SABRINASARAH's SparkPeople Blog SABRINASARAH's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Day Nine: Chest & Back Day 9: Chest & Back (63 minutes) - I enjoy this workout. I still get annoyed by the instructor, but now just tune her out and focus on the work. Last week I felt a bit sore the next day, so I'm expecting that again. I guess the reason this workout is good is because you do the basic exercises with enough reps and then enough sets that it breaks down the muscle to be effective. I also use the exercise ball on this one, and I like using the ball!

I also did some other lunges, le... Fri, 28 Jun 2013 08:58:13 EST Day Eight: Cardio Day 8: Cardio (54 minutes) - Yay! The second week has begun!! I was thinking of adding something to this workout, but once I finished this morning, I was already late for work, so nothing additional but my usual walking. The workout was fine. I am doing mainly the advanced versions of the exercises and get a good sweat going. I think I'll add another workout when it comes around again on Sunday.

I have to also state here that I'm extremely happy that I lost one pound this wee... Thu, 27 Jun 2013 01:24:53 EST Day Seven: XTF Arms Day 7: XTF Arms (49 minutes) - This, as entitled, is all about the arms. The workout was OK. Simple, but effective. I don't know why this workout didn't grab me, though. There's just something lacking. Anyway, I do feel my arms got a good workout. I think that I may jump to the more advanced week tomorrow rather than repeating this same grouping again. Or, maybe I'll do this program as prescribed, but add other workouts to it. Hmm... I'm not sure. I just don't feel I'm doing all I ... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 00:16:55 EST Day Six: Hard Core & Stretch Day 6: Hard Core & Stretch (54 + 26 minutes) - Extremely nice easy day. The ab workout was good for sure, but not that taxing really, even if it was 54 minutes long. I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow, but certainly didn't have a problem working the advanced routine. The stretch was ok. There are other programs which have better stretch workouts, so I may change up both the abs and stretch DVD's from this program with others I have used. I'll see, though. I don't want to go too far off the... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 00:36:20 EST Day Five: Cardio Day 5: Cardio (54 minutes) - OK, back to the first workout again. I tried it with the music on, but didn't really get into the techno music. I did like the workout better this time, though. I was able to work harder than the first time and had fun. The 54 minutes went by pretty quickly. Yay!!

I spent a lot of the day at the garden. I got a sunburn, though, unfortunately. It was difficult doing anything with my hand in a soft cast, but I got by. I can imagine I will have an... Mon, 24 Jun 2013 00:14:47 EST Day Four: XTF Legs Day 4: XTF Legs (53 minutes) - Good leg strength training routine. It went fast (didn't even seem like it much time had gone by and then it was over). I enjoyed this very much. After that, I went to spin class. My legs are a bit sore, but not too bad. I hope they feel OK tomorrow!! Sun, 23 Jun 2013 00:37:26 EST Day Three: Circuit Burnout Day 3: Circuit Burnout (80 minutes) - This was a great workout. I really like that there are so many options/levels to choose from during this workout. Also, going from higher heart rate to lower heart rate really makes you sweat. There are several supersets so even though you repeat them several times, you never get too tired of the exercises. I also like that the first time through you do the most sets and as you repeat them, you do less of them.

The only other thing I can... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 02:37:17 EST Day Two: Chest & Back X-TrainFit: Chest & Back (63 minutes) - I finished Day 2 of this new program. I will be playing these workouts this week without any music so that I can hear all the instruction, with the plan that after seeing the video once, I can then play it with music and feel I'm missing anything (based on previous experience with TurboFire where you can't hear anything but music when you choose that version). Well, I will be happy to have music playing pretty soon. The workout was great. It was an... Thu, 20 Jun 2013 14:42:31 EST New Exercise Program - Day One: Cardio Finally! Although two weeks ago I stated that I'd be back the next day with my plan, I wasn't. I was just coming back and decided not to overwhelm myself too much. I have been tracking my food every day. (I haven't always stayed within the calorie range, but I'll work on that.) I have also been exercising every day. However, the exercise was never planned too much unless there was a class I wanted to take at the gym or when I hired a trainer to learn Muay Thai boxing. I made sure I wal... Thu, 20 Jun 2013 00:49:41 EST Getting Back Into the Swing of It OK, I think I need to start organizing my life again. I need to set goals and checklists for how I'll achieve those goals. I look at other friends on SP and see some amazing exercise programs. I'll have to figure out what will work best for me - or at least what I can do to move myself along. I still want to lose a few pounds. I'm about 7 pounds away from my goal weight. Yay! The problem is I feel really flabby (not having exercised in a while). I think I will contemplate this a bit a... Thu, 6 Jun 2013 10:36:39 EST New Way of Eating I can't believe it's been since January that I wrote my last blog! Well, for those of you who don't know me, I had surgery at the end of January. I had been sick for a while and the doctors couldn't figure out what was wrong. I finally had to have surgery and now I am feeling better. However, I now have to follow a very specific diet which has changed my life forever...

