ROCKN2ROLLIN's SparkPeople Blog ROCKN2ROLLIN's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community plate method so simple to follow....but a hard head like me will go for the carbs and forget about balance! for me, I better put the veggies/fruits on the plate first, then the protein with carbs being last! and I should start adding that glass of soy milk, since I've been complaining about still being hungry after a meal. Sat, 11 Jan 2014 09:41:50 EST eliminate, categorize, organize! OK people, what better month than January to clear out the clutter and make room for new things, new experiences? So eliminate what you don't need/want, categorize what you're keeping, then organize it so it will be easy to use/find. Let go of ideas/plans that didn't work. Let go of emotions that are dragging you down. Let go of relationships that are draining ,or worse, toxic. Think about the things that worked, the times that went well, the good yet unexpected results that came from you... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 07:44:49 EST motivational techniques I'm still struggling to stay motivated...I guess it's because I'm not sure how to consistently motivate myself. I think I've had success with goals tied to an event like training to run in a 5K. So I'll ponder that and try to use it in other areas. Any suggestions regarding eating healthy?...Maybe make my own cookbook... Sat, 28 Dec 2013 17:07:54 EST enlisted help I've seen my motivation disappear and my weight creep upwards so I've enlisted help. I print out the fitfood menu plans and go over choices with my husband to find meals we will both eat. I joined a weightloss challenge so there will be people who will be looking for me to post my progress/encourage me to hit those lower numbers. My husband is also going to weigh-in with me on Sundays as he has about 15 lbs to lose. It's December 1st, so its the perfect time to start weighing in and taking... Sun, 1 Dec 2013 11:23:04 EST no happiness in the journey? so the question was posed: How will I know that I am getting healthier if I have no weigh-ins on a scale, no size labels in my clothing, no charts to monitor my BMI? How will I feel happiness if I can't boast of reaching that # on the scale-chart-size? Some signs are tangible: my clothes will feel loose, my muscles will start to show, my face will have a healthy glow, I will be more flexible. I will have more energy. Things that were physically hard-like taking the stairs-will become easi... Fri, 4 Oct 2013 10:58:29 EST first "bootcamp" class okay, so I survived. met some new friends. came home. took Aleve. took a second Aleve. just trying to remind myself how awesome I will look if I survive. next be able to move my limbs in the morning! Tue, 10 Sep 2013 20:49:10 EST boot camp challenging myself to stay focused during this 21 day boot camp. trying to let go of processed foods and loser carbs (white rice, white bread, white potatoes, most cereals). cutting back on my love of flavored creamers in my coffee...switching to unsweetened teas. being very active throughout my day-in the yard, in the house, at the gym. longer stretch routines-I'm in my 50's so it's a must. looking for daily motivation! Tue, 10 Sep 2013 11:25:05 EST Diana Nyad just have to say Diana Nyad rocks! 64 years old and she just swam, what, 53 hours to get to Fla. from Cuba. 5th try brought success. I keep a quote on my bulletin board:"enthusiasm holds onto our dreams. persistence makes the most of them." congrats to her and her team! Mon, 2 Sep 2013 22:51:55 EST slow carb diet I just received a slow carb nutrition guideline from a fitness center that I joined this past week. sounds interesting so I searched Sparkpeople for a slow carb team and voila! there actually is one. Nice to know help is available. Now I must go and have a little goodbye ceremony as I put all the white stuff (flour, rice, waffles, potatoes) in the trash and make room for better foods. Although there is a cheat day for each week....hmm. Fri, 16 Aug 2013 10:29:55 EST TRX equipment is fun 2nd day at fitness center. learned how to use TRX equipment. fun. if you haven't tried it, look for a gym that has the equipment...makes calisthenics fun. you work with these long straps with handles that are attached to a large metal frame. you use your own body weight as you lean away from the apparatus doing the equivalent of squats, push-ups, plank moves, triceps exercises, etc. it feels a bit like you're in training for cirque du soleil! ok, well, you're