Staying Mentally Strong worked very well for me this winter..

My training for the Broadstreet Run and Delaware Half Marathon is going very well. The Broadstreet (10 miler) Run is in 4 weeks and the Delaware HM is in 5 weeks. Yesterday I ran a very comfortable 8 miles. I didn't hit any walls, and had no aches or pains. It was a very hilly run in a development near my house. I actually ran into someon... Sun, 6 Apr 2014 19:38:40 EST Running, Yoga and A New Cook In My House...

Got a lot done around my house on Saturday after my company left. Lots of cleaning and organizing. I hopped on the treadmill in the afternoon, my hamstrings were really tight. I walked for 5 minutes and then hopped off and popped in my Yoga for Runners DVD. It stretched everything out and felt great!

Sunday was errand day - lots of birthdays coming up and had to get to the market. My husband and I ... Mon, 24 Mar 2014 21:29:06 EST What I Have Been Up To and My Mental Toughness... I have been quite busy the past three weeks! Got back from checking on my Aunt in Texas, caught up at work, and went right back out on vacation in Key West. It was an 8 day family trip - hubby and two boys. Points of it were a blast - deep sea fishing, running, biking, a lot of walking, spectacular sunsets and touring other Keys - other points were quite taxing... Every night I felt like I was making sure everyone got back to the condo ok - Key West is loaded with bars! And it was Spring ... Thu, 20 Mar 2014 12:07:03 EST T25, My Hubby and My Sons... My husband bought T25 right after Christmas and finally brought it out of the box a couple of weeks ago. He worked out to it once, and didn't invite me to check it out with him. I have heard a lot about it and really wanted to try it. Today I finally did!

I have to say, it was different than I thought it would be. It is a 25 minute video and I moved intensely the whole time, but I didn't sweat the way I thought I would. I did "feel the burn". From what I gather, T25 is a sca... Mon, 24 Feb 2014 20:11:49 EST Catch up... It was a very busy week! All last weekend and the first part were all about wheeling and dealing for a new car (well, used but new to us). We finally found one in our price range in Camden, NJ. We also sold our Saab to a young couple.

Somewhere in there I decided I needed a schedule for my treadmill training. Sun, 16 Feb 2014 20:05:09 EST Yippee, Snow Day!!...

I had to close the school for the day...we ended up getting over 1 foot of snow. It is extremely rare when I close, so I felt like a fish out of water! We were in the "wild card" section according to the news team. We didn't know if it was going to rain or snow.

It was a real heavy snow. I was worried about the weight of the snow on my house's upper deck. It looked like a good work out, so I went ... Thu, 13 Feb 2014 18:09:37 EST Need Enlightment... I called my Aunt on the way to work to see if she ate and took her meds. I have called every morning since I got home. It's the only thing I can think of to help. I hate the fact that no one is there for her and my uncle. My aunt said this lady, Pam, who I met, is telling them not to move, she will move and take care of them. Pam's boyfriend has a drug problem and I think she is trying to take advantage of my aunt and uncle who are in their 80's. I am ready to go back down and punch her... Tue, 11 Feb 2014 21:43:53 EST I Have Returned... I got back from Texas last night. It was mentally tough! The Doctor said my Aunt needs to go in assistant living. I noticed my uncle is losing his memory and can't see well at all. That is why my Aunt doesn't want him to drive. Saturday night was very scary. She forgot to take her blood pressure and Parkinson's medication. She had a bad dizzy, shakey scare. She looks so fragile, said this was our last time together. She finally agreed to go to her daughter's. Today she changed her mi... Mon, 10 Feb 2014 21:46:00 EST Touching Base... I haven't forgot you guys!

I had to fly to Dallas for four days to check on my Aunt who has Parkinson's. It has affected her swallowing and she stopped going to therapy for it (doesn't want to ride in the car with my uncle). We got her in to the Doctor yesterday and she is down to 97 pounds. Of course, she got a huge lecture from me! They won't move near a relative (everyone is offering and begging). They are in their 80s and change is hard.

