The first planned day to the gym was undermined by a snowstorm. When I actually got to go to the gym, I pulled a muscle stretching after my run. Tonight was supposed to be my second night at the gym. And the was a fall out on the baby-sitting part. Thus, this week, I will not meet my goal of three times at the gym. Pretty bummed. Fri, 1 Mar 2013 21:04:09 EST Snow day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5265071 I had everything planned out for this meek - the meetings, the events, the trips to the gym. And then snow came and ruined my planned and awaited trip to the gym. Not cool, snow, not cool. I will somehow need to find another time this week to hit my three- trips-to-the-gym-a-week goal. Tue, 26 Feb 2013 18:11:19 EST Sunday rest http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5262086 My weigh in day is on Tuesday. I did not pick it for any other reason than that's when I joined SparkPeople. The first weigh in after the start was disappointing as pounds were added instead of subtracted. The second one was much better. In roughly two days, I will weigh in again. I am not sure whether or not the scale will move in either direction. But here is what I do know: between Friday and Saturday I ran a bit over 9 miles. It is a major achievement. I have never been sporty in any way.... Sun, 24 Feb 2013 12:25:40 EST The scale http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5256745 Today was the day I finally got to see some movement down on the scale. The first week I started, the scale actually went up. The next week on the day I was going to weigh myself in, the batteries in my scale died. Were they sending me a message of some sort? Anyway, I finally got those special batteries and weighed in today. Between the last time I weighed in (when the number actually went up) and this morning, I lost a little short of 5 pounds. I hope I can continue on the downward road. Tue, 19 Feb 2013 21:38:49 EST 5K http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5252753 I ran my first 5K this morning. I don't think I would have done it had it not been for two friends and co-workers. One of them ended up having an extra registration. The other one graciously agreed to run at my pace through the whole 5K. And she is training for a half marathon, so quite obviously, she could have gone MUCH faster than me. She was my inspiration and encouraged me in the most difficult moments. I am so grateful for her companionship this morning! We came in at 33:40. And that, I... Sat, 16 Feb 2013 15:21:54 EST Valentine's Day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5250830 Well, I have to admit that I ate some chocolates today. Oh, man, and a brownie. Yes, guilty as charged. Today was one of those days (besides being Valentine's Day) when parents bring treats for teachers as a sign of appreciation and just leave them in the lounge for poor helpless us. So, when you go get your half-way healthy lunch, BAM! - brownies and cookies and cakes are staring you in the face. I gave in today, but hoping to be on my best behavior tomorrow. <BR> My son was my Valentine to... Thu, 14 Feb 2013 21:02:59 EST Running outside http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5245332 Since the temperature today was in the 40s, I decided to run outside. I quickly found out that it was not going to be easy. The wind was very strong. There was mud and puddles everywhere. I ended up walking half (?) of the trail around the lake instead of running. I am celebrating the fact that I did it, but am quite concerned about next Saturday. It is my first 5K run and the temperatures are promising to be in the high 20s. If I could barely run today, how will I be able to do it in much lo... Sun, 10 Feb 2013 16:48:11 EST Happy Friday http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5243327 I have been so good this week that I have treated myself to chocolate. And I don't even feel THAT guilty! I mean, obviously, I did not have to have it, but I have plenty of leftover calories to eat, thus, the treat. I ran today too. More exercise tomorrow! Fri, 8 Feb 2013 21:40:04 EST Small victories http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5242100 I usually do not get to eat out during lunch. However, for the last two days due to some changes in the work day and work function, we got to order lunch in. I was SO good today! I only ate half of my sandwich, did not touch the potato chips and, instead of ordering desert for myself, I ordered a gluten-free cookie for my friend with food allergies (she loved me for that one!). And, of course, water, not soda. Working out tomorrow after work! Thu, 7 Feb 2013 20:56:18 EST The Haunting http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5240757 When a students says, "Mrs. Barnes, I have something for you," it is always very intriguing. It could be anything from a praying mantis or dried worm to a note from the parents to lost homework and everything in between. Well, today it was a ... doughnut. Really? Really???? Is it a doughnut payback from yesterday? Since I resisted it once, I was sent another one to be tempted again? Thankfully, it all worked out well with me giving it away. Hooray for me! Celebrate! <em>345</em> Wed, 6 Feb 2013 21:02:14 EST Me VS Doughnut http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5239314 There they were - two dozen. In open boxes. Krispy Cream doughnuts. That was the ultimate test of the day when I came to an after work meeting. And you know what? I won! I did not eat a single one of those tempting beautiful pastries. I am so proud of myself! <BR> On the other hand, my numbers on the scales went up instead of down this morning. Oh, well. Maybe next week! Tue, 5 Feb 2013 21:08:17 EST Half success http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5237905 I was doing well today. Until I discovered a big bag of M'nM's in my colleague's room. That's where it went down. Yes, normally, I would eat even more of those tasty little suckers, so celebrating the slight quantity control. Then, dinner was another slip up. I am, however, very proud of myself of not reaching into my box of chocolate candy to pull one (or two or three) after dinner. I am also happy that I managed to get myself to the gym even though this day was very long and I was very tire... Mon, 4 Feb 2013 22:08:00 EST An excuse? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5236310 I have been a single parent to my son since, well, before he was born due to circumstances beyond my control. He is 4 and a half and is the joy of my life. But on days like today, I wonder if single parenthood is just an excuse that I use not to exercise. Here is the deal, the gym I belong to does not provide child watch on Sundays, so I can't really just pick up and go exercise. But on the other hand, I was wondering today if I needed to give myself a break anyway. I have been pretty station... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 22:04:46 EST The good and the bad http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5234947 So, today is a day of mixed feelings. I did two short exercise videos from SP and then ran the farthest I have run in my whole life without stopping: 3.33 miles (40 minutes) on the treadmill. Three days in the gym this week! All of this is a reason for celebration. However, there is the scale problem. Instead of going down, I went up. Yeah... Good thing I read up on some posts and articles that say not to tie yourself and your progress to the scale. Thus, I am trying to just be happy with the... Sat, 2 Feb 2013 21:27:56 EST Chocolate http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5233859 Chocolate is the one thing I cannot resist. I can eat lots of it, any time of day. My dear mother knows how I feel about this particular food, so, being so kind, she sends me chocolate in big quantities. Not just any chocolate, but some of the best chocolate one can get. It sits in my house in a box content in its deliciousness. It is so hard to resist it. SO, pretty much, I don't. Boy, oh, boy! Would I be a lot healthier if I did not have that box! My goal, since I cannot resist it, is to en... Fri, 1 Feb 2013 22:36:47 EST
