ROLLSTAR's SparkPeople Blog ROLLSTAR's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Here I am! So, it's been a crazy past few weeks. There are three big things right now:
1. My husband's job is transferring, so we are moving to the DFW area on FRIDAY. They gave him 2 weeks to get over there, and we wanted to go together, so we've been going crazy trying to find a new place to rent and get out of our old one. I think we're going to make it! Our new apartment is awesome and has a recently updated fitness center with kickboxing classes and they're trying to get Zumba there as well. I... Tue, 4 Jun 2013 16:00:26 EST Energy Drink Induced Video Blog Watch out! lol Fri, 17 May 2013 13:00:20 EST Here's to self control.

This really got to me. I really struggle with my eating habits. I'll do good for a while, then I'll do bad, then usually I just give up. This time around, I haven't given up, which is good, but I haven't been using my self control as I should be. And I'm getting frustrated with myself for interfering with my progress.

I saw this one day, and I stopped and thought about why I started. Because I WANT that... Mon, 13 May 2013 12:05:02 EST Double chin and armpit fat slimmer Yeah, an old high school friend of mine put that on Pinterest today. Sure, I'd LOVE to do a workout just for my double chin and armpits!!! Sounds like a winner!! Unfortunately, the link doesn't work, so I can't make fun of it more thoroughly.

This kind of stuff just makes me sad. That and food labels that are so misleading. People who don't educate themselves just don't have a chance! I think that business and the bottom line have a lot to do with the "obesity epidemic" or whatever... Tue, 7 May 2013 20:37:07 EST Working my Butt ON So... I guess I've always had pretty flat hindquarters... in fact, the only note that I ever took up from a student when I taught jr high said...something like "she has a pretty face, but when she turns round it's like pancake bootie." I have to admit that I was NOT offended. I still have it somewhere, by the way. Sadly, that was in the old ages before facebook and high res camera phones, so I can't find it and post it.

But anyway... all this weight lifting. It may finally give me ... Tue, 7 May 2013 00:59:54 EST My, what big weights you're lifiting!

Here's what I used for squats today. Those are each only 10 pounds!! lol But they are huge, so it made me feel tough! And now I know some of the other people that use this squat aren't lifting quite as much as I thought. lol It was 85 pounds, though!! Thu, 2 May 2013 21:39:03 EST Zumba! So yesterday I got to lead my first Latin-dance inspired aerobics session. It's exactly like Zumba. lol Only 3 ladies from my school came, but I think that more will start as we get into the swing of things. And they're already talking about continuing in the summer! It was pretty fun. I was nervous, but they didn't know anything about Zumba, so they didn't know when I did something wrong.

And.... I'm hoping to go get my real Zumba certification in May! I've been thinking about it... Tue, 30 Apr 2013 12:35:15 EST Video Update Four things that are going on with me. Thu, 25 Apr 2013 12:35:33 EST A pic that shows my body and I don't hate it?????
Yeah, that's me on the left. The piggy, not the piggy backer. :) Except that I DON'T look like a piggie! lol. It was my neice-by-best-friendship's birthday this week (the other piggie backer) and today was her party. We took a lot of pics and I was pleasantly surprised with not hating any of them! Also, there were a lot of people there who I hadn't seen since the last birthday party in August, and I got some compliments... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 23:18:01 EST Blog Redo I just wrote a whole long blog and then I lost it. :(

So here's the summary.
Remember the "coach" telling me about a supplement he's selling now? He gave me a brochure. It's called Skinny Fiber and they cite Wikipedia as a source in the brochure. It that doesn't scream winner, I don't know what does.

Today is workout B. I'll be doing deadlifts for the first time, and I'm excited about those because they make me feel like a real weight lifter. Also lunges, which I h... Thu, 18 Apr 2013 12:44:19 EST Strength Training Workout 1 Here's a recap of my first weight training session!
I meant to post it yesterday. I made it yesterday. lol Wed, 17 Apr 2013 08:43:02 EST New plan starts today! So here's my workout/nutrition plan for the next 6-ish weeks. It seems very crazy to me, but it makes sense when you put the science together with my goals. :)

Workouts: Stage 1 of NRoLW, Monday, Thursday, Saturday.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday will be active recovery. Zumba, running or something like that (10-30 minutes).

