Thu, 27 Jun 2013 05:30:47 EST reflecting on the week http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5398405 i haven't been blogging so much this week and i don't quite know why. i have been consistently tracking, eating veggies/fruits, and drinking water, so maybe i don't need to blog so much to keep myself accountable. i have also done a ton of exercise this week: a 20 mile cycle ride on sunday, yoga on monday, tuesday, and thursday; spinning on wednesday and saturday.

however, my calorie count has been pretty high this week. i checked out this past week of calorie counts and the maxim... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 15:58:56 EST ups and downs http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5393629 well, i just tracked at about 2200 today, so i feel a bit bummed. i don't know what happened in the afternoon, but i was hit with cravings and being tired, back and forth, and found myself snacking more than i should.

i think that i need to take another approach b/c clearly, i've been on sp since october and i am not changing my eating habits very significantly. i go through these phases of intensity and excitement, focusing very hard on eating within my range for a few weeks and t... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 16:24:27 EST a little bit on yesterday and some more on today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5393084 well, yesterday i tracked at under 1700, which is definitely progress. no cookies, so that helped! i wonder if i have to stop cold turkey with the cookies in general. that would be so tragic..

also, i weighed myself today and there has been no change. i'm still at 157.41. i shouldn't be surprised given how i've been eating, but i'd love for the number to go down.

today was my second day of waking up early and going to a yoga class. so far, i do feel more focused but also... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 08:25:39 EST hungry http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5392097 hey sparkers,

i'm trying my hardest to stay in my calorie range today. its about 7 pm and i haven't had dinner yet. at this point, i've got about 551 calories to eat for dinner.

i'm seriously trying my best and do you know the extremely obvious thing that i'm learning, despite having been on the SP plan since October? I'm hungry. For some reason, for the past 8 months, I was not able to be hungry, and so I immediately ate, and thus, could not stick to the low calorie ran... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 13:49:35 EST sunday- a new week! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5390936 today, DH and I did a 20 mile cycle ride. It was fantastic. We had a wonderful time and it was a perfect way to spend a Sunday. I'm going to try to do a few of these this summer because being outdoors is quite good for my soul.

As I predicted, the cycle ride was not much of a calorie burner. According to SP-- which tends to overestimate in my humble opinion-- I burned about 530 calories. Yet, I ate about 2500 calories today-- aka, 2 salami and cheese sandwiches, 3 cookies, and lots... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 15:14:59 EST saturday report http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5390192 hey folks,

so, i tracked today at 1900, which is good. over course, still 300 over my calorie range, but after an evening at 2700, i feel good about being below 1900.

i looked over my calorie range for this past week and it seems like i was between 1900 and 2700. i weighed myself and i've maintained-- no loss or gain. after so much gaining, that also feels like a win.

tomorrow, DH and i are going to do an all day bike ride, about 20 miles. i think that it will... Sat, 15 Jun 2013 18:38:08 EST friday report http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5389682 well, friday was a bit of a fail in terms of nutrition. i did generally okay during the day but the evening was a bomb. we had friends over for dinner and i tracked for only dinner- 1800. i ended the day around 2600. not good.

i went to a wonderful yoga class, which was great. so not a total failure.

today, i woke up relatively early to go to spin class. however, it turned out to be full, which was a bit odd. so, i didn't go! i guess its okay to take a rest day consider... Sat, 15 Jun 2013 06:23:15 EST thursday report http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5388156 today was a good day in terms of nutrition and fitness. i tracked at about 1900. obviously, the goal is 1560, so that's not so great, but its better than 3000. 390 of those calories are cookies, so i would have been within range if it weren't for the cookies. i find the cookie battle so difficult. i had one after lunch and i really didn't need to.

in terms of exercise, my plan was to go to a spin class tonight but i didn't make it due to lack of motivation. i did cycle from my hou... Thu, 13 Jun 2013 15:13:54 EST reporting back for today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5387223 hey sparkers,

today was a good day for nutrition. i tracked at about 1800. so, still not at the desired 1560 but not sooo horribly off either. i didn't do any exercise today, but i feel okay about that since i did both yoga and spinning this week.

