SHELLPRO's SparkPeople Blog SHELLPRO's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Not totally out of Kansas- YET! Hello my long missed friends here on Sparks. I've been very ill, both Blue Basset and I. Even more severe symptoms on my part. And Blue Basset is in need of much prayer and like myself, we just keep doing what we can do, each day. Though I admit, Blue Basset has been the better trooper. His poor bottom has to bother him tremendously, it has gotten some worse and the Vet still is putting off doing anything for fear of his not making it through the surgery. We tend to him as any would an elderl... Fri, 3 Feb 2012 01:17:40 EST Not out of OZ yet- there's some light around the Forrest? Well, I'm trying 2 pick up where I'd left off. More Storms R on the way as I type, both literally and in Life...

Blue has improved so much that he's almost his old Grumpy Self. We go into the Vet for re-check Monday. We will cover what costs for his issues with glands and cysts.

Now, about me? I have MRI scheduled for Monday, 23 May. Seems I've done from bad to worse- disc out of alignment of neck, lower spine, with Sciatica, degenerative bone disease, and possible nerve... Sun, 22 May 2011 10:19:14 EST When do I get 2 Wake Up & leave OZ? I hardly know where to begin? I've missed Sparks and all my Spark Teams & Friends so MUCH! But the land of OZ is still predominant right now in my life. So I'll try to start at the most recent and work backwards. Forgive me- if I repeat any thing unnecessarily.

Mothers Day- around 5PM that afternoon, I decided to venture out with the Hounds. We've missed our routine so MUCH! And my body is showing it! It was finally a beautifully warm day and windy with more Storms predicted in th... Sat, 14 May 2011 08:11:42 EST Another Scary 24 Hr's in Kansas- It lasted almost 48 hours this time. Winds, Watches and Warning of Tornadoes, Thunderstorms, driving rains- almost 10 inches and major damages with 14 deaths across two States at last counting. Many like last years floods have had to be relocated, even the MS Casinos are closing and may not open for 2 weeks! A first of this happening. One area of MS will probably no longer exist when the waters finally recede- it will simply be swept away this time. Homes lost forever, as many will be with th... Thu, 28 Apr 2011 00:29:53 EST OK Oz, get me out of Kansas! My area of TN and Tri-States, have had such terrible Tornadoes, straight line winds, lightning, flash flooding that communications of any kind- providing you have still got electricity? Has thrown most of us out of the loop and back into the Dark Ages- literally. No power for a lot of home and business owners. Travel is precarious and at times dangerous. Asking 4 Prayers on the Hubby who is still driving Fed Ex when needed. That is always an IF situation that sometimes can't be known driving ... Fri, 22 Apr 2011 10:32:22 EST Weary on that Yellow Brick Road- Yes, still traveling somewhat and I'm getting weary. Latest update of the side-line into that Forrest of OZ:
Dr's have potentially diagnosed me with a fracture of the spine. About 2 weeks ago I noticed a sore spot in my spine, felt a lot like a stone bruise on your foot- if you've ever had one; you know what I mean? It only hurt if I lay a certain way or pressure was put upon it. Therefore when reported to the Dr he says, "Get me to an Orthopedist ASAP"; and do not do anything strenuous ... Sun, 17 Apr 2011 01:17:38 EST Another piece of the OZ life. Further study of possible causes of my diagnosed Emphysema- are you at risk?

Research has shown smoking isn't the main or only contributing factor. It appears to dominate in patients with extensive Radiology Testings and Workers of the Radiology Health field! I cannot remember how many Mammograms, CT's, MRI, I've had in 5 yrs. Its too many to count up out of memory- Surgeries of the neck, chest, and head also play a factor. Also, living in areas with high bird populations- I grew ... Sun, 13 Mar 2011 09:14:48 EST May have to Revise my Yellow Brook Road 5K? I'm keeping this short and brief- the Pulmonary Specialist has Diagnosed me with Emphysema, more testing is involved throughout the Month. Whether its due to 40 yr's of Smoking, Lupus, or a different health issue may be found in the further testing? Either way, extensive hard Cardio may not be advisable. I was too shocked and upset to ask. I'll be seeing him again this week and will ask.

