ROGUECHIP's SparkPeople Blog ROGUECHIP's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Halfway there - February I set a goal of 30 minutes of exercise EVERY day in February. So far I have made it all days but one and that was last Friday when I was on a hard deadline and then had an early evening date with my B. U. Tiffle wife. The resulting goal is to lose a pound per week for a total of four pounds this month. So far I have lost two pounds. It's working. Fri, 14 Feb 2014 17:14:47 EST 21 months later Wow. I cannot believe it's been almost two years since my last entry here. My weight is still to high, my stress level is even higher, and my spare time has practically vanished. I tried Weight Watchers for a while a couple months ago, but with all the travel and business meetings I couldn't stay on it. My wife has stuck with it and she has done great. I need a lifestyle turn-around. Maybe getting back on the Spark will help. Thu, 14 Mar 2013 23:14:19 EST Starting again Over the past four months, my fitness has slid backwards steadily. I have a ton of excuses, but two stand out: bad weather has kept me off my bike and my start-up business has me working from early morning into the evening. I've been eating badly and drinking too much. The bottom line - or should we say the middle line - is that I've put on close to ten pounds since March.
But two developments have put that motivation back in me. Firstly, I'm going to visit my 88-year-old mother for my b... Thu, 23 Jun 2011 10:41:04 EST Sheeesh! Is it over? Is it April yet? What a month here on the Southern Oregon coast. Besides snow, hail, 100-mph winds, earthquakes and tsunamis ... we've had rain, rain, and more rain. My friend who runs the County Highway Department has a rain gauge at his office and through Monday the 28th, he measured 26 inches of rain. That's basically an inch a day. Imagine that: over two feet of water coming from the sky in four weeks. Why do you think the two major colleges in Oregon have a duck and a beaver as their mascots? Could it be... Thu, 31 Mar 2011 12:41:03 EST Wild Wildlife Ride Got out for a ride yesterday - it was WINDY and drizzling and about 50 degrees. A dark, sloppy, wild ride for sure. It was the first time out of the house since the Tsunami and the incredible storms we've had over the past three days. There were trees down, branches everywhere, lots of rocks in the road and deep pavement cracking from the ground underneath slipping away. I certainly wasn't dressed for it and I froze.
But I wasn't the only one out and about; the wildlife was out scoping... Tue, 15 Mar 2011 12:57:19 EST Shorts Stories (or goals and snow) I have two distinct cycling goals for the year. The first is to log 4,000 outside miles which would be the approximate distance from my home of the past 17 years, Gold Beach, Oregon to my childhood home of Powers Lake, Wisconsin and back again. It sounds like a lot, but if you break it into smaller bite sized pieces, it's extremely doable - just under 11 miles a day if you could ride every day. I know that's impossible, so I've got it broken down by month: 100 miles in January, 200 miles in F... Thu, 24 Feb 2011 13:43:41 EST Ain't bad It's been a long five days: I've met with one of our Senators as well as representative from the Governor's office; I sent out almost 30 queries to literary agents looking for a publisher for my book; and have done a little partying in between and betwixt. 33
You'll no doubt agree with me that some cycle-therapy is just what the doctor ordered.
So off I pedaled into a headwind (uphill no less) smiling like a newly paroled felon. I got to the corner, out by the ocean, ... Mon, 21 Feb 2011 20:08:45 EST Gloves and Buckets I've been riding my road bike pretty seriously over the past eight or nine years and besides the green-teethed meth-head's empty cans of Rock Star and Coors Light, I usually see at least one bucket and at least one glove on my rides. Usually - not always.

This artistically-splayed glove that I came across today has been run over so many times that after a few more wet log trucks, it will become a piece of the bridg... Mon, 21 Feb 2011 19:57:14 EST Sunny & Stormy No, those aren't the names of my cat and dog, it the weird weather on Oregon's South Coast today. It's blowing 30 to 50, raining hard, AND the sun is shining. I think I'll stay inside!
Just got done sending out 10 more queries to literary agents in hope of getting representation for my novel. I've already got two responses back - both rejections. Oh well, only 98 more to go.
Happy Valentines Day! Mon, 14 Feb 2011 15:36:35 EST gray cycling day Looked like we weren't going to get the rain that was forecast, Cindy is over in the Valley, so I hopped on my bike. At first I was going to just do the Two Bridges Loop, a great route up and down both sides of the last eleven miles of the Rogue River before it slips into the Pacific.
But I kept going and ended up over 35 miles. It was cool and cloudy with a freshening SW breeze. The roads were wet when I started. But there was very little traffic, the river was a gorgeous translucent g... Sun, 13 Feb 2011 18:02:30 EST
