SCRAPPINPOLLY's SparkPeople Blog SCRAPPINPOLLY's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Mid-week check in I have been doing very well on my eating and exercising. I joined a few challenges and they really help to keep me focused!! I've also been detoxing from sugar and man, I am feeling the difference. I never had a soda problem, but I've increased my water intake because it's been pretty hot here, and I am also feeling a big difference. I am wondering if I wasn't getting enough before.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful first week of June!! Wed, 8 Jun 2016 10:09:49 EST Summer vacation is over So, my summer vacation is officially over until June 24. I signed up to teach summer school and the next two days are professional development days for us to get ready for students on Monday. I am excited and a little sad that my next few weeks will be spent in a classroom, but it will be worth it to see these kids progress and not have to be retained. Wed, 1 Jun 2016 09:33:01 EST No Sugar Challenge! Well, I'm starting a no sugar challenge. It's not that I eat a lot of sugar, but that I eat unnecessary sugar. So, I'm going to detox from it. I am also rejoining Anytime Fitness today!! I want to get rid of these last pounds.

I hope everyone has a wonderful last day of May! Tue, 31 May 2016 08:53:04 EST Done pretty well My daughters, grand princess, and I went to Utah to visit my sister and to go to the zoo to celebrate all three of their birthdays. I did pretty well watching my eating as well as drinking my water. I am going to sign up at Anytime Fitness tomorrow! I am determined to keep this weight off and get the rest off to reach my goal! Mon, 30 May 2016 20:58:35 EST Been away awhile! Well, I've been away a long time. I started teaching, and have had some personal issues come up. But, I am back in full swing. I probably won't be as active as I was before, but I will check in daily to keep track of things.

I am now teaching 1st grade at the local elementary school. I am super thrilled about this and will be starting work on my Masters in the fall. It's been a crazy time for me, but I love it! As a result, I have gained 36 lbs back - but that ends today!! Sat, 28 May 2016 12:29:06 EST Another month! Wow! Another month has gone by!! This year is just breezing by isn't it?

It's been a month of fun and reunion for me. I was able to go to my cousin's wedding and see family that I haven't seen for a long time! Some of my relatives even asked who I was because they didn't recognize me. That was an amazing feeling!

Things here are still going great! I am working every day and classes are going well. I made the Dean's List and was offered a scholarship! So, the light at th... Mon, 10 Mar 2014 10:05:35 EST Happy February 1! Happy February 1 everyone! I do hope this month is a great one for you all! This month, I'm going to be concentrating on tracking my food. I haven't been as good this month. I can give all the excuses in the world, but the simple fact is, I slacked off and got lazy. I need to track, it's what keeps me maintaining my weight loss.

As this month rolls around, I think of love. It's the month of love isn't it? There are many people and things that I love. I love my Lord and Savior, my ... Sat, 1 Feb 2014 10:56:48 EST Putting myself first! I was reading some blogs today and I read one where a gal was having a hard time putting herself first. This is very hard, especially when you have others who depend on you. It was very hard for me because I have a husband, children, students, and friends who depend on me. But, I started putting myself first and you know what - my family, students, and friends have all stood behind me. They have supported me in that effort.

Putting yourself first doesn't mean you are selfish - it m... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 11:27:46 EST I'm still here! I am not too good at blogging. I am so busy that I forget to update all my friends on what's going on with me. So, here goes.

I am in a contest called Great in 8 and have been working on that for three weeks. It's a simple contest and I'm on a team with three other ladies. It's been great getting to know them better.

Work is going great. My students all tested this week and they are improving, which is always a good thing. I enjoy them so much and have had a wonderful ti... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 01:07:44 EST Happy 2014!! Wow, December just breezed right on by. I was busy with school, work, and community events and before I know it, Christmas was here. Wow!

My daughter had her ultrasound and we found out that the baby is a GIRL!!! Woo hoo!! I am so excited!!!

I got a little off track with eating in December. Most of my time was spent at rehearsal for the Christmas musical, to school, or to work, so eating was touch and go, but activity was through the roof.

I hope this year i... Wed, 1 Jan 2014 11:32:07 EST Wow! I can't believe it's been so long since I last blogged! This semester has totally kicked my rear and I've been super busy with coursework. You would have thought it would take this much? Well, yea, I did! LOL

Things have been going well here. My son got married on halloween. It was a nice wedding and I really love my new daughter-in-law. Then, they found themselves an apartment and moved out. That was sad for me, but I knew one day it would happen.

