SHERYL_B's SparkPeople Blog SHERYL_B's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Tri today! Wow! What a great race today at the KVR Dam Challenge! Everything for the last two weeks (3 chiro appt in a week, high ibuprofen intake the last 8 days, moving, and just stress in general) felt like I should just skip it, but I've wanted to do this race for three years. I am so glad I did. No pain today (except expected sore muscles from the race) AND I met all my goals for the race - except that one about not getting off the bike going up hills, but 75% of the people around me were wal... Wow have a lot of things changed since I last blogged!

I have been going to school for my Masters. In fact I took three classes over the summer - I do NOT recommend that!!!

I ran my first half marathon in May. I met my goal of under 3 hours, but would have done a lot better if I hadn't gotten sick during the run. I've learned my lesson and Imodium is my friend!

I was also set up on a semi-blind date and we have now been together more than 3 months! Conside... It is going to be crazy!!!!

I am working on getting all my personal stuff organized today. I have ignored it the last couple of weeks and won't get back to it over the next couple of weeks.

I am working tomorrow. Sun, 26 Aug 2012 10:23:47 EST 25th Reunion Had a great time at the reunion this weekend. There were a lot of classmates missing, but those of us that were there had a great time.

Here I am before heading out.

Sat, 18 Aug 2012 22:14:30 EST Running / Walking in God's Country Although I am not sure about running, I have always been a walker. I love living here. It is called God’s Country and I so agree! I grew up in Northern Illinois and moved here about 10 years ago. My daughter and I have traveled all over the country. Whenever we come home I am always amazed at how beautiful it is. I love the rolling hills and all the trees. I appreciate the work that the farmers do – both land and cows. They do a ton of work, more than I could handle.

Here is... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 14:38:40 EST I give all you long distance runners out there credit! 37 days until my Tough Mudder.

I want to give all runners, especially half and full marathoners and tri-athletes props. I know all of us have different things we like and that is what makes each of us unique. I don’t know how you manage to run as much as needed to train for your races though.

I am running and doing strength training in order to be able to do the obstacles, but I am in no way training for a half marathon. I just want to know the distance isn’t going to ... Fri, 3 Aug 2012 11:23:01 EST Suggestions needed for uses for my new watch Thanks to the wellness program at work, I won a new watch. Sun, 29 Jul 2012 19:15:07 EST I need suggestions for a smoothie maker! My off brand magic bullet died yesterday. It was a hand me down from my mom, so I definitely got my money's worth. However, now that I know how much I love it I need to go buy a new one.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've looked online.

The least expensive that had decent reviews was this hamilton beach one from Walmart for $16, but it isn't dishwasher safe which does not work for me.

ngle-Serve-Blender-With-Tr... Sat, 28 Jul 2012 15:21:26 EST The light is definently getting brighter! As a summary, I have been sick the last two weeks. Not quite sure what's been wrong, just really tired and weak. I've been to the doctor, had blood drawn twice, and been to the chiropractor twice.

Wednesday was a better day, but the. Yesterday wasn't the best. Today started really slow. My mom invited me to breakfast with her and my dad, but with my lack of focus I really needed to go to work. They surprised me by bringing me biscuits and gravy! Yum! Not something I normally ... Sat, 21 Jul 2012 00:00:08 EST I see a light, I wonder if it will get brighter or fade away I had my alarm set to get up and workout this morning, but after getting up and brushing my teeth, I was light headed so I thought an hour and a half of sleep was more important than the workout.

It was a good decision because after 6 hours at work, I gave in and came home. I even requested intermittent FMLA before I left so that I will be able to leave early during the week if I get tired. I even thought of just bringing my sleeping bag to work in case I need a nap during the day... Mon, 16 Jul 2012 20:06:48 EST Feeling sorry for myself. I thank the Lord for my good health, I know there are many others out there that have much worse problems than I do. However, this last week and a half has been draining, not only physically, but mentally.

It is driving me crazy that I have no concentration or energy. All I want to do is sleep.

Went to the doctor and the best they could determine was low iron (which I have always had). I haven't even moved into the anemic category, just low iron.

I have bee... Sat, 14 Jul 2012 18:27:54 EST Tough Mudder training plan cbudack and I am doing the WI Tough Mudder in September. I have been focused on this in the back of my mind for the last few months while working out, but it is now 3 months to the race and time to buckle down and focus.

One thing I have decided is I am really glad we are doing the WI race in Sept instead of the MN race they had in May. Now I can run outside and work out at the playground, where it would have been too cold to do that in prep for May.

