SCOOTERXS's SparkPeople Blog SCOOTERXS's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Flavor "Kick" Lots of salad eating going on these days so I'm always trying to keep things interesting. Yesterday while grabbing some greens at the corner grocery, this basil plant spoke to me... "buy me, I'm your friend" (or something of that nature). SO, good product positioning store manager, that basil plant was another successful sale!

I'd love to keep a "kitchen garden" right outside my door, but have only been haphazardly able... my green thumb is more of a chartreuse. I still have my ho... Sun, 25 May 2014 11:48:23 EST What's for dinner? I'm trying to be proactive with diet choices and in this case keeping "paleo-friendly" options in the mix. I diligently completed my shopping yesterday so I could start my crockpot meal this morning. This should provide a few meals to keep me on track. It's like magic...

Recipe -- Sun, 18 May 2014 13:14:11 EST Fear is a habit; is self-pity, defeat, anxiety, despair, hopelessness and giving up.

Eliminate all of these negative habits with TWO simple resolves:
"I CAN!" and "I WILL!"

– Napoleon Hill Sat, 23 Feb 2013 14:32:50 EST From nutrition tracking to sofa bears... Recovering from foot surgery and hoping to be back on my feet in a couple more weeks. I'm interested in losing some of my "sit on my butt" weight as well as improving how I feel so I'm weaning myself from wheat and excess sugar. The nutrition tracker is helping me stay honest -- it's amazing how easily my brain "rounds down" calories when I don't track them.

Luckily, our recently adopted dog "Mongo" is keeping my spirits up using his patented "sofa bear" technique. Sun, 26 Dec 2010 02:04:56 EST Holiday Hopes for this Foster Dog

Thanksgiving has come and gone and we're still sharing our home with the lovely Sheila. She had a terrific time visiting the snow and enjoys playing endless games of fetch. Sheila is hoping to be "home for the holidays" so if you know of anyone in Northern California looking for a sporty and intelligent canine companion, please let them know about this cutie.

She's listed with the NorCal Aussie Rescue (s... Thu, 2 Dec 2010 17:10:13 EST Happy "Howl-O-Ween"

Hehehe, the old boy will tolerate just about anything for a biscuit. Sun, 31 Oct 2010 14:20:05 EST Foster dog Sheila may go home soon

I'm amazed at how accommodating my senior dogs have been with this young Aussie-x. There's almost a "nanny" care being provided, teaching Sheila the ropes. They share toys, the older dog "pretending" to guard the toy and then becoming seemingly distracted while the youngster swipes the toy. As if to get Sheila interested in something to pacify her (even if only for a moment or two).

We have another inqui... Sun, 24 Oct 2010 12:18:20 EST Canine Good Citizen Red

Red passed his Canine Good Citizen certification test last Saturday. He's been ready for awhile, but my follow-through was lacking...

All went well, the test is simple, but sometimes the distractions can be a challenge. This test was conducted amidst a dog show, so there were plenty of things to "lure" Red's attention (dogs in all shapes and sizes for starters).

For more information on develop... Wed, 13 Oct 2010 08:30:01 EST Vintage Motorcycles I know, I know, what do vintage motorcycles have to do with losing weight or staying in shape? I don't really know, but I sure love to look at them, and I guess while I'm busy looking, I'm walking and crouching, and not eating so it's a worthwhile distraction... right? We had the chance to peruse these "blasts from the past" yesterday at the local BMW dealership. The bikes include a Parilla, Capriolo Cento 50, BSA, Greeves, and BMWs. Cool, huh?

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeop... Sun, 12 Sep 2010 13:27:28 EST Sheila goes home!

Through a strange turn of events, Sheila's owner returns to the neighborhood and takes his little cutie back home. Maybe it was those adorable photos that I emailed to him (hehehe!).

It's very quiet around here now and the "old" and "older" dog are napping peacefully.

Red, Tater, and Sheila Sat, 11 Sep 2010 19:22:20 EST A dog named Sheila

We're fostering this lovely girl named "Sheila" who's an Australian shepherd / Australian cattle dog mix. She's quite lively since she's only a year old and challenging our "old" and "older" dog at every turn. She's sharp and quick, learning her basic obedience and also how to get along with some cranky cattle dogs. Hopefully we'll find her new forever home soon.

41 Tue, 17 Aug 2010 23:32:48 EST Touring Beautiful Oregon

Our return loop from the BMW MOA Rally in Redmond Oregon took us across the lava fields of Central Oregon. The photo below shows the Three Sisters cinder cones in the background and as you can see, plenty of lava fields all around. The cinder cones of Hippo Butte, Three Sisters, Juniper Butte, and Crescent Butte are all older than the Mammoth and Modoc Crater flows, more than 30,000-40,000 years old. Such a beautif... Mon, 3 May 2010 11:34:51 EST Reckless Abandon Woes I ran the report for my progress and goals... interesting to see the climb and dip of my progress (or lack there of...). After a "reckless" period between last May and December, I finally got back on track with nutrition tracking and have remained consistent with my workouts. I'm now only a pound away from where I was last May (sigh). I could actually be ahead of the game a bit as I've improved my strength since last year -- perhaps I'm a bit denser(?).

