I am freezing. Mid morning in mid March and it's only 34 degrees with a cold wind at 13 mph. I am completing the last day of the Michael Mosely 3 1/2 day fast. That also makes me cold. This is the third time I have done this fast. Every time has been a completely different experience. This time the hardest obstacle was the cold. I really haven't felt hungry. Some people would say I was borderline. I ate plenty. I just didn't feel out of control like I did last Sunday.

I didn't have problems with Sunday binges until I took the job with the paper. The worst thing about this morning was not the roads, although they were slick. It was the cold and wind. I am still trying to warm up. DH went with me on the route. Now that's a supportive husband that will get up at 2 A.M. and go out in weather like this.

The blessing in all this is we are NOT making the pilgrimage to church today, so I will not have a monster Sunday. I think we will have to sit out there in the ice storm and drink some hot tea.

The storm is supposed to be really bad. Fri, 28 Feb 2014 23:12:52 EST Persistence? Day 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5635510 I didn't swim today. I made the decision about 10:30, and I feel good about it. I got up this morning very tired. I am a morning person. The first four hours of the day is when I am usually the most productive. My muscles were sore, and both of my knees were achy from the killer kickboard workout I do.

So, I was disappointed when I got up and didn't want to do anything. Thu, 27 Feb 2014 19:11:20 EST Consistent Persistence, Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5634737 I am tired, just tired, not exhausted. Part of this is due to the new behaviors and attitudes I'm trying to cultivate. I think most of the fatigue is due to me increasing my swimming (FINALLY) to 1/2 mile each workout. I cannot believe how tender my muscles are, but they are sore in all the right places. That means my stroke mechanics are on the money. 8 months of pool closures and injuries really cramped my fitness regime.

Now there is a sign on the pool that it will be close... The dailyness of life does me in. I have trouble keeping up with vacuuming and mopping, weeding, practicing the musical instruments that I play, reading the Bible every day, keeping the household budget, scooping the litter box, and giving the cats their Laxatone every day. I do a good job keeping up with cooking, washing dishes, and doing laundry. I show up for work every day. That's about it. I have b... Ane Mae's, downtown Independence, KS. Yes, I like it better than Starbuck's (although I enjoy Starbuck's too). I bought a pound of whole beans to bring home for coffee, I got a cup of coffee, and I broke down and ordered my favorite muffin - strawberry white chocolate chip.
24
It had been SO long since I had one, and I seriously did think about ordering a bowl of fruit. One of my favorites.

When we bake potatoes, we roast bulbs of garlic at the same time. It's SO good, and virtually no calories. We just cut the tops off, wrap them in foil, and bake them with the potatoes. When they're done, let them cool a little. Squeeze the garlic out onto your baked potato. It's so good. This was a little scarier than last week. There was THE MOST wicked looking cloud in the southeast. But it was southeast of Independence. Tornadoes move north and east. Of course this was all during my paper route.

I did take cover for awhile. I pulled under a brick carport and sat for awhile listening to the siren's song and tying the plastic bags on my papers. Mostly I was trying to get away from the hail. It was... Mon, 25 Feb 2013 12:41:15 EST Sweatin' to the Oldies 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5230572 I know. It's old. I didn't do aerobics back then. I was an athlete. I swam a mile a day. I road my bike everywhere I went, and I ran. Aerobics videos were lame.

That was 30 years ago. To help me get through withdrawal from the pool being closed for the next month I ordered the Sweatin' to the Oldies collection. They came today, and I just finished my first session with Sweatin' to the Oldies 2. I am sweating, and the floor work was good too.

What I learned from ... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 17:26:07 EST Tweaking the Spark Menu http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5230356 I just might be getting the hang of this.

As you know I HATE eating meals with no hot food, especially on cold days. I had dreaded today. No hot food except for egg whites for breakfast. The weather forecast says today's high will be in the low 30's. I think that's cold.

Soup for lunch just sounded so good, and I was none too enthusiastic about today's snack, so I checked out the soup supply in the pantry. Progresso Vegetable Classics: Minestrone. Perfect. I unch... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 14:02:11 EST Rain Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5229946 The totals are in. We had 1 2/3 inches. Today it is cold and windy. Yesterday my gardener blood was stirring. Today I realize we have a few more weeks to go before we can get out there. It's back to dishes, laundry, dusting and vacuuming. Wed, 30 Jan 2013 09:25:54 EST Rain, Rain, DON'T Go Away http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5229321 It rained ALL day today. It started raining this morning before sunrise, and it rained until 3 this afternoon. I just got back from the grocery store (7 P.M.) I had to put the windshield wipers on intermittent. It's misting. We're supposed to have a wintry mix tonight. I don't care as long as it's wet.

It has to be my imagination. Every time I looked out today the grass in the yard seemed greener than it did when I had looked at it before.

Keep praying for us. We... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 20:48:29 EST Spark Menu: Day 4 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227730 Yuck. Not very good food and not very much of it. I have been hungry almost all day. I was excited about supper. Hot meal. I thought we were having a skimpy lunch because we were going to get to eat more tonight. Wrong. 1/2 servings of everything - the cabbage rolls, the corn, the cornbread. The only thing I had a full serving of was milk. There sure is a pile of dirty dishes in the kitchen for no more than I got to eat. 46

There had better be some celebrating o... Mon, 28 Jan 2013 20:26:24 EST Tea....no sugar http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5227196 It's official. I have finally learned to drink my peppermint tea without sugar. Last summer I would put a teaspoon in. I cut it down to half. Around Thanksgiving I started putting in 1/4 teaspoon. Today is the second time I've had tea in the last 3 days that I have not used any sugar or artificial sweetner.

106 Mon, 28 Jan 2013 13:25:22 EST Spark Menu: Day 3 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5226203 I switched the lunch and supper meals. It's hard for me to imagine having a cold Sunday lunch after church! So, this evening we had a meal I approached with some trepidation. I thought it was one of those weird Spark Menu meals. Romaine lettuce, with walnuts and lots of strawberries. The dressing was 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar and a teaspoon of olive oil. I couldn't imagine putting vinegar on strawberries. It was DELICIOUS. I tore through mine in no time flat. The entire meal w... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 21:15:09 EST