Things I can now eat:
fruit
vegetables
beans/legumes
whole grains

Things I can... Wed, 5 Jun 2013 09:47:24 EST How NOT to end the year!!! I had been so proud of myself for all I had accomplished this past year. I got myself in a full-time exercise routine including finishing Insanity twice and Asylum once. I was tracking my food every day and found how easy it was to keep within the daily calorie allotment as long as I kept track. I was juggling several projects at work and even though stressed, was able to get through everything with a positive ending.

Then came Thanksgiving. OK, my mom came to stay for a week a... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 08:48:51 EST Reflection Day Well, it's been since September that I have reflected on my goals. I think it's a good day to review those goals and see how I'm doing.

I had said that there were several things I need to work on in order to lose weight. They include: tracking my food every day, getting in 60-90 minutes of cardio exercise a day, strength training 3 times per week, core work every day, less stress by adding meditation, and make sure I get enough sleep.

Hmm...Well, some of these I did w... Fri, 9 Nov 2012 11:11:10 EST Asylum - Day 29 & 30 - I'M DONE!!! Speed & Agility
Fit Test

I cannot believe my Asylum program is actually over. It went really fast, I think. I haven't lost a lot of weight from the program, but I definitely added some muscle. I am trimmer, so that's a good thing.

I really liked this program as it was just plain fun to do. It seemed a bit slow at times in terms of the amount of work per day (especially cardio which is why I probably only lost 5 pounds), but it was still fun. I'll use these work... Wed, 7 Nov 2012 06:58:42 EST Asylum - Days 26, 27, and 28!!! OK, I just don't what happened!! Where have my blogs been? Here are the workouts:

Vertical Plyo
Back to Core
Relief

I really liked having all three of these workouts back to back like this. Right after Game Day & Overtime where you're wiped out, you come back strong with Vertical Plyo. Then, you work your back hard, and then you stretch. They really do all go together.

As I can tell by my blog posting, it's a good thing I workout first thing in ... Sun, 4 Nov 2012 17:45:40 EST Asylum - Day 25 Game Day and Overtime!!!! Whew!!!! The longest workout ever! OK, maybe not - it just feels that way. 75 minutes of pure hard work. I had a lot more fun this time even though I was even more out of breath than last time. I think I did better, but who knows. I was able to do some of the totally out of reach exercises of Overtime, so I do feel I conquered something. I'll be happy to do this program again just for this Game Day. it really is fun to me for some reason. Thu, 1 Nov 2012 17:39:35 EST Asylum - Day 24 Strength. OK, we're coming to the end of the program. This is my last strength workout session. I can honestly tell you that I not only feel stronger, I can see muscles forming. Of course, muscle growth really takes about 6 weeks for real change, but I think with the Insanity prep and now Asylum, my muscles are popping!! I was actually able to go down and do real pushups today. Of course, by the end I couldn't go as far down as I did when I started, but that's OK. I'm working on it. I... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 23:33:43 EST Asylum - Days 22 & 23 Rest & Speed and Agility. It was hard to take Monday off, but I did per the schedule. Today turned out differently than I thought it would. I thought I would be on top of my game because of the rest. Ha, ha! I was breathless and totally uncoordinated. What happened??? I can say that I'm increasing my speed and doing better which is why I was more breathless than the last time, but uncoordinated?? I can't believe how many left feet I must have! At one point I jumped on the ladder whic... Wed, 31 Oct 2012 00:58:26 EST Asylum - Day 21 Back to Core. 12 minutes cardio (jumping jacks - that's it) and 36 minutes strength. It really works the back. Because the Game Day soreness in my butt is still there, I really felt today's workout -everywhere - not just the back. I've been able to figure out what to do for the reverse planks where I still work but don't hurt the back of my knees and wrists. Yay! It only took me a couple of times through! Asylum really is paying off. I haven't seen big weight loss numbers, but I feel ... Sun, 28 Oct 2012 14:10:45 EST Asylum - Day 20 Vertical Plyo AND Overtime. I was supposed to do Overtime with Game Day, but didn't have time. I ended up TRYING to do it with Vertical Plyo. I say "trying" because for such a short workout (about 10 minutes), the exercises are super tough. There were a few I just couldn't do physically. These had to do with kneeling/squatting down and then jumping up to do some move and then going back down in the kneeling position. My knees just can't take exercises like that. I went super slow and h... Sat, 27 Oct 2012 23:59:06 EST Asylum - Day 19 Game Day. Yowza. What a workout!! I like still like it because even though it's a long one, the exercises change up every few minutes. It certainly doesn't get dull nor do you have to repeat anything lucky number three times (Shaun's favorite). I still am having major problems, though, with the mountain climbing section aka pushups. I just don't have the upper body strength needed. I'll need to really work on that.

