I think I end up setting the bar too high and when I can't live up to my expectations I just say "screw it" and throw it all out the window. And by throwing it out the window, I mean eating a dozen chocolate chip cookies over 2 days and chasing them with some white wine.

I weighed in lower today though, so I guess I didn't blow it as badly as I thought I might have.

6/2/14 Measurements:
Weight: 129.8
Waist: 27 <... Wed, 28 May 2014 09:31:40 EST Hello, old friend http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5704460 It's hard to believe that it's been nearly 7 years to the day since I started Spark and was able to reach my goal weight. It's not that hard to believe that my weight has finally creeped up to my starting weight all these years later. 15 I've dabbled in Sparkpeople over the years, but I think I'm finally ready to dust off my trusty calorie-spreadsheet (the original is still saved in my Google docs!) and track like a rockstar again. Keeping a journal really helped me to stay ... Tue, 27 May 2014 14:29:17 EST 2010 Resolution Run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2677017 I haven't found much time to run since we moved out of the city. The good thing is that when I do run, it's outside. I'm hardcore now! Our condo community has tons of little jogging paths and they've been perfect for hammering out 3-4 mile runs. I spend a lot of time commuting to NYC, so it's hard to find time for working out. Hopefully, as the days get longer, I'll find time to squeeze runs in on weekdays. The upside to all this is that I'm doing other activities to stay fit... jump... Ouch!

www.nytimes.com/2009/10/23/sports/23
marathon.html?_r=1
Fri, 23 Oct 2009 14:12:02 EST My first marathon - Hartford, CT - Race recap! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2472987 First and foremost, thank you all so much for your support these past few months (actually years!). Seriously, I NEVER in a hundred years EVER would've thought I could run a mile, let alone a marathon. But then I found this site, read all of your inspirational stories, and found so much support here too. So thanks!!!

Now onto the (probably ridiculously long) recap!

I made a packing list a few weeks ago so I wouldn't forget anything. And I packed everything on the list.... I know that I probably over did it this week with the carb loading, but I honestly don't know what the heck I'm doing so I thought it best to eat carbs, carbs, and more carbs for just about every meal, all week long.... just in case.

I think I successfully fought off the cold that I started coming down with earlier this week by sleeping 10 hours every night and drinking O... I had two large glasses of water for every glass of wine I had (which was 1. sigh.) I went to bed at 9pm while everyone else stayed up drinking in the hot tub. I ran 9 miles Sunday morning at my goal marathon pace (a girl can still dream). Reasons why this run rocked:

1. 9 miles! A single digit long run!!!

2. It felt good to run long and fast(ish). I felt strong. Haven't felt strong during a long run in a long time.

3. No equipment (sort of, I still ran with the Garmin and my ... I packed a kashi bar and cereal to snack on during the day and I totally carbed myself up like crazy. We tested out a diner in the area we're buying (yum!) and while I ordered an omelet, I mostly filled up on toast and home fries. I love an excuse to eat all the home fries on my plate. I also love that I didn't feel guilty about it. We got home much earlier last night and I had the biggest plate of pasta that I'v... Sun, 6 Sep 2009 16:23:36 EST 6 weeks till marathon- and the panic sets in http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2360653 Let me give the back story. I only ran once last week (on Tuesday). I had plans in the evening Wednesday and Thursday and I was so tired from lack of sleep on those days that I didn't get up in the morning to run. Friday rolled around and I was too lazy and tired to run again. So bad. Saturday we spent the whole day house hunting. Breakfast was a bagel, lunch was 2 cookies and a Twizzler at the realtor's office, dinner was the pizza place that someone recommended in the area. I wanted to... I ate pasta and drank a ton of water the night before (no sangria this time). I laid out all my gear, stuffed my socks in my sneakers, prepped the pineapple juice/coconut water cocktail, brewed my coffee so I could have on ice in the morning, etc. etc. etc. I didn't sleep very well though because I kept thinking about the route I wanted to run.

The alarm went off at 6am (the plan was to avoid both the heat and the th... Sun, 23 Aug 2009 11:30:26 EST How? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2331313 How did I finish a half marathon on one of the hottest days of the year? I ran 3 miles outside today and it felt like I was jogging in place I moved so slow! I was dripping with sweat and my legs felt like they were moving through molasses. Is it due to heat? Running 3 days in a row? Cutting calories back a little this week? I hope it gets easier because 14 miles on Saturday is looking like a total nightmare. I'm actually praying for a little rain to keep things cool. Thu, 20 Aug 2009 10:34:51 EST The Crazy - Week Ending 8/16 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2320208 It is hot out there!
67
I feel like I've been spoiled all Summer with the mild temps and this weekend it totally bit me in the butt. Lots of life stuff got in the way this week, so the only workouts I ended up doing (aside from my physical therapy exercises at home) were a 5 mile easy run, a 5 mile tempo run (both inside on a treadmill), and my 12-mile run on Saturday. Week 1 into Week 2 (Redux) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2303805 I've decided that training for a marathon is just crazy. It seemed like such a good idea back in January, and now that I'm struggling... not so much. The struggle isn't just with the training itself, but with the mindset that comes with training for something as daunting as 26.2 miles. I don't want to mess it up. Plus I'm struggling with the fear of hurting my knee again. And with the guilty feelings that come with wanting to eat more. And with the fear of gaining even more weight when I ne... Mon, 10 Aug 2009 15:59:11 EST Healed!!! Hartford Marathon bound... again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=2283276 July was quite a month. It started with a nice and steady 11 mile run on a flat linear trail. And it was followed by a 12 miler in hilly Central Park, where I experienced the nastiest pulling pain in my right knee at mile 10. I do not recommend running 2 miles through the pain. (Though the thought of walking 2 miles to the subway was also not appetizing). I took a week off of all exercise, wincing every time I walked after sitting still for awhile or every time I walked downstairs. Finall... It was a tough call between registering for this race or the Women's 10k race running in the park tomorrow. I decided to go with the 5k because it would be a better indication of my progress so far, since I've never run a 10k before. I also knew it would be my last race before this fall's marathon (Day 1 of marathon training begins on Monday!)

