I met all of my exercise goals, which included 4 kettlebell workouts (from Live Fit Revolution Week 1) and 3 Elliptical workouts (20 minutes each). I was super sore for the first 3 or 4 days this week, but for the last couple of days, I have been that good kind of sore. I also felt exhausted for the first few days this week, but my energ... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 09:42:15 EST Spark-tastic! Ready to MOTIVATE. I have to say, I think I found my Spark again. Finally!

It also helps that I got a new elliptical machine that I LOVE.

Spark-tastic:

1. For the last 3 weeks, I've been working out 4 to 5 times per week, steadily increasing time and/or intensity. I went on vacation, turned another year older, lost my spark, and didn't know where to find it :(

Almost exactly one month ago, I was in Key West - feeling pretty good that I kept up on my workouts and developed some lean muscle. I looked pretty good in my tank tops and halter dresses. So I ate. A lot. Of really fabulous food! And drank. A lot. Of delightful pina coladas pool side,... Sat, 20 Aug 2011 07:35:15 EST Overcoming a Gain So I logged a gain this week. Very. Discouraging.

Up from 188.3 to 190.0. WTF? I worked out most days this week, and I ate pretty okay (except for going out to eat Monday/Thursday and snacking my way through work on Friday, breaking my rule of no alcohol during the week (twice) and not tracking every single thing...). Maybe the eating wasn't that great. It's also TOM so that didn't help either.

It's okay, I'm not going to let this get me down! I'm going to total... MAIN CHALLENGE:
This week’s main challenge will hopefully be of use to you and your team as you plan your summer vacations. One of the things a lot of us worry during the summer is travelling while staying on top of your goals. When you are eating in a completely new area it is hard to always make the best decisions! The best way to get around that is a little planning and research before you leave home.

For the challenge this week, pick a city that you are going to this sum... Sat, 23 Apr 2011 14:01:54 EST Spark to 5K - Revisiting Week 3 I completely skipped my Week 3 Day 3 wog last weekend...I planned on doing W3D3 on Saturday and moving forward into Week 4...but then my husband and I decided to spend the entire weekend demolishing and digging out our old retaining wall -- 30 feet of dirt and 2 days of serious digging later, we have a giant mound of dirt in our backyard instead of a rotting retaining wall. Haven't built the new one yet, but hoping to do it next week (since I have a 3 day weekend!). I've decided that all th... I think the hubs is going to join me for at least one of the next wogs this week, too.

It was FREEZING when I woke up, so I drank some coffee and waited for the sun to come up...and then it was like 37 degrees outside. Tue, 5 Apr 2011 09:26:37 EST Spark to 5 K - Week 2, Wog x 2 I blew off one of my wogs for Spark to 5K this week but more than made up for it yesterday...or maybe over-did it a little yesterday.

Our elliptical machine died this week. It was a cheap-o one, so really, I'm surprised it lasted this long. My hubby has been working out on the elliptical A LOT lately, since he's been trying to get on a healthy kick with me. Sun, 3 Apr 2011 11:19:59 EST FEF Challenge, Week 1 - Planning and Inspiration MAIN CHALLENGE:
We all know how important planning is for success in anything. No more 80 degrees, now only cold and snow :( I almost wimped out of my wog because it was only like 39 degrees and overcast...but I knew with the snow on the way, it was now or never.

So I bundled up in my long pants, my long-sleeved running shirt, gloves, and my ear muffs! It's not that I don't want to eat chocolate ever again. I just noticed that I was starting to have a real problem where I NEEDED to have it one, sometimes two, times a day. What I really needed to do was to try to break the daily addiction. Which I think is better now. Maybe I can control myself a little better now that I've taken a step back from it. <BR... Wed, 23 Mar 2011 11:13:42 EST Spark to 5K - Week 1 Day 2 Today is my late-start day at work (don't have to be in until 10 AM!), so I got up in time to have a cup of coffee and head out for a wog in the park this morning! By jamming it on Sadie's (my dog's) leg while we were playing around in the house. Stupid. Lame. And Painful.

