Didn't log my food http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5995175 I ran about 3 miles this morning and it took me way too long to do it. I forgot my phone and I didn't take my Garmin, so I don't know the exact distance. I do know that I ran for about 49 minutes. We went out at 5:00am. It was the same route I did on Saturday and Monday - the Loop. Today sucked.

It didn't suck because of my tendons. In fact, those felt fine (YAY! The PT was right!) Instead it was because of how miserably warm and humid it was even that early. Our weather ... Fri, 11 Sep 2015 00:41:32 EST Stressed Achilles, but turns out I'm okay http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5994478 I bought a couple Achilles tendon bands that I wore yesterday when I ran. Turns out that's what made me sore. While they have really great reviews, and they fixed countless people, it turns out all those countless people are experiencing their Achilles pain in a different place than I do. There are three main places people usually experience Achilles pain:

1) Right at the point where the tendon attaches to the heel (right on the back of the heel)
2) an inch or so above #1 ... Wed, 9 Sep 2015 23:52:37 EST HOT!!!! Tough runs, massage http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5993595 Oh my holy heck it's hot!! HOT!!! It's 106 degrees today. It never went below 74 degrees last night. So my 5am run was at 74 degrees. That's not bad, I'm not complaining about that, but it's usually in the upper 50s or 60s or something.

Clog has been cleared. It was 11 feet down the pipes. I watched the plumber and learned how to properly snake a deep clog. I like learning stuff like that so that I'm more self-sufficient. I can add it to my irrigation and getting rid of an... Tue, 8 Sep 2015 18:21:19 EST 4.5 mile run, 40 mins of trampoline, new shoes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5993126 I started this morning with a 4.5 mile run around the loop. I started later than I'd have liked, it was kind of hot. Our temperatures are soaring again. It wasn't too bad, but I definitely stuck to the sides of the road that had the most shadows. The waterfall at the entrance to the loop had obviously had its chemicals refreshed recently, it looked like someone had poured in a bunch of bubble bath. One clump of suds was about 3.5 ft tlall and looked like a foamy ice berg. So of course I... Tue, 8 Sep 2015 01:32:48 EST 3 mile run, and starting a C25K session for someone http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5992183 This was a slower run. We had a woman in our group who stopped to walk a bit, so we'd slow down or run backwards while talking. So final pace was about a 13 min/mile. But since I know I could run faster, I'm totally good with it.

The group I run with at 0500 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays is called the "Slower/shorter earlybirds" They're an offshoot of a group of hard-core women who run longer distances at faster paces. So they meet at generally the same time and at the s... Sun, 6 Sep 2015 16:46:44 EST Ran 4.7 miles, Recent Record http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5991510 This is my first blog thumb-typed on my phone. We'll see if it posts to my page like other blogs. This morning I woke up and decided to run a big loop around my neighborhood. I didn't remember exactly how long it was but thought it was around 3 miles. I think it is but I wasn't thinking about the distance to and from the loop from my house. So I wound up doing 4.7 miles on a mostly hilly route. While my pace was still a 12:14 I can live with that because of the hills. I love post-run weig... Sat, 5 Sep 2015 12:43:25 EST Ran 3 miles today, feeling good http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5990463 My left Achilles tendon has been less happy lately (in the past it was my right tendon that was the biggest problem), but it's still way less sore than it was when I first started running again. So if keeping it under control just means a lot more stretching before my runs and being diligent to stretch a lot after my runs, so be it.

I'm running with a group of women in my town through Moms Run This Town (MRTT). My area's group is extremely active. There are multiple groups runni... Thu, 3 Sep 2015 19:03:39 EST Ran 3.6 Today and an Interesting Update for Work http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5989888 My laptop battery is really low. I’m going to have to save frequently if I expect to keep from losing this blog. I’m sitting at the kids’ gymnastics lesson right now. This is my typical Monday and Wednesday night.