i'm feeling a little bit sick and i'm scared that its going to become full blown. just in case i wake up feeling good tomorrow, however, my plan is to do two more spinning classes: one tomorrow night and one on saturday mornin... Wed, 12 Jun 2013 18:22:02 EST a good nutrition and fitness day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5386087 hey sparkers,

i'm continuing blogging how i'm doing with nutrition and fitness. i really should go back to the healthy habits phase but i'm going to just take it easy for a bit.

today was a very good day for nutrition and fitness. i tracked at 1800 today, amazingly enough. i also had at least 8 glasses of water today if not more. if i had known that drinking out of a 1 liter bottle would make me water drinking a more easy habit, i would have bought one years ago!
<... Tue, 11 Jun 2013 17:11:56 EST recovering but still feeling bad http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5384851 hey sparkers,

first off, thank you so much for your comments and support in reaction to my last post. i'm still a bit in shock over how all of that went and so just being able to write what happened and get only supportive comments makes me feel really safe. i'm still waiting things out so that i feel less bad and for my confidence to come back. getting this new job was really a confidence booster for me. i've been freelancing for over a year now, which has been going okay, but i r... Tue, 4 Jun 2013 17:03:23 EST today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5377002 hey folks,

here's a recap on how i've done today. i tracked at 2119-- not terrible, not great.
i exercised today. i did a spin class and i also did a practice run of my cycle commute, about 8 miles round trip. according to sp, i burned over 500 calories of exercise, but i don't actually believe it. however, i do feel good.
in terms of veggies, i succeeded in having a serving of fruit/veggies with every meal-- blueberries with breakfast, guacamole (and thus avocado) for l... Mon, 3 Jun 2013 16:36:37 EST just weighed myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5376275 and am at 160! yikes!

now, i'm wondering if i really ate so much in one week to warrant gaining another 3 pounds. i actually think i'm bloated due to my period and its water weight but i decided to weigh myself to stay in the habit rather than avoid it.

if i did gain 3 pounds in one week, that will be very sad :( Mon, 3 Jun 2013 05:14:26 EST quickie update june 2nd 2013 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5375848 hey all,

after writing the last blog post, i felt a lot more relaxed because i now don't feel so pressured to deal with all of the various parts of the sp diet. the nice thing is that it opened up the space for me to track my calories. i'm at 2100 today-- so, not great, but not horrible.

i also redid my goals. i'm currently at 157 and my goal is to be 143. i decided to take it a little bit more easy with a goal of 143 by october 1st. giving myself 4 months is a first for... Sun, 2 Jun 2013 18:21:36 EST do-over june http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5375584 hi everyone,

i haven't blogged in nearly a week. i went out of town on tuesday through thursday to get a countryside break. it was very nice and definitely helped me out of the burnout that i was feeling up to that point. i've been back since thursday evening. both friday and saturday, i've been pretty busy.

i think i'm going to take koffeenut's advice and actually just ease off a bit b/c i'm feeling quite overstretched and overwhelmed. this week, i have a big project on... Sun, 2 Jun 2013 12:56:20 EST day 5 and 6 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5369211 hey sparkers,

i haven't been able to blog in a couple of days. the good news is that i've been exercising. on saturday (day 5), i did a spinning class. yesterday, sunday, day 6, i did an incredible yoga class.

i haven't been tracking my calories but that is due to lack of time and focus rather than because i've been bingeing (leading to shame and avoiding tracking). so while its not good that i haven't been tracking, i know that i have been somewhat in control of my eat... Mon, 27 May 2013 11:04:18 EST day 3 and 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5367037 super quick entry:

yesterday i tracked at about 1900. not great, not horrible, compared to how i've been this past month.

as for water and veggies, i don't know.

i didn't really keep track of serving size either.

nor did i exercise.

today was even worse, b/c i didn't even track.

