Very heavy on shoulders and legs. Lunges, squats, leg lifts of various sorts, calf raises..pushups, bridges, table tops.. Gonna be sore tomorrow, I think.

I like my black tea with cinnamon. I picked it up on a whim at the grocery on Sunday, and it's nice, I like it. The Jasmine green tea I bought is less wonderful--a little too perfumey when it's brewed strong.. The tea is my caffeine hit to counteract the generic... Tue, 3 Apr 2012 21:53:44 EST *sneeze* *snooze* http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4817563 Hi.

So I've been testing out different allergy medicines this year. I started with generic-Claritin, which dried me out but didn't stop the itching or sneezing. Then I tried generic-Allegra, which mostly dried me up and took care of most of the itching and sneezing. Unfortunately not enough for happiness and outdoor freedom. So I'm back to generic-Zyrtec, which takes care of my itching, sneezing, and dripping, but unfortunately leaves me drowsy also. I try not to use caffeine most ... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 21:34:14 EST My exercise deck, and other things. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4812785 Hi.

I used my exercise deck today. I did about ten cards, I think. I did enough of each card to feel the burn a bit, which varies widely in duration/reps/sets. I don't want to get too sore, so I didn't push it real hard. But the cards work great! I can really mix it up with these. At some point I think I will add some basic yoga sequences in--not just a single pose per card, but maybe three or four to make a reasonable sequence. Let's face it, doing two to five minutes of just one ... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 20:34:44 EST Fitdeck http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4810927 Hi.

I got interested again in fitdeck and other methods of using cards to make a workout. But I just can't stomach paying $50 for all the decks I'm interested in, I'm just too cheap.

So I made my own. I have made 30 cards so far using exercises and instructions found on SparkPeople and a few other websites. Because I'm grabbing screencaps and using the descriptions verbatim, it's not something I can share with anyone else--copyright violations, you know. But I can descri... Thu, 29 Mar 2012 15:23:35 EST C25K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4808107 I did week 1 day 1 of Couch-to-5K. Also did a couple minutes on my kids' hula hoop. I want a hoop of my own, sized for me, I think, with nice grippy tape to help me keep the hoop going.

My feet are complaining after the walk/run. Tue, 27 Mar 2012 11:54:18 EST Not exactly the first week of January http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2898726 Hi.

So I said in an earlier blog I'd be back around the first week of January. Well, no. Big project at work went live on Jan 11, so the last week before and the month since have sucked mightily.

My old nemesis poor sleep returned with a vengeance. And I went shopping the other day for a few hours and realized my low back is deteriorating with lack of exercise. So Tuesday I got out BL again and signed up for a new 4 week challenge (I have a business trip the 5th week, so... Thu, 18 Feb 2010 16:57:05 EST Shopping http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2632118 Hi.

I just *had* to post about this, it's so cool!

So I live a completely sedentary livestyle--or I did before October, anyway. Now I do BL for wii three or four times a week. Not exactly on par with folks who lift or run or whatever for hours a day, but still a big change from before.

I was doing the exercise so my metabolism wouldn't hibernate the way it's done on past diets, and that's been good. I also knew I was getting stronger and more able, and also fe... Mon, 14 Dec 2009 06:31:48 EST Vacation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2606520 Hi.

I've been taking an almost vacation from SP. I come in and read a little, but haven't written a blog or logged my food in days.

I've been pretty good, even without the logging. I've logged my food so many times over the years I'm pretty good at keeping on track without recording the numbers. But I get really tired of trying to figure out how many calories are in homemade stuffing, for example. Just a PITA during the holidays, so Pfft.

I reached the end of... Thu, 3 Dec 2009 07:48:00 EST Skinny Jeans http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2579590 Hi.

On a whim yesterday I grabbed the skinny jeans from the bottom shelf and put them on. I had put them down there because they were too uncomfortable to wear. I have a sit down job, and they were cutting me in half. They're the same size as the rest of the jeans, supposedly, but they sure didn't fit the same. Anyway, they fit me perfectly now, and all my other jeans are baggy. I had a couple pair that were 'loose/comfortable' before I started, and those are tent-like now. Woohoo!... Sat, 21 Nov 2009 21:20:59 EST BL Challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2575373 Hi.

Did my BL challenge today. My second time doing the Light Cycle. I was first right up til the end and then came in second. Ah well. It was football runs and tire runs, which are a little tough for me to sustain. But I did pretty good.

I cranked widgets all day long at work, and noticed that my right arm and hand are not too happy with the whole mousing thing right now. Getting some sore places. Need to adjust my position or something. I've had tendinitis and bursitis... Thu, 19 Nov 2009 20:44:29 EST Stoked http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2568663 Hi.

