SASSYCHRIS1952's SparkPeople Blog SASSYCHRIS1952's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community I'm Back! Hi! And a Happy belated Thanksgiving! I know I've been MIA for quite a while, didn't mean for that to happen. 20

A quick synopsis: my husband and I both have elderly parents (his mom and my dad). I slipped into depression and almost put my weight back on, but........

I didn't want either of US to lapse into poor health, we are needed, so.....we re-joined our local gym, and workout at least 3 days (or evenings, depending on the work schedules) and came back ... Fri, 27 Nov 2015 10:22:22 EST Hurricane Arthur (We are ok) We got grazed with the outer part of the storm system thankfully. As of 8:30 am it is still dark, rainy, and a few gusts here and there but it should clear out by the afternoon. The Outer Banks of North Carolina received the brunt of it (if you're from there and reading this, I hope you're ok). We live about 95 miles north. I got a few pictures of the rapidly passing and rotating clouds.

<img src="http:... Fri, 4 Jul 2014 08:37:35 EST Our Vegetable Garden I cannot take the credit for this great-looking garden, this is my husband's pride and joy! Fortunately we've been getting a good soaking rain here and there. I can't wait for the tomatoes to ripen, they are coming along fine! He also planted squash, zucchini, green peppers, and cucumbers. Doesn't get any fresher than this!

<... Fri, 27 Jun 2014 10:18:05 EST The Relay for Life Hi Friends! Hope all is well with everyone! On June 7th my team and I did a midnight 5K for The American Cancer Society, a very worthy cause. Here are some pictures of our team. We truly had a lot of fun and cannot wait for the next time!

Me posing with the Old Dominion University (ODU) mascot

Our tent and base of operations

<img src=" Thu, 19 Jun 2014 13:11:12 EST The Dirty Girl Mud Run Hi Sparkies! Hope all is well! I know I haven't been here much but I have lots going on right now and fortunately my situations are simmering down slowly but surely. And now, on to an achievement I accomplished last Saturday, 4/26. I participated in The Dirty Girl Mud Run and this is my first run EVER! The term "mud run" sure rose up to the occasion LOL! Here are some pictures:

<img src="http://photo... Thu, 1 May 2014 12:00:17 EST My Danish Heritage

Hi Spark friends! I know it's been a while, but I've been in Denmark for a while (with my sister and first cousin also) to not only see the sights, but to also visit 3 of my dad's living cousins and their families. I didn't have much access to any computer. It was great meeting everyone for the first time! And not only did we do a lot of walking around but we ate more healthy such as fresh meats and produce. Well.... Sat, 7 Dec 2013 12:12:34 EST Our Summer of 2013 in New England Hello Spark friends! It's been quite a while since I've posted any blogs. My husband and I took time off to do some traveling up in the New England states and to visit family during the course of the summer. For the most part, we did a lot of camping and hiking, just enjoying the beautiful scenery of the outdoors! We went full circle starting in Vermont, then going to New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New York state. Here are some pictures I got:

... Mon, 30 Sep 2013 13:31:15 EST I'm taking a risk of sounding repetitive goes......THANK YOU everyone for your support! 304 247 345
During my busy time I can honestly say that I stayed pretty much on track (with the exception of 3 mozzarella sticks 2 ). When management brought in food, fortunately there was fresh fruit and veggies to choose from---that is a life-saver 250 Then again, I think most everyone is health-conscience and I'm glad to see that.
Luv ya!
Chris Wed, 30 Jan 2013 09:47:29 EST My husband--my HERO

Well, here it is---Thursday and Friday the supervisors will be here for auditing, evaluations, and (Friday) for an 8-hour training program for updates on procedures. In the meantime, my husband has been my rock and support. Not just emotionally, but nutritionally too. He has been making my breakfasts and lunches which include oatmeal, poached eggs, multi-grain bread toasted, and coffee (truthfully, still gotta have... Tue, 22 Jan 2013 09:18:39 EST Busy busy busy!!

