Yesterday was the 103rd annual Bay 2 Breakers race in San Francisco and the 4th year in a row that I've participated. Wow, what a fun event. Nearly 8 miles from the Embarcadero, through the city and Golden Gate Park to the finish line at Ocean Beach. The first year I ran it my official time was 2:20:01 and this year my time was 2:09:13. Over the past 2 years as my weight has been slowly creeping up, I keep moving up the number and as of this morning I am 17 lbs over my limit. I tell myself that it's probably water weight or what I ate for dinner the night before, but I ALWAYS find a way to justify it in my mind. So I move my number up about 5 lbs every six months or so. I think I've just achieved the impossible! After celebrating two Thanksgivings (Thursday at our house with my family and Friday with the In-Laws) I hopped on the scale to see what price I paid for all that yummy goodness. What? I just looked at my calendar and realized that there are only 54 days until New Year's Eve and that got me to thinking about resolutions and where I was at this time last year. It's known as America's most beautiful run and if you ran it you would know why. The weather was amazing....86 degrees, sunny and clear (good thing I remembered my sunscreen!) Fri, 14 Dec 2012 17:17:05 EST Is my scale sexist? I have one of those electronic scales that measures your weight and body fat percentage. You set it up by entering your sex, height and age. This morning before stepping onto the scale I accidentally hit the button set up for my husband but didn't really think it mattered so I stepped on the scale. Hmm, it said my body fat was 17%. I stepped off and waited for it to reset, then pushed the button set up for me. Now it says my body fat is 38.5%? Really? Of course that's more in line with... Tue, 13 Nov 2012 17:13:32 EST My very first (and not last) 10k! Last Sunday I participated in San Francisco's 3rd annual Bridge to Bridge 10k, and what an awesome experience! We went from the Bay Bridge to the Golden Gate Bridge and back to Crissy Field. From the starting line you couldn't even see the Golden Gate Bridge and I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to make it, but I did! My "healthy weight" is 165 and I somehow managed to hit 179 and I know that come hell or high water I wasn't going to get to 180. I guess that's not TOO bad considering that I also took a vacation from my diet. We had lots of things planned for today, an it started with meeting friends for breakfast. I REALLY didn't want to get up to an alarm on a Saturday morning, so I made the decision to forfeit my morning workout. Sure I've got my problem area's (and who doesn't), but when I look in the mirror I'm pretty proud of what I see and that's a whole new concept for me. Sun, 9 Oct 2011 13:03:47 EST Almost 2 weeks later and I'm still "normal"? Wow, I must say I'm feeling quite motivated. I mixed up my excersize routine and it seems to have made a difference. Instead of doing 2-3 very long workouts in a week, I'm now working out every day for about 15-20 minutes. It's gotten me out of my slump and I've shedded those extra 5 pounds I couldn't seem to lose. So if you've hit a plateau, you might want to give that a try. When it was measuring my BMI the little automated voice didn't say "that's overweight" (which I hear so often that I block it out), it said "that's normal". I was able to put on my favorite shorts that I haven't been able to squeeze into for the last two summers. Every once in a while, when I'm feeling "skinny", I would take them out of the drawer and try them on. I haven't been able to wear them since the summer of 2008, and now they actually fit again! It was lot's of fun, but I'm so glad it's over. We had family over for a barbeque and there was just way too much food. It's tough to stay on track on days like that. We prepared healthier options for snacks and I opted for water instead of beer or wine. I'm kind of proud of myself for that. I even managed to go for a mile and a half walk with my sister in law.