Nutrition (this is the crazy part): 2000 calories on non-ST days, 2300 on ST days.
Carbs-200-230 g, Protein-150-173 g, Fat-67-77 g... Mon, 15 Apr 2013 11:54:41 EST Do you even lift? I just told the PE/football coach at my school that I was going to start lifting weights next week. I was hoping he'd talk about weight lifting with me. Instead, he tried to sell me some kind of appetite suppressant. :/ He says he's already lost 5 pounds because he's only eating one meal a day now. You think that he, being a coach (as well as holding a teaching degree in physical education), would know better. You've got to have enough calories to support your activities. Plus, that's just t... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 15:40:39 EST 100th day in a row! So I finished my 100th day in a row of exercise yesterday!! And.... it kind of sucked. lol Not quite the exciting event I thought it would be. I was just really tired and not into doing the boot camp type moves my sister wanted to do, so I just did one set of cardio moves and one set of arm moves and a couple core moves and burned like 133 calories in 16 minutes. But I still did SOMETHING, and that's what matters. :)

Starting next week, I'm hitting the gym that I've been paying for... Thu, 11 Apr 2013 12:19:22 EST Video Update! So here a general update of what's going on with me!

And here are the promised pictures (you have to watch it to find out more! lol )

Tue, 9 Apr 2013 12:44:18 EST Sugar and Sleep So yesterday I had some leftover cake from my birthday and peanut butter MM's. But I guess it's normal to have a relapse, so I'm trying to not let it bother me and just move on, doing better today. I'm trying to not make this into an excuse, but I know that I do need to learn how to eat sweets in moderation. I know I can't live without sweets for forever. And I don't want to. :) But I DO want to live without going on crazy candy binges. I am by no means giving up on my sugar rehab plan, but I... Fri, 5 Apr 2013 10:08:44 EST Blogging Assignment My SparkCoash assignment today is to write a blog reflecting our workout habits. So I made mine into a vlog for fun. :) Tue, 2 Apr 2013 12:51:03 EST Vlog update! I did this a couple days ago and I still haven't gotten it posted. Anyway, it's long, so I chopped it up. Here's part 1! And it's kind of dumb. :) But I liked doing it! Wed, 27 Mar 2013 12:27:54 EST Sugar Rehab I'm checking myself into sugar rehab for the next three weeks. This means no extra sweets, except for maybe one on Easter and my birthday celebration.
This includes: candy, chocolate, marshmallows, coffee creamer, cake, ice cream, frozen yogurt, sprinkles, cookies, jelly beans, whipped cream, rice krispie treats, Brad's cereal, etc. This does NOT include: fruit/juice, Splenda, honey, yogurt, SF coffee syrup, or fiber bars eaten as a meal.

Please ask me about it and check up o... Sun, 24 Mar 2013 01:04:31 EST Yoga Pants Shortage!!
I thought this was hilarious. You should watch it. Thu, 21 Mar 2013 20:31:34 EST Finally, a blog! So... I haven't blogged in a while. Probably because I've been eating a lot of candy. A lot. But I'm trying to get back under control.

The good news is that I haven't broken my exercising streak! 75 Days!!! I want to at least make it through March, and see how it goes from there. :) I'm also trying to push myself more in my workouts, especially the strength training.

Here we have my cats modeling my old weights, which I mainly started working with last summer, and my new... Sat, 16 Mar 2013 21:35:14 EST 13.99 Digital Kitchen Scale on Groupon! There's a nice looking digital kitchen scale on Groupon today for only 13.99! It's $18 something with tax and shipping. A pretty good deal, I thought! I've been wanting a better kitchen scale for a long time... it's so much easier to weigh things than to figure out how many cups or whatever it is. But I have a really cheap Wal-Mart one and it's not that easy to use. So I'm excited about this one!!

