Sat, 4 Jan 2014 01:09:47 EST December Challenges I am doing several challenges right now.

On December 1 I started the Advent study with Good Morning Girls, a free online resource for Bible studies, support. It's kind of like Spark People for women who want to make Bible reading a regular part of their life. It may be only a small amount of time that we have to spend, but it makes a difference. And getting support from other friends (groups online, Facebook, email, messaging) makes it so much easier to find the time to have quiet... Tue, 3 Dec 2013 16:33:44 EST I Am a Morning Exerciser!?...! My goal for the fall was to start working out before work. Tue, 10 Sep 2013 20:26:33 EST Fall Challenge I start a fall workout challenge tomorrow.

Jessica Smith's weekly workouts and challenges have been keeping me motivated since I first found her and did her summer challenge this year. Sun, 25 Aug 2013 14:31:42 EST Fall Challenges Can't believe it is already fall--well, school has started and I am back to work. I am oddly happy and joyful and positive at a time of year that can be busy and stressful but I am at peace and feeling good about this year. I am also consciously choosing to accept things as they are and rather than stressing or worrying about the extra class I'm teaching or the high number of students in my classes I am thinking that I am entrusted with these students for a reason and looking at the new class... Thu, 22 Aug 2013 22:58:40 EST This Week's Class Schedule August 19-24 I started work this past week and it went pretty well.
Students seem kind and eager to learn. Didn't do as well with exercise in the morning the rest of the week but got it done in the afternoon. My goal for this week is to work out before work each morning. Sun, 18 Aug 2013 14:33:51 EST This Week's Class Schedule (August 5-11) I've been following Jessica Smith TV on YouTube since June. She's been a great motivation to me in what to do to workout at home. I love her variety, personal way of interacting and coaching, and her workouts are challenging but not at a level that is unattainable.

This week, my exercise schedule got thrown off. Mon, 20 May 2013 19:51:37 EST Spark Solution Week 1 This week I tried the new book The Spark Solution. It is a two week jumpstart to your healthy lifestyle. It has three meals plus two snacks a day plus a workout plan--day 1 cardio, day 2 strength, day 3 cardio, plus a lot of tips and motivational stories. I have been more active this week, have tried new recipes and have already seen results. As a member of the Spark Solution Team I got a Spark Mail asking if I would write a blog about my experiences with the program so far.

What ... Mon, 20 May 2013 00:36:14 EST Stepping Out of My Comfort Zone: Groove and CycLAvia Sometimes, I am very reluctant to try new things. But I am always glad when I do. Fear holds me back and I overthink things, leading to feeling "stuck". When I take the step toward what makes me afraid, I am always glad I took the risk. I feel freedom from the fear, and release from whatever was holding me back.
Change is hard for me. Recently, I read Who Moved My Cheese. A simple, yet true concept. I am afraid of change. I want to move forward but sometimes I am too hesitant.

... Sun, 5 May 2013 20:26:48 EST LoziLu Women's Mud Run Two Saturdays ago, I had the opportunity to participate in the LozlLu Women's Mud Run. There were some silly/funny touches to this race. Since it was my first mud run I am glad it was all women. They had names for some of the obstacles like "Mud Facial" or "Mani Pedi" (while crawling through mud). They made the race fun, a little comical and a good introduction to mud runs.
I have never been someone who likes dangerous/scary/muddy/painful or super adventurous races so I had to overcome ... Wed, 3 Apr 2013 22:47:13 EST New Year New Goals 2013 I am revising my exercise plan to 4-5 days a week. I am part of the Peak313 Team and they have this as a goal. This is a huge relief for me because I was scheduling 6 days a week, 3 days of running, 3 days of ST plus yoga, pilates, and dance. Until recently, I hadn't been getting my workouts done. I was feeling down and wasn't with the program. I have also let go of the idea of being "perfect" or having an exercise streak. I tried that in December, missed some days and felt terrible. Now, I a... Thu, 10 Jan 2013 20:33:12 EST Holiday Prep, Streaking, and Commitment Day I haven't been on much even though Friday was my last day of school before the break. Saturday was a conference on teaching gifted students and I haven't had much time to update.

*********************

My workout streak has not been perfect. Wed, 12 Dec 2012 08:51:03 EST Two Races and a New 'Do I did a 5k last weekend with my dad. The race was held at Six Flags Magic Mountain Theme Park.

Today, I ran my second half marathon. I would like to share some pictures from the race.

I also got my hair cut (free certificate in goodie bag from a race I did in November!) and colored my hair this week. Sun, 9 Dec 2012 22:55:10 EST #31WorkoutsInDec I started off the month of December well. December 1 I did Body Groove Dance DVD at home after not dancing in far too long. My ankle injury made me feel discouraged for so long that I couldn't run and I had given up on gentle dancing at home even though that fit within no high impact workouts.

December 2 I did a 5k race with my dad at 6 Flags Magic Mountain. That's when I saw Coach Nicole's #31WorkoutsInDec on Facebook. I thought "this is perfect, I can restart my streak I had star... Sat, 8 Dec 2012 11:33:45 EST 15k Universal Run Last weekend I ran a 15k....3 loops around Universal Studios. Each loop was up some very steep call it hilly seems like an understatement. Despite the challenging hills, I kept a steady pace, jogged for most of it, only taking a few walk breaks, and finished in 2:00:47. (That is with a porta potty break and some brief photo stops) I didn't use my running app like I usually do when I run to track my distance and pace. I forgot to start it when the race started and by the time I real... I wanted to post an update to let everyone know I am back to running!!!!!

I did walk/jog intervals at my 10k race last Sunday.

My physical therapist told me to pay attention to my form, so that I wouldn't re-injure. I was sensitive to how my body felt, paying close attention to my ankle. No pain during or after the race. That was pretty amazing. My calf muscles got tight in the last mile and especially in the last half mile, but I kept going. It was a great feeling cross... Sun, 28 Oct 2012 13:52:51 EST The Hardest Race to Finish No, this was not the marathon I did in March. Not the half Marathon I did last December. It wasn't my first 5k or my second or even my third.

A few weeks ago, I walked a 5k race with my students. Why was it so hard to finish? Was the distance too long? No. Was it raining, hailing, 100+ degrees or any other extreme weather? Sat, 6 Oct 2012 14:27:08 EST Running Bio I had to write a bio for our running newsletter for students and parents. This is what I wrote:

I am an English teacher who had never run for enjoyment in middle or high school. In March 2011, I started training for a 5k and signed up for a charity race. It was an amazing experience—energy, excitement; it made me want to train for more races. Thu, 13 Sep 2012 21:24:39 EST Fall Goals I need to set some goals for fall since I have not yet been cleared for running. Despite being nervous about explaining moves to a group of students, I felt great. It felt so natural. Sure, I got tongue-tied and had to say "Cross your right, er...your left leg..." but they were fine. I felt like I had knowledge and a real desire to teach these kids to stretch.

I was recognized by one of the leaders who liked what I was doing. Apparently, savvy parents have to request the teacher they want for their child and I thought I would get a sweet, nurturing, patient person for my daughter's teacher.

I was wrong.

My daughter got yelled at the first day for taking too long in the restroom.

She is five.... Embarking on maintenance can be a challenge in itself. Losing weight is hard. Maintaining is hard too. You have to find the right balance.
