My primary home (ie, where I spend most of time) is a small condo with no yard to call my own, but plenty of sunshine. Last week, my precious Sophie (2 1/2 year old granddaughter) and I potted a couple of tomatoes and some herbs. She is my BEST helper! I used some of the herbs in our Mother's Day lunch. She was very proud of this fact!

<img src=" Fri, 16 May 2014 12:05:08 EST It Wasn't Meant to Be In April of 2013, my dear husband gave me a weekend in NYC for my birthday. However, the Saturday before the weekend we had booked, my precious father died. We had insurance on the Broadway tickets and were reimbursed. We sent a copy of Daddy's obituary to the airline and were given a year to use those tickets.

The year was about to escape us, but we man... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 10:43:36 EST Fresh Produce - Can't Let It Go To Waste! I must have been hungry when I visited some local farmers' markets last week. I brought home way more produce than my husband and I could possibly eat before it became overly ripe. Wed, 22 May 2013 10:39:56 EST Difficulty Staying on Track I'm in the middle of a wicked (ly fun) schedule that is making it very difficult to stay on an exercise regimen. As most of you know, I spend every other week at my parents' home, alternating a week of in-home assistance with my sister. My past 2 "at home" weeks have been spent with my daughter, who had a c-section on April 24th (gifting me with my second granddaughter). I'm with my parents this week, then will be splitting the following week between NYC (my birthday present) and the beach w... I did a rare and stupid thing yesterday. Coming in late from my week with my parents, I found myself hungry, tired and a little irritable. I opened the pantry, fridge and freezer to find a snack. In the freezer was an unopened container of Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream that had been bought for dessert when we had friends over for dinner a month ago. What did I do? I opened it. Sat, 23 Mar 2013 20:54:48 EST Finally took my Christmas present out for a spin! We made our traditional trek to the beach to watch the ACC basketball tournament this past weekend . Sadly, my Tarheels lost in the final game to Miami. BUT! we made it to the final game!

This is the first opportunity - weatherwise - that we have had to take our bikes down since November. Mon, 18 Mar 2013 12:25:32 EST Don't Sell Yourself Short Last week found me at the beach again. I went down to do a "little" painting a few days before the rest of the family joined me to celebrate our son's birthday.

I have a tendency to be overly ambitious, coupled with the tendency to underestimate how long things take - be it errands, projects, chores, etc. When packing for my trip, I estimated that I could accomplish all my painting (2 pieces of furniture, a hallway and a bedroom) in 2 - 1/2 days, leaving me a free day to play befor... I've been working a training program I found online, and prepping myself mentally. I also researched tri gear on-line and ordered myself some shorts and a "bikini top" (their name for it, not mine. I admire those of you who maintain your outdoor activities year-round. I thought I would try it this winter, but find it is just so much more enjoyable for me to head to the bicycle trainer and the treadmill when the temperature goes below 50 degrees. Call me a wimp, but I get my money's worth for the annual Y membership from late November through April.

That is not to say that I do not enjoy being outside during the winter! In fact, I love the great outdoors all year. I just fin... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 10:20:20 EST Yo-yo, yet another reason not to... I've just returned from a long weekend at the beach. Unfortunately, I tend to undo the mega walks around the island (or cycling when weather permits) with overeating at our favorite restaurants (the BEST key lime pie at this place, the BEST pineapple/coconut sauce over salmon at the other place, etc. etc. etc.) Thankfully, our favorite ice cream shop was closed for the season :)

When I got home, I caught up on the local news by reviewing all the papers that accumulated in the yard ... Between my "1/2 life" (week at home, week at parents) and the holiday hubbub (plus the changeable weather), I've been unable to maintain an exercise routine. Thu, 20 Dec 2012 17:30:20 EST A Most Colorful Wog We had a beautiful day in the NC Piedmont! Fri, 23 Nov 2012 20:24:34 EST More Than One Way to Skin a Cat Having recently joined the Cycling Spark Team, I found myself running out of time to meet the 20 miles/month team goal. With the month drawing to an end, I knew I was short of the goal. Here in piedmont NC, we suffered only minor symptoms (bless you, our Northeastern friends!) spawned by Sandy - ie, wind and a drop in temperature. I was waiting and hoping for a good riding day before month's end, however, the wind continued today - the last day to get in the necessary-goal-meeting-miles. So,... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 20:27:00 EST And the Beat Goes On After 2 days of busy-ness I hit the old wogging trail again. This was my 4th or 5th time going to this particular place. I decided to take "the road less travelled" and ended up first at a large uncrossable creek. I backtracked until I came to a split in the path. I took the one I had not come in on, which led to a footbridge across the creek. On the other side of the bridge, I turned in the direction that ... Fri, 24 Aug 2012 15:58:02 EST Lost in Translation Today I hit the road for my jog for the first time since "the incident" on the treadmill back in July. The heat and humidity have kept me inside for lo these many weeks. I was very curious and expectant to see if my non-stop running on the treadmill would translate to the open road. I've been diligent about setting a variable grade course on the treadmill, knowing my chosen courses outside were anything but flat.

Well, it didn't translate. I have not been plugged in to the internet. I hope you are all well.

I continue to look for ways to exercise when away from home (which is at least every other week). Sun, 15 Apr 2012 19:21:42 EST Time to Get Real Okay. Confession time. I've been making very feeble attempts to lose weight. I have been logging my intake, avoiding most sugars, drinking primarily water and black decaf coffee, and exercising. However, I have NOT cut back calories. I've deluded myself with the aforementioned feeble attempts, trying to convince myself that I'm on a weight loss plan, but knowing in my heart of hearts that I'm not.

SOOOO, beginning right now, I'm committing to you, my SP friends, that that is all ... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 13:37:54 EST Finally! At last! I ran today, albeit on the treadmill and alternating walking and running. It felt wonderful to perspire 198 .
It has been a month since I had to lay off due to ankle injuries. Hallelujah, there was absolutely no pain today! I won't be able to participate in the race I was training for, but I'm okay with that. Sat, 31 Mar 2012 14:53:04 EST R-I-C-E is Nice Well, after a week and 1/2 of "rice-ing" my ankles (rest, ice, compression, and elevation), I'm almost ready to hit the pavement again. After the 3 mile walk/run last Monday, my Charlie Chaplin gait seemed here to stay, accompanied by severe pain and swelling. What I thought were just normal aches and pains turned out to be real injuries. I felt like I had taken 1 step forward in my fitness goals, and 3 steps backward. Mon, 5 Mar 2012 17:06:03 EST A Day Made in (Carolina Blue) Heaven Yesterday began somewhat drearily with a cold drizzle early in the gray morning. I had committed to work an aid station for a 1/2 marathon training session. Thankfully, the rain stopped before I left the house. I passed part of the running group as I was headed to the station site. How could I grumble - snug in my sweatshirt and hoodie - about a cold drizzle that they were running 14 miles in?!?!?! I met some great people working the station. In addition to gaining new friends, I also gained... Sun, 4 Mar 2012 15:48:02 EST Aches and Pains and Fatigue, Oh My! Oh my, indeed!
