But, with summer winding down, it seems like it is time to get refocused. It has been a great summer, and although I have gained a few pounds, it has been remarkably few. None would be better, of course, but I have not been concentrating on it.

I would like to try to drop about 10 pounds over the next while. That would get me back to a more comfortable point.

I had a do... Tue, 31 Jul 2012 07:55:18 EST Thursday - So-so on the food plan http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4876648 For the most part, I stuck to the food plan today. The problem came when I attended a meeting this evening. For refreshments, there were four dishes that were examples of the kinds of things that are easy to make when taking food into a family in need. Of course, I tried some of each one. The quantity wasn't bad, but some of the items were clearly not on the food plan. They were good, though! Fri, 11 May 2012 08:10:45 EST Wednesday - Busy http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4875068 I had a busy Wednesday. Besides things at home, I did a big shopping trip to Costco. Planning, shopping and putting away after a Costco trip is a several hour process!

Food plan was pretty good today, mostly right on. A bit of chocolate, but not enough to be a problem, mid-day and no evening snack. Thu, 10 May 2012 07:39:40 EST Tuesday - A Little Better http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4873499 Things are starting to settle back in a little better today. My meal plan came closer to being realized - still a little extra snack mid-day, but not too bad. I still haven't gotten out to the grocery store to restock some of my favorite "good" snacks - hopefully that will happen tomorrow. Wed, 9 May 2012 07:57:45 EST Monday - A little trouble trying to get back on routine http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4871780 Had a little trouble trying to get back on track after the vacation. Started the day fine, but got off track as the afternoon went on. It was one of those chaos days - trying to get laundry caught up, plus tons of other things to respond to, etc. As a result, I found myself snacking a little too much in between. Meals were fine, but the snacking was the problem. Will have to be more focused tomorrow. Tue, 8 May 2012 07:55:37 EST Sunday - trying to get back to normal http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4869984 Sunday is always a day unlike the rest of the week anyway - and trying to readjust after vacation made it even more so. The family came over for dinner and I fixed a chicken/potato/veggie dinner in the crockpot. It was very good. I had fresh-baked rolls and ate more of those than I should have. Dessert was an apple pie and ice cream. I ate a very small piece.

So, I can see that I need to tighten up my eating after the vacation. Even so, it was a great day. It always helps ... Mon, 7 May 2012 08:07:54 EST Saturday - Back home http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4868538 Got back home today after a 10 day vacation, which included a week in Lake Tahoe with friends. I had made the decision that I would be careful about what I ate, but would not be overly concerned about trying to stick to any particular eating plan. I was more concerned that we all have a good time, and that always involves food. So, when I weighed in, I was shocked to see that I had not gained anything. It really goes to prove that the biggest success comes from portion control and not ove... Sun, 6 May 2012 07:49:03 EST Wednesday - Lunch with the kiddies http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4852885 Went out to Mimi's for lunch with my daughter and 2 grandkids today. It was a lot of fun and the children were really good. I chose not to eat off the lean menu, but did have a chicken sandwich. Rest of day was good.

I am leaving early tomorrow for a 10 day vacation, so will probably be MIA for that period of time. Goals: think before I eat. Just don't overdo and hope to maintain for the duration. We will be with three other couples who have been our friends for over 45 yea... Thu, 26 Apr 2012 08:23:37 EST Tuesday - dinner out http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4851106 My daughter invited us over for dinner this evening. Her father-in-law is visiting from out of town and it was our only chance to get to visit with him. That meant that my food choices were limited to what she served. She served lasagna, garlic bread and a salad. She did add a lot of extra vegetables to the lasagna, which made it a little healthier than usual. It did still have the cheese. I ate a big serving of salad. Over all it was somewhere in the middle of the food plan choices. ... Wed, 25 Apr 2012 07:37:30 EST Monday - social http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4849387 Got together with a group of friends for the evening. Had a great time. When we do these get-togethers, we always just do a potluck refreshment table. Wouldn't you know that everyone brought desserts this time? Thank goodness for one bowl of fruit! I tasted the desserts and ate lots of fruit. At least "not good" wasn't a "disaster!"

