I got a job! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5513710 I got an offer for the job that I wanted. I am really excited about going back to work. Plus, they gave me 4 weeks of paid time off, plus 12 additional holidays off per year. Benefits are decent too. In addition, there is a 401k match up to 10%, which is really good.

I'm just happy to be going back to work. I was happy to be able to be a caregiver during this time, but I felt like I wasn't using my brain as much. My niece is upset though. She doesn't want me to work. She ... Mon, 14 Oct 2013 22:52:50 EST Getting the job...then what? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5509879 I've been out of the job market for two years. I decided to return to work this fall. Today I had a great 2nd interview. This got me thinking though...will I be able to keep up my workouts? Desk jobs can take a lot out of you, especially this position that I have interviewed for. Maybe I am putting the cart before the horse here, but can I maintain my healthy lifestyle after I start working?

In reality, workouts don't consume much of my day now. I mainly workout in the even... Thu, 10 Oct 2013 13:03:06 EST What an awesome summer I've had! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5508043 Yes, it's been a very long time since my last entry so this is going to be a long one.

I have not stopped my exercising at all. I did stop using sparkpeople for a while, because I was traveling and training so much, that I found I didn't have the time to devote to tracking and such. With the season winding down, I've got more time.

So...what have I been doing this summer you ask? Hubby and I took a road trip to Nashville and New Orleans. It was so awesome! I'd never... Tue, 8 Oct 2013 13:48:50 EST It's been a long couple of months! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5240907 First, I've been exercising on a regular basis. However, I have not lost any more weight. My eating has not been particularly good. I'm still eating healthy, it's just my schedule has been so off lately. I've had to eat more at night than during the day.

Both my in-laws have been in the hospital. It's been 15 days of crazy running around. At least they were in the same hospital. Wed, 6 Feb 2013 23:02:26 EST Tri Training Update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5156178 Today I swam for 45 minutes. It is getting much easier to swim now. I'm trying to work on my form, but it is so hard by myself. I'm wondering if I need a coach. I don't want to spend any money on that, so I guess I will just have to muddle through.

I rode for 30 minutes today, did 8 miles. Not too bad. After the 1st of the year, I am going to look around for an appropriate road bike. I'm hoping I can purchase a decent bike, but again, I do NOT want to spend a lot of money. ... Tue, 4 Dec 2012 16:34:43 EST Mini Triathlon! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5129765 I feel like I am a crazy person. This is only because I never thought I would ever wake up one day and decide to do a mini triathlon. I did that today. I swam for 45 minutes and did 900 meters. Then I drove over to the gym and did a 20 minute run, 1.63 miles. Then, I decided to get on the stationary bike and rode 7 miles in 23 minutes.

I think I might make Friday Mini Tri Day. Why not?

Next week I have to work on some sprinting. The indoor Tri in February is... Fri, 9 Nov 2012 16:27:07 EST Swimming http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5122059 Today, I started my Triathlon training. I swam 34 laps (850 meters) in 45 minutes. I'm not really happy with this, but it is a work in progress. I didn't push myself as much as I could have, but that is because it's my first time in the pool swimming laps in....oh about 12 years. I'm still trying to feel this out.

I can only get better from here. I'm thinking I need to build up some endurance first and then go for speed. Sat, 3 Nov 2012 00:06:47 EST Crazy Busy...getting things done anyway! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5120957 October was a very heavy travel month for me. I was gone for 2 weeks. Then, because I live with children, a 7 year old and 40 year old, Halloween activities were plentiful. Horror conventions, haunted houses, trails of terror, corn mazes, and trunk or treats.

I ran a 5k for Halloween. BEST TIME YET - 34 minutes 29 seconds! I kicked butt. I was so pleased with this time. I worked really hard while I was traveling. I made sure to push myself and continued to train. I'm so ... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 10:08:43 EST 5k + 6 days in Toronto + 5k = No weight gain http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5079824 Last Saturday I ran a 5k trail run in 38.14 minutes. Not bad considering it had rained all night and morning prior to the run. It was muddy and I had to walk more then I normally would have due to the trail conditions. Let me tell you, this was much harder then a road race. Tons of hills, mud, rocks, tree roots and so on. I am truly surprised that it only took me 38 minutes.

Toronto was awesome! We walked every day, at least 3 - 5 miles a day. I tried to stay in my calorie r... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 18:17:51 EST More Cardio...Um Yes. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5068278 I need to do more cardio. And not walking...I need to do more running. No more excuses. I've got to run everyday for at least 30 minutes.