Haven't posted in a few days. There's nothing really going on to keep me away, just haven't felt like saying much lately.

These days, I find I am almost constantly stoked about my progress. Today the scale went down another pound, and I looked at my ticker and realized I'm just about half-way to my first goal! Woohoo!

The saltmonster still annoys me from time to time, but I have a little more faith these days that Salt is Temporary. 41
<BR... Tue, 17 Nov 2009 11:52:45 EST 10 lbs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2554618 Hi.

So today I hit the 10 lbs lost mark, since a few weeks before I started SP. It's been 6 lbs since I started SP.

I'm happy.

Sucks, though, because I have a cold right now. I have a feeling that all the nose-blowing is changing my water balance. I'm drinking extra, I think (not tracking it especially well, though).

Tonight I made a stir fry with some distinctly non-standard veggies--at least for me. We got a baby pac choi from the CSA, and another... Wed, 11 Nov 2009 21:55:55 EST Take *that*, Saltmonster! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2542688 Hi.

So yesterday I didn't eat as much salt as the previous four days, even with a stop at Chick Fil A last night. And, as expected, the water left in a hurry. This morning I was *two* pounds lighter than yesterday, achieving a new low of 166.8.

I must admit, I was worried this week. The water retention made me doubt that I really have found the magic this time. It made me think that this was just like all the other times, where I'd had good success the first week or two,... Sat, 7 Nov 2009 19:20:54 EST Unintended consequences http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2540682 Hi.

So here's a tip. If you take medicines of any kind on a daily basis, find out from the doc which ones have diuretic effects (even if that's not what they're for) and then DON'T TAKE THOSE AT BEDTIME!!!

Ugh. I've had crappy sleep now for 5 years straight, and come to find out today one of my medicines that I've been taking at bedtime is a diuretic. No wonder I have to get up in the middle of the night to pee!!

*sigh* I'm gonna start taking it in the morning... Fri, 6 Nov 2009 20:10:49 EST Batteries http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2538256 Hi.

So I was reading another person's blog, sympathizing with the rough day she was having yesterday, when I realized that I was having kind of a rough day today..

The early morning wasn't too awful. I woke up a couple of times during the night, as usual, but I felt decent getting up. Got the kids dressed with only minor fighting with my daughter. Food was a little tougher, but eventually everyone got breakfast.

Then the battery died in the van. DH usually tak... Thu, 5 Nov 2009 21:38:32 EST Salty and sore http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2529115 Hi.

Yep, the saltmonster got me again, to the tune of another extra pound. Wow! But tonight I'm not on salt overload, so tomorrow morning should be a lot better.

Made collards tonight, tried something with a higher ratio of collards to other stuff. An onion, two small bell peppers, a little red wine, a can of diced tomatoes.. It was OK, but I was wishing for some stronger flavors. While that was cooking, I put some tilapia on top to steam in the same pot. That worked out... Mon, 2 Nov 2009 20:51:10 EST Ack! The salt monster's got me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2523809 Hi.

Yah, I had my beloved Pho last night for dinner, and that *always* puffs me up the next day. So I have an extra pound of water stuck to me right now. Oh well, it'll come off today or tomorrow. Pizza friday didn't help either.

Yesterday I did good on the food front, other than the salt level. I didn't eat any halloween candy. We went to the circus and I didn't have any cotton candy or other junk. I didn't really intend not to have any junk yesterday, it just worked ou... Sun, 1 Nov 2009 07:52:22 EST More.. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2522344 Hi.

So I won my BL4Wii challenge yesterday, by a huge margin. Made me feel good. Today it gave me a light Yoga workout. Light by its standards, of course. I was sweating and working hard on those moves. But I noticed a second icon on the calendar...the 'additional exercise' doodad where you plug in how much exercise you've done *outside* the game. And this time, that doodad said it wanted me to do 35 minutes of exercise outside the game. *blink*

35 minutes more, after I'... Sat, 31 Oct 2009 12:32:00 EST You know what? It's working! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2516973 Hi.

So I've dieted a zillion times before, starting around 1981. I wasn't fat in elementary school, but as the only child of a single parent, when she went on a diet, so did I.

I remember a computer diet in 5th grade where we put in the vegetables we liked and it would come up with a meal plan and amounts. I also remember a beet diet, where you could eat pretty much anything you wanted, but you had to eat beets at every meal. And the only way my mom could stomach them w... Thu, 29 Oct 2009 08:09:38 EST Points http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2504950 Hi.

So when I post this, I'm going to earn a new trophy for my points. I'm one point under right now, and the blog earns 3.