Rest of day was good. Tue, 24 Apr 2012 07:52:35 EST Sunday - always good http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4847611 Another good Sunday - not only because it is an enjoyable day with church and family - but because the food plan worked pretty well, too. For our dinner, I fixed a recipe I got off the Spark recipe list. It was a pork loin cooked in the crockpot, seasoned with red pepper and Tony's spices and garlic. Chicken broth was the liquid. About an hour before eating, I added two cans of beans (one black bean, one white navy beans), a can of tomatoes, and plenty of spinach (any green could be used,... Mon, 23 Apr 2012 07:46:45 EST Saturday - just another day of cleaning! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4846266 Tried to get the house really cleaned up well today, so spent a few extra calories doing that. Rest of day was as usual. Food plan was pretty good - just a little candy snitch in the afternoon. Sun, 22 Apr 2012 08:59:24 EST Saturday - just another day of cleaning! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4846265 Tried to get the house really cleaned up well today, so spent a few extra calories doing that. Rest of day was as usual. Food plan was pretty good - just a little candy snitch in the afternoon. Sun, 22 Apr 2012 08:59:23 EST Friday - an openhouse http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4845013 I hosted an openhouse for some women from church today. Most of the refreshments I had gotten were of the fruit and vegetable variety. There were a few cookies and some chips with dip, as well. One of the women brought a couple of things on her own - homemade lemon bars and chocolate chip meringue cookies. They were both delicious! I know, because I ate some!

Other than that, the day was pretty good as far as the food plan goes. Sat, 21 Apr 2012 07:50:31 EST Thursday - Good day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4843657 I stayed pretty much on food plan today. Best news is that the weight is down another couple of pounds, which means I am back at my lowest weight I had reached before it crept up a little while I was struggling. I think that taking a few minutes every day to account for how I am eating helps to keep me a little more focused, so even when I slip it is just that - a slip, not a huge fall.

Bottom line - I am pleased, but still need to actually step it up. I leave for vacation for ... Fri, 20 Apr 2012 07:52:53 EST Wednesday - errands http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4842139 I was on the run a good bit of the day today - some shopping for the upcoming trip, etc. I also took a friend to pick up her car from the mechanic. That was a bit of a drive, so it all took a while.

Food plan was pretty close to target - I did eat a few M&M's that happened to be sitting around. Otherwise, it was OK. Looks like a couple of pounds less than the day before, although that is probably mostly water, as I felt a little bloated yesterday.

Thu, 19 Apr 2012 08:33:30 EST Tuesday - Book Group http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4840485 We had book group at my house this evening - just 4 of us, but we had a great time. Refreshments are always potluck, so you never know what will show up. I had put out some baked chips and a dip, a baked appetizer made with spinach and artichoke hearts, some sugar-free pink lemonade, and water. Others brought crackers and humus, cinnamon almonds, brownies - the usual. I was pleased that I did not pick up the sweet things at all. It wasn't really even a conscious choice. That's another g... Wed, 18 Apr 2012 07:16:43 EST Monday - at home http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4838822 Mondays are usually fairly busy, what with getting things back in order after the weekend. Plus, I have a number of personal things that I do on Mondays. It is usually also a day of having to be careful, because stay-at-home days can get me off target. It is more of a "not thinking" kind of thing that an obvious choice. It was a bit that way today.

While hustling around, I grabbed a snack that I didn't really need - that kind of thing. Much of what I ate was fine, but the re... Tue, 17 Apr 2012 07:31:17 EST Sunday - A fun day! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4837116 Had a great Sunday at church and then with family at home. The grandchildren are always entertaining and the neighbors came over and sat in the backyard with us while all the children played. It was beautiful weather, which made sitting outside a pleasure.

Foodwise....... well, I overate....... For the most part, I am overeating good stuff, which is still overeating. The big problem today was that we sat at the table after we had finished eating and talked for a long time. All ... Mon, 16 Apr 2012 07:45:43 EST Saturday - babysitting http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4835651 Pretty much a normal Saturday, except we babysat the grandkids. That meant dinner at their house with them. Dinner was a take-out pizza. Oh, well, so much for sticking to plan! The rest of the day was good, and I didn't do any other evening snacks, so all together I wasn't too far off.