My regional supervisor and head of human resources will be here next week and I'm scrambling to meet deadlines with reports, schedules, etc (out of breath reading this yet?). There is one thing that I'm doing when I order for our luncheons----play it smart. Fortunately there is a Subway that is less than 5 miles away. That is a healthier choice than, say, getting pizza, fast-food, you get the idea. Also, on one of t... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 09:21:59 EST It's 2013 and I have a very special goal for a great reason! Hi Everyone! Happy New Year! I know it's been quite a while and I pray that all is well with my friends 213
I had my ups and downs during the course of 2012 but all in all we have been truly blessed in spite of 2 major situations that did occur; my 86 years young dad had a stroke and subsequently suffered falling and was in and out of the hospital. To be honest, it was touch and go for several months. Then just a few months later, my mother in law suffered a stroke and I'm s... Sun, 6 Jan 2013 09:32:52 EST Thank you Dad and everyone who served in the military My dad practicing the Morse code

Another shot of my dad.

I spoke to my dad this morning and of course I thanked him for serving our country in the US Army during WW II. He is almost 86 and still going strong. And thank you to all my spark friends who served Sat, 26 May 2012 21:20:48 EST Achilles tendonitis I am presently healing up from Achilles tendonitis and am doing light exercises with no jumping around of any kind. In the beginning it hurt worse than "the opposite of heaven". I would like to share a link with you regarding this problem, here it is:

ies.html

I was doing jumping jacks in case you're wondering how it happened. Thankfully I can do most other exercises in the meantime (abs, squats, push-ups, etc). If anyone wants ... Thu, 24 May 2012 11:19:46 EST Dancing the Calories Away Last night (and into early this morning), I met up with some friends and danced for at least a good 2 hours! I drank only one light beer, then the rest of the night stuck to club soda with a lemon wedge. I can see why dance classes such as Zumba are popular. It's a fun way to burn calories 218
If you are ever planning to visit the Hampton Roads area (such as Virginia Beach, Norfolk) I recommend seeing a group called The Blue Lords. They are good friends with my son and they go... Sun, 22 Apr 2012 10:52:30 EST My husband's getting our garden ready! Being that we didn't really have a winter, my husband decided to get the ground prepared to plant tomatoes---yay! And this is giving us quality time together being in our back yard. We haven't yet figured out what to grow besides tomatoes, but I will keep you posted.
258 258 258 258 258 258 Sun, 1 Apr 2012 18:58:17 EST A shocking diagnosis to be aware of First and foremost, I want to tell my spark friends that I do NOT have anything life-threatening, I am ok.
I'll make a long story short (I'll try to) before I get to the diagnosis so you can have a better understanding. For the past month, I have been sick on and off with a cold (or so I thought). The symptoms would be fatigue, a slight coughing (which occurred at its worst at night), and a little bit of a sore throat, but I would be well enough in the mornings to go on with the day. Th... Thu, 8 Mar 2012 17:09:10 EST MORE Great Oldies

I'd like to share more oldies that we work out to. And we're having a blast! Truth be told, for a while, I was starting to get bored with the same workout routine, but these tunes (a few of very many) MAKE it fun, fun, fun (no, my daddy didn't take my T Bird away, I didn't have one to begin with 246 ) Enjoy!

Fri, 24 Feb 2012 16:16:56 EST My Husband is nagging me! And that is GOOD!

I knew the title of today's blog would grab your attention! It all started this past weekend, Saturday and into this morning (Monday). I'm sitting here at my computer, then just before breakfast, he came marching over with my jacket and earmuffs and said "ok, get off your *donkey*, you are coming for a walk with me---now!". "Uh, ok honey", I replied, giving a giggle. We took a 30 minute walk. Then next thing I knew... Mon, 20 Feb 2012 10:53:33 EST Happy Valentines Day Spark Friends!

Have a happy valentines day! And here's a tune that will be fitting for today and will get you going! Enjoy!