I'm getting a little impatient with myself. I do a ton of strength training, and I am doing some cardio, but it is not enough. Clearly my body wants to hold onto this fat and I need to counter with some fat blasting. I hate to say that what I am doing is not enough, but that's what I have to say.

I know I've come a long way. A... Thu, 20 Sep 2012 20:01:01 EST Perfecting my form. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5053269 Today I decided to work on my running form. I've read a lot about the subject of running form. Although, it is tougher to put into practice when you are only reading the material.

I decided that when I run on the treadmill that will be where I test out my form. There is something about being forced to move your feet or you will fall that helps me get my form right. I'm not sure why. I ran a mile and some change, non-stop, with no fatigue. That tells me that my form was good. ... Mon, 10 Sep 2012 20:14:26 EST My aching body. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5050278 I am taking a rest day tomorrow. If I don't, it will be 14 days in a row of working out hard. Let me tell you, the only muscle in my body that isn't sore is my tongue. Today I went to the gym, but for the first 15 minutes all I could do is laugh, because I was in so much pain. Even laughing hurt my abs.

I am planning on sleeping, eating and lounging all day! Hopefully, by Monday I will have recovered enough to stop the maniacal laughter due to pain. Sat, 8 Sep 2012 21:52:35 EST Doing it! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5047262 Forty pounds gone today. Actually, it was yesterday, but I wait until I have 2 days of the same weight in a row before I will acknowledge the loss. It seems like I am steadily losing now. I think it took a while because I have been building muscle where I never had it before. I can actually see some definition in my arms now. My arms have never looked like this before. I also have what I jokingly call a 2 pack. The top of my abs are becoming defined, so I know there is hope for the res... Thu, 6 Sep 2012 14:56:48 EST Inspiring others? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5040233 I have been posting check-ins at the gym since June on Facebook. My gym was running a promotion for every 5 check-ins you would receive $5 off any products they sell. Now it is a habit, and I find myself continuing to check - in.

Here is what I've noticed. There are a few people that have posted how annoying it is to see people's posts about working out. I just ignore them, because their being annoyed has nothing to do with me and what I am trying to accomplish.

... Sat, 1 Sep 2012 16:37:24 EST I am an athlete! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5036316 This week my trainer did my measurement. I'm down a total of 36 lbs, but he calculated that I have actually lost 40 lbs of fat! Yes, 40 lbs of FAT! Also, I am down a total of 33 inches all over my body.

After that bit of information, my trainer decided it would be fun to put two 20 lb vests on me to simulate the 40 lbs of fat. Then I did a work out with the extra 40 lbs. Holy Toledo was that hard. What an eye opener though. I can't believe that I used to move around with th... Wed, 29 Aug 2012 16:25:10 EST I need a massage. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5025595 When I was working in an office, I would get a half hour massage every Friday. It's been over a year since I've had a massage. I really, really need a massage. I don't want a therapeutic deep tissue massage. I want the foo foo relaxation massage. Although, I should probably get the deep tissue since most of my muscles are sore already. Wait a minute.

Waaa waaaa waaaaa. I'm just being whiny because of the intensity of my workouts has increased and my muscles are groaning in p... Tue, 21 Aug 2012 22:26:01 EST Not much. Or so I thought. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5024245 Not much going on today. Didn't do any cardio, which is really weird for me. My calf muscles hurt really bad, so I thought I would give my legs a rest. Did 30 mins with my trainer today and that's about it.

Oh! I forgot, something great today. I lost 3 pounds! After so long of scale stagnation, there has been movement the last two weeks.

Today was a full day. I started the day going out to breakfast with my hubby and niece. I had 2 poached eggs on an english m... Mon, 20 Aug 2012 23:38:53 EST No more plus sizes? Almost. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5022530 I went shopping and actually bought an XL shirt from Old Navy. That has not happened in a very long time. I can't believe it! I went to the plus size store, and every thing was so big on me. Even the smallest sizes left me with lots of room.

I'm out of the 20's and into the teens now. I've never been in a size smaller then a 14 my whole adult life. I'm not there now, but I can see it on the horizon. I'm trying to hold off on shopping, and am planning on going to the thrift... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 23:03:31 EST Finished another one! YAY! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5020123 I finished my second 5k in 37 mins 36 secs! I'm thrilled, I beat my time from my last 5k. Great day, great run, great fun!

