ROCKINMOM776's SparkPeople Blog ROCKINMOM776's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Hey There! Hello, all!

I am still plugging along, working at the nursing home. My weight is maintaining in the mid 180s, and I'm just letting my body do its thing right now. I've started adding lots of raw foods and whole foods to help with inflammation and just to sort of detox and feel better, but not obsessing about the numbers. My clothes are comfortable right now and I feel better when I eat better.

So, here's the skinny on the work situation...

After all those m... Wed, 19 Mar 2014 20:41:06 EST Update! Hello, all!

Just dropping in to let you know I'm still alive and plugging along. My DB boss lost his job last week so I'm now pulling double duty, doing both his job and mine. Hopefully they will get someone in the position that actually cares and knows what they are doing!

In other news, I got my Associates degree with a 4.0 in Paralegal Studies! I am still enrolled and pursuing my BS, just so I won't be a quitter, lol.

I also had another interview with the... Sun, 26 Jan 2014 13:34:41 EST :/ I'm taking a moment to get my head around all that I have to do. I don't know why I keep doing this here, when my weight loss has totally stalled and I'm not even truly trying to make it kick up right now, but I guess this has become a diary of sorts for me.

I feel on the verge of a meltdown right now. I'm in a position to have to work more hours (typically 50), on my feet, with a healing sprained and dislocated ankle, torn cartilage in the opposite hip, and my genetically bad fe... Thu, 24 Oct 2013 13:34:39 EST Reposted from a friend... Asked by a Spark friend to copy and paste .....

We could all use these words of encouragement now and then.

Everyone will go through some hard times at some point. Life isn't easy.

Just something to think about... did you know the people that are the strongest are usually the most sensitive?

Did you know the people who exhibit the most kindness are the first to get mistreated?

Did you know the ones who take care of others all the time are... Thu, 17 Oct 2013 17:21:53 EST Hello :) Hi there :)

Just stopping by to say hi. Work is going a little better. I'm still praying for my boss (and that other job), but the Lord is helping to make it manageable for me while I'm there.

Still waiting on the cpap machine for my DH. He's not sleeping and it's wearing him very thin and affecting his work. I'm afraid if things don't change soon he'll lose his job (he's off the rest of this week, and I don't know what his work thinks about that). I am just trustin... Wed, 25 Sep 2013 21:53:17 EST Happy Labor Day :) Hey ya'll (in my best Paula Deen) :)

I'm plugging along, trying to keep up with my life. My last day at the supermarket was yesterday and my boss at the nursing home came in with an attitude already today (as if he knows that now my options are limited, therefore he can do as he wishes because I'm stuck). I keep hearing rumors but I'm trying to chalk it up to working with a bunch of girls who have too much time on their hands and like to keep drama going all the time. I'm just p... Mon, 2 Sep 2013 22:28:06 EST Hey! Hi, strangers! I'm still here, just really busy.

I started my fall semester monday, but I haven't actually done any real homework yet, lol! I have assignments due tomorrow, saturday, and monday though, so I'd better get crackin'.

My new job is cool. I'm making friends with lots of the residents and staff and that makes me feel better about the work. My supervisor is an atheist and pretty much openly sneers at my faith though. That makes it pretty difficult to deal... Wed, 21 Aug 2013 21:42:27 EST Special delivery So I did a 16 hour day on Friday, a 16.5 on Monday, and 17 Wed and today. I have at least 2 bones out of place in one foot and one out in the other, but I'm making it. I went ahead and gave notice at the supermarket yesterday because it doesn't make sense to leave one job to go to another to make $8 less per hour. Plus, I'm friggen tired!

Only eating once a day, but popping multivitamins like candy (not really, only 2x/day) to try to make up for the long hours and lack of sleep.... Thu, 8 Aug 2013 23:13:23 EST Happy Friday!! Hi-ya! I'm pooped. I worked all day today and we had a big sale... then right as people were getting off work and coming in, our registers/computer system totally crashed and was offline for at least 10 minutes. Ten minutes doesn't sound like a long time until you're facing people holding melting ice cream and crying babies just trying to get home to make dinner before they spontaneously combust!! It took all registers open and all staff bagging to get the lines out (they were halfway bac... Fri, 26 Jul 2013 22:53:33 EST Reunion Success! Hi there! It's Monday night before midnight, and I'm finished with all my algebra homework and rocked out a big old 100% on my quiz :) I'm proud of that one, because I really have to work for my math grades.