not up in the air but one ... Thu, 15 Aug 2013 11:08:45 EST found a new place to work out! joined a fitness center to replace my favorite place to work out that had to close. felt like a weight off my shoulders. glad to have somewhere to go and get inspired. this gym is much busier/noisier but it felt good to be among athletes! we had to do sit ups, push ups, squats and planks as part of our fitness front of a crowd of people milling around waiting for their trainers, waiting for their class to start, etc. in a previous time, I would have been mortified. now,... Wed, 14 Aug 2013 10:35:03 EST change up my work out Today I start at a new gym. I joined an 8 week biggest loser style boot camp. Talk about changing up my workout! They pride themselves on surprising you with a different workout during each class. just hoping I surprise myself with what I can do. Tue, 13 Aug 2013 08:35:32 EST ha! just read the saying "I don't sweat, I make my fat cry." Hoping to shed a lot of tears this month! Sun, 28 Jul 2013 17:41:08 EST one door closes Last day for my go-to place for kickboxing...helped the owner move things out as he prepares to pack up and head to another state..sad and depressing but we all agreed that new and meaningful things were awaiting all of us. one door closes=another door opens... Sat, 27 Jul 2013 12:36:23 EST diet saboteur Had to sigh...the suggestion was to blog about someone who tries to sabotage my diet...that would be me! Tue, 2 Jul 2013 18:16:32 EST Yay! official first day of summer! My lilies are blooming, my hostas are huge, my squash are sporting big blossoms! Time to ramp up the grilling and start muddling the mojitos! My bucket is full of mosquito repellant and sun lotion and baseball caps...and my runs start earlier in the morning! Hope everyone is taking a big breath of fresh air and sunshine! Fri, 21 Jun 2013 10:39:45 EST caught in a cycle I seem to be on repeat. I keep losing and gaining back the same 5 pounds. I get down for a week; eat a bunch of sugary stuff all week (and/or any snacks that my family has in the house); skip my runs and walks or Kickboxing; gain back pounds with a vengeance and then somehow re-motivate myself to get back on track. Getting back on track is great but the long term effect is no real weight loss. I could be done with my weight loss journey by now but instead I am still at the starting line. S... Sun, 9 Jun 2013 09:35:40 EST quick and easy breakfast ideas how about 2 hi fiber waffles with a carton of greek yogurt; Nature's Path Heritage grains cereal with half a banana, handful of walnuts and soy milk; hi-fiber toast w/tub margarine and some cottage cheese with a Tbs of Polaner strawberry jam (that actually has fiber in it) and some strawberries or blueberries mixed in. And any breakfast can include an orange-to replace orange juice- as a better option. Sat, 25 May 2013 08:55:56 EST motivate others to motivate yourself My daughter has no real desire to run but she started training when people at work formed a group to train as runner entrants for the annual Susan G. Komen race for the cure. She knew I had been training for this 5k and thought she would try to join me...we always just walked it before. She's about 2 weeks into the program and she admitted to me that she hates running. She likes the idea of running for fundraising but the race is 38 days away and it feels a long way off. I realized that I c... Thu, 28 Mar 2013 11:36:59 EST The "why" behind my fitness goals Why do I want to be stronger? I want to score a much better number on the Adult Fitness Test ( from the President's Challenge site(this one's for my ego). Also, I want to feed my inner tomboy and move from modified push-ups to standard...I mean, come on, it's been a year since I started doing them! And finally, I want to have great endurance. That means finishing strong in our 3 min rounds in kickboxing and it means becoming a runner! What will I do after I achiev... Thu, 14 Mar 2013 11:58:57 EST week 4 motivators-who needs the scale! so I'm having trouble getting on board with tracking my nutrition...i hate to stop and search for the info to add what I ate to my nutrition tracker. but I'm being patient with myself. i refuse to give up. i will find the motivators that will pull me in line with where i need to be! for now, i am enjoying and celebrating the things that are going well-exercise, drinking enough fluids, eating more fruits and veggies, and getting up on time so that i can fit in a good workout! i am revelli...
