ROSE-GARDEN's SparkPeople Blog ROSE-GARDEN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community That time of the year It's the time of year when we just get sick over and over again. Yuck!

I'm not sure if we're still sick or if we caught something else and they just overlapped or what, but I'm ready to move on with life ASAP! We've got things to do!

I ordered my seeds for this summer and just got them in the mail. It's so fun this time of year to dream about the future "perfect" garden this time. Soon it will be time to start some early broccoli and cauliflower seeds too. Love seei... Thu, 16 Jan 2014 22:14:35 EST Tough Time Right Now I was feeling very optimistic about all this, then this fibro flair started. Wow is it a big one too.

My legs and feet feel like they are on fire and throbbing like they should be swollen, yet they aren't. Our sheltie ran into my legs earlier and I thought I was going to throw up it hurt so badly. My muscles all over are spasming, sore, stiff and sensitive. I can only shuffle and the more I move, the more it burns. Great day to be babysitting our two neighbor's children too.... Wed, 26 Jun 2013 18:23:29 EST New Goal - Day 1 I know I wasn't going to start another challenge so soon, but it dawned on me that I don't have to just take things away!

So my new challenge is to make sure I get at least 5 servings of fruits and veggies every day. I'm hoping this will make me pay attention and pick these things over other not as healthy choices. I plan on trying to eat a serving of fruit or vegetables first, then if I'm still hungry maybe eat other things. It's not a "rule" - just a way to fit them in with ou... Mon, 24 Jun 2013 18:39:48 EST No Sugar - Day 7 Goal!!! I made it through day 7 and have no plans to eat any sugar any time soon! Yeah!!!

Today was a little rougher because I'm really, really tired today. I think I over did things yesterday and now I'm paying for it. My legs are burning up to mid calf today too, but that's still better than before! I think being sooooo tired caused more cravings today, but I didn't give in!

Time to rest now. That's what I really need!

Sun, 23 Jun 2013 21:32:01 EST No Sugar -Day 6 Things are definitely better now!

We went to a berry patch and picked blueberries, then took our son to his first movie this afternoon. It was so much fun!

My energy seems to have evened out, and I'm still getting things done. I'm sleeping better most nights, and the terrible burning in my legs and arms has gone away. Yeah!

I'm going to continue "no sugar" as an ongoing goal - with special occasions allowing a special treat. Special occasions being things ... Sat, 22 Jun 2013 22:13:58 EST No Sugar - Day 5 I have to say I'm finally feeling better. I'm not obsessing about the sugary stuff, and it only jumps into my thoughts here and there now. And my energy seems to have evened out some. It's not as high as I'd like, but I'm not actually face down on the table. We also did some water exercising this morning, so we might be dragging from that.

Funny part is that my plantar facitis (spelling?) is worse! No fair!!! But I'm sure it will go away eventually and avoiding sugar can't be... Fri, 21 Jun 2013 18:48:21 EST No Sugar - Day 4 I can't tell you how many times I wanted to just give in and eat something sweet, but then I knew I would have to post in on my blog. That thought has helped me several times in the last four days to pull it together and walk on. It makes a huge difference to know I have people who understand rooting for me to succeed!

Today I've had a little more energy, but I'm still pretty tired. Good news is that I seem to be sleeping much better than before. High hopes for that taking care... Thu, 20 Jun 2013 17:57:37 EST No Sugar - Day 3 Still extremely tired, but the burning in my legs and arms has finally stopped. I didn't have a headache today either, so that's a plus.

Sorry, my brain seems to not be working tonight. I just keep staring off into space. Hope this exhausted part starts getting better instead of worse soon!

102 Wed, 19 Jun 2013 21:12:34 EST No Sugar - Day 2 Today was pretty busy and that was good and hard at the same time. It did create a nice distraction from my sugar cravings, but I had a running dialog in my head about things like: "That really good donut place is right around the corner!" "No I'm staying on track!" "You know they have really good cookies here." "No!" "I bet that donut place is still open." "Aaaaaaa!"

I kept trying to ignore the thoughts, but seriously I'm feeling pretty obsessive. I have the constant craving... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 21:26:29 EST No Sugar - Day 1 It's been a quiet day, so perfect for starting this no sugar challenge. My son is spending the day at his Nana and Papa's, so I know he's having fun!