... Sat, 31 Jan 2009 19:15:36 EST Eureka (r.e. treadmill running) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1718059 It was cold and icky here this weekend, which means the 7 mile run had to be done indoors. We only get 4 channels on the treadmill TVs at the gym, and when there's nothing on tv (which is 100% likely on a weekend) 7 miles is a total nightmare. But I needed to run, so I used $6 from my Itunes gift certificate to download the most mind numbing (yet entertaining) TV shows I could think of - True Life, Engaged and Underage, and Whose Wedding Is It Anyway. WTH! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1677922 I have to run 7 miles this weekend and I do not want to run them on the treadmill. All week I've been reading about running in the cold, planning my wardrobe, drawing up my plan of action (a neighborhood route, a backup plan -- i.e., if it gets too cold, run the last leg on the treadmill at the gym). I finally psyched myself up for my first winter run. And it all goes out the window if it snows tomorrow. I don't have the shoe thingies for snow running and running on snowy sidewalks on Su... I went back and tallied up all my running miles for the year (yes, I have a lot of time on my hands). I ran 463 miles in 2008 - which only gets me to Cleveland from NYC. Turns out I'm an overpronator, so I needed some super stability shoes. I tried o... Unfortunately I also went to bed hungry, which is weird considering that I feel like I ate quite a bit yesterday.

Sat, 8 Nov 2008 09:35:12 EST Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1553599 Cals in - 1475 (6 F&V)
Cals out - 450 (Speedwork on the treadmill - 5.25 miles)
Deficit - 489
Total Deficit - 968
Weight -123.8 (a pleasant surprise... really thought I'd see 125+)

The only junk food I consumed yesterday was a glass of wine - not too shabby! I am thinking of ways to cut out unnecessary calories. First, say no to the candy dish at work. Second, I really need to rethink the amount of cocktails I consume. Today I decided to forgo the cheese in ... Fri, 7 Nov 2008 09:27:53 EST Day 1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1551977 Calories in - 1450 (6 F&V)
Calories out - 415 (4.5 miles on the treadmill+strength training with free weights)
Deficit - 479 cals
Total Deficit - 479

I need to keep the candy and sweet intake in check - those calories are really adding up. Thu, 6 Nov 2008 09:24:08 EST Day -1 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1550105 Perhaps I was too ambitious to start my 31-day plan on my actual birthday. I had a pineapple mojito, chips and salsa, cheese enchiladas, and a reeses peanut butter cup - in addition to a bunch of wine to celebrate the election results. So Day 1 officially begins today.

Aside from all the crazy food and drinks from last night, my birthday was super healthy. My birthday presents included a food scale, a yoga bag, and some resistance bands. And I'm using my birthday money to buy so... Wed, 5 Nov 2008 10:08:28 EST 31 days http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1548345 In honor the two year anniversary of my 29th birthday, I've decided to begin a 31-day self-improvement boot camp. Starting today. Here is the plan of action:

1. Track my calorie intake every day for 31 days. Include all condiments, salt, half and half, etc.
2. Use my brand new handy little food scale every time I eat something that I can measure.
3. Create a 3100 calorie deficit each week. At the end of 31 days, my total deficit should be 13728 calories. That's almost... Tue, 4 Nov 2008 10:41:00 EST Calorie Deficit Redux http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1538514 I'm in a weight loss holding pattern. I thought I broke into the 123s, but that was short lived and now I'm hovering at 125 with no sign of going back down. I've been tracking my calorie deficit in a spreadsheet religiously this month and I've consistently built up a calorie deficit.

Or so I thought.

I've been using 1620 cals as my BMR+Sedentary base. I calculated that number last year after losing 15 pounds using the SP formula. Given that my 31st birthday is just a... Wed, 29 Oct 2008 12:11:59 EST Playwright Halloween 5k http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1534214 The Halloween 5k this weekend was so much fun! I dragged my mom and her friend out for the race - it was their first 5k and they planned to walk. There were 3 other ladies dressed as flashdancers, and unfortunately I have to say that their costumes were better than mine. I think their leggings were a nice touch, but since it was really warm once I started running I'm glad I sacrificed style (i.e. leggings) for comfort (i.e. shorts).

I got off to a good start (finished my first m... Mon, 27 Oct 2008 10:03:20 EST Progress and an upcoming 5k http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1499874 I'm finally seeing some progress on the scale. Today marks 2 days in a row in the 123s... a number I haven't seen in about 2 months and 2 pounds less than this time last week. I owe it all to staying on track over the weekend and pushing myself with a longer run Sunday (only 6 miles... but longer than what I have been doing).

Today I made the knee-jerk decision to sign up for a 5k race that's on 10/26. You're supposed to run in costume, but I think I'll stick to cat ears and cal... Tue, 7 Oct 2008 14:00:42 EST This makes sense. Sort of. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1487294 According to an article I read over the weekend, if you take an extended break from running or working out and consequently gain weight - then go back to running or working out, you will not lose weight unless you do MORE than you did before the hiatus.

I really need to step up my game. This week I am shooting to burn over 2000 calories. 500 down... 1500 to go.

Edited to add a link to an article explaining this horrible, horrible thing:

www.sciencedail...