OH and my hubby did the 5k too, he walked it. He was such a champ. He finished in a little over an hour. He had a huge blister on his foot, but finished anyway. I'm super proud of him! Fri, 17 Aug 2012 23:23:53 EST Another 5k? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5018750 I signed up for another 5k. This will be my second run ever. It's tomorrow night. I'm not nearly as nervous as with the first one. However, I am a little concerned.

You see, this week my trainer decided that it would be a good week to up my weights. I am sooooo sore. I'm hoping I can warm up enough before the run so that I can endure the 5k. I can't place all the blame on my trainer though. I rode 8 miles on the bike in 24 minutes yesterday.

I'm thinking I shou... Thu, 16 Aug 2012 22:44:50 EST Vacation and food http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5016425 I just got back from Chicago. I ate up a storm. It seems that if I go to Chicago by myself, it is easier for me to eat healthy. However, every time I go with my husband and our niece, I end up eating a lot more than I would normally eat. I think this is because it is easier to indulge when others are indulging around me. Like somehow it's more acceptable.

The thing is, I really don't feel that bad for eating like that. For the most part I did choose the better of the "bad" fo... Wed, 15 Aug 2012 10:35:18 EST Off Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5005479 I couldn't sleep last night. I think I fell asleep around 3:20am, at least that was the last time I saw the clock. This threw me all off today. I didn't get out of bed until noon! I am usually an early to bed early to rise person. I hate sleeping in, because I feel like the day is so wasted.

I did manage to do 30 mins of cardio then had my training session. So that made me feel better. I still feel off. There is something to be said for maintaining a sleep schedule, that ... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 17:35:54 EST I'm still amazed. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4999705 I've been consistent with my fitness for nine months now. I work out on the low end 120 minutes in a week to 1,330 minutes in a week on the high end. Nine months of building up my strength, my confidence and my fitness level.

I've only lost 32 pounds since October, but I have lost so much more. I've lost negative thinking about what my body can do. I've lost the need to eat emotionally. I've lost that voice in my head telling me I can't do it. I've lost 3 sizes. I've lost ... I don't know why I keep doing this because I can never reach a solid pace. And my dog likes to lunge at and attack moving vehicles. Really Dog!? You think you are going to win against that UPS truck. I think not. I got about a mile run, the rest was walking.

Back to boot camp. I got there early and one of m... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 10:30:28 EST Dinner with Friends http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4992908 Last night I was invited to my girlfriend's house for dinner. She is an old friend from High School and I haven't seen her in 20 years. Although we did connect through Facebook a few years ago. It was a reunion of sorts because there were several people there from High School.

We came together, to cook, to eat, and laugh. It was an amazing time. The most amazing thing is that since we all know how to cook, there was a cohesive chaos in the kitchen. It was the best time I've h... Mon, 30 Jul 2012 10:37:39 EST Visiting a foodie town http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4989929 Even though I grew up in Chicago, I haven't lived here in 11 years. I love food, which is why I am in the process of losing weight. I am a foodie at heart, but not in body anymore. Visiting Chicago is a test for the greatest of will power. That being said, I have been able to choose amazing foods that are all extremely healthy.

Today, it was all about the Mediterranean! I LOVE this food. I went to this wonderful place in the Wicker Park area called Sultan's. If you are eve... Fri, 27 Jul 2012 23:02:48 EST Chicago update http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4988103 I got a great night sleep last night. I was dreaming that I went out running. When I got up this morning, that's exactly what I did. I had a piece of whole grain bread with some peanut butter, swallowed my vitamins and off I went. It had rained overnight, so it was very humid out there. Like running in a sauna. Luckily, it was only about 76 degrees, a far cry from the 100 degrees we had here yesterday. I ran for 2 miles, walked about 2 blocks but ran the rest! Then I stopped off at th... Thu, 26 Jul 2012 16:08:05 EST Aftermath http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4986979 Last week was a crazy fitness week for me. I went a little nuts with all the working out. Saturday, I was going to do a boot camp, but I had to take my Brother in Law to the hospital. He's a smoker, and after he finished his first cig of the day, he passed out. I mean he really hit the deck. I had to force him to go to the ER. He was going to drive himself!? I spent most of the morning in the ER. They admitted him and he had to stay over night for tests and observation. The good n... Wed, 25 Jul 2012 21:36:55 EST How many fitness minutes did I complete this week? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4979806 My fitness minute total as of today is 418. That's a lot! I've done 143 today. Tomorrow, I am going to do an hour bootcamp, and a 1/2 hour dog walk. That's it. But it will take me to over 500 fitness minutes for the week. I'm soooooo tired, but I feel so good.