Things on the work fr... Sat, 30 Nov 2013 11:26:46 EST Ugh! So, life here has been a little down. My daughter informed me that she's pregnant and while I am happy for her, I wish she were married and better yet that I liked her boyfriend. I fear for her and my grandchild because he is a controlling jerk. It hurts me to know how her life is going to go and be powerless to help her.

My hubby was furloughed. The joys of federal employment. It really irritates me the state this country is in and it makes me mad that the common hard worker is ge... Sat, 12 Oct 2013 12:12:40 EST Life is great! I know it's been a while since I posted. I have been so super busy with teaching and school but I am loving it. I love my students and I love furthering my education.

My son and his fiance' have finally set the official wedding date! They will be getting married on October 31 at 4:30. I can't believe my baby boy is getting married. But, I really do love his fiance'. She has been good for him and I think he for her.

Weight loss is still going pretty steady. I have been ... Sun, 29 Sep 2013 10:51:13 EST Impromptu roadtrip So I had to take an impromptu road trip to St. George this weekend for a funeral. A friend of mine was out riding his bike training for a triathlon and was struck by a car. He was only 36 years old and the father of four little ones. This man was a big guy and was told that he needed to lose some weight. So he started training for triathlons. He participated in over 55 in the last three years and finally won the Ironman this summer. He lived his life to the fullest, chasing his dreams, and re... Sat, 7 Sep 2013 08:43:02 EST I love September! I just love September! I have no idea why this is my favorite month, it just is. I love it! Maybe it's because the air is crisper and cooler; maybe it's because the earth is splashed with beautiful, vibrant color; maybe it's because my favorite sport of the entire year starts, yea football! It just fills me with so much hope! I love it!

I hope that you all are having a great week! I know I may not get to visit you all as often as I'd like, but I do think about you. I thank you for ... Thu, 5 Sep 2013 09:07:09 EST A great quote I saw this quote recently and I love it!

"Sometimes your only mode of transportation is a leap of faith."

I really love this because it's so true! When I started this journey, I took a huge leap of faith. It isn't easy to put yourself out there, but I made my journey to a healthier life a public one. I felt that by doing so, I could not only get support and inspiration I needed as well as be accountable to someone. It's been quite a ride, but one that has been very rewar... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 11:28:05 EST First week of school My first week of school both in the classroom and as a college student are behind me and I have to say it was a great week! I love my students and my classes are pretty good. I know that once the semester gets going, it's going to be harder, but for now, I'm holding my own.

I had an NSV this week. I had a dress that I love and wore to a wedding. It was so big on me that I had to pin it to my bra. So, I went to the store where I bought it and looked for one in a smaller size. The on... Sun, 1 Sep 2013 12:13:55 EST What a day! What a day this has been!! It started out going to the health fair for the school district employees. We had the basic stuff done like blood pressure, weight, BMI, then blood work, and then hearing and vision tests. After that, I had to go to the bakery and pick up the refreshments for our Back to School night. Then I would over to the school and helped get the classroom ready for Back to School night. Whew!

Our Back to School night began at 6:30 and it was awesome. I got to see a ... Fri, 23 Aug 2013 09:33:07 EST Almost mid-August! I can't believe it's almost mid-August! I am SO ready to start school again. I'll be teaching third grade and I can't wait. We go back on August 22, but school starts on August 26 and it can't come fast enough. I am SO ready! I am also finishing up my SPED credentials, so this semester is going to be a busy one.

I've been thinking a lot lately about nutrition. The reason being that my gym has a Facebook page, and recently put something on there that I totally disagree with. When I ... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 13:52:41 EST Rap up The Relay for Life was this weekend and what a wonderful turnout we had. We have over 460 participants and made $83,000. It was such an honor being on the committee and helping to organize it and I look forward to it next year!

I've been taking a music and physics class and this is the last week of classes. It's kept me SO busy that I haven't had time for much, but once this week is over, I'll be back in the Spark saddle again.

How is your summer going? Mine has been bus... Mon, 15 Jul 2013 15:09:20 EST Busy month! Man, I can't believe it's been over a month since I blogged! It's been such a busy one here. Now that school is out, I should have more time.

Things are going great. I went to camp last week with my church group of young women. It was a really wonderful week and I got to know some of the girls a little better. It sure got cold up on top of the mountain though.

