ROBERTKC's SparkPeople Blog ROBERTKC's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community Day 7 - Push On Thru and Setting Some Goals Working Thru the Pain...

Yesterday and today have been more or less good days. Been a bit more active the last couple days, and even though I was having issues with the allergies and with my ankle, I managed to accomplish the things I wanted to do, such as mowing the lawn, and walking farther and longer before needing to stop. Suz has taken to parking further out in the parking lot when we go out shopping just to provide me with opportunities to work out. Some days, I do a... Tue, 8 Aug 2017 18:51:05 EST Day 4 - Rough Week Well, into day 4 of my renewed journey to weight loss, and the week definitely took a down turn. Diet-wise I'm managing to stay on track although my actual numbers still come in well below the recommended levels on Sparkpeople. For example - According to Sparkpeople, I should be eating 2000-2300 calories per day to lose 200+ pounds. The thing is, by the time I am at the 12-1400 level, I am already full and have no desire to eat.

So, eating that far fewer calories, is my body in ... Sat, 5 Aug 2017 11:31:19 EST Day One - The return Well, it is about 4 years since I was last on this site, which helped a great deal in my weight loss journey previously. So much has happened, more good than bad, that it's difficult to know where to begin.

I suppose the best place to start would be why am I back here on Sparkpeople. About 6 months ago, I was laid off from work (thru no fault of my own) due to a downturn in business. Now while I was informed at that time that I was eligible to be rehired, the environment has not... Mon, 31 Jul 2017 10:00:25 EST Day 20: Continued Progress... Well, roughly three weeks now, and I'm continuing to lose, so not going to complain. I will likely weigh myself tomorrow to get the most current reading, but as of a couple of days ago, I was down 23 pounds. I wouldn't object to being around the 30 pound mark when I weigh-in again, but will not be disappointed if there is only another pound or two gone--after all, it's already 23 pounds less than I did around Christmas.

Today I'll actually start doing some real exercise. I have ... Sat, 12 Jan 2013 11:34:47 EST Day 13: Steady as she goes... Well, it's now been two weeks (approximately) since I made the decision to achieve something with respect to may weight loss desires, and a bit less than that where I have made an effort in all areas to actually take it off and keep it off. Thus far, I've managed to lose 17 pounds.

More than anything, I think the success so far has been due more to portion control, as the opportunity for exercise has been hit and miss due to work, and then injuring my back while trying not to fall... Sat, 5 Jan 2013 17:54:49 EST Day Two - Christmas Day Today was the first of two "travel days" to Sioux Falls . As it is the holidays, we took today to go and visit with Jay. All in all, it was a good visit--very little (if any) stress related to the visit--as a matter of fact, if there was any stress it was more related to the travel time and staying awake than anything else.

Did not really exercise today, unless you count completely overhauling the computer lab, which included moving boxes around, moving furniture...regardless of... Tue, 25 Dec 2012 20:04:46 EST Day One - Reality Check Well, I know Suz said we can start this on Wednesday, but why put off any longer? Most of 2012 has been me putting off, and I only have myself to blame for that.

Shortly after I wrote my first entry for 2012, life took a major turn around - I ended up in a job I love, within the field I studied. More money, more challenges--life was great and things were turning around. Unfortunately, keeping track of things on Sparkpeople, exercising with any consistancy, etc. fell by the waysi... Mon, 24 Dec 2012 21:14:35 EST January 1st - New Year, New Beginnings Let's face it --- 2011 royally sucked.....

Don't get me wrong, there were some special moments during the year that did server to put a smile on my face, but as far as personally achievements, they were few and far between, and in many ways, there were more steps backwards than forwards.

My wife and I both graduated in 2011, but have not been able to locate work in our field--or any other field, so we've been doing PC repair and such out of our home. My little girl star... Sun, 1 Jan 2012 13:27:14 EST November 13 - Bit Off Track, but trying to keep going Well, my 90 day mark came and went, I am down only 46 lbs thus far on this program. My goal was to be closer to the 80 lb mark. I am a bit disappointed, but I did make some progress, so that counts for something.

To get back on track with the plan I had set up, I would need to lose approximately 70 lbs during this stage. In order to hit that goal, I'd be looking at losing almost 10 lbs per week (6 month goal date is 12-31-2011). A few years back I was able to do that, but realis... Sun, 13 Nov 2011 08:49:47 EST Going Extreme...DAY 5 Well--today is day 5 of my new approach to losing the weight. And so far, things seem to be clicking into place.