Sun, 15 Apr 2012 07:31:47 EST Friday - "Pretty" normal day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4834364 Today was a "pretty' good day. I had a stay-at-home day, but I had so many projects I was working on that I never had time to be bored. I am "pretty" good at keeping busy. As to the food plan, meals were good. The afternoon snack time, which is my pitfall, was also "pretty" good. I stayed "pretty" close to calories for the day.

All in all, that makes it a "pretty" normal day.

What that really means is that while I was more on less where I needed to be, it isn't rea... Sat, 14 Apr 2012 07:08:31 EST Thursday - meetings and grandkids! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4833014 Another busy day - had a meeting in the morning and met my daughter and grandkids at the playground at the mall in the afternoon. Both very good things.

As to the food plan, breakfast, lunch, and dinner were all right on. The in between snacks, which are part of the plan, of course, went a little over. The afternoon is my tough spot, which I already knew. I try to prepare for it and sometimes I am just more successful than other times. Today was only so-so. The problem was th... Fri, 13 Apr 2012 08:07:55 EST Wednesday - just lost track http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4831464 I usually write down my food as I eat, so I will be able to monitor where I am. For some reason, I totally forgot to do it today. So, at the end of the day, I am trying to remember what I ate. I remember breakfast and dinner - both good. I remember no evening snacks - also good. But, I can't for the life of me remember what I ate in the middle of the day! I am assuming my mind has just shut it out, because it wasn't on plan!

It is a good reminder for me to stay on top of re... Thu, 12 Apr 2012 08:12:24 EST Tuesday - another social http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4829836 There was another social at my house this evening, and I ate too much again. The rest of the day was good, and I didn't eat dinner, because of the social. I did only eat a small plate of the refreshments, but that included a piece of lemon cream cake! Ah, it sure was good. The real killer was the fried cheese balls. Well, they weren't actually fried, just heated in the oven, but they were certainly very cheesy and I ate several. Overall, the counts weren't too bad, but not where they sh... Wed, 11 Apr 2012 07:43:18 EST Monday - not a bad day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4828229 I did quite well on the food plan today - I did eat leftovers from Easter for lunch, but kept the quantity more in line. I was pretty busy all day and that always helps to prevent unwanted snacking! Tue, 10 Apr 2012 07:29:05 EST Sunday - Easter http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4826546 This was a wonderful Easter Sunday. As to the food plan, I didn't follow it so well. Most of what I ate was within the plan, but I ate too much! Of course, that kind of wipes out the advantages of eating carefully. Even so, I have held even on weight gain/loss.

With a vacation coming up in a couple of weeks, I need to work a little harder to be prepared!

Hope everyone had a Happy Easter! Mon, 9 Apr 2012 08:17:39 EST Saturday - so-so http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4825338 Meals went well today. The problem was sneaky snacks. I fixed some small Easter baskets for the grandkids for tomorrow and snitched a bit of candy. Could have been worse, but it was bad enough! Sun, 8 Apr 2012 07:37:29 EST Friday - out a lot http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4824198 This was a busy day - I had to take lunch to a friend who is having a difficult pregnancy. She just wanted Subway sandwich, so I had one with her. Lots of fresh veggies, on turkey and ham, whole wheat bread.

My husband called mid-afternoon and said he hadn't had lunch and we could run out and get something when he got home. He chose to go to our favorite Mexican restaurant. Since I had had such a big lunch, I just ordered off the appetizer menu, but it still meant a lot of chee... Sat, 7 Apr 2012 07:17:52 EST Thursday - a little evaluation http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4822876 I did a little evaluation of the food plan and eating pattern today. I don't do so well tracking my food online, but I do keep a record on paper. So, I discovered that I hover at the top level of calories eaten each day, sometimes going over. The thing that surprised me is that even when when I am over on calories, I am under on both carbs and protein. It looks like the fats are the problem, since they also go over.

Years ago, I did the Atkins diet for a while and lost quite ... Fri, 6 Apr 2012 07:33:59 EST Wednesday - babysitting the grandkids http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4821393 I got to take care of the grandkids for a few hours today while their mother went to a doctor's appointment. That is nothing but fun!

As to the food plan, well, since lunch of choice for them was macaroni and cheese, I was detoured off of my plan for lunch. Mac & cheese is also one of my favorites. Other than that, we stayed pretty close to plan the rest of the day.