Tue, 14 Feb 2012 07:48:53 EST Working out to my most favorite group

I am doing my at-home exercising to The Beatles! Who'd have thought that years ago (too many LOL!!) that most of their music would be great to work out to! Wow, the 1/2 hour just flew by. I was using my stretch bands, kettlebell, and just plain dancing around. And it didn't feel like a hard days night (couldn't resist!) Sat, 4 Feb 2012 18:08:07 EST Home-made Soup to my Rescue My husband and I are going to a party tonight and there will be a buffet with heaven knows how many choices. Yesterday, I made chicken vegetable soup with left over chicken. It has carrots, onion, garlic, and celery in it. I used a salt-free seasoning to take away the blandness. Right now, I am having a big bowl so I won't arrive starving and succumbing to the temptation of making wrong choices and eating too much. And once again, I'm posting this blog for accountability.
Have a great d... Sun, 8 Jan 2012 16:00:35 EST The Gospel According to St. Doctor Hello spark friends and Happy New Year! My doctor gave me a print-out of back exercises to do on an exercise ball and I have been diligent to do these several times a week plus taking daily walks for at least 30 minutes a day (Dr recommended also). In fact, he stated that just doing the daily walk is one of the best exercises for back health, I was surprised!
Here is a link of exercises that work for me. By the way, I have firmed up even more doing these! I started out s-l-o-w-l-y and i... Mon, 2 Jan 2012 10:24:55 EST Recovering from a back injury Hi spark friends, it's been awhile. I'm finally on the mend from a lower back injury. What I thought was sciatica turned out to be a condition called sacroiliitis (sacro-ill-e-itis).
Just to brief those who don't know what that is:
The sacroiliac (SI) joint is a very irregularly shaped joint located where the ilium (hip bone) and the sacrum (tail bone) meet. The joint has very little motion; however, the limited motion it does have is very important to the proper functioning of the... Sun, 20 Nov 2011 08:22:27 EST A Wonderful visit without neglecting my fitness To say that I had a great time at my 40th reunion would be an understatement. There was about 120 or so (out of over 700 grads!) that attended. Not only was it nice to see friends I hung out with, but there were several that were----how do I say this----NOT friends at the time that not only welcomed me but apologized, giving me the peace and closure that I secretly longed for.
During that weekend, my husband and I hiked for a total of about 10 miles (about 5 miles a day) at several parks... Sat, 15 Oct 2011 13:58:02 EST 40 Year Reunion, here I come!
There were no ifs ands or buts! For the past several months, I've been buckling down with diligent working out and eating lean meats and lots of veggies and fruits. And it's not just for the reunion (which is Saturday, October 8th), but for the quality of life. And I am thrilled to tell you that I am no longer pre-diabetic and my bad cholesterol level is ... Wed, 28 Sep 2011 13:51:04 EST In Remembrance
There isn't a word or phrase in any language that can describe this sorrow
652 652 652 652 652 652 652 652 652 652
Sun, 11 Sep 2011 09:18:42 EST Irene, the persona non grata Just to let everyone know----we are getting prepared for the pending hurricane. My husband and son are getting several cases of bottled water and canned foods. Oh boy, we will try to make as healthy choices as possible by getting the "no salt and sugar added". For those who are reading this and you are in the path, be safe. Instead of getting "real" candles, we got the LED battery-operated ones which I feel is much safer and not a fire-hazard plus we got extra batteries for the flashlights. ... Thu, 25 Aug 2011 17:24:01 EST HELP!! I am BORED!! Hi sparkers! It's been awhile. During the course of this month, I have been filling in for my vacationing co-worker and working 10-12 hour days every day except Sunday and won't have off until Monday. But that's not why I'm bored, I love my job. I am bored with the lunches I've been bringing---sandwiches, sandwiches, and MORE sandwiches. The only kind of sandwich I like is turkey and roast beef from the deli department but now I am getting tired of it. I don't like ham and peanutbutter makes ... Tue, 16 Aug 2011 10:34:35 EST Instead of a junk food treat..... I treated myself to a new computer. Actually the one I've been using is my son's, so now I have my own 17
Fortunately he was kind (and knowledgeable enough) to set it up for me. The screen is 20" (his is 15") and now I can see everyone's smiling faces much better 334
The reason I'm sharing this with you is to give any reader of this blog incentive to, instead of splurging on junk foods, SAVE the $$$ and treat yourself to a present instead. The money I've sa... Fri, 29 Jul 2011 12:21:41 EST An entry on facebook that really made me think Hi sparkfriends, I just have to share this. I copied and pasted it on my facebook page and here it is:
I was going to complain about how hot it is... then I realized that at least: 1.) it isn't 109 degrees; 2.) I'm not 5,700 miles from home; 3.) I'm not dressed in a full BDU uniform and helmet and carrying 70+ lbs.; and 4.) there is very little chance that anyone will shoot at me or that I might drive over a bomb in the road today! Thanks to all who serve !!!
652 652... Thu, 21 Jul 2011 12:30:36 EST Our First Tomato from our Garden

