Wow, what a fun event. Nearly 8 miles from the Embarcadero, through the city and Golden Gate Park to the finish line at Ocean Beach. The first year I ran it my official time was 2:20:01 and this year my time was 2:09:13. Each year I get a little bit faster and next year I'm going to shoot for under 2 hours.

Physically I don't feel too bad, my hips are a little... Mon, 19 May 2014 17:48:24 EST The line I keep crossing http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5672922 It seems like I always have a weight limit. A certain number that I tell myself that no matter what, I will absolutely never go over. Over the past 2 years as my weight has been slowly creeping up, I keep moving up the number and as of this morning I am 17 lbs over my limit. I tell myself that it's probably water weight or what I ate for dinner the night before, but I ALWAYS find a way to justify it in my mind. So I move my number up about 5 lbs every six months or so. It's not that I'm ... Tue, 15 Apr 2014 15:45:45 EST Note to self: http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5633626 "It's probably not a good idea to run around the side of the house, the walkway is un-even and you might trip and fall and end up in the emergency room!"

Yep, that's exactly what happened. It was a Saturday just like any other...out doing yardwork and enjoyng the nice weather. i was in the front yard and needed a yard waste bag which was in the back yard. I thought I would get in a nice sprint but landed face first on the walkway instead. No broken bones (thank goodness) just... Tue, 25 Feb 2014 17:32:56 EST Post Thanksgiving weight loss??? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5553423 I think I've just achieved the impossible! After celebrating two Thanksgivings (Thursday at our house with my family and Friday with the In-Laws) I hopped on the scale to see what price I paid for all that yummy goodness. What? I lost nearly a pound? When the snacks were out and everyone was enjoying rich dips and chips and crackers with cheese, I stuck to the veggie tray and gobbled up (yes, pun intended) the celery sticks. When it was time for dinner I wasn't completely famished and ke... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 12:09:39 EST Only 54 days until New Year's Eve! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5533104 I just looked at my calendar and realized that there are only 54 days until New Year's Eve and that got me to thinking about resolutions and where I was at this time last year. Well, let's just say I didn't meet my resolution to get back down to 165 pounds. In fact I'm almost 3 pounds heavier than I was on New Year's Eve last year. SOOOOO, my resolution to myself is to lose those 3 pounds by this coming New Year's Eve. I think (or at least I hope) that this is a completely realistic and r... Tue, 5 Nov 2013 16:16:35 EST Registered for 2014 Bay to Breakers http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5528540 I'm so excited, I've just registered for next years Bay to Breakers! This is the fourth year in a row that I've participated and each year I get a little bit better and a little bit faster.

In 2011 it was the 100th anniversary of the Bay to Breakers and I was so excited to be participating in such an event. However somewhere between mile markers 4 and 5 blisters were developing on my heels and my toes were cramping up. I thought "there's no way I'm going to make it" but I did... Thu, 31 Oct 2013 17:29:50 EST Bridge To Bridge 10k in San Francisco http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5506956 Sunday October 6th was the much anticipated Bridge to Bridge 10k in San Francisco. It's known as America's most beautiful run and if you ran it you would know why. The weather was amazing....86 degrees, sunny and clear (good thing I remembered my sunscreen!) And the views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge were breathtaking.
My finish time wasn't so great (1:40:58) but I finished, and that's what I'm focusing on. I started off by jogging the first 1/2 mile or so, but then walke... Mon, 7 Oct 2013 12:04:03 EST I've been gone for a while, but I'm back! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5489332 Hi everyone, it has been so long since since I've "Sparked", six months to be exact. I finally landed a job which means two things:
1) I'm sedentary all day. As much as I try to get up and move as much as possible, I'm basically at a desk all day.