Nonetheless, I'm determined... I realized after last year's weight loss... and then weight gain that I was getting rather "casual" about dieting when my progress ticker hit the midway point. I guess I figured I was on the downhill side of the scale, so "what the heck?". Well that obviously didn't work in the overall scheme of things (d'oh!). I recently had to "re-lose" the weight and thought I'd try resetting my ticker to my new weight every now and then. It's kind of sad to see it at the start again, but I'm not feeling a... Sun, 11 Apr 2010 14:15:30 EST Really, it's time to get with the program!
See Tater run!

O.K., that's it! If "Tater" can lose 5% of her excess baggage in a few weeks, then I really need to get with the program!

I'm back to logging my daily food intake and tracking my exercise efforts. That really helped me in the past and should give me the "reality check" that I need to accomplish my goals.

206 Tue, 30 Mar 2010 12:04:56 EST A new couch 'Tater' in the family...
We adopted the cutest little senior Australian cattle dog from the SPCA this month. We named her "Tater" 'cause she's such a cute little spud. She's got so much enthusiasm for life, she's an inspiration -- we're always off on daily walks. She's deaf so we're learning some sign language to help develop her "vocabulary" (you know, fun stuff like cookie, walk, etc.). She's been quite fun to watch, especially when she goes c... Fri, 26 Mar 2010 16:52:16 EST Visit your local shelter and find your new workout buddy Nothing will inspire you to get out the door for a walk in quite the same way as a dog. So visit your local shelter and be sure to take your walking shoes with you!

Sat, 16 Jan 2010 17:06:19 EST Star-spangled vacation! The grasses are just about dried out so the deer are moving in closer and closer. Of course the munching includes anything and everything so the plants and flowers will be next to go (sigh).

Peeping Doe

Deer Clan (about a third of the herd)
<img src="http://... Mon, 29 Jun 2009 11:54:06 EST Quality time as a volunteer I enjoyed some quality time with the SPCA adoption dogs yesterday. The dogs really like getting out of their kennels for some play time and exercise. The added perk for me is I get some exercise too -- great for the mind, body, and soul. Just look at that happy face. :-)

UPDATE: Atish was adopted by a lovely couple and enjoys daily walks, trips to the lake, and fetch, fetch, fetch along with relaxing in his new home. YAY for Atish!

<img src="http://photos-ak.sparkpeopl... Fri, 26 Jun 2009 00:10:33 EST Central Coast R&R My hubby and I rode our motorcycles along a nice loop through the central coast last weekend and enjoyed a rare sunset in Morro Bay. Usually the bay is socked in with fog, so it was quite a treat.

Hubby enjoying a morning stroll along the beach. Wed, 24 Jun 2009 01:15:32 EST Daily login a must I've been overwhelmed with "stuff" this past couple of weeks and need to get back on track with my daily login on SP. It's so easy to ignore the extra calories when I'm not tracking (ack!). So back to basics for me. Thu, 18 Jun 2009 00:58:32 EST May gone by While I did manage to increase my fitness hours in May, I also managed to squeeze in some extra calories along the way. Overall I consider the month a success as I whittled away some more pounds (hopefully all fat!).

With the warmer weather upon us I've been fixating on the thought of eating ice cream (mmmmmmmmm!). I've managed to keep it down to just a spoonful and will keep my fantasy in check as best as possible... must be strong, must be..., must...
76 Mon, 1 Jun 2009 12:25:36 EST Day one of Sweatsuit to Swimsuit Bootcamp! Hovering at the halfway mark of my weight loss journey, I know that it will only be tougher to lose weight as I get closer to my goal. With SSBC daily workouts I hope to keep improving my outlook, habits, health, and ultimately my power to weight ratio. ;-)

Sun, 3 May 2009 20:10:35 EST Squeezing into the dusty jeans... I have shed enough to squeeze into an old pair of jeans. It's been over a year, probably two since I've been able to button these baby's. They're still a bit too snug for public, but wearing them around the house reminds me there's still room for improvement. I find that the looser jeans give me a false sense of where I'm at (seems like there's room for a donut...). ;->

Mind you, these jeans are an "intermediate" step to my size 10's -- I think that's still a few more months away... Fri, 20 Mar 2009 12:11:27 EST Arghhhhhh! The scale is stuck!!! I just wish the scale would budge (in a downward fashion of course). I'll just have to wait until next Sunday to see if there's any change (maybe it'll be two pounds by then?!?).

It's toughest today with the overcast, rainy weather. It always makes me want to pork out on mindless piles of empty (salty or sweet) calories. I guess I'll go get another glass of water and dig into a project. Perhaps a walk in the rain later today...
