weighed around 85lbs her whole life. My grandmother pretty much ate what she wanted to. Although she's harsh on everyone when it comes to weight gain. My mother is the exception to the rule. All of my other relatives are t... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 10:16:39 EST On a Roll 244 I'm on a roll this week. Granted, it's a little roll but hey, it's better than none at all. I've worked out three times this week. Wednesday I could have given up after I couldn't get the DVD player to work in the basement but I didn't. I just took my mat and DVD to my bedroom and pushed play. Yesterday I had an appointment between getting off the bus and my yoga class. This appointment was going to make me a little bit late for yoga but instead of calling it quits, I showed u... Fri, 16 Nov 2012 10:40:14 EST I did it!...Again Yesterday was a bit of a triumph for me. After feeling glum about what the scale had to say I definitely felt better after I hit the gym. Did I want to? Nope, sure didn't. But I took away the option. Once I view things as non-negotiable I have no problem doing them. So, last night I got home, changed clothes, and carted my booty to the gym.

I grabbed my once favorite treadmill and my kindle and away I went. I was a little disheartened to find that I couldn't do the speeds that I ... Wed, 14 Nov 2012 16:04:40 EST Up Not Down Well here we are again. The scale is going up, up, up and my positive thoughts are going down, down, down.

Last weekend I was out of town visit family. Usually when I go out of town I leave with the intention to pick healthy foods yada yada yada. Well, this time I had no such thoughts but I did pretty well despite that. I picked yogurt and regular coffee for breakfast at the airport. I had a meal bar for lunch along with a bottle of water. It was dinner that did me in...we went to... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 13:28:38 EST Can't seem to regulate my blood pressure. 29
Just this year I've been having issues with my blood pressure. It started when I got pregnant in January. When I was going to the doctor on a regular basis for check ups it was higher than normal but still in the normal range. After I lost the baby my blood pressure skyrocketed. I found out it was way too high in May when I attempted to donate blood. At that time it was 150/102. That freaked me out. I made an appointment to see my doctor. She told me to exercise more and ... Fri, 26 Oct 2012 13:00:45 EST Powering through Today was a bit of a challenge. Last night I went to a play with my brother. It was a great play. The play was called Government Inspector. It was a slapstick comedy mocking the corrupt nature of Russian bureaucrats in the age of Tzar Nicholas. If you're in the D.C. area I highly recommend it.

But I digress. I didn't get home until about 11:30 pm. Which means that I didn't get to bed until midnight-ish. Because of all that I had trouble dragging myself out of bed at 6am.
<B... Thu, 25 Oct 2012 21:51:29 EST Friends that lose together... vacation together. My friend Courtneys78 and I have decided that when we reach our weightloss goals that we are going to take a vacation. It's either going to be San Diego, CA or Hawaii.

I love both places so I would be totally stoked to go to either one. I'm all for it. Tomorrow starts day one for me. I'm going to totally commit to this. I'm going to work out at least 3x a week to start with. I also need to drink more water so I'm going to aim for 3 bottles of water a day.
... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 21:54:50 EST I did it! I am a little bit proud of myself. For the first time since my husband passed I was able to get myself out of bed in enough time to exercise a little bit before I rushed out the door to go to work. Granted, I only walked a quick lap around my neighborhood but it's movement, right? It's a step in the right direction. Tonight I have a yoga class.
Today is starting off in a good way. I hope you all are having a fantastic day too. Thu, 11 Oct 2012 08:44:57 EST I did not cheat I am more than a little proud of myself. Today my company's board of directors held their quarterly meeting in the office. Well, those meetings are chock full of high calorie, yummy snacks. However, we don't always get to enjoy those treats. Today there was a lot of leftover snacks and stuff when the board was done. So, our meeting planners sent an email to the rest of us letting us know that the goodies were now up for grabs. Usually I debate with myself about whether or not I want the cooki... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 14:59:28 EST Motivation How do you all stay motivated? I need motivational tips. I know that I need to lose weight. I know why I need to lose weight. I enjoy healthy eating so that's not really the problem.
My problem is that I hate exercise. I know that I need to do it but I don't enjoy it. Currently I am taking a belly dancing class and a yoga class. Both of those things I truly do enjoy. But they are only once a week and neither really push the cardio button. I tried doing the Insanity stuff and all I ended... Tue, 2 Oct 2012 15:32:14 EST