My physics and music classes started and physics is really kicking my butt. But, I will keep pressing on. I am... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 09:29:59 EST Happy Mama's Day! Today is Mother's Day and I am missing my mama. I wish I could be in Texas with her, but I can't right now. I'll be there in August. I am grateful for my mom and all that she has done for and taught me. She is an amazing lady and I am blessed to have her in my life.

I went to St. George and spent some time with my oldest daughter. It was a nice day and I always love spending time with her. This morning, my youngest brought me breakfast in bed and my son came in and spent time with ... Sun, 12 May 2013 11:59:24 EST Busy week! Wow, what a busy week. I only had enough time to come here and log my food and activity. I've missed my sparking!! But, it was a great week!

My student scored a 100% on the spelling bee pre-test which meant that she qualified to be in the spelling bee! She was awesome!! She made it through to one round of 20 and then entered the tie breaker round where she was eliminated on the third word. She took it all so well and was just happy to be a part of it.

Thursday was Cowboy... Sat, 4 May 2013 09:20:32 EST What a day! Man, what a day. My young lady had some issues today and lost her cool a few times. It really is stressful, but I have to let her know how has the upper hand. I have to get up at 5:00 to go to St. George to see my daughter. Man, it's going to be a long weekend. I am so tired.

In other news, I am still doing well on my program and feeling great. Today was a little tough for me because the school had Krispy Kreme doughnuts. Oh boy, doughnuts are a weakness of mine, especially Krispy ... Thu, 25 Apr 2013 23:30:38 EST Fabulous day! I started my new position on Thursday and at first, I have to say that I was NOT liking it. It didn't feel right and I was really thinking I made the wrong choice. During the course of the day, my attitude changed. My student is such a darling girl. At the end of the day, I got two pieces of artwork from her, two hugs, and told that I was going to be missed during the weekend. This is huge for an autistic child. I knew right then and there that I was put there to help this young 2nd grader. I... Fri, 19 Apr 2013 03:42:48 EST Mixed emotions Yesterday, I got a phone call early in the morning. I wasn't due to work until 11:30, and this call came in at 7:45. It was the secretary for a local elementary school asking me if I was interested in a permanent position. She said that the principal requested me for the job and did I want it. My entire schedule was filled with jobs, so I told her that I needed to try and reschedule the jobs.

Now, I know I should feel honored about this. This is permanent work, and I no longer have... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 09:27:42 EST I survived! Yesterday I had to teach the kindergarten class! The morning class was filled with many behavioral challenges, but I got through it. It's so funny how you can follow the teacher's plan to a T and there's always a kid that says "We're not supposed to do that right now." LOL I finally told them that I was doing what the teacher told me to do and it was ok.

As I worked, I realized that I was walking all over that classroom, all over that school (the kindergarten is in an out building ... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 11:15:25 EST One year surgiversary Yesterday, I reached my one year surgiversary. It's been quite a year, and a lot of changes have been made in not only my body, but also in my outlook of life. I am a much happier person, I am a more productive person, and I am a person who finds value in herself once more. It's amazing how changes like this can do that.

I wouldn't trade this past year for anything. Yes, I made some mistakes, yes I have fallen, but I just got back up and went right on going.

So, today as... Wed, 10 Apr 2013 18:31:46 EST Friday happenings Today was the end of our spring break for the school district. Mine was spent at the funeral of a dear friend, and helping with the family lunch afterwards.

Then I came home to find out that my own mother is in the hospital. I don't know what I'm going to do with her. She is so stubborn and doesn't want to worry her children, but doesn't she realize how irritating it is for us as her children when she keeps stuff like this from us.

In other news, I felt so pretty at the ... Fri, 5 Apr 2013 17:22:41 EST 2x is too big? Wow! I am in shock! I went to St. George to visit my daughter this weekend, and I forgot to bring a dress. So, I went to Walmart and bought a 2x dress. It is a little too big. When did this happen? It's a great feeling, but it's such a cute dress and they didn't have a smaller size.

I'm up to walking two hours a day now and it feels wonderful! I wear my Skechers shape ups and go for it. I know they proved those shoes don't do what they claimed, but in their defense, they are comfo... Wed, 3 Apr 2013 15:20:00 EST Allergy season strikes I woke up this morning with a very scratchy and tender throat. I went to take a shower, and noticed that my sinuses are also hurting. Yep, it's allergy season. I guess that means I'll be heading off to the store to buy some Sudafed after my shower.