I did some surfing... Sat, 9 Jun 2012 13:24:17 EST Like / dislike; successes / opportunities to improve; yin /yang So, obviously the stress of my daughter moving and her graduation party tomorrow is affecting me more than I thought it was. I woke up this morning at 4:30 and at 4:45, accepted that I wasn't going to fall back asleep. 24

So, I turned it into a positive. I was hoping to squeeze in a 15 minute HIIT, but with the extra time I managed to do s90 chest/back, TF HIIT 15, TF 30 min cardio, AND 10 min stretch. 198

I am feeling much better about this upcomi... Fri, 1 Jun 2012 08:14:37 EST Time isn't the best indicator - my opinion on turbofire Whew! I just finished turbofire HIIT15. I think this is my favorite workout, at least until tomorrow when I do a different turbofire workout. 198

I have been doing some of the longer workouts in order to burn those nasty calories I've been taking in due to graduation parties. Today, I only had time for a short workout so I choose HIIT15.

I think this video is way more intense than the HIIT25 video. This one has 9 series instead of 8 and only 3 variations ins... Thu, 31 May 2012 08:24:14 EST 265 minutes of TurboFire this weekend! Trying to keep ahead of the calorie intake. Whew!! I am so glad this weekend is over! Four days of graduation food!

I am NOT good at controlling my intake of food at parties, so instead of fighting it, I pushed my body to burn extra each day before I started eating.

Friday - Finished Supreme 90 round 2 by doing Cardio Challenge and then a 15 minute TurboFire HIIT workout. Graduation picnic with lots of taffy apple salad (apples good, snickers bad).

Saturday - TurboFire 25 minute HIIT; 45 min Cardio, ... Mon, 28 May 2012 21:44:40 EST Sun Goddess vs Troll I had planned to workout for a good hour this morning.

I did today's Supreme90 workout (one week until round 2 is done!!!) and then started doing some strength traing, but the lure of the warm ai outside was too much for me.

I decided that even though my goal was some high calorie burn today, I wasn't going to get there by working out in the basement feeling like a troll.

Instead, I decided to be a sun goddess and walk. My trade off was that I would do 6 mile... Sat, 19 May 2012 17:43:21 EST When I do an arm workout I'm good, but when I do any other workout my arms feel like they are going I am doing supreme 90 for the second time (less than two weeks left!) I know I am pushing my weight limits more this time than I did last time. In fact I have to get some heavier weights.

I have been creative with the 10, 5, 3, and 2 pound weights I have, but I can tell I should be going heavier for my swing throughs and some other exercises. Any suggestions on where to get some less expensive weights? I've been watching Craig's list and such, but haven't found anything.
... Sun, 13 May 2012 22:39:47 EST Why do my daughter and I start really connecting just when she is ready to move out? My daughter is graduating from high school in two weeks and will be moving out June 1. I am very excited for her.

We had a rough few years of high school, but the last year she has just bloomed. Last spring she decided what she wanted to do after high school and got her self signed up for the program which has a year waiting list so that she would be able to enter the program when she graduated.

This year she has had a better than 3.0 each quarter (this is a girl that... Fri, 11 May 2012 20:11:37 EST My first official 5k I did my first official 5 k today! 36.12 minutes. I have run faster, but considering it was cold and sleeting, I was happy with that time.

Again, I have confirmed that racing doesn't get me excited. I completed the race, but I wasn't excited about it either during or after it.

After the race I went to the state AAU gymnastics meet to watch Cocoa-Jumbo's daughter compete. Make sure to send her your congrats as her daughter is state floor champion and placed 2 nd for ... Tue, 24 Apr 2012 21:08:10 EST I am still here! Need feedback on running music. I am still here, just not enough time to blog. I have been keeping up with everyone, so I don't feel like I am missing anything. I do know that blogging helps me stay on track, but reading how my sprakfriends are doing is more importnat to me.

So, here is my question - where can you go find out what pace music is for running? I don't have a great playlist right now (as I've just started the outside running). I am an 80's hairband girl.
Any suggestions? Sun, 15 Apr 2012 21:07:32 EST Easter brunch was yummy. Not going to even think about the calories. I knew we were going out for brunch today, so I curbed calories last week (plus saved a bunch since Friday was a fasting day).

It was a good thing. The food was delicious, you could tell they used cream and real cheese!

My favorite was a crepe/billini (or whatever the Italians cal those thin pancakes) with shrimp and scallops in a creamy cheese sauce! Melted in your mouth!