I'm asking all my Sparkies to keep me in Prayers, please.

46 Tue, 8 Mar 2011 17:29:08 EST Walk/Jog, the Yellow Brick Road. Had to wait until I'd recovered from the Circuit Training Sunday AM @ 5:30. I was already feeling sore muscles from long under use. But committed to the Virtual 5K Walk/Jog I am- did it in 20:04 and now I gotta cool down enough to get up with the DH by 4 AM Mon. Join me if U dare? 198 Mon, 7 Mar 2011 01:25:06 EST Meanwhile- Life happens. 1. 4 the 1st time in almost 12 yr's the DH will now be on a fixed Work Schedule at his so called "Full Time Job." He will now either be home or on the Road at his other "Part-Time Job." My schedule will be a changing in all things. Maybe a good thing?

2. I've been absent here on Sparks, and I apologize. While I Tracked as much as I could and tried to keep to my Schedules. I had a relative with both Stomach and possible Breast Cancer to coach and support. She doesn't live in State. ... Sun, 6 Mar 2011 10:29:46 EST Probably Sleeping with Ruby Slippers ON! This is just getting plain scary, crazy- tonight around 11 PM the Red Bone started acting wilder and wilder. Running in and out side until I finally went to the patio to look. Most of the coming Tornadoes have been set to move in between very early AM and mid-day Monday. Well while standing there on the Patio I realize the Wind Chimes that I have mounted onto a Shepherds Hook for pots- its rattling round like crazy! Not that much wind going on. And the Hound is stiff as a board on top of our ... Mon, 28 Feb 2011 01:29:56 EST Keeping those Ruby Slippers handy? To start, I successfully made it to my Endocrinologist appointment! Barely made it home in time for the TN Tornado Show! The next 12 hours were rift with bulitines, reports of damages, approaching storms, and lucky us. The Hubby made it through on town in time for the Tornado Sirens and got away and home safely in time for our Sirens too. The rain caused flash flooding and the straight line winds took my Wrought Iron Patio Set (all chairs and umbrella) on a ride! The Ever-Ready had already st... Sun, 27 Feb 2011 20:42:08 EST And behind the Curtain? Yes, the Wizard had more along the lines of my health issues. It seems that if the Parathyroid isn't working properly or dead, as mine may be? It will not matter how much Calcium you or I take! It simply will not be processed by the body properly and Osteoporosis and all its evils will be inevitable. NOT a pleasant thought and a symptom that I intend to have researched IF I make it to my Endocrinologist today. Tornado Season is upon TN and today is carrying a High Risk factor as the day moves... Thu, 24 Feb 2011 10:02:43 EST The Wizard is Watching? Oh, Oh! The Dr OZ Show today was all about the "Wizard of OZ!" How funny and not too coincidental? Perhaps he's "goggled" himself and caught my twist of Blog here? Too funny if its true.

Todays Blog was going to be titled, "Living with the Cowardly Lion". So on with that frame of mind- As mentioned earlier in my Spark Page, the Darling Husband (DH as we use here;) Has as serious health issues as I do. He's ceased to monitor or even attempt to make progress out of his Morbid Obesity... Fri, 18 Feb 2011 16:21:13 EST This isn't the Yellow Brick Road? Ah, living in the Land of OZ- are you lost yet? With everyone chiming in with a NEW better, healthier, happier, way to be- thinner, look younger, live longer? Its coming at us from the Winds of media, radio, TV, Blogs, etc. The list goes on and on. . .

My favorite is to just preserver! I take each with a grain of salt (careful of Sodium In-take!) Cut out the sappy, too sweet (careful of Sugar In-take!) Cut out the over-blown (careful of Fat-Intake!) Fill it in with some data resear... Tue, 15 Feb 2011 11:06:13 EST Living in the Land of OZ. Today I've been waiting for the DH to struggle home from his Fed Ex job. He'd gone to Nashville, TN and now with Winter Mix and 3 inches of snow/ice; he's a struggling traveler who absolutely hates driving in this. My Dr. apt. had to be canceled, waiting for the weeks remaining storms to move on before I reschedule. Not a good day thus far.