I've been on sparkpeople for almost 2 years, although last year I was less than consistent with keeping up on things, and as a result, my waistline started to expand again--not quite back to where it was, but definitely heading in the wrong direction.

One issue I have had with SP is that the "recommended calories" for me were unusually high (current weight is... Fri, 24 Jun 2011 12:33:59 EST Back Well, here I am again. LOL.

Actually, haven't been very far, just far too busy at times with homework and such. Into our final year of CST, which involves a lot of time learning the ins and outs of servers, routers, switches and the like.

Exercise has been on again/off again, but I am happy to say that there has not been any weight gain, which is good.

Just wanted to touch base for a moment and let everyone know I am alive and well, and will work on keeping... Fri, 8 Oct 2010 17:59:17 EST Accomplishments Summer is quickly coming to an end, and as I get ready to resume classes, I'm enjoying a moment to look back at some of the accomplishments of the past few months.

Suz and I have been walking more consistantly, outdoors originally, but now on the treadmills at the local rec center (no mosquitos there!). Counting the miles we've been putting on the treadmills, we're already over 100 miles walked this summer. Not too shabby for a big boy like me.

I set a personal goal of... Tue, 24 Aug 2010 09:37:26 EST August 8th - Weigh and Measure Did my measurements today...weight is holding at 308, so at least I'm not losing any ground in that respect. here are the rest of my numbers, although I probably should have done the measurements earlier in the day than when I did. I took these measurements around 3 pm, after I'd already eaten two meals, and have been consuming large amounts of water (due to the high temps this weekend).

Milestones:

weight:
June: 318
July: 310
August: 308

Wais... Sun, 8 Aug 2010 16:00:42 EST August 2nd Well, today is off to an early start, as my daughter was dropped off this morning. Its fun when she comes over, and although I wouldn't mind some more sleep (especially today), I suppose it is time to start getting back into the whole school sleep schedule routine. Suz and I start classes in 4 weeks, and Andrea begins in 3.

Started off the day with a 1.3 mile walk, and this time Andrea joined us, which was nice. Normally she doesn't care to, but I'm sure a lot of that is due to ... Mon, 2 Aug 2010 08:32:59 EST Happy Lammas Just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Lammas (Aug 1). For those not familiar with the day, Lammas is a pagan holiday which celebrates the harvest.

Lughnasadh
August 01, 2010
This holiday marks the first harvest of the year and is one of the "Greater Sabbats" in the religion. Lughnasadh is also known as Lammas Eve, Lady Day Eve or Feast of Bread. Sun, 1 Aug 2010 14:59:18 EST Making Progress (Impatience revisited) To a large extent, I think my impatiences has been due to not seeing the progress I've been making. You know--have a real good drop of weight, then hang there for a while, not seeing the change in body shape, etc. Add to that being emotionally all over the place due to finances and such, it can be difficult to keep positive and patient about anything.

Well, the wife was doing her measurements today, so I asked her if she would help me with mine. I haven't done them for a while--... Thu, 22 Jul 2010 11:11:26 EST Impatience Right now, just trying to fight off the impatience bug. I'm holding my own, and gaining some ground.

What am I impatient about?

1. Finding a job (have spent the most of summer searching for one)
2. Weight loss - Yes, I am losing...but injuries and how slowly it comes off can be irritating.
3. General stupidity (this is part of the human condition, and just something we all need to deal with) It just seems like the obvious answer is right there in front of ... Tue, 20 Jul 2010 10:15:02 EST The Big 70 Today brought a welcome sight.

Although when I look at myself, it is very difficult to see the results (perhaps I am too hard on myself sometimes), I managed to reach the half-way point of the first part of my weight-loss goals.

Been drinking more water, and due to some circumstances had to change my diet slightly. In spite of the obstacles, however, I am now down 70 lbs since starting on Sparkpeople. When I first started on SP, I was sitting at around 380-385, and I'm... Sun, 11 Jul 2010 16:49:54 EST Brief Update Well, let me see. Since my last posting (June 22), I did get in some walking--wife and I are pushing the 60 mile mark as we come up to the 1 month mark of serious walking. This also includes miles we've logged under the C25K program.

Hurt my knee, and not exactly sure how...happened during one of the last walks and my knee bent in a direction other than the one it was suppose to. As a result, i've backed off on the walking to give it time to heal, but have tried to do exercises ... Fri, 2 Jul 2010 09:43:42 EST Welcome Surprise Ya know....
The hardest part about staying with a diet is the fact it seems to take so damn long to see results. The desire is there, it just occassionally seems like the body has decided it has it's own agenda.