I leave tomorrow so to... Sat, 8 Feb 2014 10:13:15 EST My son one year later - (Warning: involves anorexia - very descriptive and blunt)... One year ago today, my nightmare began. A nightmare that would plummet me to a dark, dark place I had never been -- and never want to go to again. I found out my 24 year old son was dying - from anorexia.

It is certainly a year I will never, ever forget. It was a year of begging go to an anorexic hospital, arriving at one in San Diego, walking the floor of an anorexic hospital and seeing the most malnourished, skinniest but still alive possible people ever, and realizing my son ... Mon, 3 Feb 2014 19:41:22 EST Veggie Cheese... A couple of Sparkers asked about veggie cheese. I have used this brand for as long as I can remember.

It comes in all different flavors. I especially like pepperjack and provolone and their parmesan cheese.

You can find it in the vegetable section of most grocery stores. Sat, 1 Feb 2014 15:36:00 EST Veggies, Running, and Sunshine In Sight... I am still on a quest to find recipes for my "Ninja". It is a beefed up blender. Yesterday morning I threw a carrot, apple, tomato, kale and flax seed in. It was too thick and too sour. I had a hard time with the veggie idea first thing in the morning - I love my oatmeal & fruit!

Last night I soaked garbanzo beans in water. Tonight I made Roasted Red ... Today's topic on was Cause and Effect.

We first must distinguish between the two. Siebold uses "laziness" as an example. Some people blame laziness for their obesity. Siebold explains how this is an effect of not believing that one can succeed. If one believes they can succeed, they will eat better and exercise which in turn will banish laziness.

Belief is the cause, behavior is the effect.

I must attack the cause of the problem.

<... Sun, 12 Jan 2014 22:44:18 EST Courage and Mental Toughness...

Courage was mentioned during today's Fatloser session. Sat, 11 Jan 2014 12:13:37 EST Why Am I Fat? Good Question! Why Am I Fat? was one of the homework questions from

At first I wrote because I don't eat correct portion sizes, I eat crappy food, stress, I gave up, I hate diets, I took a break from running and I want to eat everything all my skinny friends can eat!

But, as I ran on the treadmill I really started to think about it.

I have NEVER felt "skinny".

Why??

I cannot say I was heavy growing up. Part of it had to do with cravings.
What are my cravings? That stumped me. I don't really have a sweet tooth, I have never been a baker and only buy pies, cookies or cakes if company is coming over. I have never been one for ice cream - every once in a blue moon I may buy a junior cup frozen yogurt. I keep caramels and chocolates on the counter for my kids and guests ... I was sort of surprised because my husband and I had to drive down to my older son's house at 1:30 AM - he found his finished basement flooded out. Turns out he never turned the outside spicket line off for the winter and the pipe burst. He has water remediation people there tearing carpet and walls out today. What started out as allergies has blown into a really bad head cold/maybe flu! I thought the acupuncturist had cleared it all out, but it came back with a vengeance! The fact that my husband was and still is really sick didn't help either. He wouldn't stay home from work - hung in my office - ugh.

Yesterday morning I was going to hop on my treadmill but he was sleeping. My husband complains that it is too loud. As many of you know, my 25 year old son has been battling anorexia for 11 months. It has been total hell; an ever-ending roller coaster ride.

Three weeks ago, my son was in the hospital fighting for his life. Fri, 6 Dec 2013 21:43:00 EST No Matter how you feel, Get up, dress up, show up, and Never give up! This quote, one of my favorites got me out of bed today. "No Matter how you feel, Get up, dress up, show up, and Never give up!"

It got me to take a shower, put on nice clothes, do my hair and make-up, and make my breakfast.

So then I took the Bostons for a nice long walk around the marina and thought "I can do this today". Wed, 4 Dec 2013 17:12:56 EST Blew A Fuse & Then Things Started Looking Up... My phone rang and woke me at 6:29 am this morning. My ring tone is the Brady Bunch theme song, so I did wake with a jolt! My opening Director told me the fire alarm went off and I could hear it in the background. She didn't see a fire or smoke. My husband said it was probably set off by all the dust from the torn out drywall and ceiling tiles - but that was a guess so in 25 mins I was dressed and at the school ready to meet the firemen.
