SHOAPIE's SparkPeople Blog SHOAPIE's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Birthday Yesterday was my birthday. The big 60! I can hardly believe it, but am not bothered by it. Was having a great day until I got home and saw my cat lying listlessly on the rug. I knew he was old and wouldn't last long as he had already shown signs of impending death. I am grateful that I was able to be with him as he took his last few breaths and then quietly died as I held and petted him. He was 19 1/2 years old. Very old for a cat. Did put a damper on my birthday celebration. I will ... Wed, 1 Aug 2012 21:46:48 EST @#*&% lawn mower Had problems starting my lawn mower last year, SIL came over and got it going. Said it was probably flooded. So of course it wouldn't start again this year so the neighbor came over and started it, said it needed more gas. Can't win, what's a woman to do? Can't wait til next year to see what happens. 46 Mon, 23 Apr 2012 22:07:57 EST most unusual flower girl My nephew got married this weekend to his long time girlfriend. My 5 1/2 y.r. old grandson was the ring bearer(and so adorable was he!). The flower girl was their cat! They both did very well altho Spring did have to stop periodically to check things out. Victor(my grandson) had to lure her down the aisle with a kitty treat and then turned to face everybody with a great big smile on his face. He is such a ham and is enjoyed by every one in the family! 81 (grandma bursting with p... Mon, 9 Aug 2010 18:44:24 EST Long time coming! I recently had my 2 year sparversary and I certainly have come a long way from last year. My weight is down 23# My cholesterol level continues to go down while my HDL has risen and my LDL is down. 244 I am consistently doing cardio and strength training and actually have bicep muscle definition! I am down 2 clothes sizes! Unfortunately I didn't do any measurements so I don't know how many inches have been lost but it is a lot. I like what I see in the mirror! 344 No I ... Mon, 2 Aug 2010 18:38:06 EST Another milestone reached! Finally out of the 150's and into the 140's. Slowly but surely am getting to my goal. Each milestone achieved gives me renewed enthusiasm to reach my goal. Thanks to all spark friends who have kept me focused and motivated. 9 Sat, 26 Dec 2009 10:21:43 EST So excited! My size 12 pants have been fitting really loose but I have been really nervous about trying my 10's on for fear that they wouldn't fit. I finally got up enough courage and found that they fit perfectly. WooHoo! Another goal met. I can do this even tho it has been slower going than I would like. Patience Dona, patience! Tue, 15 Dec 2009 16:28:50 EST raking leaves As I was raking leaves today I began to reminisce about how we used to play in the leaves as kids while raking them. First we raked them into walls for our "house". We started with the kitchen then the living room followed by the bedrooms and finally the bathroom. After that was all done then we played house for awhile. As the oldest I was always the mother. My brother was the father and my sister was the baby. Some times the neighborhood kids joined in with us. What a "family" we had ... Sun, 8 Nov 2009 18:55:30 EST Granddaughterisms Well since Monday when all was right with the world it has done nothing but rain and be cold! I'm trying not to complain about the weather because it is going to be a long cold winter and it hasn't even started. So last nIght I had my children and grandchildren over for supper and you know how children say the darnedest things and last night was no different This time it was my grandaughter who will be 3 on Monday. We had salad and she wanted frutons on hers. We had dinner rolls and I sa... Thu, 22 Oct 2009 18:37:33 EST I feel great! I'm on vacation, the sun is shining and it is in the 60's. What a fabulous start to my staycation. Was out all afternoon raking and bagging leaves. Also was trimming trees and tying them up so they can be picked up this week. Lots of great exercise and time spent outside. Oh, also listening to great music on my iPod shuffle. I hope time slows to a crawl this week. Tomorrow should be great too. Mon, 19 Oct 2009 18:29:20 EST staycation I'm on vacation this week but am not going any where. I'm planning on getting plenty of exercise while doing yard work( if the weather cooperates with me!). I love raking but hate bagging the leaves! And when the weather doesn't cooperate there is always plenty to do in the house. Have some grandchildren time blocked out too of course! Time will of course fly by but hope to get in some reading too. Tomorrow is of course reserved for football. Go Packers! Sat, 17 Oct 2009 21:23:53 EST Need sun! This cold, dreary, rainy weather is getting to me! I need some sun. I'm starting to feel depressed and without any motivation. I can handle the cold but boy do I NEED some sun! I hope some arrives soon before I lose my mind. On a lighter note yesterday was oldest grandsons 5th birthday. Party is tonight and I can hardly wait! I love his enthusiasm and zest for life and I need a dose! 30 67 44 179 19 Fri, 9 Oct 2009 15:46:38 EST Time flies Where does the time go? Seems like I just started Sept. and already it is gone. Why does time go by so fast now when as a kid it seemed to drag? I want my life to slow down to a crawl again! 