Along the lines of living with Dr. Oz tips and suggestions. Nothing too stupendously different than what we all should have learned by now here... Mon, 7 Feb 2011 13:19:44 EST Try Living in the Land of OZ. I'm an avid follower of Dr. Oz's show and have started to keep up with his recommendations for Healthier Living. I haven't been able to contact him directly as to his recommendations for those like myself that have serious Health issues; but I'm going on the wisdom of the one's that specifically apply to prevention of common health issues. Initially I'm doing exactly what I've always done here on Spark's- I'm tracking when my body allows me to use it, my Exercise (moderate for me now), and Me... Mon, 7 Feb 2011 04:27:47 EST Life Altering Moment's in progress- I owe many of you an apology. I've been sadly neglecting my Spark Teams and Friends, not from any wish of my own; but due to severely limiting health issues.

These have grown by the score- my vision is depreciating badly, most times I am unable to focus further than my arm reach depending on the item I've tried to focus on. Overall body pain has reached a debilitating state, I find myself for the 1st time in a long time; forced to rely on pain medications that then put me to sleep... Tue, 11 Jan 2011 08:41:11 EST One Life Mystery almost Answered. Well, I hardly know what 2 say? Not at all the Diagnosis I'd considered- Degenerative Spine Disease, hoping for more guidance as I have to wait until the 21ST, December now. The Dr called this week to reschedule my appointment follow-up. 24

The TN Weather is also NOT helping the issues. Extremely fluctuating temperatures and now raining like all heck, which additionally is supposed to turn into some sort of ugly Winter Mix in less than 12 hr's. Wait? I think I hear it ag... Sat, 11 Dec 2010 15:48:36 EST It's my Party- And cry I will, if I want to. I arrived at the MRI on time, not that the Weather was cooperating in aiding this. It was so cold I couldn't stop shivering all the way to the Hospital.

So bring on the Migraine! TN got a cute little warm up that day. Oh yes, there is not anything I can compare to the agony of an MRI while developing a Migraine? It was at the 'nagging' toothache stage when I work up, up to the almost can't "bear to look" stage since it as a sunny, clear day by the tim... Sun, 5 Dec 2010 03:04:48 EST And Life's Mysteries continue onto Part 2 Well, I hardly know where to start? The Med's have made me unpleasantly 'daffy-er" than usual, lol. I've cooked with no food, and with no heat again :( Several pots of Coffee made and forgotten to turn on too. NOW that is scary! You all know of my Decaf Addiction, sigh. So Hounds are also acting up- no wogs, no fun with their Pack Leader and they've had to stand in front of me a time or two to 'remind me' to put their food out as promised. At least the DH has caught on to 'helping as help can... Wed, 1 Dec 2010 02:18:39 EST Life's Mysterious Happenings. The past 2 weeks have been really trial by fire! I developed an over-all muscle spasm from my waist up to the Top of my Head on Sunday, 14th, 2010. The day prior I'd felt wonderfully close to my 'old Spark Self'- hitting on all my Spark Goals and getting them accomplished without needing a Nap! But that night I'd noticed a 'tender' place on my right side of the neck, mystery as to why? But hadn't thought much about it until I tried to get out of bed that following Sunday. I was a Frankenstein... Sun, 28 Nov 2010 12:48:17 EST Say's it All-