The handsome man that I am madly in love with holding the first full-grown tomato is my husband 129 258
That is going into the salad tonight---yum! Sun, 10 Jul 2011 09:07:43 EST A great visit AND weight loss!
Hi Sparkers! My sister extended her stay plus I had to play catch-up when I returned to work (I won't bore you with THOSE work details LOL).
During the course of the 2 weeks, there was lots of activities; we went out dancing at a favorite night spot to a live band (my son is a good friend of the drummer), so that was a workout in and of itself (and FUN!). I drank club soda with a twist of lime as a healthier altern... Fri, 8 Jul 2011 10:58:49 EST Ooookay! It is ON!

I just received an email and got an invite to my high school 40 year reunion (I was 7 when I graduated heh heh heh) Uh, ok, 7 and a 1/2 :D . Starting today, I'm upping my workouts and eating habits! Just had a bowl of sugar-free oatmeal with a fresh sliced peach. I'm going to the gym later today, but in the meantime, I am taking a nice long walk. The date of the reunion is October 8th, so that gives me 4 and 1/2 m... Wed, 15 Jun 2011 09:19:24 EST My sister will be arriving Friday for a visit I will have my 2-week vacation time starting tomorrow---YAY! It's been almost a year since we've seen each other & we're looking forward to it. You think we're gonna spend time in front of the TV and/or computer? WRONG! We will be at the beach, pool, and downtown (Norfolk) walking around. She works out, too and I can't wait to see how fit she is 344
I will keep everyone posted. To be continued................ Mon, 13 Jun 2011 11:55:13 EST Follow-up to yesterday's blog--here's the pics! They are looking good! In fact, we had some squash last night and there is no denying the freshness.
Mon, 6 Jun 2011 10:05:53 EST My husband's Garden of veggies This year, along with the usual tomato and cucumber plants, he also planted summer squash, zucchini, and green snap beans. I was going to get a pic to post but it is cloudy and overcast and it would come out too dark, so I will post it tomorrow. I can't wait to have fresh produce! Sun, 5 Jun 2011 13:40:34 EST One good reason I DIDN'T walk home yesterday We had a brief but very violent storm rush through our area. I was driving in the company van and got caught in the rain, heavy hail, and gusts. I never knew that hail could sound so loud, make visibility almost non-existent, and be menacing. All of us drivers didn't budge until it passed. Here is a link of someone catching it on a vid. Fortunately we have our electricity, but others are still without as of this morning. There are downed trees, electrical wires, and branches. For the rest of... Wed, 25 May 2011 07:30:06 EST Getting home from work via New Balance Express 311
I live about 2.8 miles away from where I work and for the past several days, I would have either my son or husband drop me off in the morning, then after work, I walk home. I've been feeling invigorated and am sleeping more soundly. I am going to do this before the heat of the summer comes upon us. Even then I will bring a bottle of H2O. Sat, 21 May 2011 19:29:02 EST A sign received that my husband drinks TOO much soda Bruuuuther, we had one heck of a mess to clean up. My husband brought home yet another six-pack of Pepsi (which I don't drink) and was anxious to get a can of it cold. Without my knowing, he put one in the freezer last night and forgot about it. When I got up this morning, I opened the freezer door to see what I could thaw out for tonight's dinner, and-----SURPRISE!! The can exploded overnight and most of the door and items was covered with the slushy and sticky stuff. I sighed, and he... Wed, 13 Apr 2011 11:07:43 EST Hang up! Or else.......... will risk yours and someone else's life. When I was out and about today, waiting to make a left turn, the vehicle ahead of me proceeded to make the turn and almost got broad-sided. Nothing happened thankfully. I was just close enough to see that the on-coming driver who screeched on the breaks was talking on their cell phone, not paying attention. This was a startling reminder to not use my cell phone until I am safely parked. Thu, 31 Mar 2011 19:59:05 EST FINALLY Debt-Free! I would like to share what I posted to one of the teams I am a member of (Dave Ramsey Fans).