2) I mindlessly snack all day. I would constantly reach for things like nuts or chips or crackers. Combine this with being sedentary and you've got a recipe for disaster, which is exactly what happened. In six months I packed on abo... Wed, 18 Sep 2013 13:41:22 EST The Biggest Loser 5k Here I Come! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5251612 I'm so excited that I've registered for The Biggest Loser 5k in Sacramento. I know, I know, it's only a 5k but I'm excited to be a part of an event that is sponsored by The Biggest Loser. A show that has inspired me since Season 1 Episode 1. From what I've read about the event it's going to be nothing but positive energy and encouragement, which is something we can all use a dose of. No judgement, just people getting to the finish line as best they can. I've got 4 weeks to train for it a... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 12:47:41 EST How I plan to sneak in a workout on Christmas Eve http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5166672 The holidays are upon us and that means a lot of extra snacks, rich foods and cocktails. This year, instead of everyone vegging out in front of the tv at my sister's house watching A Christmas Story marathon (within arms reach of the snack table of course), I decided that I'm going to bring Just Dance for Wii with a couple of extra controllers. That will get everyone off the couch burning some holiday calories and having fun. I know a few of my relatives will appreciate the opportunity to ... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 17:17:05 EST Is my scale sexist? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5134289 I have one of those electronic scales that measures your weight and body fat percentage. You set it up by entering your sex, height and age. This morning before stepping onto the scale I accidentally hit the button set up for my husband but didn't really think it mattered so I stepped on the scale. Hmm, it said my body fat was 17%. I stepped off and waited for it to reset, then pushed the button set up for me. Now it says my body fat is 38.5%? Really? Of course that's more in line with... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 17:13:32 EST My very first (and not last) 10k! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5096595 Last Sunday I participated in San Francisco's 3rd annual Bridge to Bridge 10k, and what an awesome experience! We went from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge and back to Crissy Field. From the starting line you couldn't even see the Golden Gate Bridge and I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to make it, but I did! I ran with my best friend and our mantra throughout the entire race was "We can do this. We will do this. We ARE doing this!" It was awesome. My official time wasn't ... Fri, 12 Oct 2012 14:37:39 EST Inspired by the Olympics! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4990800 There is something about seeing athletes with zero body fat and pushing themselves to the absolute limit that really inspires me. I feel like I give it all I've got during my 30-40 minute workout, but when I look at the faces of all the athletes and realize what a wimp I am. Okay, I'm old enough to be their grandparent, but that's beside the point. I just need to suck it up. If I want the results I have to work for it! Sat, 28 Jul 2012 18:08:48 EST Not ready to squeeze into that wet suit just yet http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4928107 Here it is mid-June and the vacation pounds I gained last April are still with me....and then some. My "healthy weight" is 165 and I somehow managed to hit 179 and I know that come hell or high water I wasn't going to get to 180. I always thought 170 was my maximum I would allow, but I kind of blew that one out of the water. How did I allow this to happen? I've been working out hard every day for at least 30 minutes and I thought I was watching what I was eating. But then I realized that... Fri, 15 Jun 2012 17:37:04 EST 9 days in Maui = 3.4 lbs. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4859767 I guess that's not TOO bad considering that I also took a vacation from my diet. That's not to say that I didn't make wise choices while eating out, but let's face it I only chose healthy options if that's what I truly wanted. I'm hoping that at least a pound is due to water weight, we flew in last night and I drank a ton of water before, during and after our flight. Now that I'm back to eating home cooked meals we'll see what the scale holds in store for me tomorrow. Now if only I can ge... Mon, 30 Apr 2012 17:49:12 EST Just 5 pounds to go....then what? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4828886 I have less than 2 weeks to get down to my goal weight before going on vacation, but then I realized.....then what? Will I miraculously stay at my goal weight during my entire vacation? No, it just means that I reached my goal the day I left but what's the scale going to read when I come home? I can blame the heat and humidity for my clothes not fitting right, but I know that it's living the vacation lifestyle that's going to sneak the pounds right back on. The best I can do is to stay as... Tue, 10 Apr 2012 14:31:21 EST Shopping for a new bathing suit.....now that's gotta motivate me! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4814032 Tomorrow I go shopping for a new bathing suit. My vacation is only a few short weeks away and I know standing in the dressing room under those flourescent lights wearing a bathing suit is the best motivator there is!!!!! Sat, 31 Mar 2012 19:53:32 EST Time to mix things up! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4666865 Last October I got "The Biggest Loser Challenge" for Wii for my birthday and have been doing the workouts every day ever since. Well, with the occasional missed day here and there. For Christmas I received "EA Sports Active 2" and boy did I feel a difference the first time I used it. For about a week after using it for the first time, the muscles in the backs of my arms were really sore. I guess I hadn't used those muscles in a while. It was a good wake up call to realize that even thoug... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 19:17:21 EST I gained 4 lbs this week!!!!!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4592728 Really? Four pounds in one week? And it's not even Thanksgiving yet? I knew I had fallen off the food wagon a bit this week, but four pounds worth? I gotta step up my game. Sun, 20 Nov 2011 17:09:35 EST I missed my morning workout....and I really do miss it. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4581249 We had lots of things planned for today, an it started with meeting friends for breakfast. I REALLY didn't want to get up to an alarm on a Saturday morning, so I made the decision to forfeit my morning workout. At least we got all of our errands done, but my workouts have become such a part of my daily routine that I really miss it. I'll just have to make up for it tomorrow! Sat, 12 Nov 2011 19:14:58 EST Finally....a healthy body image! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4526793 It took 50 years, but I am finally happy with my body. Sure I've got my problem area's (and who doesn't), but when I look in the mirror I'm pretty proud of what I see and that's a whole new concept for me. Even when I was in my 20's and weighed all of about 115 pounds I thought I was fat and wouldn't be caught dead in a bathing suit. Oh to be young and thin again. I guess with age comes wisdom, because now I don't really care who sees me in a bathing suit. I'm certainly not trying to imp... Sun, 9 Oct 2011 13:03:47 EST Almost 2 weeks later and I'm still "normal"? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4474458 Wow, I must say I'm feeling quite motivated. I mixed up my excersize routine and it seems to have made a difference. Instead of doing 2-3 very long workouts in a week, I'm now working out every day for about 15-20 minutes. It's gotten me out of my slump and I've shedded those extra 5 pounds I couldn't seem to lose. So if you've hit a plateau, you might want to give that a try. Thu, 8 Sep 2011 21:30:32 EST "That's Normal" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4446751 About once a week or so I use my Wii Fit to weigh in, but the strangest thing happened this morning. When it was measuring my BMI the little automated voice didn't say "that's overweight" (which I hear so often that I block it out), it said "that's normal". Hmmm, did I actually lose enough weight to be back in the normal range? I was beginning to think I would never hear that I was at a normal weight. But hey, I think this is worth celebrating!!!!! Wed, 24 Aug 2011 21:51:31 EST Getting back to my passion for diving! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4412395 For any of you folks who are scuba certified, I'm sure you can understand what I mean. My sister has been my long time dive buddy and the last few times we've been diving she's been nervous and slightly panicked. The last time we went diving was in Catalina last May. Only about 10 minutes into the dive her fin came off and that was it for her - she wanted to surface and end the dive. Well, I've talked her into going diving with me at the end of this month. At this point, I don't even car... Sun, 7 Aug 2011 13:47:29 EST I GAINED Weight????? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4372641 I've just weighed myself and was shocked to see that I've gained 2.5 lbs in the last 3 weeks. What????? How can that be? I'm drinking lots of water, logging everything that I put in my mouth and tracking all my exercise. My clothes are fitting better and I've lost about an inch and a half in my overall measurements. I know, I know, muscle weighs more than fat, but I'm not building any muscle. I'm hoping that I'm just retaining a little water. Will drinking more water help to flush it o... Tue, 19 Jul 2011 13:04:49 EST A Hard Time Staying On Track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4370449 I don't know if it's a mental block or just the thought of wanting to lose weight, but lately I want to eat all the time. Maybe it's the warm weather....every time I turn around someone is having some sort of get together or barbecue. Food is all around me and I find certain things really hard to pass up. I'm not a big fan of the sweets (thank goodness) but I have a weakness for anything salty, crispy, or cooked on a grill. Can I get over this hump? Isn't the motivation of fitting into m... Mon, 18 Jul 2011 14:20:13 EST An Early Milestone http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4345533 I joined Sparkpeople only eight days ago and I'm already seeing a small but significant difference. I was able to put on my favorite shorts that I haven't been able to squeeze into for the last two summers. Every once in a while, when I'm feeling "skinny", I would take them out of the drawer and try them on. I haven't been able to wear them since the summer of 2008, and now they actually fit again! The scale doesn't really show any difference so maybe it's all the extra water I'm drinking... Wed, 6 Jul 2011 18:43:25 EST A New Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4343234 Yesterday was the 4th of July. It was lot's of fun, but I'm so glad it's over. We had family over for a barbeque and there was just way too much food. It's tough to stay on track on days like that. We prepared healthier options for snacks and I opted for water instead of beer or wine. I'm kind of proud of myself for that. I even managed to go for a mile and a half walk with my sister in law. Even though it was close to 100 degrees outside, it was still nice to get out and get moving. ... Tue, 5 Jul 2011 19:02:15 EST Back on track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4338966 I had a great workout this morning and now I'm ready to face the world. I even splurged on a cute new pair of sandals today. Well, I didn't exactly splurge....they were only $9.00, but they're comfy and I want to take them out for a spin around the neighborhood. That'll be good since I don't come anywhere near 10,000 steps a day. Sun, 3 Jul 2011 14:48:15 EST A snag already? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4335763 Here it is, only day 2 and I've already hit a snag. I got up this morning all set to put on my workout gear, but every bit of it was in the hamper. So instead I jumped in the shower and got ready to start my day. Am I already looking for excuses? Hmmmm, perhaps. Especially considering that was almost 8 hours ago and I haven't done the laundry yet. Okay, time to get it in gear. At least I'll have some steps to log at the end of the day! Fri, 1 Jul 2011 16:44:13 EST I'm here! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4333198 Okay, so now I'm registered which means I need to get serious. If it's in writing then it's real, right? I started off my day doing The Biggest Loser Challenge workout, tomorrow I'll tackle EA Sports. I tell ya, if it weren't for my Wii I probably wouldn't workout nearly as much as I do. What a great investment. I'll see if Al will go for a nice walk with me today, it's not supposed to be too hot so it should be a good day for it. Yeah summer! Thu, 30 Jun 2011 14:48:13 EST
