SEASHELLY's SparkPeople Blog SEASHELLY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Pantry Challenge- Gets a New Twist! After a couple of weeks of examination of all previous weight loss attempts, which worked, which didn't & why.... I came to some conclusions.

1) I tend to eat the same things over and over with little variation - especially when trying to lose weight - getting bored in the process and jump ship.

2) Peer pressure. I'm not holding up as well to peer pressure. Where I work, there's always alot of "free food". Leftover birthday cakes, muffins, food from board meeting... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 13:26:02 EST Pantry Challenge - Derailment!!! The Pantry challenge was good - while it lasted. It sort of got derailed around Christmas.
Meanwhile, I've regained the weight loss during the challenge and added another 10 pounds.

On a positive note - I did last longer than one month on the challenge. Previous attempts rarely lasted more than two weeks!

So, now comes off the gloves. I need to get more serious. However, the stress levels are killing me to the point where I have fallen back into eating o... Thu, 29 Mar 2012 10:23:39 EST Pantry Challenge Shopping Trip 6 & 7 $40.00 (two weeks @$20.00 each) In the end, I decided to go with the two weeks allowance since I didn't go shopping last week and was running low on stuff.

Store#1 6 apples, 5 bananas, 4 oranges, 1 cantelope, 2 green bell peppers, 2 red bell peppers, day old cupcake, and 4 day old danishes. $ 9.94

Store#2 4 cinnamon raisin day old bagels , (a moment of extreme weakness) 3 reese's peanut butter cups (buy 2 get 1 free) $3.33

Store#3 5 cans tuna, 2 lb bag popcorn, 8 oz cheese, 1 day... Sat, 17 Dec 2011 11:39:25 EST Ummmm, where is last week's shopping trip? ummmmm, I updated my checkbook and got some bills paid off and that didn't leave me any money to go shopping with. I think I did have $20, but didn't bother shopping.

So, I've been eating from my freezer, freeing up containers to store new meals up in. I did cash in some points from my Subway card to get a sandwich, chips, & cookie for a supper because I just didn't want to cook. To think, I still have enough points after that to do that again!

The last of my ch... Thu, 15 Dec 2011 12:56:31 EST Observations noticed so far in the Great Pantry Challenge. I went into this challenge as a way to control my food spending and to cut back trips to McDonald's, Subway, the local sub shop and spending $5-$10 on lunches at work.

After one month, I have done that. I bring my lunch from home now, and for the most part, cook and eat dinner at home.

During the 5 weeks, I've only eaten out twice.

Once was a day of bookkeeping at an occasional client - where I wasn't sure about being able to reheat food and I, at that... Tue, 6 Dec 2011 14:01:21 EST Shopping Trips #4 $40 and Shopping Trip #5 $20 I went shopping on November 29th with the $40. I did stock up on meats (ground turkey, chicken, steak, porkchops) - just a small steak cut into three servings and two pork chops. Sometimes when you eat alot of chicken, you just want a taste of something else.

Also with the $40, I bought more coconut oil, 5 cans tuna, butter, cheese and popcorn. And at the last moment, threw in a pommegranate. Total $40.13. (change from prev weeks.)

Is it just me or are the c... Tue, 6 Dec 2011 13:46:52 EST Shopping Trip - Week 4 $40.00 ?????? Here it is Monday - I usually shop on Saturdays, but this weekend, I haven't gone shopping!

Nope. Nada. Still have all my money unspent. Actually, the money is still in my bank account.

I still have plenty of apples and a few oranges left for fruits from my last shopping trip.
I still have plenty of veggies left over too. I think I would like to use them up before going shopping for more.

I finally got around to using up the roasted zuchini & tomato... Mon, 28 Nov 2011 15:41:14 EST Pantry Challenge Week 3 update I finally got around to fixing my scale. It needed new batteries.

Now, I can weigh myself and get an accurate reading. Also, since I have the tanita scale that also measures bmi via whatever test it uses, I can get a bmi rating as well.

So, this morning, I stepped on the scale and read 229.5 pounds and 44% bmi.

Ok.

Well, when I logged in my weight on Sparkpeople, I noticed the last weight I entered was about one year ago. So, in one year, ... Mon, 21 Nov 2011 16:04:37 EST Shopping Trip - Week 3 $20.00 Wow. It's a good thing I still had a lot of veggies still in the fridge. I needed coconut oil and at $8.00 (not $9.00 as I originally thought - there was a price reduction!) that does eat up quite a bit of $20.00. There was no way I could hold out until week 4's $40 trip.

I kept an eye out on fruit this week - as I was out.

Store #1: 5 bananas, 12 oranges (from clementines on up in size), 13 apples (galas, granny smith, red delicious, macs) 1 pommegranate and 1 a... Sat, 19 Nov 2011 12:13:25 EST Pantry Challenge - Week 2 update Here it is Friday and has the week flown by.

This was not a week of cooking. I still have many of the vegetables from last week's shopping trip left untouched. I still have many servings of what I've already cooked during this challenge in the freezer.