183 Tue, 29 Sep 2009 22:19:09 EST Big Step I am out of the 160's and into the 150's finally. It's taken months but I finally did it. I am so thrilled. Haven't seen the 150's in probably about 18 months! Now to get out of the 150's. Yeah. Wed, 23 Sep 2009 20:03:31 EST Back among the living I was sooo sick Sunday late eve til Tuesday eve! Today I feel alive again. I can eat without gagging and I can move without Hurting. Yay for return of usual good health. Tomorrow I can return to some exercising again. It's been a while since I felt that way. Good health to all. Dona Wed, 16 Sep 2009 22:10:07 EST Grandchildren I consider myself one of the luckiest people in the world having all 4 of my grandbabies within 15 miles and being able to see all of them at least once a week! Having said that I must admit I am really enjoying time to myself this afternoon after having had all of them at different times and in different combinations since Thurs. afternoon til this AM. I should really sleep well without having to worry about any of them waking up and having to go to the bathroom or falling out of bed! And... Sun, 13 Sep 2009 19:54:58 EST nutrition tracker I am off today so am tracking my food. I realize as I enter more and add to my favorites it will get easier but still is so time consuming that I feel like I am on the computer all day. Okay so I am exaggerating some! But it is my blog after all, so I feel entitled. Bear with me as I gripe my way through this. Hopefully I will have this out of my system soon. Now I'm off for a long walk. 246 198 Thanks for listening. Tue, 1 Sep 2009 19:07:26 EST hanging in there I still don't have my eating under as good of control as I would want but I continue to hang in there and try to make as many good choices as possible. I always try to get all of my fruits and vegetables in. Snacking is still a problem especally making correct choices and contolling portions! But I will not give up! I know I would do better using the nutrition tracker and I'm going to try no matter much I hate doing it. 104 Mon, 31 Aug 2009 20:53:59 EST frustrated I'm so tired of losing and gaining the same 2-3lbs. I haven't seen any progress in weeks. I'm not giving up tho! I should track my food but hate to do it! Sometimes I forget what I eat when I'm at work and then it seems pointless to track when it is incomplete. It is much easier to track fitness minutes so I keep up with that but need to figure out an easier way to track nutrition! Please help. Dona 39 4 Fri, 28 Aug 2009 21:03:32 EST Spark friends I love my spark friends but am disappointed that not one wanted to clean my litter boxes. 20 But seriously I really do enjoy my spark friends and enjoy learning from each and every one of you(and you all know who you are). You keep me coming back every day even when I am not doing so well with this life style change especially the weight loss part. Reminds every day to keep at it. Some day it too will come. 211 Thu, 27 Aug 2009 20:13:05 EST cats I love my cats but hate to clean their litter boxes. Wish it was a job that could be hired out. Anyone interested? 239 Wed, 26 Aug 2009 20:46:21 EST biking I've been trying to do more biking. It's not like when I was a kid and I could go forever and even let go of the handlebars! But I've been working on going longer each time I go, Now if I could only develop some callouses on my bum! Then maybe I could go forever. 246 108 Sun, 23 Aug 2009 21:28:10 EST I-pod shuffle For my birthday my children got me an I-pod shuffle and I finally got it loaded with fast paced music. I went for a walk with it last night and the music really helped me to pickup and maintain a fast pace. Worked just as I had hoped it would. Currently has about 5 hours of music. That should help me to keep going. Maybe even be able to add some short bursts of running. 30 Sat, 22 Aug 2009 18:39:47 EST kick in the pants Boy do I need a kick in the pants! Can't seem to get motivated to exercise and when I do it seems halfhearted! It feels like work is dragging me down. Can't seem to control what goes in my mouth, eating but not finding what I want so keep searching. Hope tomorrow brings renewed vigor and determination. Now I'm out the door to at least walk! 234 Fri, 21 Aug 2009 19:33:02 EST Loud, fast paced music Yesterday I was really feeling down. With encouragement from spark friends, I was able to finally go to my sure fire cure for the doldrums. I filled the CD player with my favorite loud, fast paced music. . That was enough to get me moving. I cleaned house and mowed the lawn. That feeling of accomplishment really brought me out of my funk! Today I'm still using my "cure". Mon, 10 Aug 2009 16:14:33 EST Happy birthday to me. Am I any further ahead than a year ago? My weight wentup from original posting but I have succeeded in losing that and more. Yay for me! I have continued to increase excerise minutes altho I can sporadic at this. With coming year I will continue to lose weight and become more consistent with exercise. Wish me the best. 104 9 Fri, 31 Jul 2009 11:38:34 EST Jogging Going to give jogging a try again. Haven't tried for years, but now I live by a high school track, about a 5 min. walk away which will be a great warm up and cool down. Wish me lots of luck and success.