I've given it almost 2 weeks, and it's feeling a ton better but still hurts. Fri, 18 Feb 2011 16:03:48 EST PUSH Food Blog Challenge - Sunday/Monday This is going to be a tough challenge for me! I'm actually kind of embarassed to post my [googled] photos for the last couple of days. I overindulged Big Time on Super Bowl Sunday. My husband and I hosted a party for about 20 people at our house. The good news is that I prepared a lot of the food and made low fat substitutions where possible...the bad news is that I ate WAY too much.

SUNDAY

<BR... Mon, 7 Feb 2011 21:36:29 EST PUSH Challenge, Week 5: Picture of Confidence. MAIN CHALLENGE: Picture Confidence
Find an old picture of yourself that you feel confident in, and blog about it. Why are you happy in that picture, what makes you proud/confident about what you look like in the image? Fri, 4 Feb 2011 18:44:23 EST PUSH Challenge, Week 2: Reality Check and Positive Thinking. I finally took my Presidential Fitness Test. I feel like it was both good and bad...Good because I know where I'm starting from, and it's not as bad as I thought. Bad because it says in black and white that I am Obese with Very High Risk of Disease.

But that's okay! That's what I'm working on changing -- I am going to work hard to be healthy and minimize my risk of disease. No diabetes! No hypertension! No hyperlipidemia! No metabolic syndrome!!! I want to live a long healthy life with my husband and (future) kids. I want to have a (future) healthy pregnancy. I want to be a hot mom. I want to be a hot wife. Sat, 8 Jan 2011 12:44:08 EST The Spark: Chapter One I got The Spark last week, and I love it! It's so interesting to know the backstory about how sparkpeople was started and the philosophy behind it all. I think I love sparkpeople even more now that I've been reading The Spark!

There are some great reading guides available on the website, so I'm going to use them to really evaluate and define my goals. I have a hard time following through with things sometimes, but I think all of this reading about effective goal setting and pers... Tue, 28 Dec 2010 18:47:49 EST Hot by 30!...via 10K. So today I started a new personal challenge for my Hot by 30 goal. I weighed in for the first time since vacation earlier this month...I definitely added more weight that I would have liked, but I expected it since I haven't been working out very regularly and I've been eating like a crazy person. I did great during the Biggest Loser competition up until we left for Maui, so I KNOW I can get results and stick to a healthy diet/exercise plan.

My motivation has really slacked off i... Mon, 29 Mar 2010 19:56:45 EST I think my Wii Fit lied to me. I think my Wii Fit lied to me today...but I'm okay with it.

I got the Wii Fit/balance board for my birthday in 2008 -- I haven't really used it as much as I thought I would for exercising per se. It goes in spurts. I get really into the Biggest Loser game for a couple of weeks, then I get really into something the elliptical...then back to the Wii but now with Jillian Michaels Ultimatum 2010 (like a hundred million times better than the 2009 one...but watch out for th... Thu, 18 Feb 2010 23:27:30 EST Countdown to the Swimsuit: 10 days. I have a lot of swimsuit anxiety.

I'm not sure when it started, but as long as I can remember I have never been especially comfortable in a swimsuit. I worry about my thighs, my hips, my stomach, my butt, my arms.

Really, swimsuit anxiety = body image anxiety.

So in 10 days, I will be on a plane to Maui, with 3 different swimsuit options packed and ready to go. Thu, 18 Feb 2010 00:47:24 EST Back to the Wog, Part 2: Motivation As I'm trying to get back on a regular exercise schedule, I've been thinking about what my motivation is. Of course, I want to be healthy, not get diabetes or high blood pressure. These are great goals, and as a physician I honestly really care about them. The thing's what I really want:

Michelle Obama's Arms! Seriously, I love Michelle Obama (as I love the rest of the Obama family). She's a ... Tue, 1 Dec 2009 01:01:31 EST Back to the Wog, Part 1 So today I went for my first wog least a month. I wasn't so sure how it was going to go. I mean, I had started working out on my elliptical a couple of weeks ago, so I knew that my endurance wasn't quite what it was back in September.