I also had a bit of a pickle yesterday - I had to go on a training trip which was followed by my therapy appointments so meals were a bit dodgy and I was not able to bring food, except for snacks. I did "buy" mys... Fri, 18 Nov 2011 08:18:26 EST Shopping Trip - Week 2 $20.00 limit Ok, this time I had a list of some items I would like to try to obtain this week to help stretch things out this week.

This week I snagged:

Store #1: 5 bananas, 6 summer squash, 8 tomatoes, 2 RED bell peppers, butter (only full price item at this store) Total spent $6.59

Store #2: again they didn't have much of a selection, but I did find 4 whole wheat bagels $1.35.

Store #3: 1.6 lbs green beans; 1.5 lbs red grapes; .63 lbs roast beef (half pr... Sat, 12 Nov 2011 10:35:25 EST Pantry Challenge - Week 1 Wednesday Ok, so far so good. No break down trips to McDonalds, Subway, or chinese food.

I will admit to having a little help on tuesday - Work had a management "lunch" meeting. After the meeting, there were some leftover wraps and half sub sandwiches. I snagged a roast beef wrap for Tuesday dinner, since I was going to be working late and had no plans to cook. Later in the afternoon, just before quitting time, there were two more half sub sandwiches still left (tuna), and my co-w... Wed, 9 Nov 2011 19:04:38 EST Pantry Challenge - Day 3 - 4 Fresh on the success of my first week's purchases - the ideas of what to make with what I scored flow like water.

The cold cooked chicken ended up in the crockpot Friday - minus one leg( for fri night dinner) so the next day, I had about 6 cups of chicken broth and meat falling off the bones.

Some of that chicken stock and the breast meat got combined with some celery, onions, garlic, one canned chopped tomatoes, and a bean soup mix that had been in my pantry for god kn... Mon, 7 Nov 2011 09:24:47 EST Shopping Trip - Week 1 $20.00 limit This upcoming week will be interesting to say the least.
Some people may say that shopping in so many different stores is, well, ridiculous, but if you plan on shopping the reduced racks, you gotta look around to see what's available.

This week I snagged:

Stop#1 - Cooked cold chicken, 1.41 pounds bananas total spent $3.21

Stop#2 - 7 valencia oranges, 3 small heads romaine lettuce, tub of butter(fullprice but needed) total spent $4.77

Sto... Sat, 5 Nov 2011 12:12:01 EST Seashelly's Great Pantry Challenge - Starting November 2011 Ok, ok, ok. I'm not really going to try to lose weight, but I'm hoping this "experiment" will help shed some pounds over the months and save me money and change my buying habits. I"ve also been "toying" with this challenge for a while now.

The Great Pantry Challenge November 2011 - October 2012

I've been spending too much money on food. Period. Alot of take out food - groceries, etc. I have not been buying the "right" food either. Too much of the swee... Fri, 4 Nov 2011 11:10:26 EST Another Day - Another Start Well, lets just say I didn't do to well in bootcamp. I really didn't have the various equipment she was using (fitness ball). Money was tight, blah blah blah.

I did receive a Wii Fit!!! I do use it - but not consistantly enough for it to make a difference.
I do enjoy the step aerobics and have unlocked the advance step - where I can set the time - up to 30 minutes right now. I also enjoy the step boxing. Note: not KICK boxing - STEP boxing.

If you saw ... Thu, 9 Jul 2009 14:40:39 EST Sparkpeople New You Boot Camp Here I Come! I've joined the Boot Camp. Hoping that will inspire and motivate me back into exercise.
I've started a new ticker, new weights posted.

I HAVE taken a photo of me, and you will thank me for not posting it here. I'm sorry, the fact is I was brave enough to take the photo. I'm just not brave enough to post it on the internet.

The Challenge for the first day was to create a post outling our goals, before picts, etc so we could have something to look back on... Sat, 3 Jan 2009 13:37:45 EST What? Another New Year? Oh Boy! Again, I'm ending the year heavier than I started it.

Exercise fell by the wayside. Turns out I had developed bone spurs in both my feet, which made some of my exercise routines worthless, since I couldn't go more than 5 minutes before my feet errupted in extreme pain. I also have something - ganglions? - need to get a followup and figure out exactly what's going on in my hands as well.

The feet kept me from walking, and the hands kept me from bicycling. I ... Thu, 1 Jan 2009 11:38:44 EST New Year - New Goals - New Outlook Well, it's the new year. What have I accomplished in 2007? Well.....

1) I ended the year 10 pounds heavier than I started it. Yup, I gained 10 pounds. Most since my last blog entry.

2) I've put on some inches since my last blog entry. I didn't keep up with that exercise routine after all. Something I need to focus on this year.

3) I came to terms with my depression and sought out medical help. I am now on meds.

There are other th... Tue, 1 Jan 2008 11:01:58 EST I lost something lately...... My baby sister got married this past weekend. I had managed to lose a few pounds of the pounds I had recently regained prior to the wedding. A few people commented saying I looked really really good!