I was supposed to also do Overtime today, but couldn't fit i... Fri, 26 Oct 2012 22:37:01 EST Asylum - Day 18 Relief. Another recovery day of just stretching. I can't afford to just stretch, so I added cardio for the day (and some TNT). I do like stretching, though. I plan on using Relief every day beyond Asylum. Fri, 26 Oct 2012 00:26:26 EST Asylum - Day 17 Strength. 50 minutes strength training. Great workout - again!

I have to qualify what I said last time I did this workout. There are a few abdominal exercises that are matched with chest presses. So, when I said that the only ab stuff was working on keeping your core strong for the whole workout, I was mistaken. You do that AND have these couple exercises for the abs at the end. I still don't really feel I'm working my abs that much, but I hear in Asylum 2, Shaun T. has a ful... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 23:31:30 EST Asylum - Day 16 Vertical Plyo. 40 minutes of great cardio - speed, agility, and lots of jumping. I am so happy that this workout is so streamlined. In 40 minutes, I don't know if you could get a better overall body workout. I wish there were more workouts, but having the few all so good, is second best. Wed, 24 Oct 2012 00:37:01 EST Asylum - Day 15 Half Way Mark - Speed & Agility. I know that I'm doing better because this workout was harder yet again. There were a few times I had to stop because my heart rate went way high. I can see that my speed is increasing, but I'm still not all that coordinated. I am doing better (and not getting caught in the ladder at all), but I'm no Shaun T.!!! Ha, ha!

I ended up doing Relief after the workout. I really like to stretch after working out so hard. I think I'm going to do Reli... Mon, 22 Oct 2012 23:27:46 EST Asylum - Day 14 OK, somewhere I lost a day. Oh well...

Relief today. A nice, very nice stretching routine. It was nice to be able to do this today. I also did the Fit Test (before Relief) for the half-way mark. I was glad to see I improved all across the board on all exercises. Not so bad!

I've been taking it easy, so I'm glad I did that first thing and had time to relax the rest of the day. Sun, 21 Oct 2012 22:43:49 EST Asylum - Day 12 Strength. This workout is so good. I really like it the best of all the Asylum workouts. It's just a good strength training workout, so you feel like you've hit all the main muscle groups. I could use a bit more in the core, but since you're using your core the whole time, it's not bad. I also was able to figure out what to do about my hands hurting from the end elbow planks to straight arm planks to rows...I just don't put my hands on the hand weights until I make the move to do the row... Sun, 21 Oct 2012 00:11:53 EST Asylum - Day 11 Game Day. Wow! Great 60 minute workout. It's intense but not that intense because you are constantly moving onto a new exercise/sport to do. Nothing is repeated so it's really rather fun. Even the 10 mile run or whatever it's called at the beginning (basically a warm-up) was fun to do. I couldn't do all the pushups during the mountain climbing session, so I suppose that's my weakest area. At least I have something to focus on!! Also, I was a bit slow on everything, even though I never... Fri, 19 Oct 2012 00:27:52 EST Asylum - Day 10 Relief. 25 minutes of stretching. Nice. Today's was such a nice workout. I can't believe Shaun T. didn't make it worse than it was. No power yoga - no cardio - just plain stretching. Yum! Unfortunately, later at work I didn't feel well, so even though I had planned on doing some cardio, I just decided not to do anything else for the rest of the day. I hope I feel better tomorrow!! Wed, 17 Oct 2012 21:32:49 EST Asylum - Day 9 Vertical Plyo. Yeah, it's lots of jumping and stuff. It wiped me out (again harder the second time), but I still really enjoyed it. It's fun. And, it was short so the pain went away fast. Great workout. Wed, 17 Oct 2012 00:47:30 EST Asylum - Day 8 Back to Core. 12 min. cardio - 36 min. strength training

First of all, let me say that my body is not sore from the strength training yesterday. I was worried since I increased my hand weights a bit that I would be sore, but I'm not. Yay! (Or should it be NoYay because I should feel sore????) Anyway, I felt great this morning for the workout.