And I think I get a credit if you buy it from this link! :)
$13.99 for a Kitchen... Sat, 2 Mar 2013 12:54:50 EST 13 points! I'm 13 points away from getting to the next Spark level!!!

I'm glad that I'm motivated by points that do nothing but get you virtual icons, Spark Streaks, and stickers. It makes my life easier. :)

And I'm on a 52 day work out streak!! Today will be 53!! Fri, 22 Feb 2013 09:48:58 EST A confession and Zumba Love So I've been slacking off on my eating and tracking the last two days. But I will make myself do it tomorrow! And I did a hour of Zumba tonight instead of 45 minutes to help offset all the candy I've been eating.

I love Zumba. I've just always enjoyed dancing, so it's a really fun way for me to exercise. I especially love the Latin beats and dance moves. And I have a little flouncy skirt I wear when I do it at home. It's a little short for the gym. :) I guess I could wear it with ... Fri, 22 Feb 2013 00:08:50 EST Some kind of random weigh loss thoughts So I've officially lost 50 pounds now! But I still have a looooong way to go. I'm barely halfway to my goal weight. I have to keep reminding myself that I'm still far away so that I don't get comfortable. I may have lost 50 pounds, but I'm still 40 pounds overweight. Well, 40 pounds from my goal weight of 150. Actually, my healthy range for my height is 125 to 168. So I'm really actually less than 25 pounds overweight now. That sounds better. :) And 150 may end up being too skinny or too hard... Tue, 19 Feb 2013 12:14:13 EST 50 pounds! I was so excited to see that I'd lost weight this morning... and even more excited to see that it brought me to 50 pounds gone!! Woo hoo!!

I went through my closet tonight and got rid of a bunch of clothes that are just too big now. :) Plus, since I'm feeling better about the way I look, I've been shopping more, and I needed to make room for my new clothes! I actually wore skinny jeans to work today!

I'm really, really, really going to reach my goal weight this time! Ove... Mon, 18 Feb 2013 20:59:40 EST Progress looks good on you!
Found this on on... Pinterest, of course.
I love it!!
I'm not there yet... barely almost halfway, even.
But the progress is looking good on me. :) I'm feeling better, I'm enjoying compliments from the most random people, I'm not afraid to squat down because my knees can't push me back up, I'm not completely blown away at the thought of doing a handstand someday, I've been cooking and eating at home with m... Tue, 12 Feb 2013 00:04:10 EST Look what my work outs got me! So remember that I'm giving myself a dollar tip each time I work out?
Well, look what I found and BOUGHT from Groupon!

Only $38... and I had $39 in my tip envelope!

And... I went ahead and ordered both pairs... lol... I couldn't decide between black and brown. These are the EXACT style I've been looking for and such a good deal! So I got the other pair as my 190 pounds goal reward. Now I'm not there... Sat, 9 Feb 2013 22:50:50 EST Presale for Tickets to the Gun show
Haha, well, I'm not quite ready to sell tickets yet, but I'm on my way. I just finished a beast mode workout with Coach Nicole tonight. I did almost all the moves on advanced mode the whole time, and I was even able to do some side planks in intermediate position... not on one knee anymore!!

Hopefully I'm getting stronger and it's not just the Prednisone. :) But one day of steroids for ALLERGIES isn't going to... Fri, 8 Feb 2013 23:49:50 EST A little venting. I'm on a 38 day work out streak!! I like it!! And I've learned that it's okay to work out everyday and that it's okay to have some of those work outs be less intense. I don't have to push myself to exhaustion everyday! Just some days. :)

So with that positivity out of the way, I have some ranting to do.

I have some kind of eyelid thing. Like a rash or infection or something. I've been putting this steroid cream on it and it hasn't helped at all, so I went back to the doc... Fri, 8 Feb 2013 09:19:10 EST Because if I'm going to hurt...
I LOVE this.
It goes right along with the quote about suffer the pain of discipline or suffer the pain of regret. It hurts to tear yourself down all the time and hate what you see. It also hurts to work your butt off and be so sore you can barely move. But at least you get something out of that! You are building yourself up! You are DOING something about the things you don't like. There's hope there.