Next week, I am going to Chicago to stay with my sister in law while my brother is out of town. I doubt that I will get more than 90 minutes of fitness there. I'll try to run, but I will probably end up being distrac... Fri, 20 Jul 2012 22:07:34 EST I'm a winner! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4978367 Yesterday, we had an individual challenge boot camp. We were all given a chart with 8 rounds of various exercises with different amounts. Whoever got through the most rounds won a free one on one with the trainer. I won! I just blazed through the workout. I thought for sure that there were other people that got through more than I did, but I completed the most. It's a weird feeling to have won something based on athletic ability and stamina. It's been an incredibly long time since I co... Thu, 19 Jul 2012 21:11:40 EST Five Miles http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4971834 Today I ran 3 miles with the dog. Not a good strategy. My dog likes to lunge at moving cars, barks and howls at other dogs, and whines at chipmunks and squirrels. I thought that by running, she would be too distracted trying to keep up with me to do any of these things. Alas, I was mistaken. So lesson learned, no dog on my runs. It was still a good run, even though it took me a little longer because I had to stop occasionally to untangle myself from the leash.

I took a 2 mile... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 20:48:38 EST Good intentions. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4970511 So, this week of fitness caught up with me on Friday. I had all the good intentions of getting up for boot camp at 6:30 AM, but I didn't make it. I was so sore, I decided to take Friday as my rest day instead of Sunday. I'm so glad I did too, because I could barely walk. LOL It's all good though, sometimes you have change things up.

Today, I got up for a 9:30 AM football field boot camp. It was hard, but super fun! We had a relay race at the end. My team came in 2nd. Whi... Sat, 14 Jul 2012 21:19:28 EST 30 minutes...yeah right! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4967815 After yesterday's crazy workouts, I was going to take it easy today and only do 30 minutes. WAS being the operative word in that sentence.

When I got to the gym, my trainer was going to workout with my friend. He invited me to join them so I could workout for 1 hour instead of 30 minutes. Stupid me...I joined them.

I really have no room to complain, but I am soooooo sore. I think the only muscles in my body that don't hurt are my facial muscles.

Gues... Thu, 12 Jul 2012 21:30:53 EST 165 Fitness Minutes Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4966346 I think I have officially lost my mind. I logged 165 fitness minutes today. Yes, you are absolutely correct, I am crazy. Here is the breakdown:

30 minute 1 mile dog walk - This was about as leisurely as it got today.

75 minute Football Field boot camp - The following is a list of things that I remember doing and it by no means a complete list.
Suicides to the 50 yard line.
Side shuffle while tossing a medicine ball the whole length of the football field ... Wed, 11 Jul 2012 22:43:18 EST I ran a 5k...yes I did. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4964329 Sunday was my day for triumph! I ran my first 5k. I ran it in 40 minutes and ranked 3rd in my age group!

Today, I ran another 2.5 miles. I'm pretty sure I'm addicted to running. I've decided to start training for a 10k.

Feeling really, really good! I've been travelling a lot, so there wasn't much time to log in. I am happy to say, even though I haven't tracked food or exercise, I still managed to lose a pound.

Just because I wasn't tracking my food and exercise didn't mean that I was slacking off. I still ate very well. I just can't go back to eating bad, my body protests something awful. Believe me I have tried. And I may not have exercised as much as I usual, but I stil... I LOVE IT! I feel really great afterwards. I asked him if we could do a boxing workout at least once a week and he agreed. Woo Hoo!

Now that my niece is out of school, we have been spending a lot of time together. Between her and the dog, I can't even go to the bathroom alone. I tracked everything, even the late night snack that I had. I didn't do very well with the calories, but it was a conscience choice. I got right back on track the next day. I just have to say that I love a good craft beer. I really enjoyed every sip.

Next Saturday is my birthday. I'm not really feeling it this year. Then, if they apologize and I don't respond in an "appropriate" way, they get mad at me. WTF! How about this, I don't feel like forgiving you for being an a-hole when YOU want me to. I need to come to forgiveness in my own time, which I will because I don't hold onto things for very long. I especially don't like it when I'm emo... GRRRRRRRRRRRRR Tomorrow is another day.