today, we had our check out for our old apartment. it was horrible. basically, the agent was finding dust in the oddest little places and implying that... Fri, 24 May 2013 20:31:29 EST day 2 of week 1 of healthy habits http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5364911 hey sparkers,

so, yesterday night, i read more thoroughly on the healthy habits phase. each week, they introduce an action to emphasize building healthy habits. this week its measuring single serving sizes for food this week. for this action, i started out okay. i actually weighed my morning toast and i measured out the butter in measuring spoons, so that i had a teaspoon instead of a tablespoon. i ate out for lunch and then for dinner, i eyeballed it instead of measuring it out. ... Wed, 22 May 2013 19:03:29 EST day 1 of week 1 of healthy habits phase http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5363788 hi sparkers,

first, a quick run through of my fast break goals. i'm no longer in the fast break phase, but i think that i should try to continue with the 4 elements: 1) water 2) fruit/veg 3) tracking 4) exercising

1) water: yes!
2) fruit/veg: also yes
3) tracking: yes. 2229, not great. very not great. but that is where i am at.
4) exercising: yes! went to an amazing yoga class. not a calorie burner but i love the flexibility i achieve via yoga and the brea... Mon, 20 May 2013 16:50:07 EST weighed myself http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5361828 hi everyone,

i weighed myself for the first time april 4th. i'm 158 pounds. that's right. i've gained about 4 pounds in 6 weeks. this is awful.

i shouldn't be surprised given how i've been eating for the past month but i don't understand why its so easy to gain and so difficult to lose. how many months was i chugging along without any weight loss and in 6 weeks, i gain 4 pounds? come on!

this stinks. i feel really frustrated with myself. Mon, 20 May 2013 05:42:22 EST day 13 of 14 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5361822 quick run throug:

water: i don't know
fruit/veg: i don't hink so
tracking: no
exercise: no

again, don't know what is going on with me. yesterday, we spent the day cleaning out our old apartment (we just moved a couple of weeks ago). so that was exhausting and stressful especially b/c i'm sure the managing agent will try to keep the deposit for lack of cleaning.

still waiting to hear back from my potential new employers re: the details of my job.... Tue, 7 May 2013 17:57:13 EST its Dec. 30th! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5181280 Well, i haven't blogged for a while on SP. But its not because I've disappeared. Basically, I've been focusing my SP writing energy on emailing with buddies rather than blogging. I enjoy the emails because its easier for me to be accountable to a real person rather than to a faceless group of people who may/may not be reading these blogs. Also, I feel that I can be more personal in a way that is difficult to be in a public blog. Plus, its fun to get to know other people, share their struggles... Sun, 30 Dec 2012 19:20:50 EST 1515 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5141712 Well, today, thankfully, I'm in my range at 1515. What was the difference? I decided to have a sizable before dinner snack rather than be very hungry at dinner. My pattern is to eat light for breakfast, lunch (when I"m not working, like right now), have a snack, and then have a big dinner, which for some reason, leads me to completely gorge out on sweets after dinner. I decided to eat a more substantial snack in order to avoid this gorge.

Secondly, I've decided to implement a conse... Tue, 20 Nov 2012 16:54:01 EST wipe out! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5140727 i just had an entire chocolate almonds bar. that's right, i just added over 500 to my calorie total, putting me over 2100, for the second day in a row! how am i going to lose weight like this! argh! Mon, 19 Nov 2012 18:43:45 EST 1653 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5140533 Today I'm at 1653, which is much better than yesterday's 1850+. This morning, I weighed myself and found what I had been dreading: I've gained weight since last week. I'm at 154 instead of 153, which really stinks. 10 more pounds to go!

I guess I lost a pound while I was sick in bed and not eating much and I've gained it back. Its quite demoralizing because it makes me realize how careful I have to be, which is stressful.

Today, for example, i was at a friend's house hav... Mon, 19 Nov 2012 14:51:08 EST 1850 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5139499 So, I'm at 1850. 300 above my max. Which is not good. But way below 2100 of yesterday, which is good.