Today I went for a run around my base (I work on an Air Force base). I didn’t start my run until almost 11. That was a mistake. It wasn’t as hot as it’s been lately, but it was probably still in the low 80s when I started. I also didn’t have my runn... Wed, 2 Sep 2015 21:50:20 EST Good Weigh-In, as predicted http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5988491 Today’s weigh-in was good. I weighed 193.6. I didn’t do sit-ups last night, just pushups. So tonight I’ll do them. I don’t know exactly where I’ll be for the fitness test, but luckily I don’t really need to do great this time. Normally I get above a 90 which means I test once a year (April). But since I tested with a waiver this past April it automatically meant I had to test again in 6 months. On top of that my score was an 80-something which also requires me to test every... Tue, 1 Sep 2015 01:15:49 EST 'Nother Run http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5987717 I ran this morning with my women’s group. But because we had a walker and the group isn’t willing to split up, one of the women who’d run 5 miles yesterday walked with her and the other two of us ran back and forth between the other two women and the next landmark. All in all we ran 3.2 miles. 41 minutes. My tendons have been a little more sore recently. Not too bad, but more sore than I was a few weeks ago.

My kids have been sick the last few days. My son got it first... Sun, 30 Aug 2015 22:48:21 EST Ran a hill http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5986996 I was kind of tired yesterday and it was so incredibly hot so I decided not to run or work out and just take the day off. This morning I got up at about 0600 and it wasn’t too hot yet so I headed out. I went 2.1 miles and the first .8 was straight up hill. It’s the old path I used to take from my house. I’d been wondering when I’d be ready to go do it again. My tendons were a bit sore today so I did a lot of stretching afterward. But I ran almost a mile up hill. It’s about a 360 ft... Sat, 29 Aug 2015 19:29:44 EST 3.8 mile slow run, uniform getting less tight http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5985875 I ran with the women’s group this morning. 0500. I was slower today than last time. But I did 3.8 miles which was a recent distance record. But I did it in a 12+ min/mile. I started out fine, but lost some speed as the run went on. I also had to cut it short. I thought the group was leaving at 0445, but found out after I’d arrived it was actually 0500. While it meant I had more time for stretching before the run, it also meant that with a slow 4 mile run planned I was going to be ... Thu, 27 Aug 2015 17:19:24 EST Back to Running http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5984706 I ran again today (first run after Thursday’s sprained ankle scare). Just a mile and a half in the morning. My time was about 20 seconds slower than last time. I think it was probably the humidity though. Way more humid today (raining in parts of So Cal) than it was last week (standard dry hot weather). It was still a sub 17:00 mile and a half though. I’ll get faster as I add more distance.

I had my physical therapy appt today. My therapists and staff were stunned at how ... Tue, 25 Aug 2015 19:16:58 EST On track today, my saboteur, incline walk (getting back in the saddle) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5983510 Today was a good day again. No pain in the ankle, I was on track with food. At the end of the day I was low on calories and protein and I still had some room for fat as well, so I thought about what I had available that fit that bill. I decided to try non-fat milk, peanut butter, and a little chocolate syrup. I was hoping it would taste good. OMG, it tasted awesome! 1.5 c of milk, 2 Tbs peanut butter, and 1 Tbs chocolate syrup. YUM! It was like drinking a peanut butter cup without the... Sun, 23 Aug 2015 23:36:56 EST Ankle Roller Coaster http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5982890 I created a blog last night that was lost in a posting error. I hate those. I usually write my blogs in Word and then copy/paste, but I was on my new laptop and just didn't bother. Mistake.

I’ve been on an emotional roller coaster with my ankle for the past couple days. On Thursday morning I went on my first early morning run (0445) with a group of women. I didn’t bring a flashlight myself, but they had them. I thought that would be good enough. I was wrong. I was run... Sat, 22 Aug 2015 22:47:42 EST Great run, twisted ankle, hopeful and doing fine http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5981627 [9:00 am] This morning I ran with a women’s running group (Moms Run This Town) at 4:45 am. That gave me time to run, then return home in time to wake up my daughter for school, shower, get her ready to go, and get out of the house on time (6:30). And now I’ve exercised for the day. We went 3.47 miles at an 11:15 pace for a total time of 39:02. Nice! It was mostly on asphalt with a little dirt and some sidewalk. It was dark and I kind of twisted my right ankle at one point on some un... Thu, 20 Aug 2015 16:58:21 EST Great Day Today: Reports on Incline Walk, Run, and Food http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5981072 Today I went out to just run the 1.5 miles I have to do for Air Force Fitness tests. I test again in October. I’m required to run the 1.5 in less than 18:14 or I fail the test. It pays to be old. I’m 43 so I get to run slower than the 20- and 30-somethings. (for my Sparkbuddies older than me, no I don’t really consider myself old. But I’m among the older folks still active in the military.)