I had a great workout yesterday though. I was on a mission. My trainer likes to do this workout called cards. It hasn't been bad, I've been gaining muscle and strength. Tweaking my caloric intake, changing what I eat, carbs, fat, protein and so on. I've lost 4 pounds in the last week. I think I am finally out of this plateau. I'm going to keep marching toward my goal weight. I'm so, so glad that I didn't give up, even though I was so discouraged at times with the lack of movement on the scale.

Hanging tough and fighting f... Tue, 5 Jun 2012 08:05:31 EST C'mon, keep it going. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4912393 I signed up for 8 more weeks of boot camp. I'm still in a plateau, but I've gone down a few pounds in the last week. That's progress. I'm slightly afraid that if I don't keep going to these classes, that I won't work out as intensely. So, I am going to keep it going.

Today, I did a lot of things. Finally got some cleaning done. Did all the floors, did the windows (inside and out), and I washed down all the cabinetry with Murphy's oil soap (I love the smell). I also did the g... Mon, 4 Jun 2012 23:00:25 EST Creativity http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4905419 Yesterday was a good day. I made the best lunch, and got to use some of my culinary creativity. You see, I love to cook and to try new things. I also like to think up new recipes, this is another part of my creativity. However, I live with 4 other people who refuse to eat anything new, or anything that has spices in it. So I have tamped down my culinary creativity to the point of frustration. I usually cook dinner for everyone, and am very limited in what people will eat. I want them t... Thu, 31 May 2012 08:12:19 EST Music & Relaxation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4900475 I'm jammin out to some music while I relax after a long day.

I went to the farmer's market, Lowe's and Meijer's this morning. Picked up a few things I needed for the gardens.

Did all the planting in the front flower garden. I also had to "fluff" up the mulch we laid down last year. (I'm an official mulch fluffer. LMAO) I'll need to pick up some more to fill in some spots, but overall it looks good. I also bought some galvanized steel fencing to keep the rabbits out... Sun, 27 May 2012 22:21:17 EST Stir Crazy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4896720 Yesterday at boot camp on the football field, I sprained my ankle bad. Ever hear that popping snapping sound? Yep, that's what it was. So, I iced it, put a compression bandage on it, iced it, elevated it and kept off it. I kept off it ALL DAY today. I'm so bored I could scream. I hate sitting around. Also the dog totally gave me the guilt trip because I couldn't take her for a walk. I'm happy to report the swelling is gone. I can walk without sharp pain, I just get twinges of pain if... Thu, 24 May 2012 21:01:15 EST Ouchie http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4893744 I'm not sure how I did this, however I have pulled a muscle in my backside. And let me tell you, it hurts. I still went to the gym and did a boxing workout with my trainer. While I was doing some high knees into the punch mitts, my ankle collapsed under me, and I landed on my butt hard. I think that may have aggravated the previous injury.

I think I'll be ok. I took some ibuprofen and feel better. Can't let this stop me. Tue, 22 May 2012 22:22:17 EST Weight loss = 0 , Fat loss= ? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4888386 I've been working out hard. My trainer pushes me to the limit, and I push myself. I've done everything from boxing to boot camp in my workouts. I'm always mixing up my cardio, from biking to running to the elliptical.

The scale has not moved since March. However, I continued on. I wasn't discouraged. I've been feeling more athletic and stronger. I continued tracking my food and eating well. I keep going, no matter what the scale says.

My trainer took my measurem... Sat, 19 May 2012 10:07:29 EST How does my garden grow? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4883708 In an effort to have fresh, organic produce. I have planted my very own vegetable garden. I am very excited. I planted all the veggies I use on a regular basis. Lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, acorn squash, and onions. I'm especially excited about the lettuce. Anything other than iceberg is pretty expensive. I've planted several varieties including romaine and leaf lettuce. I'm really hoping that all will turn out, since this is my first veggie garden.

I also feel very accom... Wed, 16 May 2012 07:59:11 EST Got a lot done already! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4876762 Today is going to be a jam packed day full of fun and adventure. Well, maybe not adventure. I've already been up for 4 hours. Went to the gym, got my butt kicked in boot camp. Then did 40 minutes of cardio.

Got home, ate breakfast. Then I cleaned the floors, a big task.

Next, I'm going to finish up a couple gardening projects. I'm turning over some rock laden soil so I can spread some wild flower seeds. Nothing else will grow there. There is also the vegetab... Fri, 11 May 2012 09:27:22 EST