And... Thu, 7 Feb 2013 23:26:50 EST Relapse is a part of recovery I just read a Sparkblog from 2009 about a fitness instructor named Debra Mazda who actually lost 140 pounds on her own before getting into fitness. Here's my favourite quote from the blog: "Well, I did relapse many times. When you’ve been addicted to food, relapse is part of recovery. But I was able to get a grip on myself before re-gaining all of my weight and more. I stayed very focused on my goals and decided that I would succeed. This became a passion of mine and still is today, changing ... Tue, 5 Feb 2013 16:42:31 EST Thanks for the Spark Streaks, Chris! So I tried to do 31 workouts in December, inspired by Coach Nicole. Then I got the flu. So I decided to do it in January, then. I made it! And I got a 31 day exercising Spark Streak. Now I don't want to stop exercising each day just to keep the streak going!! I guess that's the whole point of "streaking," and it's working for me!! Even my husband is encouraging me to keep it going! And I now have $34 in my workout tip envelope! That's like half a pair of boots! Maybe I can get some on sale...... Sun, 3 Feb 2013 22:47:48 EST Realistically... One of my fast break goals is to collect a motivational picture (and I'm still doing it... :) ) and Pinterest makes it SO easy. But do a search for "fitness inspiration" and you'll find so many people that look like this:

or even this:

Yeah. That's not happening. That's very unrealistic for me. I realize that I'm not going to ... Tue, 29 Jan 2013 00:20:46 EST New goal
My new goal is to work up to a handstand!!! I've kind of wanted to ever since I saw a 60-70ish lady do one at the gym, and I saw this on Pinterest--actually giving you some steps to work up to it. So I'm going to try it!

Lol... it was tough! But doable! Sun, 27 Jan 2013 09:57:20 EST On a roll! I've got some good momentum going! I've eaten within or close to my calorie range the last 6 days (I got some phentermine from my doctor again, so that helps, even if it's only in my mind), I've workout out 24 out of 24 days so far in January, and I haven't eaten out in 10 days! I'm going to weigh in tomorrow and see if there's any change. I hope so!

Yesterday, I went running with my sister because it was warm and sunny for the first time in days! She has knee problems, so she want... Thu, 24 Jan 2013 23:10:44 EST Still cookin'! Literally! I've made it two weeks cooking dinner at least 4 nights a week, and we sat down and made our menu and shopped for next week! I'm liking it. I enjoy the time with my husband as he helps get stuff ready and clean up after.

And after my workout tonight, I'll be on day 19 of working out everyday in January! I will do this!! And after seeing the idea on Pinterest, I started a workout tip jar for myself. Well, it's really an envelope pinned to my bulletin board. :)
<img... Sat, 19 Jan 2013 22:16:19 EST Made it a week! I've made it a week of working out and tracking every day! Not that I've stayed on track each day, but most days I have!

I've also cooked 3 out of 4 planned meals this week! It's not THAT bad when I have it planned out. It's just hard to decide what to make when you're already hungry, and then you just eat out because it's faster. But if you plan ahead, then you know what to fix and you have all the ingredients and maybe even all you have to do is scoop something out of the crockpo... Wed, 9 Jan 2013 00:06:23 EST So... is racing like giving birth? I don't have kids yet, but I think running a half is kind of like having kids. I was excited and a bit wary up until the race, preparing, training, taking vitamins, reading articles and buying gear...during the race I was miserable and hurting, begging for drugs, but I had to keep going, and then after the race I felt awesome and now I can hardly remember the pain at all and I just was thinking to myself that it wasn't that bad and that I should do another! lol

I'm 5/5 of days exer... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 20:46:15 EST Well, I'm back. I should be on pretty regularly for a while! I've GOT to lose these last 50 pounds! I've let a couple pounds creep back on (probably would've been more if I hadn't gotten the flu, then a stomach thing!) and it's time to head to the other way!

