My daughter and I decided way back in June that it would be great to do a "big" race together & both signed up for the Raleigh marathon & half marathon. She is a grad student at NC state & my one son and his wife also live down there! So not only would this be my first half and her first full we (husband & I ) would be flying down for a great family week-end! I was pretty excited about the race with 5 other family members and one good friend running as well. It's a 5K race down the center of town where my family is from! 900 runners/walkers this year, truly an amazing sight! The weather got warm quick and was running into the sun the whole way out. it was an out and back course so of course with me in the back of the pack I was able to see the first runners coming... Mon, 10 Oct 2011 14:04:36 EST Interesting study!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4397634 The study, published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, found that adults with a healthy BMI eat 33 percent more dietary fiber and 43 percent more complex carbohydrates each day than people who are obese. So much for low-carb diets! Fiber fills you up and can keep you from feeling hungry longer. It also has zero calories. By adding an extra 14 grams of fiber to your daily diet, you can reduce your calorie intake by 10 percent. That equals more than four pounds of weight loss... My ankle was bothering me after all that and I decided to ease off the running this past couple weeks and walk when I could! It's funny I haven't run since the 6th but it seems like it's been so much longer!! I think I made it so much a part of my days it seemed kind of strange not doing it!! I've only been at this running since March with the C25K program!! Now I know with getting 2 miles in today I am back ,not quite 100% but pre... Sat, 18 Oct 2008 14:51:40 EST Life is Good http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1468108 I decided to go out this morning for a long walk since this was my non-running day! What a gorgeous morning! Only 48 degrees but the sun was warming things up nicely! I had my ipod all set and turned in on as I usually listen to some tunes! I got about 20 minutes into it and the ipod died~forgot to charge it up! But as I stuck it in my pocket I realized I could listen ,really listen to the noises around me this morning! I live in a very rural area with rolling hills surrounding our farm! Fa... Fri, 19 Sep 2008 14:21:36 EST Was That My Name They Announced?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1347259 Well I ran my 2nd 5K on Saturday Morning! It was humid (85%) and questioned myself somewhat while I was warming up on the reasons I signed up for the race knowing full well that it would be hot!! We got our t-shirts and bag and headed for the car to drop off and to pin my number on! My daughter laughed when she looked at hers to pin on and her age listed as 14 instead 19, mine read 49 year old male! Oh well with a name like Rose Thomas I guess someone could mix it up as Thomas Rose! I was... Sun, 20 Jul 2008 19:17:52 EST The zone!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=1295440 Went out running this morning. Very typical morning where the first 5-6 minutes are usually a struggle! Somewhere after the first 1/2 mile things fell into place! It was hot and humid but I kept at it and soon my mind was wandering from one thing to the next. I can honestly say I was not thinking about each step I was running and was just running! What a feeling! I was always so inspired by others who have always wrote about how their minds wander as they run and always hoped I could get to t... Took off about 6:30 and started running at the usual place after about a 3-5 minute warm-up walk! The run felt good and I decided to push myself I made it up the hill on the trail past all the landmarks that I usually stop out!! Not sure why today but I just pushed and I did it! With that goal met I decided to try to run the whole way back! I've always made it about halfway and have to walk the rest of the hill to get ... Back when I joined Spark the end of February one of my goals was to run a 5K with my daughter, I thought then it would be the end of summer! Well that was before I discovered the C25K program! Zoom ahead to June 4th and I was at the starting line of my first official race. It wasn't exactly ideal conditions, it had just finished pouring rain and everything was damp and humid! I hadn't run much in the evenings either so I knew this would be different for me as well. My daughter... Thu, 5 Jun 2008 07:08:13 EST