I had orientation at the nursing home today. It's going to be much different than the fast-paced environment I'm used to, but I think my skills could help things run a little more efficiently (at least on the staff service line... they literally had 4 pieces of fish and som... Mon, 22 Jul 2013 23:43:55 EST Happy Saturday!! No more creeper calls yet... thankfully! I feel confident that between the officer contacting him and my husband calling his dad, he'll find it's in his best interest to forget he ever dialed our number.

Work was so slow today. It felt like I worked open to close, but I was only there for 7 hours. I hope business picks up soon. I like to stay busy, so I don't think about how much my feet hurt.

I have orientation at the nursing home Monday. I'm also submitting a resu... Sat, 20 Jul 2013 00:23:19 EST Fear the Creeper I have to have a physical for the nursing home job. I don't suppose one must be thin and fit to work in a kitchen for retirees, right?

We are in the midst of an enormous thunderstorm right now. I'm supposed to be doing algebra but the rain sounds so dreamily relaxing... like listening to Pink Floyd... makes me wanna sit on the couch and eat brownies, lol :) Not really, but it does make me wanna go to bed early.

I'm hoping that with my first paycheck I will have enough... Wed, 17 Jul 2013 21:56:45 EST Monday!! Hub's assessment was today. Doc is recommending the 2nd part of his sleep study and a cpap machine, which we expected. I'm just thankful that he is finally getting help. The study revealed that he'd stopped breathing an avg of 30 times per hour during the first study. Doc was very concerned.

My night job is working out well so far. I've made a few mistakes, but am loving being around people again. I do best when working with the public. Whether it's volunteering somewhere, r... Mon, 15 Jul 2013 23:56:24 EST Thursday Okay, so the nursing home offered me the kitchen job at a better salary than they first quoted... but the administrator said she'd rather have my experience managing the dietary staff than over the stove (and I'd rather be doing that, as well)... unfortunately, they've already offered that job to another guy. We had a wonderful conversation this morning, and decided we'd both pray about the situation and come together and make a decision in a couple of days. I feel like this is the Lord tel... Thu, 11 Jul 2013 23:11:10 EST Wednesday!! I just realized how much more energy I have when I don't eat as much food. The last two days since I started working again, I've only had a protein-rich breakfast and a decent-sized lunch, then a yogurt or something when I get home (because it's after 10pm). I woke up this morning at 5am, feeling awesome! I had finished 3 loads of laundry and grocery-shopped before 9am (and visited a sick friend). AND I was gonna wash my car, but then the heavens opened up (sadly, my car was under the car... Wed, 10 Jul 2013 20:54:36 EST Tuesday ;) Ahh, I had forgotten the joys of working with petulant teenagers! I was by far the oldest person at work last night except the back manager. I will have to get used to standing on my feet for all those hours (6 in a row, ouch!) again, and will have to develop a better system of squatting down to face shelves that doesn't hurt my back. But all in all, I think it went well!

My dog was made at me for not being here, I guess, because she pooped in my bedroom floor... and again at th... Tue, 9 Jul 2013 13:15:36 EST Sunday!! Howdy-do! Hope everyone has had a wonderful and relaxing Sunday :)

I've spent the better part of the last 2 days working a full week ahead in algebra. My next assignment isn't due until the 21st, but if I can I'm going to try to do a little every day and work it all the way through.

Tomorrow is my first day at my evening job. I'm hoping to hear from at least one of my potentials early in the week, but either way I'm still going to test for the dhhr job. I hear that i... Sun, 7 Jul 2013 21:43:18 EST Happy Saturday!! Happy Saturday, sparkies!

I trust everyone is still enjoying the holiday festivities... I know in our town people are still letting off fireworks (at midnight, mostly) and making sure the local po-po are staying busy.

We have not been. I have finished my English class and am now focusing on working ahead in algebra. I have 6(ish) weeks left but want to get closer to finished since I start working Monday. Wouldn't it be grand if I finished the entire class by the end... Sat, 6 Jul 2013 09:09:57 EST Wednesday!! Still no word on the day job, but I start the evening job on Monday (thank you, Jesus!). I had an offer to manage the kitchen of a retirement home. Probably better money than the office job, but it would mean more time on my feet, and with the night job being a standing job I don't know if my body can handle it. I may turn in my resume anyway to see what they offer and what the benefit package is.

I'm still trying to get my paper together for school. I had a terrible migraine y... Wed, 3 Jul 2013 19:04:02 EST Tuesday ;) Still no word on the day-job. Should hear today, but I don't know. Just praying I hear something from SOMEWHERE soon.

Walked a mile and a half yesterday (hiked, really). My hip is really telling me about it today. But I feel pretty good about it. I always feel better when I get some fresh air.

Still looking for 3 more sources for my research paper. It's due friday. I'm stressing out, so I took a break to Spark!