I had my usual breakfast: toast with pb and honey with tea with milk/sugar. Then, DH and I had free tickets to a movie that we saw in the early afternoon. We came home, and had leftovers for lunch: roast chicken, mashed potatoes with gravy. We then went out to a big market in the East to find some chairs. Upon arrival , we had coffee. DH had a large flat white and I had a small. Th... Sun, 18 Nov 2012 16:54:34 EST over 2100 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5138556 okay, i have to add to my previous entry. i just had soup, a piece of toast with margarine, followed by a cookie. i was feeling bored and decided to eat this to make me feel better. it worked, but now i feel guilty for going 600 over my calorie max.

i think that yogurt and muesli is probably not the best snack because its quite calorie-laden. i looked at the calories again and its over 500 just for yogurt and muesli; no honey, nothing else.

Its funny that I have it in m... Sat, 17 Nov 2012 17:00:35 EST 1663 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5138512 So, today again in the world of just under 1700. Not bad, not perfect. The day started off right. i had a small bkfst: tea, milk, sugar with 1 piece of toast and pb and honey. Then I went to spinning/abs class for an hour. In the afternoon, DH and I met some friends for brunch. We all had cafe au laits. I ordered a nicoise salad to be healthy and had another cafe au lait after the salad. We then went home, relaxed for a bit. I tracked my calories, expecting them to be quite low. Instead I wa... Sat, 17 Nov 2012 15:51:02 EST 1645 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5137705 Today I was slightly over my calorie max. I actually had a pretty good day. I had my usual bkfst: tea with milk, sugar and two pieces of toast with pb and honey, so one more piece than normal. For lunch, I had wasa crackers with cream cheese and a few slices of salami. I also had lots of tea with milk and sugar during the day.

What is nice is that I identified the 'afternoon cookie' problem. When I went to the supermarket to buy food for lunch, I specifically did not buy any sweets... Fri, 16 Nov 2012 18:03:31 EST over 2000 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5136585 Yikes! I was at over 2000 today. And again, it went wrong with the sweets. I had an afternoon meeting in a cafe. During the meeting, I had a cappuccino. I then had 1/2 hour before my next meeting. The waiter kept approaching me to ask if I wanted anything. I asked for fresh orange juice and a cookie. It was a small and guilty pleasure.

The problem was that my friend, who is a cook, came by with delicious home-made tea cookies for me. I had one. It was great. When I came home, I ate... Thu, 15 Nov 2012 17:12:26 EST under 1800 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5135412 So today was a bit of a naughty day. After my usual minimal bkfst, I went to work. At around 11ish, I had a small snack craving. Strangely enough, a plate of croissants arrived for the office. I couldn't resist and I had one. It was delicious and buttery (and oh so full of calories!). For lunch, i had Indian: chickpea curry with toasted bread and chai. It was about 600 calories. I came home, had a cookie. Then I rested, had a snack of muesli with yogurt, and extra raisins and prunes. Then for... Wed, 14 Nov 2012 17:03:32 EST Less than 1400 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5134284 I just tracked my calories and I'm at less than 1400 today. Exciting! Today, I had my usual breakfast: 1 piece of toast with peanut butter and honey, tea with milk and sugar. I had an appointment in the morning. I returned home, did a few errands. Before I went to my workspace, I decided to have a small and early lunch. I had made a mix of kidney beans, corns and cooked it with some day old basmati rice with onions, garlic, and chili pepper. I ate about a cup of this mix. I then went to my w... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 17:09:35 EST 1293 today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5133082 Well, today I have happily and surprisingly consumed less than 1300 calories. I can't believe it. I actually had a bigger breakfast than I usually do, a substantial lunch, a snack, and then a small dinner.

Hmmm, this might be the key. i've heard that eating very little during the day and then eating lots in the evening is a reason for weight gain and that people should consider eating more substantially during the day so one is not so hungry at night. Well, it worked for me.
... Mon, 12 Nov 2012 18:00:40 EST 1809 plus and out and about http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5131902 Today is my first day out and about since I've been ill. In the afternoon, DH and I went for a long walk. We arrived at the high street, had a coffee, chit, chatted, then walked back. It was about 1.5 hours and I was pretty tired at the end. I was scared that it was too much. We got home, rested for a bit, then met a friend for a movie. The movie was great! It really took me out of my element, and the theatre was full. We then walked home and DH made a wonderful meal.

I had a big ... Sun, 11 Nov 2012 19:49:15 EST