My second favorite was a chicken breast in a portobello mushroom sauce. A close secon... Sun, 8 Apr 2012 21:46:08 EST Fitness guilt - or - People actually take rest days? I got up yesterday and knew it was a rest day on the Supreme 90 schedule - which I interpret as I get to choose my workout for the day.

I was not in the mood to run but I said, just do the first leg which is about a mile and see how you feel. If you are done, then quit. I was planning on coming home and doing turboscuplt which I haven't done in FOREVER!

I got to the end of the block and it was cold and really windy. I didn't even do the mile, just ran/walked around th... I only had one meeting scheduled tonight, so I should have had plenty of time to workout.

Of course, I got involved with a project and ended up leaving work later than I planned. I got home at 5:24 and had to be at the high school (a block away) at 6:00.

I threw in the Cardio Challenge to que up while I changed clothes. I skipped the warm up (believe me my adrenaline was already flow... Mon, 26 Mar 2012 20:35:18 EST Love going to my local electronics sore / video rental place (ie Dad's house) My dvd player in my basement (where I workout) died a couple of weeks ago and I've been having to workout in my living room. That means being careful about my jumps and such so I don't knock over any knick knacks and such.

So, I went to my parent's house. My dad is a huge movie freak, so they always have new equipment and I knew I would be able to find an old dvd player there that worked.

Not only did a get a dvd player, but I came home with a blueray. Now I think I n... Sun, 25 Mar 2012 15:21:35 EST Update on yesterday's chicken stock episode and supreme 90 update too Got up this morning and was not in the mood to do supreme 90. I checked to see which workout was scheduled for today - cardio challenge - sometimes I think this is my least favorite s90 workout.

Since it is a cardio day, I decided not to run (any excuse not to run makes that an easy decision for me) and to do 20 minutes of turbo jam and an jam in addition to cardio challenge.

I puttered around before getting ready to workout and then realized I was delaying the workout ... Sat, 24 Mar 2012 15:36:44 EST Chicken stock just ruined my day! Last week, the spark newsletter had a chef Mel recipe for vegetable risotto.

l.asp?recipe=1262041
Spinach and mushroom and brown rice, yum!!!!

I finally got to the store last night to get the ingredients (including the squash). I have been thinking about how yummy this is going to be all day. All those healthy veggies, perfect for a no meat Friday.

I am now about half way through making it and the smells are maki... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 19:47:41 EST 10 minute mile, s90total body, and a beautiful day! So proud of myself! I ran 3.3 miles at a 10 minute mile pace this morning. Every time I stopped to walk, I thought of one of my sparkfriend's blogs from about a month ago (I wanted to give them credit, but I couldn't find the blog again). They were talking about pushing yourself and when you feel like you can't go any further to ask yourself if you truly physically can't go farther or if you just mentally don't think you can go farther.

I was trying to push myself for a 9 minute m... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 11:27:13 EST New iPad!! I've been waiting 3 months to buy my ipad. I was trying to decide whether to spend the extra money on the iPad or get a les expensive tablet. After my research I decided to make the additional investment in the iPad, but decided to wait for the new one to come out so that I could save some money on the iPad 2 (I don't need the new features).

I was very excited when the new iPad release happened, but then wasn't able to get time to compare prices and such for a whole week. I was... Wed, 21 Mar 2012 22:57:04 EST Green Hat (Girl Scout) Field Trip to the WI Quilt Museum in Cedarburg 3/10/12 Finally got a chance to upload the pictures. Sun, 18 Mar 2012 20:19:25 EST Supreme 90 update!! New speed for running for me! So, my schedule has been crazy this past week. I knew that I wouldn't have time to do my workouts over the weekend - Sat I was gone from 5:30am-10pm and Sun I was gone 6:30am-9pm.

So, Friday I doubled up Cardio Challenge and Legs. Monday I was planning on doubling up Chest/Back and Ultimate Ball. I finished chest / beck and was running short on time. Since Tuesday was supposed to be a rest day, I decided to leave Sunday as my S90 rest day and do Ultimate Ball on Tuesday.
... Thu, 15 Mar 2012 10:49:14 EST Busy weekend ahead - Girl Scout (adults only) trip and my sister's 40th birthday! I have a busy weekend coming up (more later) and won't be able to do my supreme 90 (I haven't even figured out when I am going to Church!). So this morning I doubled up - Cardio Challenge and Legs.