The intense cravings set in around 2:00pm, and if there had been anything sweet around I would have inhaled it. Thank goodness I prepared the house for this.

I am still eating fruit because it's the processed sugars that I just can't seem to eat in moderation - at all. And I've been using those processed sugars to shov... Mon, 17 Jun 2013 18:23:16 EST Our Challenge Starts! We had a really fun Father's Day party today!

My family all came over and we got to eat out on the porch and talk while our son played around us. We also had everyone's favorite goodies- homemade cherry pie (cherries from our tree), cake, cookies, and pizza.

And now our challenge starts! My husband is giving up all pop and focusing on healthier choices, and I am giving up all sugar and focusing on healthier choices. My dh had already done really well on drinking tea i... Sun, 16 Jun 2013 21:36:34 EST Warm weather is here to stay! We've been out enjoying this sunny, warm weather!

There's lots to do in the gardens and it's finally warm enough to break out the little pool and slide for our son (3 years old). He loves water! He's also having fun watching things grow and get big enough for him to pick and eat fresh out of the garden. I swear he was born a vegetarian! He also tends to prefer his veggies and fruit raw. Don't get me wrong, he likes his junk too - but we still need to eat more like him.
<... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 17:30:58 EST Embarrassing This is hard to admit, but here I go.

I found out a few weeks ago that my poor husband has been sleeping several hours out of every night on the floor or on the sofa. You see, three years ago I gained about 40 pounds and developed a snoring issue due to apnea and reflux. It seems it's gotten quite bad and he hides out during the worst parts of the night. I've gone to the dr and done a sleep study a couple years ago because my dh said I was snoring. (Didn't know it was THAT ba... Mon, 22 Apr 2013 22:58:48 EST Plants coming up! All our hard work in the garden is starting to show! Little plants are emerging in the peas, potatoes, and onions. I always get so excited to see the little baby plants starting to come up. This is when the weeds aren't too bad and the garden looks neat and pretty. We're also dreaming of all that fresh produce we'll have this summer! It's so satisfying to make an entire meal out of what you pick in your own garden. Not to mention all the canned tomatoes and salsa we have in our basement... Tue, 9 Apr 2013 10:49:22 EST Spring is finally here! Yeah! The flowers are starting to bloom and today was a wonderful warm day to work outside in the garden. My parents came out and together we all planted carrots, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, beets and two more early tomatoes with the water walls around them. We also did a lot to clean up in the gardens. We had already planted potatoes, peas, romaine, kale, chard, and onions. Can't wait to see those first little sprouts coming up!

My son really enjoyed playing with all the... Fri, 5 Apr 2013 21:37:34 EST Clean Eating vs Intuitive Eating These are the two methods I keep bouncing back and forth between.

Intuitive eating:

Pros:
Is fun!
Feel free and more relaxed
Did help cut down on binging
Lost 20 lbs doing this only half way over several months
Probably good example for 3 year old son

Cons:
Not a quick fix
Don't know if it will help cholesterol, reflux, fibro - only time will tell
Hard to focus enough to fully embrace process because of busy life dema... Fri, 1 Mar 2013 12:06:08 EST Crashing Well, I didn't want to admit to this but I'm trying to be accountable.

I've been secretly binging pretty badly lately - all sugar and junk of course. I don't want my son to see (or my husband for that matter), so as soon as I'm alone I'm stuffing my face. I had bought some muffins for my son - at least that's what I told myself at the time. Now I don't want to remind anyone that we have any because then they'll know how many I've eaten.

I'd been doing so well, then ... Sat, 23 Feb 2013 17:48:56 EST Darn cold Well, I have another cold. It started Friday. I've been up since before 4am trying to sleep through all the goo. I won't go into details. It's funny though, I thought I was getting a lot better yesterday and now I think it's getting a lot worse. I don't know what went wrong between then and now, but I don't like it at all.

On the eating healthy front, I am not doing as well right now. Saltine crackers are my friend. However, I look forward to getting back on track soon. Rea... Mon, 11 Feb 2013 06:09:21 EST On Track! Still on track for eating healthier! Body still falling apart, but it would be a little quick if all this healthy food helped that fast. I can always wish though! 20

We had a beautiful dinner of salmon patties on a bed of fresh spinach, steamed broccoli, and quinoa made with mixed veggies and dried rosemary from our garden. Yum!