But when I went to bed last night, I set my alarm and planned out my wog to Forest Park. I LOVE Forest Park. I'm so lucky that I live so close to it! A half mile walk to the park for a warm up, and I'm ready to go!

<img src... Sun, 29 Nov 2009 11:34:47 EST Biggest Loser for the Wii, Day 2 -- Arms I still love this game! So I technically didn't have any scheduled workouts today, but I logged on and decided to do some upper body exercises since my legs (especially my calves -- weird) are killing me today. Day 1's lower body workout really seems to have worked -- my calves are killing me and stairs are a little tough, but my thighs and butt are only a little sore (in that good sore kind of way).

Anyway, I had my doubts about the upper body workout because really how much can... Mon, 26 Oct 2009 22:54:24 EST Biggest Loser for the Wii, Day 1 Well, I have certainly fallen off the wagon for the last few weeks...I was out of town/on vacation for I think 11 of the last 25 days of October. Having a fabulous time of course, but also eating without any control and drinking a lot too.

But I have to get back on the wagon now. Play time is over. I feel kind of yucky and I know my clothes are just a little bit tighter than they were 25 days ago!

My husband got me a great gift for my bday though -- the Biggest Loser ... Sun, 25 Oct 2009 18:32:28 EST A cross-training revelation This week, I decided to start working out again. I finished the half marathon on 9/13/09 and gave myself some well-deserved time off! I'm working the night shift, and I like to do a little workout before I go in at 7 pm so I feel more alert.

Yesterday (? I confuse my days while I'm on nights, so I'm not totally sure)...I decided to do a quick workout video in our new basement workout room. Haven't used it much recently, what with long runs and training for the half. I cued up J... Fri, 25 Sep 2009 02:05:49 EST Ode to Emotional Eating A terrible, long day
Ending in tears and despair
I can't face tomorrow...
without some pizza.

Okay, not so much an Ode...what can I say, I haven't written anything creatively in like 5 years. I had a terrible day, the latest in a string of bad days. What will make me feel better? Pizza.

It felt SO good in the beginning...but now I'm a little sick. And still feeling exhausted, overworked, underappreciated on top of it.

Emotional Eating, why... Wed, 16 Sep 2009 22:45:09 EST 12 weeks and counting... The month of torturous hours and emotional eating is about to come to a close this week...

I have to admit that I will miss my daily allotment of french fries and my midnight ice cream. But it's all for the better! Back to walk/jogging and back to eating my veggies!!!!! Yay!!

I clamored back on the walk/jog train on Sunday. Had a nice little 3-miler in Forest Park. It was a beautiful day, and it felt good to get back out again. True, I'm sore today (especially my h... Mon, 29 Jun 2009 19:53:31 EST Week 2, so far so good. This week has been tough. I've been working insane hours and have been pretty much EXHAUSTED when I get home from work. I've basically been alternating 10 hour and 12 hour days this week. There are never enough hours in the day to get everything done, and something always has to give....

But not the running!! (or the run/walking). I've managed to keep with my training schedule on the days that I get home around 630 or 7 pm by running either in the park or on a treadmill. On t... Fri, 5 Jun 2009 16:37:29 EST My REAL Week One I've kind of been messing around, half committed to my half marathon training program for the last 2 weeks. This week is the first week where I've been more motivated and more diligent about trying to stick with my running schedule. And it feels good!

I've run twice already this week -- Run #1 on Tuesday I walk/jogged 2 miles in about 35 minutes. Warmed up for 5 minutes, then ran for 6/walked for 2 until cool down for about 5 minutes. Run #2 on Thursday I walk/jogged 2 miles in... Fri, 29 May 2009 11:09:56 EST My first black eye I'm still sort of in this pre-training mode for the half marathon -- I'm walk/jogging 2 miles at a time 2-3 times per week for the last two weeks. Next week my goal is to build up to a full jog of 2 miles by the end of the week. I feel like I can do it because I've been progressively increasing my jogging distance vs walking distance.