(one month flashback) On July 20th I ran my first recent mile and a half and d... Wed, 19 Aug 2015 19:23:04 EST Today's struggle (food) & a 5K in October! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5980603 [10am] Today's struggle: Sticking to food plan. I was right on yesterday, which I'm very proud of. And I didn't get hungry. I keep a variety of food in a mini-fridge next to my desk and I've got some non-perishables in the bottom drawer of my desk. Today I'll have pretty much what I had yesterday - a Chobani with steel-cut oats, Grapenuts with skim milk, a Sabra Hummus with Pretzels, a Mini Babybel cheese round, a small apple with honey/peanut butter, and some of those red/orange/yellow sn... Wed, 19 Aug 2015 00:56:50 EST Coming back from long-term injury http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5979646 Oh boy. Way too much to talk about right now. I’ve been MIA, and when I’m MIA it doesn’t mean good things. My weight is now back up to 198 (I’d hit 200 a few weeks ago. That was awful. It was a number I’d never expected to see again.) I could get all philosophical about why, but it all comes down to dual Achilles tendonitis for 4 years, lack of exercise, eating badly, and not putting myself and my health at the top of the priority list. I had to stop swimming because I couldn... Mon, 17 Aug 2015 14:02:27 EST Update on Beth, work, ice skating, swimming in the cold, pushup sets http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5563066 Hello, I’m getting less time to post blogs. That’s a good thing. I do more blogs when I’m bored. I’d rather have things to do to keep me busy. Admittedly a few of those things haven’t been pleasant, but when I handle them well and get thanked for doing the right stuff, it makes the hassle worthwhile. I also found out today that while some of the folks here are participating in malicious and uninformed gossip, others are saying *good* things about me behind my back. It’s always nice whe... Thu, 12 Dec 2013 17:56:20 EST I didn't go away. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5559714 Very busy couple of weeks. I went to Hawaii on military transport on Nov 22nd. It was a fun trip. But I definitely drank a few too many umbrella drinks. I’d planned on just having one or two the entire trip, but I didn’t stick to that. As a result, my weight was up when I returned. No shock there.

Then on Tuesday my daughter had her extra tooth removed from the roof of her mouth. She came through with flying colors. She took the IV with no protest, and frankly with some i... Tue, 19 Nov 2013 17:11:06 EST Second Masters Swim Practice http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5544527 I did my second Masters Swimming workout today. This one was much better than the last one. I was able to go to the end because I didn’t have any foot cramping today. I counted up the laps from the drill board today and discovered I did 3,000 yards (120 laps). Then I looked that up and discovered that’s 1.8 miles! Cool!

I tried to find a way to log it that would be the most accurate. My choices in the online fitness tracker were swimming: crawl for 1320 calories or swimming: ... Mon, 18 Nov 2013 16:59:05 EST Steve Got Los Angeles!!! Pushups http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5543147 Hello, 11 pm here in California. Should I be writing a blog? No. Am I? Yeah.

Today’s biggest news is that Steve called me today and told me he finally got Los Angeles effective 1/1/14. Some of you already know what that means. Those who don’t (and care): Steve’s an airline pilot. He’s been working for American Airlines since May 2001. Initially he was based in Chicago. We live in Southern California. But back then that wasn’t a big deal. Most pilots started off based aw... I’ve got my suit on under my uniform. I’ve already pre-loaded the GPS with the address of the complex. I’ve got my registration paperwork and my check. Practice starts at 10:00 and goes until 11:30. I’m currently eating cucumbers and tomatoes with hummus since I know I’ll need fuel for the practice. I’m a little nervous since I haven’t done this before. I haven’t had a coach for swimming sin... It’s 10pm and I should be going to sleep, or at least going upstairs. But I’ve finally finished what I was working on and want to get to this blog. I had planned on doing the blog last night, but ran out of time. Then I started it at work, and didn’t get very far (you know… actually working.) I’ve been hesitating to blog because of all my false starts over the last few years. There’s a real sense of shame for having gained back 30 lbs from the height of my f... Thu, 14 Nov 2013 01:43:40 EST Ding Dong the Futon's Gone! Exercise bike is in. http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5408093 The dumpster was picked up today, and the futon went with it. Steve helped me take the mattress to the dumpster last Thursday and I broke down the frame and took that out on Friday. Adding to that a whole bunch of empty boxes and various items that didn't go out last week, and the house and garage are a little better than they were.