During the formal picture taking sessions, My sister had one taken of her, new hubby, the parents and all the siblings and spouse. It's been a long time since we've all been together for a picture. I had someone take a shot on my digital camera as well.

Then yesterda... Mon, 24 Sep 2007 11:45:27 EST Chocolate and the Sugar Demon Gwen's comment on my last entry sparked this thought.

Lately, when I AM ON PROGRAM, and following it correctly, when I log my food in, with the calorie guidelines suggested by Sparkpeople, I find myself with a lot of "wiggle" room. Way too many calories leftover at the end of the day!

When I select the right combination of food, though quite satisfying, leaves me satisfied, not bursting at the seams full, I am quite under the caloric "requirements" for the day. By a... Thu, 31 May 2007 19:13:39 EST Why?? Why.

You manage to get going, get everything going, remain within the boundaries, then wham! Everything's off kilter again.

I blame TOM. (time of month)

Yep, I blame TOM. Those nasty unresisting hormonal changes that just make it impossible to stay the course for more than 3 weeks.

I want chocolate.

Enough said. Tue, 29 May 2007 16:20:21 EST Been a bad bad girl..... This is Work #2 Ok, I've kinda fallen off track. Eating went to .... well, you know where in a handbasket. Some people when they are under alot of stress, don't eat. Me? Moi? I eat. Ok, I admit it. I am a stress eater. There. Deal with it.

Well, the thing is, I'm trying to deal with it. Unless I'm obsessively recording every bite, etc. come online here to Sparkpeople 4-5 times per day, I'll forget. Then slowly, inch by mile, old habits race back in.

I also have to deal wi... Mon, 30 Apr 2007 14:10:29 EST I'm Hungry vs I'm not Hungry. Right now I am hungry. So, I am eating my lunch. Yesterday, well, more like last night, I was not hungry, so I didn't eat what I had planned for an evening snack. Therefore I was way under the range of calories.

Is eating within the range of calories SparkPeople sets out for us daily so important?

In following the CORE plan, I'm finding I'm eating enough, till satisfied, not stuffed, but when I come here to log in my food, I'm way under the calorie range. I'm ... Thu, 5 Apr 2007 12:40:06 EST An Amazing Discovery! A sort of NSV type of discovery. I've been following the CORE plan from WW. So, I plan my day for food. I record what I plan to eat and I'm finding that I am way under in calories.

Then there are the days when I "binge" and eat more than I should have. So, a couple days are over calories, a couple are under, and most times, I'm right in the middle of the range of calories.

Well, yesterday and today for example.... there was a pizza party here in the office... Fri, 30 Mar 2007 13:43:45 EST The Timer is my friend! I had thought of something profound yesterday, but didn't want to add a second entry, and now I've forgotten it. Oh well.

I read somewhere that some people get so wrapped up in reading other people's blogs, entries, message boards, that they forget to record their food, exercising, and find themselves out of time.

Over time, I have found the timer to be my friend. The first 10-15 minutes I can spend recording my own data, food, exercises, weight, etc. Then for the nex... Tue, 27 Mar 2007 08:22:41 EST First Weigh In! Well, I usually weigh myself on Monday mornings. And I am proud to say that I have lost 4 pounds this past week.

Of course, I have to give some credit to TOM. He showed up Saturday afternoon, and my this morning, most of my premenstural water weight gain was gone. But that usually can account for a pound or two. Not four!

Then again, I didn't have my usual chocolate binge during TOM either. And yesterday, I just didn't feel like eating.

Well, it's a... Mon, 26 Mar 2007 08:16:49 EST This is Work! It really is! To have to itemized every bite that passes thru your lips, finding the foods, and sometimes having to enter them yourselves, planning out your day, etc. Timeconsuming!

I think I'm beginning to realize how I dropped out of the program back in January. It was too time consuming, and all I would think about all day was food. Not exactly sure if that what was leading to my binges over the last few weeks causing me to gain 8 pounds since Jan 1 or not. But all th... Fri, 23 Mar 2007 09:46:53 EST Day One - Not so bad. I have actually made it thru day one.

I failed to do the strength exercises planned for today. But I did get in a 15 minute walk during lunch at work. I'm gonna have to find 10 minutes at a time to get in the strength exercises planned.

Now, speaking of those, why is it on the instructions they just assume I have a "step" base lying around my apartment??? I do have resistance bands and I checked those off when asked, but I have no step and several of the SR exercises ... Tue, 20 Mar 2007 21:45:38 EST Help! I've fallen and can't get back up! Well, not really, but that is how it feels. This roller coaster of weight management. Currently having regained about 20 of the 45 pounds I originally lost. Desperately trying not to go back into a higher "weight decade." I am at the top of the rollercoaster and about to plunge into the depths of the beast called "the diet plan".

I get to a certain point in my journey, then I start eating foods I really shouldn't be eating (sweets) and then before I know it, I'm bingeing and...