Who the hell does it think it is? I have a working mind, so why should the body get to call the shots! 101

Today, however, seemed to be a welcome surprise. In spite of injuries that slowed me down with respect to exercise, not to mention a real... Tue, 22 Jun 2010 16:50:03 EST Now is the time for all good men to rest....? When I lay down tonight and drift off to sleep, I'm gonna do so without guilt or regrets with respect to today.

I was up early this morning, and the wife and I went walking. I was a bit hesitant about trying to do the alternating walk-jog after hurting my leg yesterday. We were getting home from a C25K session and decided to finish with a jog up to the house. I was feeling ok, so sure..let's do it. As we got to the driveway and I made my turn into the parking lot, my left knee ... Sat, 19 Jun 2010 14:09:34 EST Real Good Workout today. Had a real good workout today. Will probably go one more week on the jogging before attempting week 2 of the C25K program, simply because I haven't had a consistant week yet. Been doing more walking than jogging--was averaging a mile a day, simply because of schedules and such. Today, pushed two miles and cut our time down by about 3 minutes per mile.

Today's workout:
2 mile walk : 33 minutes (about 16.5 minutes per mile walking, down from 20 minutes)
100 Pushups
... Sun, 13 Jun 2010 19:39:04 EST The First 50 If someone had told me last year that I'd be fifty + lbs lighter by this time, I would have said they were out of their gourd.

Having done numerous diets with on and off success has a tendency of leaving a person rather jaded after a while, it just can't be helped. After all, I had done diets such as Atkins and done the dietary supplement path (can you say Cal-Ban and Dexi-Trim just to name a couple). In each of those cases, the success was temporary, and the weight soon return... Tue, 8 Jun 2010 10:26:40 EST Getting There Well, the wife and I headed out this morning for Day 3 of the first week of cs5k, and I had every intention of jogging again today, but have been dealing with my legs hurting...not like a sprain or anything severe, but I suppose very tight and sore when I attempt to jog. I'm fine, or only have mild discomfort when walking, but today when I started to jog, it just hurt too damn much to try that.

Instead we finished the path we had selected (walking). I've already decided that mo... Sat, 5 Jun 2010 18:06:11 EST Day 2 - C25K Hey,

I managed to put day two of the C25K (week 1) program in the books--made it a bit further, in spite of issues breathing (bad allergy day for me), and feeling a bit sore.

The soreness was not too bad, just annoying and my take is that the soreness is going to be there for a bit until I work through it. I have a t-shirt that basically sums up my attitude right now...PAIN is WEAKNESS leaving the body. It just means I'll be that much stronger once I get to the other s... Wed, 2 Jun 2010 20:09:54 EST Rain or No Rain Well, as those of us in Eastern SD know, we're under a severe thunderstorm watch today, so quite obviously, my opportunities for outside exercising are severely limited. As a result, I've been working out inside today...using a "100 per day" philosophy right now.

100 Calf Raises
100 Pushups
100 Crunches

Later on, I'll likely be breaking out the Tae Bo DVD and working with that to get my Cardio in for the day, and there is of course the computer lab that needs ... Tue, 1 Jun 2010 14:21:44 EST I Did It! Boy, am I gonna feel this one...but in the long run, it might just be worth it.

Today was the first day of the Couch to 5 K program, and although towards the end there the walks got stretched out a bit, I was able to complete the recommended intervals (and yes, that does include the jogging side of things).

I tried picking what I thought would be a good route--long enough to get the time in, but not too overboard on distance. Well, the path we ended up on took us out ... Mon, 31 May 2010 17:20:33 EST Counting Down Well, tomorrow is the big one of week 1 on the C25k part of my exercise program.

I've done all the reading on the subject, and have been working on preparing myself mentally. I'm working on keeping the good ol PMA about everything, but would be lying if I said that I wasn't a little concerned about how my legs will respond. I'm not exactly in the same shape I was when I was running track and such.

That being said, there are those people who have started this ... Sun, 30 May 2010 22:12:25 EST Preparing to take the Plunge (C25k) Well, after much consideration, I've decided to take the plunge--into the C25K program.

I have spent almost a week in reviewing things with respect to this program, and I think that I am in a position to start things. For those who are not familiar with it, the name of the program/spark people group is called "Couch to 5 K". It is a 9 week (although you can go longer) program that aids those who have had a seditary lifestyle eventually get to the point where they can jog on a reg... Fri, 28 May 2010 10:35:12 EST Enthusiastic You know, there are times when enthusiasm is good, and other times it kicks you in the good ol' know what I mean.