In my weight loss news, when I first started walking, I wore my New Balance walking shoes. They were so comfortable and I loved them. But, since I've lost the weight, my feet have shrunk. Who knew? LOL I had bought a pair of the Skecher... Sat, 30 Mar 2013 09:49:58 EST Spring break is here! Spring break is here for our school district, so I'll be heading down to St. George to visit my oldest daughter. She'll be cutting my hair and I hope it turns out ok.

This week was a full work week for me and I am a little tired, but not nearly as tired as I used to get. I love being back in the classroom and have really missed it. Some of the kiddos are a little mouthy, but, I put them in their place pretty quickly.

I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend. Mine wil... Fri, 29 Mar 2013 10:47:51 EST Busy week! This week has been busy for me. I spent two days at the elementary school and I am tired. LOL But, I love the kiddos, so I had a good time. Then today, I'll be at the high school. Tomorrow, I'm heading to Vegas with the youth group for the weekend. Then next week, I have a full teaching week.

I love all the work and I love the opportunities I've had to get back into the classroom. Things on the lifestyle are going great. I've sticking to my plan, getting in the exercise, and my hai... Thu, 21 Mar 2013 08:57:20 EST Weight loss surgery myths debunked You know, i was reading a blog today and some of the comments left were just plain uninformative. I feel that as a weight loss surgery patient, I need to debunk some of these so-called ideas about weight loss surgery.

1. Weight loss surgery is a shortcut to weight loss. Really? This is supposed to be a shortcut? Many insurance companies/surgeons require three months of pre-op dietary counseling in order to qualify. Then you have to do your pre-op diet, your pre-op classes, and all ... Tue, 12 Mar 2013 19:33:34 EST March goals I haven't posted my March goals here yet, I guess it's time I do that.

Here they are:
1. Work as much as possible
2. Increase my protein intake
3. Take my vitamins and supplements
4. Get my butt to the gym
5. Enjoy the beauty of March

I hope you all have a wonderful day! This week has been busy, but it's been very nice to be back in the classroom teaching. I sure have missed it. Wed, 6 Mar 2013 09:30:46 EST Walking galore This weekend was a busy one. I went to Utah with my youngest daughter to pick up my son for spring break. We decided to do some shopping and man, I'm tired. We went to Wal-mart and bought some craft stuff; we went to JC Penney and bought some clothes. This is the first time in many years that I was able to buy some clothes someplace other than Woman Within. Woo hoo!!

Then we went to the Apple store to buy iPads. Then of course, we got my son, and he needed to do some shopping. So, ... Mon, 4 Mar 2013 09:24:06 EST Freedom... My husband and I recently came into some money. So, we took that money and paid off all our unnecessary debt. It felt so good to pay off all these debts, but at the same time, it felt liberating to be free from all the stress that comes from owing money and only being able to make minimum monthly payments. So, this got me to thinking of other ways that I have found freedom.

First, I found freedom from the bonds of being trapped in my 508 lb body. Since losing over 200 lbs, I have ... Fri, 1 Mar 2013 10:10:34 EST Be you! I recently saw this quote and I love it: "Be the best version of you. Right here, right now."

This is some of the best advice that I have ever read. No matter what we do in our lives, we need to be the best version of us here and now. It doesn't matter the successes we have in life, if we aren't our best selves, it won't mean anything.

My life this past 10 months has made dramatic changes. During this entire 10 months, I have refined who my best self is and I have to ad... Tue, 26 Feb 2013 07:23:17 EST Bittersweet weekend This is a bittersweet weekend for me. My oldest daughter will be leaving tomorrow to start her education at Paul Mitchell The School. I'll miss her so much! I am a little worried about her because she's sad about leaving her boyfriend (I am happy about that) and she's nervous about living away from home. I hope that once she gets settled and starts her education that she'll be ok. It's always hard to move to a new place and live with people you aren't used to, but she suffers from a depressio... Sat, 23 Feb 2013 08:41:41 EST Another did I actually do that moment So, I started working as a teacher in the school district. Yesterday, I had to go to the middle school which is nothing but steps, steps, and more steps. As I walked the halls, I found that I was actually taking the steps and I wasn't getting nearly as winded as I did before. This is HUGE my friends. I was always the "park as close as possible" "take the elevator" kind of gal. It feels SO good to be in control of me and not be bound by my weight!