My son didn't touch the quinoa, but he did eat his broccoli, the stems off the spinach and about half his salmon. I'd say that'... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 21:23:58 EST Today is a new day! Okay, I know I've said this before but I really mean it this time!!! 104

Today is the day I start eating healthy carbs with a focus on plenty of protein, veggies and some fruit. Avoiding sugar, processed carbs, nightshade veggies. I will have a treat meal once a week that can be anything I want.

I was at my healthiest years ago when we ate this way. My fibro was so much better, I could breathe better, move better, sleep better, our cholesterol was better... Thu, 31 Jan 2013 11:16:23 EST Quiet Day Today! I'm having a fibro flair due to a major weather swing. 60 degrees yesterday and high of 30 something today. But today is going to be a nice and quiet day at home, so it's perfect for some me time - and hot pads! I started a nice fire in the fireplace and it's making the house nice and cozy. Ahhhhh, feel the tension start to melt.

I even started my day with a great smoothie - fresh spinach, greek yogurt, some apple, cherries, peach and 1/2 banana with milk and ground flax seed b... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 11:34:07 EST Sleep I've been trying to improve my sleep for awhile now. So far I've found using dim lighting, no TV, computers, keeping things quiet and peaceful for an hour before bed helps. Tylenol (or aleve) and 1/2 a muscle relaxer helps with my fibro pain so I can fall asleep too. I still wake up every night around 2 or 3 am and have trouble going back to sleep though! Very annoying.

I find it really ironic that I signed up with a sleep group challenge just a week ago and I've had so many th... Sun, 27 Jan 2013 21:57:57 EST Sick and Thinking This is the time of year that we just can't seem to get well. It's driving us crazy!

I am still trying to get a new healthy plan figured out. I think I'm trying to go "all or nothing" again. It dawned on me this morning when I was heating my water and I really wanted to add some honey to sooth my poor throat and cough. I kept thinking "no, that's sugar and I'm avoiding ALL sugar!". Then I opened Sparkpeople and saw my weight loss bar. You know, I've lost about 20 pounds! It ... Tue, 1 Jan 2013 13:44:56 EST Been a long time I know I haven't been on here for a long time, but I've been busy trying to keep up with life and at least add some good habits back in along the way. Now we've reached a point where we want to really focus and start eating healthy. Both my husband and I really want to feel better and we need to get our cholesterol down. I also want to get my fibro calmed down and I'm really working on it.

Well, I've been officially sugar and processed food free since last Thurs. Thoughts of al... Sun, 30 Dec 2012 22:06:47 EST I think I know why I'm so tired Well, last night I kept coughing and have a slight sore throat. Darn, but at least it's temporary. I have to get rid of it in time for my next surgery though! That is very important.

I've decided to try and eat super healthy this week and clean out my system. Obviously it would be best to continue longer than this week, but I'm just taking this a week at a time - as of this moment. I'm hoping to notice some difference in how I feel at the end of this week so I'll be motivated.... Mon, 13 Jun 2011 10:09:03 EST why am I so tired??? I constantly feel like I'm going to drop from exhaustion, and I just don't know what to do. It really set in a few days ago. I'm going to bed early, and feel better in the morning for a couple hours then I'm a droopy eyed zombie by late afternoon. Granted, I haven't been peppy for a loooong time now, but this is really bad. I'm barely managing to follow my son around and comprehend what's going on.

Is it fibro, the surgery, having a toddler, poor diet, being out of shape - all ... Sun, 12 Jun 2011 18:56:25 EST In a healthy mood! First, thanks so much to everyone who responded to my blog yesterday! Your responses boosted my spirits. 224

Today I feel ready to begin really trying to focus on healthier eating. I pulled out a broccoli and carrot soup recipe, as well as some frozen cod fillets, for dinner. My dh said he'd do all the chopping so we're set for a tasty and healthy meal tonight! The broccoli is fresh from our garden so that makes it extra exciting.

Dh and ds are at the g... Sun, 5 Jun 2011 11:55:03 EST Recovering Today I feel like I've reached the turning point and my arm is just starting the recovery process from carpal tunnel and elbow surgery. Looking forward to physical therapy so we can get things moving. 41 Sat, 4 Jun 2011 11:52:40 EST