The workout was again fun. I don't mind doing a million different kinds of jumping jacks, so the cardio is pretty simple. I... Mon, 15 Oct 2012 16:00:05 EST Asylum - Day 7 Strength - I do love this workout. It involves a bit of circuit training so there is some cardio work, but mainly this 50-minute workout hits all major muscle groups for a full-on strength training workout. I increased from the 5-pound to 8-pound hand weight. I liked the heavier weight. I felt it this time in my shoulders, and I'm sure I'll be sore tomorrow. The workout is also not too much where you feel like you're going to collapse. The only thing I don't feel comfortable with is the... Sun, 14 Oct 2012 11:31:41 EST Asylum - Days 5 & 6 Day 5 - Rest Day. Day 6 - Speed and Agility.

First, I was surprised that we already had a rest day, but since this is one of only two rest days for the 30 days, I'm happy it came when it did. The rest was welcome with everything that has been going on in my life. It also came at a perfect time because I had just finished my project the night before.

Second, I was also surprised at how much harder Speed and Agility was this morning from the first day. I was not as u... Sat, 13 Oct 2012 21:18:19 EST Asylum - Day 4 Vertical Plyo. 40+ minutes of pure adrenalin-pumping cardio. Using the ladder mainly, but also the jump rope, you get a really great workout. This is different from Insanity, so my heart rate was back up again. Yay!! I'm glad each of these workouts is quick but intense. You really feel the work, and boy was I sore from yesterday!! Thu, 11 Oct 2012 20:49:32 EST Asylum - Day 3 Back to Core - A combo workout. The first 12 minutes are all sorts of different jumping jacks and other cardio moves. The rest of the workout, about 36 minutes, is strength training using power bands and your own body. Again, this is a nice change up from Insanity. I love that I'm getting strength training in! I think that this difference will definitely help restructure my body. I'm a little sore from yesterday, so even with the smaller weights, it did something. Yay!
Wed, 10 Oct 2012 12:15:19 EST Asylum - Day 2 Strength (50 minutes) - Today's workout incorporated either hand weights or a resistance band for most of the workout. I used 5 pound weights, but next time I'll use something a bit heavier. I was told to use something light, but I think I went too light. Oh well, at least I didn't hurt myself! I love that this workout is strength training and not cardio. Lots of push ups and ab stuff along with the weights. I'm enjoying the difference from Insanity, so 2 thumbs up for this routine! Th... Tue, 9 Oct 2012 19:47:11 EST Asylum - Day 1 Speed & Agility (45 minutes) - First day of Asylum - YAY!! It was just what I was hoping for - something new and different from Insanity and something that challenges me. The workout has lots of jump roping, plank walking, and burpees. I need to become better coordinated, that's for sure. The ladder is fun to use, but I swear my feet were moving on their own rather than going into the squares where I was mentally telling them to go. My heart rate was higher than it's been in a while. I ... Mon, 8 Oct 2012 10:51:13 EST Insanity: The Asylum Vol. 1 - Fit Test (before start of program) Athletic Performance Assessment - 9 exercises that will be tested today, Day 15, and Day 30 (the last day of the program). Today was my introduction to Asylum. All of the exercises were either somewhat different or completely different from the ones in Insanity - which is a good thing. I like that there are variations (or new moves) so that I'm not doing the same thing again. The warmup was relatively short this time. I do like the addition of the jump rope to get the heart going. All i... Sat, 6 Oct 2012 13:13:44 EST Insanity - Day 63 - THE END Ha, ha! I can't believe I forgot on the final day of Insanity that i didn't blog. Ha, ha! Anyway, it's done. Yay!! My Fit Test went super. I did better than I could have ever imagined when I began this four months ago. I don't think I even knew if I would last when I started the first time. It was really hard for me. This second time around the program was so much easier - mentally. Because I improved my fitness level, I was able to work harder the second time, so I wouldn't say the... Wed, 3 Oct 2012 22:22:17 EST Insanity - Day 62 Max Cardio Conditioning & Abs - Ahh!! Last day of the regular workouts!! Only the Fit Test tomorrow and I'm DONE!!!! Although not officially over yet, it looks like Insanity has done nothing but good things to my body. I've lost weight, gained muscle mass, and am just able to move better. I'm so happy I chose to go through this program twice in a row. Now for the Fit Test... Will I improve from the very first test I took? Absolutely! There is no way I couldn't have improved. The que... Sat, 29 Sep 2012 19:50:55 EST Insanity - Day 61 Max Interval Plyo - Last time for a while on this one. Pushups and lots of jumps. All I can say is YAY! I'm done with Plyo!! OK, only two more days...can I handle it?? On another note, of course I don't have Asylum yet. I guess it'll be delivered on Tuesday next week. So, I am planning now to start Asylum on Wednesday. I'll probably do Core Cardio & Balance for those two days prior. What a drag! I just hope Asylum is as good as I've heard. Otherwise it's off to Tap Out XT, right, B... Fri, 28 Sep 2012 20:46:33 EST Insanity - Day 60 Core Cardio & Balance - Recovery Day - So I'm nearing the end of Insanity, Rounds Two. This workout, again, was very easy to do. It's funny how the first time I did this one, it was during the first recovery week. My arms burned at the end and were shaking as I tried to hold them up. Today I barely noticed the arms. It was a little uncomfortable by the end, but nothing difficult by any means. The same goes for the knee lifts and pulsing and extensions. The first time through, I had to ... Fri, 28 Sep 2012 08:07:49 EST Insanity - Day 59 Max Interval Circuit. OK, I know what I said yesterday. This workout I do not have memorized. I do know how it's broken up (warm-up, three sets of exercises repeated three times each plus some extras thrown in), but I never remember what exercises we're going to do until Shaun T. demonstrates. It kept me more motivated having to wait to see which exercise was next. Also, I was super sweaty this workout. I think I really pushed myself to the limit today as it's the last one of these for ... Thu, 27 Sep 2012 00:31:27 EST Insanity - Day 58 Max Cardio Conditioning & Cardio Abs - OK, definitely need to change it up a bit. I think I have this whole DVD memorized too. And since it's the shortest of the Max workouts, it makes it even shorter (if you can understand how that could be possible). I'm not just walking my way through these workouts either. I'm really working's just maybe boredom makes it less fun? I don't know. I will say that I felt my abdominals throughout the entire ab workout. I was able to do everyth... Tue, 25 Sep 2012 17:38:57 EST Insanity Days 56 & 57 Yesterday was my last Rest Day and today was Max Interval Plyo. I felt my pushups to be a bit stronger today. Glad it was a rest day yesterday. I think I needed to rest my body a bit. I was also able to continue through the workout no problem. Of course, I'm a bit slower at points than the crew on TV, but I was consistent and didn't stop. (I'm thinking of the power jumps here as I'm super slow with those. It's like one... ... two... ... three... ... ha, ha!)