Trying to figure out what to fix for dinner... Tue, 2 Jul 2013 15:32:51 EST Hi there :) So I've been hired for the part-time night job, but they have yet to put me on the schedule. What's up with that? It's been 2 wks and now they're saying they have to make a decision about promoting one employee, whose hours I could take, or if not I'll have to wait for another one to quit. I was expecting to draw a paycheck by this week. This is very disappointing.

The other interviews went well, but I'm waiting to hear whether or not they're going to combine the 2 jobs they're... Sun, 30 Jun 2013 19:12:19 EST Hey there :) Hello, friends!

Finally working out financial arrangements for all the doctor bills DH has incurred. He has to have another part to his sleep study (yuck) to set the cpap settings, then hopefully we can both get some good rest. He's been afraid to fall into a deep sleep so he basically naps all night, and every time he moves, I wake up. Getting him a good, full night's sleep will do us all some good!

Sad news on Father's day, my cousin passed away. I feel terrible ... Wed, 19 Jun 2013 11:00:22 EST Update:) God is good :) I have 2 interviews lined up for potential job opportunities. I know that our needs will be provided for. Thanks for the prayers!

So, in other news, despite my mental breakdown yesterday, I have eaten really well today. The injection in my hip has helped the joint pain, but I had a sublaxation episode last night so the muscles/surrounding tissue are very sore today. It's a process. We're having pasta and salad for dinner tonight.

Hubs has a dr. appt ... Thu, 13 Jun 2013 17:16:44 EST Wednesday!! Hello, dear friends. I have been present, but unable to blog. I should've though, so I didn't eat my feelings. I have not gained (at least I don't think so), but I still feel the same in my clothes (only with the guilt of poor choices).

I had a major meltdown today. Yesterday I opened the mailbox and received an enormous bill for our vehicle insurance (the company failed to add on the premiums for the new truck for the last 2 months, so they lumped it all into July's bill) to t... Wed, 12 Jun 2013 20:41:12 EST Monday!! Happy Monday:)

We've had both a rainstorm and a beautiful, sunny day today. It rained long enough to make it cool, and now it's around 70 degrees and beautiful outside.

I've had to spend the whole day inside again (it is a Monday, after all, and essays just don't write themselves). I have a lean pot roast in the crock pot with potatoes and carrots and will make green beans. I'm excited about that :)

I'm happy to report that my life is relatively mundane r... Mon, 3 Jun 2013 16:52:30 EST Friday :) Ahhh... once again we've gone straight from winter to summer with only a couple days of spring. I keep telling ya, Mama Nature is bipolar. Someone get her a mood stabilizer, please! But I am not going to complain... there is so much devastation out west and the season has just started. They are in my prayers.

I just found out that my friend who passed away in 2011's mother just passed yesterday. He was only 38 and had a rare cancer. I think she grieved herself sick, and just ... Fri, 31 May 2013 21:30:15 EST Tuesday ;) Well, we've done it... WV has officially become #1 at something!! We're the MOST OBESE STATE in America! I am sad to say that my statistics have contributed to that win. After hovering around 2-3 for the last couple of years, we have finally fast-fooded our way into number 1.

Lots of people are commenting on how the number of people on gov't assistance is directly related to the obesity percentage, and I believe it's true. People in my state vary economically from the very, ver... Tue, 28 May 2013 17:06:16 EST Happy Memorial Day!! Well, I'm happy to report that things are finally settling down in the old Rockin' household (thank God for small favors!). DH hasn't had any pain since yesterday morning, and I managed to get my school work done on time.

Aside from the extreme dry-eye this Wellbutrin is giving me, it's not so bad. Fortunately I remembered to take it in the morning because it can cause insomnia (which I learned the hard way last time).

Food has been going well for me, despite birthda... Mon, 27 May 2013 21:23:32 EST We're home :) Thanks to all for the love and prayers... DH was released this evening and is home and comfortable. All his labs came back negative for a heart attack but he was still having pain/pressure this morning until about 10:30. He had a pretty nasty apnea episode last night (his nurse actually had to wake him up a couple of times b/c he'd stopped breathing and his heart monitor alarmed at the desk) so he's scheduled for a sleep test and a stress test. I guess the official diagnosis was actually ... Fri, 24 May 2013 23:35:41 EST Nothing about food or weight. At all. AJ was negative for blood clot. I had my bloodwork done today (though they refused to recheck thyroid bc it was too early). Left the doc and DH called me from the job site... chest pain and short of breath, nausea. I drove the hour drive in half the time and took him straight to the ER. So far his cardiac enzymes have been negative but he's still having pain. And nitro paste is helping, so that sounds cardiac to me. But I'm no nurse.