The whole points thing is weird. I get it that you earn points for educating yourself, or for encouraging others or seeking support.. Some of the stuff, like 'huddling' seems a little more ..hm.. what's the word.. artificial? Would anyone actually 'huddle' if it didn't earn points?

I dunno. On the one hand, getting close to another trophy... Sat, 24 Oct 2009 17:16:47 EST Veggies galore http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2503399 Hi.

So today I decided to get the veggies I didn't have last night. Actually, the decision was to have pasta even though we don't have any spaghetti sauce.

So, there were two cans of diced tomatoes and a can of tomato sauce, all with herbs. OK, but not enough.

Hmm. So there were collard greens sitting there, and apples, and garlic, all from the CSA (a farm near us that we 'subscribe' to). And then there were bell peppers and yellow banana peppers from our gard... Fri, 23 Oct 2009 22:27:54 EST Oink http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2500748 Hi.

So tonight DH wanted to try a mexican restaurant we haven't been to before. The Clipper magazine came today and there were coupons, so we decided to try it.

So if you've been to a mexican restaurant in this country, you pretty much know the pattern. This place had a few things that were different--four different kinds of salsas to go with the basket of chips, some ceviche, some mole--but otherwise it was the same pattern as most other mexican restaurants.

... Thu, 22 Oct 2009 20:47:54 EST Pain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2488903 Hi.

Yeah, so yesterday I had a migraine. I slept a little late, woke up feeling decent, and then shortly before I intended to head for the shower, I noticed a spot in my vision. It reminds me of 'the nothing' from the Neverending Story. If I look at the spot, it slides away and lands somewhere else. The docs call it an 'aura' and it's always first in my particular combo of headache symptoms.

So I tried to get a few things done at a frantic pace before the pain set in. Gr... Sun, 18 Oct 2009 19:29:29 EST Challenge! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2484864 Hi.

So I'm telling everyone I see that I won the challenge today in the Biggest Loser game for Wii. Well, there's more to it.

See, last night I had trouble getting to sleep because I was annoyed about work stuff. And then around 2am, some joker peels out in his car somewhere nearby, squealing his tires. Woke me up, I was halfway across the room before I even realized what was happening. I walked around, trying to figure out what the source of the noise was (I didn't rea... Fri, 16 Oct 2009 21:27:28 EST Agony and Sloth http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2482435 Hi.

Yeah, so work is getting massively stupid right now. The project is behind and management is trying to change the schedule so it'll work. There are bugs in the software which have been patched in a version that just came out, but they won't let us upgrade to get the fixes because we need to take some time and it's time we don't have. Blah blah blah. It's happened over and over and over. And let's not forget that corporate has decreed we have to use up some of our accrued vacati... Thu, 15 Oct 2009 21:36:46 EST Me, with less hair http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2477035 Hi.

Got a hair cut today. I think the shortest pieces she removed were 4 or 5 inches long. Now I have a layered do with bangs, something relatively fresh, unlike the long limp stuff I was wearing yesterday.

I wonder if the weight of all that hair would have registered on my scale. It weighs in tenths of a pound, so I suppose it's possible. Kinda cheating, I guess. :)

Anyway, the Biggest Loser said I didn't have to do cardio today, which was kind of a relief be... Tue, 13 Oct 2009 21:03:14 EST Getting to know Hunger http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2473800 Hi.

So I'm back to restricting my calories by counting them. For the last month, before starting SP, I was just trying to eat reasonably. It worked, I lost about 4 lbs before I started SP just cutting back. But I wasn't working very hard on it, and I wasn't going any kind of fast with it, and I wasn't exercising either.

Something about counting my food makes me ravenously hungry even if I'm not actually changing anything (my perception). Of course, I obviously DO change ... Mon, 12 Oct 2009 19:04:28 EST The Biggest Loser for Wii http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2469581 Hi.

So I've been flirting again with the idea of getting serious. Signed up for SP on a whim, been reading and earning spark points for this and that. Logged my food for a couple of days. Dipping a toe in the water.

I thought about getting back started with exercise. I got the wii originally to help me out with that. I thought the wii fit would be addictive and that I'd have an urge to go back to it and continue..but it was too slow. Too much time between exercises, too ... Sun, 11 Oct 2009 08:58:02 EST Shredded Pork Enchiladas http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2465215 Hi.

So yesterday's featured recipe on this site was chicken enchiladas. It was a pretty simple recipe, and I happened to see it just before lunch. So I checked out what I had in the fridge and freezer--no chicken breasts, alas. But I *did* have thick-cut pork loin chops, boneless.

So I checked another cookbook I have for slow cookers to see if they had any recipes for pork chops so I could get the right timing. They did! So over lunch I took the basic chicken enchilada r... Fri, 9 Oct 2009 09:09:05 EST
