I know I need to lose 15 lbs. <BR> <BR> We have been working on my cholesterol and blood pressure numbers the past year. <BR> <BR> At my last check three months ago, blood pressure and cholesterol were way down, but, liver number was up a tad. I asked if I could try cutting my cholesterol med (Lipitor) in half (to 10 mg) to see if liver numbers would drop and cholesterol numbers w... Spent 3 days in Seattle. We had great weather. Went to the fish market, Bainbridge Island and up to Kerry to look out over Seattle. We walked over 60,000 steps! It was close to 80 degrees, no rain! I have been pretty busy between my CASA work, sub-teaching, birthday celebration, and sick friends. I am in the middle of writing a court report, due Thursday, for CASA. I am still collecting updated info for the judge. It's been hard to get ahold of the social worker and one foster mother. I am also designing a new play room for the CASA office. The board approved $22,000. which includes major renovations to a bathroom. Our office is in a historical building; the bathroom is ancient! Hubby... Tue, 23 May 2017 08:28:55 EST Staying Strong For Loved Ones... Three months ago, my cousin, 56, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Last week, a close friend, 65, diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer. Two days ago, my best friend, 54, was diagnosed with stage 4 non smoker's lung cancer. Not only is it in her lung, but also in her bones and lymph nodes. All three are receiving treatment. My cousin started at MD Anderson. They offered no hope and gave her 3 months to live. She loved it but couldn't get over the price. <BR> <BR> She broke her hip 10 years ago while helping at her senior center. She never was able to walk well again. We finally convinced her to use a cane last year. She really needed a walker, but, wouldn't use it. I am going to organize it again for next year. Everyone enjoyed it and learned a lot about eating disorders. I had a hard time on what would have been my son's 28th birthday. Sun, 11 Sep 2016 08:57:24 EST Lots of Good News Yesterday... I went to the Doctor for a 2 month check of blood lab work. My overall cholesterol score went from 242 to 203 thanks to Red Yeast Rice (1200 mg/twice per day) and maybe my almost daily oatmeal. My blood pressure went from 145/95 to 111/78 thanks to Hydrochlorothiazide (diuretic for high blood pressure) and strictly controlling salt intake by not buying any foods with more than 5% sodium and requesting "no added salt" at restaurants. It's being held at a cabin on Lake Superior. We have never been out there. A therapist is running it and she has a couple speakers coming too. Wed, 3 Aug 2016 22:29:11 EST Job Interview and Eating Disorder Stuff and a Trip... I interviewed for a position at Child Protective Services. It was a 2 hour interview. First, I watched a video of a "typical" work day as a case worker. I was then interviewed by 3 people. I think I did very well answering all of their questions. They nodded "yes" a lot, and agreed. <BR> <BR> I won't know for another month if I will be offered the job. And, I am happy about that. I really have to think about it. It's been 1 year, 8 months since I lost my 26 yr old son. I just got up enough courage to add the pictures from his old phone into my computer. And, yup, there it was - a shirtless selfie and then shot of his scale -- 96.6 lbs!! Dated March 2013. I figured out this was right about when he checked himself out of the hospital the second time. I also saw copied posted low cal smoothies from a site called "calorie count", lots of other saved nutrition/calorie info on cheese steaks, burgers, etc.... Fri, 29 Jul 2016 12:25:48 EST Cooking Corn on the Cob the Easy Way... I learned of a new way to cook corn on the cob! I tried it tonight and it went very well. And, an added bonus - no silk on the corn! Here's how to do it... Place the unpeeled corn on the cob in the microwave. Cook on high for 4 minutes. Let cool for a few minutes. Yesterday, I was sworn-in by the judge as a CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocate for children. This is a volunteer position which requires about 15 hours per month. <BR> <BR> I completed 30+ hours of training over a six week period - some at meetings, some on-line, plus observing one day at family court. I have completed day 75 of my exercise streak. I have it labeled as "10,000 steps per day", but it means so much more to me. I would go to work or the store with no make-up on, un-matched, hair half done. That might not seem like much to some of you, but, for me, it really was. I starting walking five miles per day, everyday, on Dec 25th. As I progressed, I mixed running with walking. Now, I run my 5 miles one day, walk 5 the next day. It feels really good to run again. I am not real fast right now, just taking my time, taking note of how my body feels as I go. I will start adding distance to my runs after I increase my speed.