He was doing well, then got up to go to th... Thu, 23 May 2013 23:51:28 EST Tuesday ;) Hi friends...

Food went well yesterday despite the Heath Bar Ice Cream Cake at my nephew's birthday party. I had a small piece, but it was entirely too rich so overeating was not even an issue.

AJ has been having pain in her leg (down towards the ankle) that runs along a blood vessel... it's been going on for a few days (and I didn't want to overreact). I let her have a couple of days to see if it went away but it has not, so I'm taking her to the ER to make sure there... Tue, 21 May 2013 08:20:51 EST Bobby Hill and Macaroni Musings Good morning!

I'm just stopping by to put in my daily dose of accountability... I'm happy to report that there have been no binge episodes, in the closet or otherwise. I'm getting ready to take an English test (I always hear Hank Hill's voice when I say that, "Bobby, an 'F' in English?? You SPEAK English!!").

I am trying to get back into last year's habit of 2 boiled eggs for breakfast and n... Mon, 20 May 2013 10:16:32 EST Sunday!! So... how is it that I have half as many classes and twice the work??? I know I'm taking another algebra, but am I mistaken in thinking there's a word problem in there? 1/2c(lasses) = 2w(ork) X infinity (or at least the next 8 weeks). Bummer.

I've cooked at home every day this week. I'm very proud of that fact. Additionally, I'm broke until DH gets paid again, so I can't afford to go out. That helps considerably. On the down side of that, I'm broke, so I'm totally stressing ... Sun, 19 May 2013 20:28:00 EST Birdie woes It has been a busy week, and it's flown by! We had frost and highs in the 40's monday and tuesday, and it was 85 yesterday! I told you, Mama Nature is bipolar and off her meds again.

My kids have had standardized testing all week. AJ didn't have to take any today so she's playing hookie. Cam's uber jeally. I may get him an early dismissal just to make his day. After his test is done, of course :)

I went to my back doc yesterday, and as expected, got a lecture about... Thu, 16 May 2013 10:05:06 EST Hi!! Hey there!

Well, don't praise me too much, the calories I saved by pushing away the cake, I more than made up for with nachos on sunday. Yeah, I did that.

I will chalk it up to the stress of finals coupled with having a whole 'nother family under my roof, coupled again with going out of town to help them pack the rest of their stuff. It's hard to eat well when you're on the road. Even harder when those you're helping insist on buying dinner (which was pizza). My face... Tue, 14 May 2013 00:02:44 EST Saturday! I'm officially finished with my spring semester =) Woo-hoo!!! Now it's just a matter of waiting for my final grades to be posted. I'm not worried about the math class (970 out 1000) or the real estate law class (986/1000)... its the civil litigation class. The prof has historically given unspecific instructions with the intent that we be creative when it comes to certain things, but last week when I was 'creative' and applied the rule, he only gave me half credit for the article I reviewe... Sat, 11 May 2013 07:19:50 EST Happy Tuesday! My interview went well. It is not for a job in the legal field, but just an office/cashier's position until I get out of school or find an internship. I have 20 years of experience in customer service and office administration through my restaurant job, so I am qualified, for sure. The problem may only be the issue of pay. They generally start their employees out an minimum wage, and I feel that my experience is worth more than minimum wage. Please don't misunderstand. I am not being co... Tue, 7 May 2013 15:34:19 EST Monday Hey there! Sorry for my absence (I am always apologizing). I'm trying to get ready for finals in 3 classes and I had a job interview today. We've settled into a good routine and food's going great! I'm officially back into the 180's again. I hope I can keep going down.

Hope everyone else is doing great!! Mon, 6 May 2013 15:16:30 EST :) Hi there! I'm finally settling into a routine. Everything is back in its place (except for the extra pantry items my SIL brought from her house) and we're all doing great! My niece has some allergies (the pollen is really bad here right now, and they've already been through all that down south) so she's kinda stuffy but other than that she's adjusting very well.

I have been on the run most of the day, every day, since last Tuesday. This is the longest stretch without a nap I've... Wed, 1 May 2013 07:08:13 EST Hi!! Hi there!

Well, it's Monday again, with all that that implies. Which means that I have 2 discussion posts to do, make another trip to the county courthouse to research yet another deed, and take another test. Thank God I had the foresightedness (read: TIME) to get all my algebra work and test done saturday and my other law class done friday.

My brother's family is settled into their quarters and making a new routine. It's so much fun having a 2 year old in the house a... Mon, 29 Apr 2013 08:37:20 EST Too good to last I knew it was too good to be true, or at least too good to last.