Perhaps chasing after the 16 month old caused me to burn a few extra calories???? Wishful thinking... Thu, 5 Apr 2012 07:25:09 EST Tuesday - at home, without the car http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4819779 Had the car in the shop today, so I was at home alone all day. As far as the food plan goes, most went well. I did snitch a snickerdoodle left over from Sunday. Otherwise, I was pretty busy at some computer work and did quite well. Wed, 4 Apr 2012 07:39:42 EST Monday - Jury Duty http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4818046 I had jury duty today, so it was definitely not a normal day. Food-wise, the only problem was lunch at the courthouse cafeteria. They had a salad bar, but it didn't look that good - and I am not a big salad fan anyway. I always tend to have stomach issues when I eat much fresh salad. I chose to do the grill (yes, the worst choice!), but they had a beef-bacon wrap that was really good. Actually, other than the bacon, everything on the sandwich was pretty much in line with the food plan. ... Tue, 3 Apr 2012 07:42:03 EST Sunday - family time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4817136 Had a great Sunday - the kids came over for dinner. We had a whole chicken cooked in the micrwave in the stoneware cooker from Pantry Chef. It took only 30 minutes and was so good - nothing added, but so juicy. All I did was add some seasoning to the dry chicken. We added some steamed rice, some peas, fresh strawberries, and corn muffins. Very good - and except for the muffins - was all on plan.

The rest of the day was good, too. Except...... My daughter made some snickerdoo... Mon, 2 Apr 2012 16:15:45 EST Saturday - fun with grandkids http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4814572 Morning was a normal Saturday and the food plan started out fine. In the afternoon, my daughter and grandkids came by - we went out to do a little shopping - and picked up an ice cream on the way home. Oops!

Because I had not had lunch (late breakfast), I had a bowl of soup in mid-afternoon, not too bad a choice - made from leftovers with lots of veggies. That was really all I ate, other than a handful of peanut M&M's. Oops, again! Overall, it wasn't good, but could have bee... Sun, 1 Apr 2012 08:14:21 EST Friday - a busy day with its own problems http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4813240 What a day! We helped a friend move - a divorce situation and not a good one. So, they bought pizza for lunch and I ate two pieces! Well, I was really hungry and there wasn't anything else. I did drink water, though. I know, if I had thought ahead, I would have packed my own lunch, but it just never occurred to me.

In the evening, my husband suggested we go out for dinner. That is always nice, but not always the best for the food plan. We went to our favorite Mexican place, ... Sat, 31 Mar 2012 08:32:43 EST Thursday - Pantry Chef Party http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4811761 I was invited to a Pantry Chef party this evening and she cooked a full meal - very delicious! Fortunately, other than the cornbread, everything was right on plan - chicken cooked in their stone roaster in the microwave, nothing added except a rub, and a salad, with only a small amount of oil in the dressing, using water in place of the rest of the oil needed. The cornbread was really good, too, of course - Jiffy mix with added grated cheese and cream corn.

The rest of the day,... Fri, 30 Mar 2012 07:09:33 EST Wednesday - Eating out for lunch http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4810168 My daughter and her children and I had planned to go out for lunch today, so I was prepared to deal with eating outside the usual food plan. I ordered off the regular menu - not "light" - but ate only a part of it. Even then, I felt bloated. I haven't been eating "heavy" foods lately and I really felt it. That is probably the best thing that I needed - to know that the way I have been eating actually makes me feel better!

The rest of the day's meal plan was pretty much on targe... Thu, 29 Mar 2012 07:27:13 EST Tuesday - Stuck in a rut http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4808491 This was an ordinary day - meaning it was OK for the food plan, but not great. I had another social at my house and had to handle the refreshments again. I mostly ate the veggies and dip and fresh strawberries, also with a cream cheese dip (no-no, I know!) My biggest flub was the coconut macaroon, but at least I only ate one.

I seem to be stuck in this pattern at the moment - pretty much on food plan, but letting something sneak in every day. It has been busy and I have not t... Wed, 28 Mar 2012 07:28:04 EST Monday - a bit of a chaos day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4806820 Today started out with normal routine - and then it all fell apart! My daughter and grandchildren came over for a while - we went out to do some shopping - etc.