Woke up yesterday, brimming with energy and enthusiasm--what did I do? Got right on to spark people while I ate breakfast and read the various blogs and articles, then started cleaning the house. Today will mark day two of that, as I just died yesterday. Suz and I spent a better part of the day working on that. I also worked on my car for a while.

... Sat, 22 May 2010 10:31:42 EST Carpe' Diem Losing weight is never easy--putting it on is, but taking it back off can be a real challenge. I'm still hovering well above where I want to be weight-wise, even though I've been doing the Sparkpeople program for a while.

That is no one's fault but my own. While I have been more conscious of what I eat, I have not exercised nearly as much as I could have in the past. Part of this is due to school work--making sure I take the time to do it, and the subject matter is challenging (... Tue, 18 May 2010 17:22:06 EST Two Days! I've got a streak going...LOL Isn't it amazing--two days in a row I've managed to post something here...LOL.

Been pretty well behaved today as far as the diet, and in spite of having issues with my leg/knee, I managed to take a walk with Suz today. Also finished repairing someone's computer, so to some degree it's been a productive day.

Still doing the job search thing.
Mon, 17 May 2010 19:03:27 EST Obviously, A Man of Few Words Quite obviously, based on when I made my last entry, I can be a man of few words.

For a change, the sun is out and the skies are sort of blue--temperature is warm-->its as if Spring has finally arrived to Eastern South Dakota.

Of late, I've had this mental battle going on. School and family are great, but really want to find some way of generating more income than what I have now. It's difficult at times to stay positive when the bills are there staring you in the face... Sun, 16 May 2010 10:53:37 EST I'm Growing to Hate Snow... I love my family.
I love my home.
But I am really....
really
really getting to hate snow.

We were suppose to start school yesterday (Second semester Cst), and got in school just long enough for our instructors to send us home. So, we came home, the wife worked out a bit (incorporated the Fat X 101 exercise program someone mentioned on one of our lists), and we relaxed in hopes of making class today, and perhaps getting out to exercise (we did walk laps ar... Thu, 7 Jan 2010 10:58:03 EST January 2nd - The Countdown Begins Well, just 4 days till the wife and I start classes, and 1 day until the Sparkpeople Bootcamp begins. I've signed up for it, with the intent of being more consistant with the workouts, plus adding some of my own in as well.

My goal is to literally be "Half" the man I currently am by the time I graduate (May of 2011), so this particular blog entry is going to serve as a "starting point" for the next phase of my weight loss. I don't have a scale available, so I am not certain if I... Sat, 2 Jan 2010 15:07:16 EST Kick Start... I didn't realize it had been so long since I posted a blog entry--of course, things have been quite busy on this end. The wife and I are taking classes in computer networking at the local vo-tech, and we made a major effort to push hard in the final weeks.

Diet-wise, we decided to add another twist to things. My weight shot up to higher than when I started with Sparkpeople in February, and I was naturally frustrated. Suz saw a diet on Dr. Oz and we opted to try it...and I ended ... Sun, 27 Dec 2009 18:14:57 EST Frustrated 101

Well, my eighteen year old daughter is in the hospital tonight--delivering her first child, so needless to say, it's going to be a looooong weekend as we await news on the birth of our Grandchild.

For my part, I am looking forward to being a grandfather, yet trying to deal with frustrations of my own. Some are related to school, others are related to my weight. At one point, I was following a routine almost religously with respect to sparkpeople. Then I... Sat, 7 Nov 2009 21:53:59 EST Goals.... Of late, I've been finding myself paying a lot more attention to the concept of goal setting. As a displaced worker, I qualified for a program in which the state will fund me going back to school. So, I am back in school studying Computers Systems Technology. Although there is computer repair involved, a great deal of the emphasis on the program is geared towards networking.

Being a creative, I had never thought about taking something in that area of computers, but here I am, an... Sat, 24 Oct 2009 11:41:34 EST Responsibility It seems like for ever since i've been at Sparkpeople, or have really done anything constructive towards losing weight -- not exercising, etc. and I don't really have any one to blame for that but myself.

It is not that I do not want to lose the weight. I think a great deal of it stems from the fact that I do not see the results as quickly as I think I should, considering the effort I was putting in. Change of diet and doing exercises that focus on the areas I really want to see... Sat, 17 Oct 2009 09:21:43 EST Climbing Back on the Wagon Just wanted to take a moment to say hello to everyone. I've been kind of quiet on this list for a while--this being due to school, a job I have left and a plethora of other things going on.