I was wondering if anyone had purchased a house within the past year and received the $8,000 credit. Last April (of 2010), my husband and I just got under the wire and went to closing before the deadline. This past January we went to get our taxes done and this past Thursday we got the direct deposit---YAY!! I am happy to say that ALL our debts are PAID IN FULL, lock stock and barrel, pra... Tue, 15 Mar 2011 07:58:31 EST I'm proud of my son's seasonal job Well, it's that time of year to think about tax time. My husband and I went to Liberty Tax and someone mentioned that they were looking for a waver--------yup, you guessed it! My son is (as you read this) is donned with the green drape and crown waving and dancing his heart out. Pretty cool huh! He auditioned a few days ago and was hired on the spot. He's been unemployed for some time, but he sure knows how to make lemonade out of lemons. 218 By the way, the temps are in the ... Thu, 3 Feb 2011 09:12:52 EST Thank you EVERYONE My dad is out of the hospital but must now be on oxygen for the rest of his life. I got back into eating better and lost 2 pounds. Thank you spark friends for your support at a time that was much needed 252 Mon, 10 Jan 2011 12:32:22 EST A stressful beginning to 2011 Hi everyone and happy new year 213 I'm posting this blog not meaning to sound like Miss Debbie Downer, but within a 3-month time (from November to the present), I have had very major situations happen. First, my brother was rushed to the hospital for a blood clot in his leg. It could've been life-threatening, but thankfully it was caught in time and he has since been taking blood thinning meds. Then just not 3 weeks later, my sister was experiencing chest pains, went to the Dr'... Fri, 7 Jan 2011 11:05:55 EST Busy playing "catch up" Well, here I am, back safe and sound 30 It's good to be home and it was great to see my family! I was catching up on housework a little, then catching up on paper work as well as notes from business meetings. Today's Sunday and now I will catch up with my exercise routines. Speaking of.............when we were all in Atlantic City, my sister, son, and I spent most of our time walking the boardwalk, the weather couldn't have been any more perfect! And it kept my weight in check... Sun, 19 Sep 2010 08:10:16 EST I will be back in one week from today My son and I are going to visit my dad, stepmom, and sister. Both parents are not in great health, this visit is important to us, wish us godspeed. But it's not all "doom and gloom". We are all being treated to a 3-day trip to Atlantic City! The boardwalk is where we will be spending most of our time (NO gambling LOL) and that will enable me to get in alot of walking 311 And we will also utilize the hotel swimming pool (my favorite form of exercise)
See you all next week... Wed, 8 Sep 2010 09:34:04 EST Getting ready for Earl "just in case". Today is Wednesday and that hurricane is supposed to graze our area. We got 2 cases of bottled water, some canned goods (veggies and fruits), and of course batteries. In case the electricity goes, we have a gas stove and our backyard grill. For those reading this who live on the east coast, be safe. Wed, 1 Sep 2010 12:25:58 EST A few of my favorite tunes I work out to at home For the days that I just can't make the time to go to the gym, I dance around to these tunes (I posted a few of many) while doing housework.

Today's music is a very happy, inspiring sound!
335 Mon, 30 Aug 2010 13:26:14 EST I tried a new and fun activity!

My husband and I went to the ocean front in Virginia Beach today for "us" time. We brought the cooler with cantaloupe, watermelon, bottled water, and the beach umbrella. We ventured into the water and got to talking to someone who's daughter was boogie boarding. I told her that it looked like fun. She asked if I wanted to try it! I was reluctant at first, I never tried it before, but I was finally persuaded. T... Sun, 29 Aug 2010 16:20:44 EST I thought this happens only in cartoons! LOL! Talk about being in a virtual cartoon or sit-com! On Saturday, when I was working, I decided to take the company van to the car wash to spiffy it up (it's white and gets dirty easily). It was a beautiful, sunny day, and cooler temperature-wise and I decided to open the windows to get fresh air. Ok, I drive in the car wash, put the windows up, the soap suds sprayer moves, and-----GASP!!!!! AAHHHH!!!! The next thing I know, it comes flying in the PASSENGER window that I forgot to cl...