It is usually easiest to stick to the food plan when the routine is fairly set. Obviously, that was messed up today. My biggest no-no was eating a third of a giant frozen yogurt from Costco (divided between my daughter, my granddaughter, and me.) Of course, it was frozen yogurt rather than ice cream, so that was better.... Tue, 27 Mar 2012 08:18:05 EST Sunday - status quo http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4805086 A normal Sunday - most of the food plan was fine. The piece of pie and ice cream threw it off. A new week - a time to start again! Held steady on the weight - so that is a victory of sorts, since it was a bad week last week. Mon, 26 Mar 2012 07:56:44 EST Saturday - Granddaughter Day 2 http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4803644 Had a great day with the granddaughter who had spent the night. Of course, the food plan was pretty much forgotten. As it turned out, I also ate small enough amounts that I stayed within the calorie counts. She wanted French toast for breakfast and that was the biggest no-no that I ate all day. Well, I mean, one piece would have been fine - it was the others that were the no-no. I did use light syrup, so at least I didn't add a lot of sugar.

The rest of the day was so busy tha... Sun, 25 Mar 2012 08:29:51 EST Friday - Granddaughter spending the night! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4802284 Well, the food plan pretty much went out the window once my 3 year old granddaughter got here. Up to that point (breakfast and mid-morning) had been on target. However, her choice for lunch was mac and cheese and I ate it with her. So much for the food plan!

Truth be told, I didn't actually stray all that far and there were no chocolate attacks today, so if I had taken the time to track what I ate, it probably wasn't all that bad.

But, I sure have had fun with you kno... Sat, 24 Mar 2012 07:45:58 EST Thursday - Kind of a repeat http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4800970 Today was a busy day - had a meeting, plus plenty of errands and things around the house. Food plan was pretty much the same. I did have a little chocolate in the middle of the day, so it wasn't a totally successful day. Even so, it was pretty close.

Other things are overwhelming me at the moment. Even though I know it is time to step things up, I haven't yet quite gotten myself to respond. I keep reminding myself that I still had the 4 pounds weight loss last week (Monday i... Fri, 23 Mar 2012 08:35:04 EST Wednesday - a tough day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4799294 Had some personal problems today that required a lot of my emotional attention. So, the food plan was kind of pushed into the background. As it turned out, most of the day was fine. If it hadn't been for the handful of chocolate that I ate, I would have actually been on plan.

Obviously, the chocolate destroyed the day's success, but it did let me know that the eating habits are becoming just that - habits. It also reminded me that it is important to strengthen those habits to... Thu, 22 Mar 2012 08:16:02 EST Tuesday - a little late, but not forgotten http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4798541 The technology problems this morning kept me from posting, and I have been busy all day since then.

Tuesday was a so-so day. I didn't get too far off plan, but I am still not really making the kind of effort that I need to make. I know the plan needs to get tighter, but I don't seem to be motivated enough to make the effort. I will keep plugging along for now, keeping in mind what I really want to accomplish.

I am not discouraged, just not as motivated as I need to be... Wed, 21 Mar 2012 18:29:05 EST Monday - a party and the refreshments - oops! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4796351 Much of today went well, as far as the food plan goes. We had a gathering at our home this evening and the refreshments were pot luck. That means, you never know what will show up. This time there was a pretty good mixture, but no fruit or veggies, as usual. That means I ate a few things that should not have been included. I had not had any other dinner, so that helped offset a little, but I still went over. The real killer was the handful of peanut M&M's that slipped by - oops! At lea... Tue, 20 Mar 2012 08:22:26 EST Sunday - another good day http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4794496 Sundays are relatively easy to stay on plan. With church in the middle of the day, I don't have lunch, so I can have a little more at dinner and still be OK. With my daughter's family coming over every Sunday, I always cook a big meal. Today it was grilled steak, baked potatoes, grilled veggies and fresh pineapple. I also baked a loaf of frozen bread, served with honey. The best part of the meal was the veggies - I can't describe how good they tasted!

Besides the dinner, I h... Mon, 19 Mar 2012 08:14:19 EST Another Saturday done! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4793005 Saturdays can be pretty busy and this one certainly was. Foodwise, I started trying to track what I eat more carefully.