I'm back and ready to keep losing! Wed, 7 Oct 2009 20:30:42 EST Ok, to start over... Well, with respect to my eating, I've managed to keep things under control for the most part (very lil snacking, and what I did have were things I am allowed to have). The biggest issue I have been running into of late is the exercise.

Before, I was managing to do the Tae Bo and Walking with some consistancy. Of late, however, that has not been the case. I honestly can not remember the last time I took a walk or did Tae Bo. My thought right now is to try to get some Tae Bo in b... Mon, 29 Jun 2009 10:12:02 EST Slowly getting back on Track I'm probably out of my gourd. Woke up at 7 yesterday, spent 6 hours on the road doing the Marketing things for work, got home, took my daughter swimming until they closed the pool due to bad weather, then when things cleared up, we went to a double feature at the local drive in (Wolverine and Night at the Museum 2) home around 2:30 am and I'm already up. Ya know, after being up that long and stuff, it would be real nice if we actually burned the calories and lost some weight for our e... Thu, 18 Jun 2009 10:03:31 EST bouncing on the wagon Well, finding myself having to get back on track. Lately, I haven't been able to get my exercising in although I am glad to say that for the most part I have stayed on track with regards to eating (not going nuts with things I shouldn't eat).

I think a large part of it is due to the fact that I haven't been able to establish a routine since starting my job as a Marketer for the local Motel 6. The first couple weeks, I have been learning things behind the desk that I will need lat... Fri, 12 Jun 2009 10:06:35 EST Rough Around the Edges Today was just one of those days where you think to yourself, you really should have kept you a$$ in bed. Due to a situation at work, I ended up doing a split shift, the second part of which ended around 2:00-2:30, and I didn't get started on going to sleep until about 3:30...ended up waking up at 6 am, wide awake and "gotta run, gotta run, gotta run."

My wife stayed up until I got home, and with me until I started dozing off...and we both felt it this morning...right up to where ... Tue, 2 Jun 2009 18:45:18 EST Friday...again.....(sigh, it's about damn time) It has been a long week, and I'm looking forward to a weekend at home so that I can get caught up on exercising and my various projects that have needed doing and haven't gotten done.

As I previously mentioned, my wife (Hlinhildr) and I are starting a web design business from our home, and currently have two web sites to complete, plus I need to put together a presentation for Mitchell Tech (from which I graduated). As the school advertises that they are on the cutting edge of T... Fri, 22 May 2009 22:50:42 EST Life is good... Well, today has been a good day. My wife and I went on a field trip with my daughter, ended up with about 4 hours of walking time as we explored three historical spots around our town, including a prehistoric indian village.

Two days from now, we have a graduation.....

it's all good. Fri, 15 May 2009 21:53:30 EST Fluctuating.... It's utterly amazing how much time gets away from you. Due to the economy, I'm among the many that got laid off. Because I am collecting unemployment, I am currently required to do a job search each week, which I have been keeping up with diligently.

Unfortunately, with graduations, job searching and a variety of other issues going on right now, it is difficult to maintain any consistency with respect to my program. I am fortunate in that I have not gained back any weight, but m... Thu, 14 May 2009 18:13:45 EST Weekly Weigh-In: May 6, 2009 Well, this week has not been the best as far as getting my exercises in--there are some days I was scheduled to do Cardio, but didn't get it in as we've had graduation to plan for, my daughter being in the hospital for a week and several other such occurrences.

In spite of this, I ended up with some interesting measurements during my weekly weigh in/measurements.

Waist: start: 53.25 today: 54
Hips: start: 57.75 today: 57
Neck: start:... Wed, 6 May 2009 13:02:27 EST Better Late than never: Sweatsuit to swimsuit boot camp Well, I meant to do this earlier--as part of the Sparkpeople Sweatsuit to Swimsuit Boot Camp, we are suppose to post our weight and measures, so here goes:

current weight as of last weigh in was 340 (yes, dropped another 3 lbs)
Neck is down to 20.5 inches
Waist: 53.25 (drop of almost .25 inches)
Hips: 57.75 (drop of 1.25 inches)

Measurements were as of Thursday, April 25 Mon, 4 May 2009 23:35:32 EST I gonna feel this one. Well, I'm most definitely going to feel this one. My mother moved out of the apartment complex she was in due to the landlord committing a breach of contract. She found a new place, where the rent was cheaper, internet and utilities are covered, she has a pool ...just to name a few. Great, but we had to get her more or less moved out today, so most of my time was spent helping back boxes, pack a truck, and then distribute things between a storage unit, and her new place.

On the ...