/

306

We all especially women, have moments like this. 24 Wed, 17 Nov 2010 08:15:35 EST Health Check? Why hit the Snooze? I just don't "get it". The DH had been progressing well with his Blood Pressure and leg swelling since eating healthier, and taking his Medications as he's supposed to. Though I'm still "forced" to play Mamma by reminding or asking if he's taken them. He has ever since I've been married to him NOT wanted to finish anything! Especially medications- by some unfathamable reasoning, he believes that once he starts to feel better that these medications are either NO longer needed or required to be... Sat, 6 Nov 2010 09:40:49 EST Another GOOD reason to Eat Fresh! Got this Trick or Treat in E-Mail today- since everyone is still having Halloween get together's I thought it adviseable to share this RECALL information with Members. My first surprise since being a Sparker? How many of the Kid's loved healthy Trick or Treat choices! Sat, 30 Oct 2010 13:56:26 EST Both of us waiting for Health. The DH arrived from work last night, about 8PM 10/23/2010. His pain of both Legs he's had issue with for almost a week now, he said was unbearable. He'd had enough and we went to the ER. He just took time to shower and dress comfortably, we had no Dinner, though I'd shared a Protein Bar with him that I keep in my purse, after all the testing was done.

4 hrs later, several tests, showed severe Osteoarthritis of Both Knees. This is believed to be the main culprit for the pain. Howev... Sun, 24 Oct 2010 04:51:51 EST WAITING for Health Action! Yes, I've returned from my Orthopedic Specialist- wait time? 60 min. Diagnosis? Carpal Tunnel, Tennis Elbow, Ganglion Cyst of the Wrist (the swelling finally went down enough for the Dr to see it!), Tennitis. Neurological Testing Scheduled for Nov. 1, 2010 to design the number of points to cut. All done in less than 30 min.

Why the wait for the Surgery you may ask me? Because the Dr wants to, all the information I could get. And the Price? $1,127.00. How do I know this already, whe... Wed, 20 Oct 2010 18:05:42 EST TIME to take Action on our Health, Today! Its been a LONG day. Couldn't sleep until around 1PM, up by 8 AM and off with the DH for the Minor Medical Clinic. He arrrived home last night with the continued pain in his legs from the knees down that he's complained of since Oct.13, 2010, now he's got extreme swelling of BOTH legs. The diagnosis was grim. Blood Pressure 153/100, at least his Blood Sugar was 82! But the Nurse Practioner advised him to get both his legs checked for Peripherial Artery Disease, Echo Cardio Gram, get a hold o... Sun, 17 Oct 2010 16:57:17 EST The WALL has Hit ME! I have again been laid out flat! The recent visit to the Orthopedic Specialist has again caused pain (another combo shot of Cortisone!), and required the stop of all upper body activity as much as possible. And the added Fashion Statement of a Brace that goes from my Finger Nails to the Elbow! And it require 2 of those, and they do NOT match! Wed, 6 Oct 2010 17:29:06 EST Thought for the Day. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones” (Proverbs 3:5-8).

129 Mon, 27 Sep 2010 18:09:22 EST Perseverance- a most loved and hated word. Even now, since I haven't ever gotten anything but a False Positive diagnosis; in the Dr's opinions and testing over almost 15 yrs (1997 first symptoms/testing)?

I deny RA and Lupus it's hold on me. Sometimes a BAD thing that leads to other issues, like now. Thu, 9 Sep 2010 20:16:31 EST How I spent my Vacation. No pictures to share yet, I'm still learning how to sync and load to the PC. I have to admit, I didn't want to go on this what was my and the DH's 1st Vacation in almost 15 yrs. together. I got left behind on last year's since I couldn't find Hound Sitters! This yr. I had a Teenage girl in the Neighborhood Hound Watch, she came 1-2 times a day to walk, feet, water, etc. I can say that when I returned 7 days later, the house was a mess (clean up was not in the Hound Watch Agreement), enough do... Sun, 5 Sep 2010 19:37:58 EST Way's 2 End up in Trouble while Walking- Given my dedication to this Activity with the Hounds and our propensity for getting into trouble, I thought to share this little article of things to NOT do. The DH has fianlly gotten back into his 2nd Full Time job and no time or help for things around here, and as a Peace Offering for the expense of Blue's unexpected Vet Bill. I'm trying NOT to be too Graphic. I believe from my Research on line that my Vet has lied to me, intentionally or not- ALL dogs have Anal Glands, just FYI. I've been asking for almost a yr. if Blue had issues because of various new problems he's had. No one ever examined it, they just told me "Male" Dog's don't need to have Anal Glands Excreted.