I set up the exercise bike on Saturday and was able to put the box and all the packing materials in the dumpster. But then when I posted it, it threw an error and didn’t post. It was lost. It’s really frustrating when that happens. Most of the time with my blogs I type it in word or Notepad and then copy paste so that if there’s an error I can just try again and not lose the whole thing. But I didn’t that time. Oh well, live and learn.

Steve never did help me with the futon before he went out of town, so I struggled to get the thing over the low wall... Tue, 25 Jun 2013 14:00:25 EST Futon, and son's staples coming out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5393651 I've eaten very well today, but haven't logged it yet. I will work on making sure I don't overeat tonight. I did have a few handfulls of white chocolate chips last night when I got home - the ones I use for making homemade truffles. I put them away so I won't be tempted again.

I talked to Steve last night about getting the futon out of the exercise room. He's gong to help me. Yay! Mon, 17 Jun 2013 19:12:15 EST Sick at "home" http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5292125 Normally I'd say that getting sick while on a trip is a bad thing. But as a mom to little kids, I've decided it's actually the best timing. Before kids I could lay around in bed or on the couch and concentrate on nothing more than resting, feeling sorry for myself, and when I could take more meds. But once I became a mom I discovered that you don't get time off to be sick. With a husband who's usually not around I would still have to take care of the kids no matter what I felt like. I thi... Tue, 19 Mar 2013 09:11:38 EST Gettin' it done http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5287176 I'm going to try to post some comments and replies tonight to the folks who've commented on my recent blogs - especially the old buddies - but this is going to be a quick blog before I head out to the gym. I'm working the night shift, so I got off work at 0430 and didn't get to sleep until 0530. I slept until about 1130 and then called home to talk to my sister and the kids. I've eaten a little to stave off hunger (a couple mini-tangerines, some of my mixed fresh veggies, and a slice of ch... Fri, 15 Mar 2013 00:01:14 EST Taking my food with me to work tonight http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5286003 I've got my food for dinner all lined up and in the fridge ready for me to take with me to work tonight. When we're on 12 hours shifts people bring us boxed lunches for the meals we miss. But you've got no control over what they bring or give you. The food is terrible (think white bread with a slice of cheese a piece of turkey and a couple packets of mayo and mustard. Wed, 30 Jan 2013 14:03:38 EST Post layoff - Day 3 (aka Go, Beth, Go!!) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5057641 As I mentioned in my recent blogs, I'm walking the kids to and from school. This is no easy feat... it's 1.22 miles almost entirely uphill. My daughter was enthusiastic about the idea until the first day we did it. Since then she's been Little Miss "I'm tired! I'm sweaty! When will we stop walking to school? Why can't we take the car?" She has complained every day we've done it. David's not thrilled to be doing it, but he's also not complaining (although he had fun doing silly rhyming ... The main reason for this is because it's such a huge milestone and it's going to affect a lot of things. I'm going to have more time for exercise. I'm planning to do major organizing and cleaning in my house. I'm going to be job hunting and interviewing. I'm going to be saving money in all kinds of new ways. The one thing all that has in common is the layoff. I might as well label the blogs with the title of the most influe... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 23:31:09 EST Layoff Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5053680 Today was layoff day. What a roller coaster the past 60 days have been. 12.5 years with my company are over, but I'm glad about that. I really think it's sliding down hill fast. Everyone who is still there is terrified they're next, and there's a really good chance of that. It's not paranoia. Our layoff happened because some key contracts haven't been awarded yet. They are seriously delayed. And the biggest of them was one we have been expecting to be awarded (and won by us) "any day ... Tue, 11 Sep 2012 00:17:01 EST People are awesome! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4998381 Hi! I'm back from two separate trips. My last blog was right before I went to S.F. to visit my dad and reclaim my son after he spent 10 days with my Dad at Anne's cabin. I got back from that on Sunday the 22nd. Then on Wednesday the 25th I took both kids to Virginia for my sister’s over-the-top yearly BBQ at her 20-acre horse farm. We were there through this past Monday. The Virginia trip was fun, but a ton of work for many days. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday I went to a seminar with t... Thu, 2 Aug 2012 17:39:30 EST Much happier... weight has been lifted with this layoff http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4978018 I just finished creating a resume explicitly for training. I've applied to the job at ViaSat. I don't know if I'll have a shot at it or not. My salary expectations may be a bit high for a traininer... but I don't know what they have in mind. I also don't have the IP/networking experience they'd like. But I've got everything else. So we'll see if I get a call or not.