Yesterday was beautiful, I got all my writing and research assignments done by 8pm with a midnight deadline so I actually had time to do a couple of loads of clothes and clean up the house a little before bed. AND got to bed on time.

Today? Completely tore my house apart trying to clean out one tiny little closet. Ended up with rugs and comforters and quite literally 6 garbage bags of clothes sitting by ... Wed, 24 Apr 2013 00:02:05 EST A brand new week! Happy Monday :)

It's a beautiful day today, but only in the 40's. I wanted to have my coffee on the porch, but my dogs wouldn't let me, lol. They were looking at me like, 'Mom, it's cold, can I snuggle on the swing with you?' and Sadie (the 3-legged dog) just clambered up there beside me, Badger sat on my feet, and in less than 90 seconds I was muddy AND covered in dog hair. Yep, it's gonna be a good day, lol.
<img src=" Mon, 22 Apr 2013 08:44:12 EST Sunday!! Well, my DH has finally 'given birth' to the last of the barium cement that has been plaguing his poor intestinal system since Wednesday (those were his words, not mine, lol). He's been miserable for days and days. I can only imagine if he were still eating highly processed stuff with no bulk, and not drinking a lot of water. He'd be blocked up, but good.

I stayed up late and finished all my math assignments (and 2 for next week, bc I clicked on the wrong module and did 2 exerci... Sun, 21 Apr 2013 14:45:39 EST Sunny Saturday! The sun is shining, it is a balmy 60 degrees out at 11am, and I am STUCK INSIDE finishing my homework so so I can do housework.

I'm totally bummed.

But it's all for the cause... all for the cause. I've decided to attend part-time this summer instead of taking a full course load. In part, because I don't have enough money to pay the tuition for 12 hours, but also because I only have 6 classes left and if I take 4 this summer I will only have 2 this fall. I have the Pel... Sat, 20 Apr 2013 11:04:05 EST Friday :) Happy Friday!

I've already gone grocery shopping this morning and put everything away, I cleaned the house yesterday and Cam mowed the lawn (which is good, since we're under a severe thunderstorm warning until tomorrow). I'm trying to get everything done with school today so I can spend tomorrow and sunday getting my brother's family's quarters ready for next friday. I say 'quarters' when it's really only 2 rooms, lol.

My hormones are all out of whack and I've been hav... Fri, 19 Apr 2013 12:10:11 EST Barium cement I'm almost afraid to say it, but I think the scale is moving downward again... It showed a 2lb loss. I've been afraid to get back on it in case it was a fluke.

I took DH to the doctor for a barium x-ray today. Hopefully we'll find out whatever is causing him to choke on his food (and even water).

I finally dragged my dad to the VA hospital yesterday. He's 80 and never signed up for benefits. He's been driving 45 minutes to the doctor when the VA is like, 8 blocks awa... Wed, 17 Apr 2013 18:56:22 EST Prayers My heart hurts.

I don't understand why things happen the way they do, and I won't go into the philosophical bent I went into after Sandy Hook. All I'm going to say is that my heart is heavy and my prayers are with the survivors and with the families of all the victims, as well as the medical personnel taking care of all those poor souls. May God grant them all strength and healing and peace.
<... Tue, 16 Apr 2013 20:02:20 EST The search is over... Well, my truck-hunting days are officially over... we signed the papers on my husband's truck today. He stopped by a dealership after work yesterday and brought one home. I went in this morning with the full intention of haggling them down a couple thousand dollars, but I made the mistake of looking up the blue book value online first and realized that it was actually a really good deal in the first place. Still, I put my game face on and got them to cut the service contract price in half ... Sat, 13 Apr 2013 20:00:43 EST Happy weekend! It is a sunny 65 degrees today. It rained most of the morning, but cleared off this afternoon and it is GLORIOUS!!!

I mowed the front lawn with my reel mower (which I said I wouldn't do until after Cam mowed with the regular mower, because the first cutting is so rough and hard to do!). It looks much better. Also washed my bed linens and all the downstairs windows. I feel much better. I can't concentrate when things are dirty and cluttered.

I found out today that my... Fri, 12 Apr 2013 18:29:32 EST Not the best week. I am sorry about my absence. This week has been very dramatic.

I had to submit an incomplete assignment (which I have not done in my LIFE) because I couldn't find the documents I needed online for our state. It sucked.

Cam didn't turn in his makeup work and it's the end of the grading period so he has 3 grades below our agreed-upon low limit which allows him to continue to have privileges.

AJ's stressed out because it's almost the end of the school yea...