I can't believe ... Mon, 24 Sep 2012 16:21:37 EST Insanity - Day 55 Core Cardio & Balance...Again, the easiest workout of all Insanity. I like it on one hand because it is so easy, but on the other, it's certainly not a challenge. Who does Insanity for anything but a challenge??? So, for once in a while, it's fun, but for everyday, no way...too easy. Sat, 22 Sep 2012 23:29:30 EST Insanity - Day 54 Max Interval Circuit - 60 minutes of fun. Actually, this one I follow by checking off in my mind the three different sections after the warm up and stretch. I know that each section repeats three times, and at the end of two of them, Shaun T. sneaks in an extra exercise to keep us going just that much longer. Luckily, I felt good today, and I kept up with everything. The only other thing I'll say is I'm really over all the burpees - side, ski, and regular. I never knew why I did this exe... Fri, 21 Sep 2012 22:14:54 EST Insanity - Day 53 Max Recovery - The Power Yoga day...Today's workout was another nice one. Lots of squats and lunges. Lots of pushups and up/down planks. Lots of yoga posing. Good sweat build up. Nice relaxing day. Ha!! Thu, 20 Sep 2012 22:40:41 EST Insanity - Day 52 Max Cardio Conditioning & Abs - Today was the one workout where Shaun T. goes crazy and doesn't stop for a very long time! I do like this workout because it's not the same repetitive moves three times in a row. It just changes up all the time. I did OK this morning. I'm kinda distracted, but was able to focus enough to get a great workout anyway. My abs were screaming at the end of the abs workout too. So, chalk another day down. Woo Hoo!! Wed, 19 Sep 2012 18:05:42 EST Insanity - Day 51 Max interval Plyo - Still my least favorite, but I was in it today. I did well, thankfully. I left for work then early and have been busy all day. I'm also thinking about my dog who is not doing too well. I have been distracted today for sure. At least I was able to focus during the workout and channel some of that stress there. Tue, 18 Sep 2012 22:08:50 EST