My goal is to track and measure everyday in January. So far, I'm 2 for 2! And I've got to get back into exercising, since I'm planning on doing a 10k on February 2. A 10k sounds SO manageable now that I've done a half! :) I'm going to try to d... Wed, 2 Jan 2013 19:32:44 EST Flu. :( Well.... I took a planned day off after my half, and I started feeling pretty sick... got a fever, all that good stuff. I took the next morning off to go to the doctor, and he told me I had the flu and not to go back to work all week. Which would have been nice if I hadn't been so miserable! I haven't had the flu in years, but I guess my body was kinda worn out from all that running, so the defense department was slacking.

So... I haven't exercised all week, either, obviously, and ... Fri, 14 Dec 2012 13:44:51 EST 2:58:08 My first ever half marathon was today! I did the Dallas Marathon--used to be the White Rock. I was aiming for 3.5 hours, but I came in at 2:58!! Woo hoo! It was awesome! My family and friends were SOOO supportive and made me feel so special! the atmosphere around the race was fun, there were like 20000 people in the race!! There were even helicopters!

There were spectators all over the place, I even high fived a biker! The run was to benefit the Texas Scottish Rite Children's Hosp... So far so good! I'll update every couple days!

In further news.... MY RACE IS THIS WEEKEND!!! WOO HOO!!! It's the Dallas Marathon--- I'm doing the half, and I'll be wearing bib number 16516! There will me more people in the race than live in my town!! Crazy!! My goal is to finish under 3.5 hours... I think that's pretty doable. That's more than a 15 minute mile, and I know I run fast than that. I'm soooo exci... Sun, 2 Dec 2012 21:32:10 EST How many times do I have to say this? So I can tell that I've gained back some weight and I do not like it. I keep saying over and over that I'm going to do better, but that lasts for like a day, then I'm having a mocha or froyo or a taco or two. Those "indulgences" are what kill me every time... because one turns into two, which turns into more, and pretty soon I'm back to picking up fast food every day and eating all the fries and not even bothering to get a diet drink with it all and that's how I have TWICE gained back 40 poun... Wed, 21 Nov 2012 12:28:57 EST Update I've spent most of the week being sick. Not fun.
My eating has been pretty crazy... need to reel that back in and remember that I don't like fast food--not even Taco Bell.
I've been writing a lot for National Novel Writing Month. I'm behind on that, too.... but I see a lot of similarities in trying to write a novel and trying to run a half... you just have to keep going, one word at a time or one step at a time, and it doesn't matter if every single one of them is perfect at this ... Sun, 18 Nov 2012 10:09:03 EST I wish I got these on every run! Tue, 13 Nov 2012 20:20:00 EST Weekly goals to get back on track So I tracked all my food on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. I did go over yesterday, though, because I ate a cookie. I forgot that we went to froyo earlier, so I didn't track it and thought I had extra calories. Oh well. That was a good cookie. :)

I've tracked for today and I'm planning on cooking dinner for us tonight (we are so bad about going out!). I just need to be a tracker and a planner with food. If I don't have that accountability, I just eat and eat and eat even when I'm no... Mon, 5 Nov 2012 11:19:29 EST Not as fat as an elephant
We went to the zoo today and I can say that I'm not as fat nor am I as wrinkly (or stinky) as an elephant. :)

This is also the second day in a row that I've stayed in my calorie range and have had (or will be having in the next few minutes) all my water!

And I ran 4 miles today. And I was looking forward to a short run. And this coming from a girl who wrote a poem in grade school that likened depre... Sat, 3 Nov 2012 22:56:15 EST Not so bad. Well, I finally weighed in again (I was scared) an it turns out that I've gained less than a pound. Not nearly as bad as I thought. Yesterday was the first day I tracked all my food again and I just barely stayed in my calorie range. Just barely still counts. So we are moving forward from here! The only candy I have in the house is dark chocolate, I'm going to have lots of fruits and veggies, and I'm going to get stuff for healthy dinners when we go grocery shopping today. And I'm going to ru... Sat, 3 Nov 2012 10:27:59 EST