I don't know if I really pushed my self hard or what, but I was DONE at the end!! I didn't even use the 10 pound weights all the way through legs, but not because of my legs - because my shoulders and elbows were tired.

Monday I am planning on doing the other double up, but ... Fri, 9 Mar 2012 19:03:07 EST Almost missed my rest day! So I got up this morning to do Supreme90. When I got ready and checked to see what workout was up today, I realized it was a rest day!!!!!

I was very excited and actually went and crawled back into bed. After about 3 minutes I was like - what am I doing????

Got up and did the 20 minute TurboJam and then actually made it to work early.

Felt really proud of myself!!!! Tue, 6 Mar 2012 19:40:17 EST Tempering the Temper. I did some soul searching this weekend. I have been having a harder and harder time keeping a positive outlook recently no matter what type of mindframe or focus I have tried.

I realized that my temper is getting the best of me. I have not physically or directly blown up with anyone. However, I have had more than my fair share of 'reaching my max' in frustrations with dealing with others. I thought I was having problems communicating my concerns / wishes / directions with other... Mon, 5 Mar 2012 20:08:07 EST S90 Chest/Back and a chill day at mom's Did 40 minutes of Turbo Jam and S90 Chest/Back this morning. I can tell a rest day is coming up - I am starting to feel sore muscles (which I love!!!). Used similar weights as I did on day 1.

Then, I went to mom's for the day. Just to hang out (they have a wood burner furnace so it is always warmer than I keep my house and dad cooks). I had some duties to do - especially computer stuff, but that is my responsibility for being the daughter that lives close. I am very lucky, I c... Sun, 4 Mar 2012 18:30:04 EST S90 Legs - Merlin I started the day by waking up after 11 hours sleep. So happy!!! I have been trying to do that (well, maybe not 11, but 10 for sure) for 3 weeks, but the schedule hasn't allowed it.

Got up and did 40 minutes of TurboJam and then S90 Legs. Proud of myself because I used 10# weights for most of the exercises. That means that I am probably going to have to invest in the next weight up though. Well, I can combine weight for a little while. I forgot that legs is different from the... Sat, 3 Mar 2012 22:55:01 EST Love days where I can really focus on a workout! I love days like today where I end up with a block of time that allows me to do a series of workouts. I wasn't really into working out today, but since I had the time I made myself do it.

I did Supreme90 Cardio Challenge. This is probably my least favorite of the workouts (well, maybe except for Ultimate Ball). I think the changes are just too consistent and the 30 sec on, 30 sec off doesn't really work for me.
I do the bear crawl differently than they do though. I do it o... Fri, 2 Mar 2012 17:05:27 EST S90 days 3 and 4 Well, I had my whole blog written and I hit something and it disappeared and I couldn't undo. UGH!!!!!!!

Did day 3 - Tabata Inferno yesterday. Not at my best, but I completed it even though I had no interest in doing anything yesterday.

Went to a geocaching event for Leap day and got to talk with some virtual friends and met some newbies.

Day 4 - shoulders and arms. Used 5# weights for most of it.

Off to watch my daughter in a flash mob! Thu, 1 Mar 2012 19:28:00 EST S90 round 2 day 2 - Ultimate ball When I did S90 the first time, I used an oversized kids playground ball. I now have a real ball and this was my first time using it for more than an exercise or two.

I was pretty proud of myself, I kept up with almost everything the video did. Things I adjusted:
Pike - the ball was rolling everywhere, so I just did it on the floor.
Skiers - again - the ball was going everywhere put where it was supposed to. Again - did the exercise on the floor with out the ball.
... Mon, 27 Feb 2012 18:08:00 EST Supreme 90 starts tomorrow! Still looking for others to join us in our virtual workout! I am addicted. no matter how much I try, I can't let my phone get out of earshot.

Granted, it is a work phone and I am on call at all times (although the Health Center is only open 7:30-6, so it isn't really 24x7). I have trouble letting it go for too long though.

I have 4 email accounts set up on it (I used to have 5, but I gave one up to a coworker when she took over the responsibilities associated with that account).

I have it set up so that I know which... Thu, 23 Feb 2012 19:33:51 EST So energized by tonight's Girl Scout Adventure Race planning meeting I have been meeting with this group for the last month and a half to help plan a 5k mud run type race that will benefit our Girl Scout council. Combing two things I am so interested in - mud runs and Girl Scouts!!!

I have been energized after each meeting we have had. The group we are working with is basically a group that are not directly involved in Girl Scouts, which means that they are people I haven't worked with before.