Fri, 22 Feb 2013 11:35:07 EST Valentine's Day 2013 I sure hope that everyone had a great valentine's day! I took my oldest daughter out for lunch and we had a wonderful time. I sure love spending time with her.

Did you all read the article on the blog about eating chocolate? I loved it because I have never felt guilty about eating chocolate and still don't. I only eat a piece, but I don't feel bad about it and this article made me feel better. LOL

I can't believe it's the middle of February already! Wow, 2013 is slipping... Fri, 15 Feb 2013 00:27:38 EST Wow, did I really do that? So, I am working on getting certified to work at the local Headstart office here in town. One of the requirements is that I have to be tested for TB and be up to date on immunizations. The other day when I was due to go, my daughter who used the car that day wasn't home. So, guess what I did? I walked there!! Did I really do that? I can't believe that I did! A year ago, there was NO way that I would walk anywhere except to the car and back into my house. This year, I walked to the public heal... Sat, 9 Feb 2013 12:46:37 EST NSVs Yesterday, I noticed an NSV that I haven't even been considering. Let me tell you about it. I have been working on getting my teaching license here in town. So, I finally have all my paperwork in order, so I needed to run several errands yesterday to finalize everything to send it in.

I noticed that as I went from one place to the other, getting in and out of the car that I wasn't getting winded AND that I wasn't getting tired. I ever went to the store and did some grocery shoppin... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 11:06:49 EST February already I can't believe it's February already! This year is already whizzing passed. January was a good month for me. I hope it was a good one for you all.

My goals for this month are to get caught up on my crochet work; and continue on my weight loss journey. It's been nine months since my surgery and I can't believe the changes in my attitude. The one very important thing that I've learned throughout this process is that I am worth the time and effort put into this.

So, that i... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 01:00:54 EST Only you... My friend Jennie said this on her facebook wall, and I love it!! Wonderful words to live by.

"Friends... at the end of the day, the truth is this~ only YOU can move you, only YOU can feel you, only YOU can live you and only YOU can change you!!"

I have found this to be true. Only I can move myself whether emotionally or physically. Only I can do it. Nobody can do it for me. If I choose not to move, then I don't have anyone else to blame but myself for not moving ahead. <... Sat, 26 Jan 2013 11:37:43 EST What a week! What a week I've had. I decided to do some crocheting for my Relay for Life team. I got over 60 orders! Wow! My hand is so cramped from all the hooking! LOL

In other news, I can't believe that I am almost out of the 280s. It has been such an amazing adventure and learning experience. I have never felt better and my confidence has risen so much!

I'm still walking at home because it's been incredibly cold here. I do miss the elliptical though.

I hope everyone h... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 23:18:24 EST Two weeks into 2013 So we're two weeks into 2013 and it's been a pretty good two weeks. Work has picked up, the weight loss is going great, and I'm feeling good.

We've been having negative temperatures here, so I've been walking at home with my Leslie Sansone. That cold is just not good for my arthritic joints. But, I'm feeling awesome.

Things are going well on the nutrition front. I'm still struggling to get my protein in, but it will come. I still can't tolerate eggs, and my water consump... Tue, 15 Jan 2013 00:12:39 EST 2012: Year in Review When I think about this past year, I think of all the ways that my life has changed. This time last year, I was preparing to start my pre-op diet so that I could get my RNY gastric bypass. I weighed 508 lbs and barely ever left my house. I hardly got up and moved, and I didn't do anything for myself like get water, food, etc.

Here it is one year later and my life has changed tremendously. I am over 200 lbs down. I get my own water, food, and I hardly ever stay at home. I walk arou... Mon, 31 Dec 2012 12:51:08 EST Merry Christmas to all! I probably won't be online too much the rest of the day. I've done my desserts, but as is our family tradition, I'll be rolling tamales and making enchiladas soon for Christmas Eve dinner. So, I wanted to come on here and wish you all a very Merry Christmas, happy holidays, or whatever your holiday greeting preference is! I hope that 2013 is a good one for all of us! Mon, 24 Dec 2012 15:06:57 EST 46 years old! You know, this time last year, I would have told you I felt more like 80 than 45. Now, today as I celebrate my 46th birthday and I am over 200 lbs down, I feel more like I'm 30. I have never felt better in my life.

So, to all my SP friends, don't ever give up! You are totally worth the time and effort, and yes tears and pain!! I will be here to support each and every one of you!! You all encourage me in ways that you can't imagine and I have learned so much from you all!!
<B... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 12:37:25 EST