I'm realizing I'm a lot happier than I've been in the recent past. I wonder if my chief engineer and program m... Thu, 19 Jul 2012 15:51:25 EST The four Stages of Grief - Acceptance and Hope! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4976638 I'm not giving this blog a title yet. I don't really know what it's going to contain.

I've done well today on food. I have continued to avoid the darn candy dishes all around me. Not easy for me to do. Candy and sweets are my biggest weaknesses. I'm hungry as heck right now. But that's because I finished all my food fairly early in the day and haven't had anything in about 4.5 hours. And my stomach was pretty much used to getting what it wants. But I know that I'll adjust f... Wed, 18 Jul 2012 19:15:27 EST Today http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4975057 It's all about today. What did I do today?

Well, okay, it's also about Sunday and Monday since I didn't post.

I ran 5.2 miles on Sunday. After Steve came home I went for a run. It was nice to get out there. So yesterday I went for a run again after putting Beth to bed. I'm, uh, actually running the AF Half Marathon this year in Sept. Now ask me if I've been training and if I'm where I should be. That would be a resounding, "no". But I'm going to do the event... Tue, 17 Jul 2012 19:08:55 EST Hoo boy - this is for me http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4970766 I need to blog. I need a lot of things. But I need to blog.

These blogs will be for me. I'm going to have a lot of ups and downs and public accountability has helped in the past. But that "public" aspect is going to have to come second to the fact that I'm probably going to have a lot to get off my chest. And blogging seems to help me sort out my thoughts.

I'll admit, that thought-sorting tends to lead to some pretty long and rambling blogs. But so be it. Reread... Sun, 15 Jul 2012 02:14:05 EST Doing okay http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4678509 Just a quick entry to say that I'm still here and doing okay. I'm down to 178 now. I've been silent because this proposal is rounding the last corner and we're all going hot and heavy on it. I've worked late the last 3 out of 4 days, and the day I didn't work late I came in early. At one point the kids didn't see me for two days because I left before they got up and came home after they were asleep. That part sucks. Well, a lot of it sucks, but it puts food on the table.

I wi... Fri, 13 Jan 2012 14:24:22 EST Stayin' On Track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4661031 I was on again with my calories and this morning my weight was indeed below 180 for the second day in a row. I'm going to go to sleep tonight instead of exercising, but I really need to do that for my health (getting a cold) and my sanity (too many nights of not enough sleep will really catch up with me).

I have to go play Air Force for the next three days. I'll be wearing my uniform again. This past year I had to buy one size up in pants and those have become tight. My weight ... Fri, 6 Jan 2012 00:25:27 EST On track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4658605 I did well with food again today. I hadn't pre posted my food to see how many calorie's I'd given myself for breakfast and lunch with what I packed. I had a feeling by about 2:00 that it was probably too low since I was really hungry. But it wasn't until after I'd gotten the kids, fed them, and cleaned the kitchen a bit that I logged everything and discovered how low I was. So I was able to really pick and choose additional things that rounded out what I was deficient in. So I was dead on... Thu, 5 Jan 2012 01:12:52 EST Fall down, pick myself up, find joy (photos) http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4655975 Wow. Because of my absence and what I want to talk about tonight I won't be describing my experience with running in Hood To Coast or with the Air Force Marathon one month later. It seems really weird to skip over those since my last blog was before them both. But if I attempt to describe both of those events I'll get totally bogged down and will never get the rest of this out.

As anyone who knows me, or follows my blogs, or has watched my weight ticker for the last couple years... Wed, 4 Jan 2012 02:55:10 EST Final Major Long Run Report - And H2C is almost here! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4443109 I had Friday off, I had agreed to take the kids to the zoo on Sunday, and Saturday is always jam packed with activities (kids' swim lessons, 2 hour kids' club limit at the gym) so Friday was set to be my long run. But I had to get the kids to school first and I had a dental appt at 8:30 am. So attempting to run outside was out... it would be way too hot at the hour I'd be able to run. So my long run was going to have to be... on a TREADMILL!

My goal was 20 miles. My long run t... Tue, 23 Aug 2011 01:40:32 EST
