Kinda' shows me that this isn't a quick fix (I don't believe there are any) and it's a life-style, on-going process. I may sound a bit dumb, but after reaching the top level, it's just hit me that there is more and it doesn't end.

I've always noticed a few of the top level achievers also being at the top, month after month, on the points board? Mon, 10 Jun 2013 15:07:17 EST Welcome June http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5376987 June gives us the first official day of summer (the 21st, I believe?) and it's kind of a welcome sight as I'm excited to start riding my real bike (versus spinning every day!). Anyone else looking forward to enjoying the outdoors?

Exercise, of any form, is healthy, but I really believe getting out and enjoying the open air provides an added boast that can't be measured or quantified. It's just plain good to get out in nature, especially when you live the beautiful, Pacific Nort... Mon, 3 Jun 2013 16:20:13 EST Welcome to my world! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5372141 It finally happened, I had a younger me walk into my shop and he was just as arrogant and iritating as I imagine myself to have been 30 years ago. I so wanted to take him by the shoulders and shake some sense into him, but he, like I once was, is too full of himself to see the error of his ways. I waited, choose my attack carefully, then I gave him my sage advice.

"Don't get too full of yourself, son. I was once in your shoes, maybe even a bit better off, but it doesn't last for... Thu, 30 May 2013 02:58:15 EST Sad Day on Whidbey http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5369776 It's a sad day today after we lost a section of our beloved island to a landslide, then we lost our I-5 bridge to an accident, many of us look at our two modes of exit from this beautiful island paradise with a crooked eye. Deception Pass bridge, though awesome to behold would definitely not deliver any survivors if it were to collapse. Our other means of departure is via the ferry which now runs at a 90 minutes wait, following the I-5 collapse. Looks like I'll be staying on the island for... Mon, 27 May 2013 22:07:49 EST Celebrate Holland Happening!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5337433 I've lived here for 13 years and this is the first year I've participated in the local "Holland Happening" celebration. Though the dutch about me is my cheapness when having lunch with friends (i.e. going dutch, get it?) I'm enjoying the celebration and learning about my neighbors heritage. 'Kinda fun!! Sat, 27 Apr 2013 15:43:14 EST Yay, it is Spring!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5314263 So today the weather was great, I was great, customers were wonderful and that shiny, golden ball in the sky was bright and visible all day!! Thank you God!! Sun, 7 Apr 2013 03:21:13 EST Is it Spring yet? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5313848 Wow, we had a pretty mild winter, no snow to speak of (just a mile dusting which brought smiles, but not snow plows!) and consistent rain which meant mild temps, too. But the last week has felt like winter just got here? A weird year, to say the least. Sat, 6 Apr 2013 17:33:56 EST Happy Easter, welcome Spring!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5306937 Here's wishing a Happy Easter to all and hoping that you all have a wonderful spring! I live on Whidbey and happened to know a few people who survived the recent event of the hill falling apart and taking down homes, trees, the road, but no lives lost! Thank you, God!! Mon, 1 Apr 2013 01:38:23 EST A Rough Start to the Month http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5274860 Anyone else having a rough time with the change in weather (for those of you fortunate enough to have a change in your weather, hopefully for the better@!)? Ican't seem to get motivated, yet one week ago felt as if things were pretty positive? Could it be the March blahs? I hope not, but I'll let you know after the 15th (when the blah's officially vacate our lives?). Tue, 5 Mar 2013 20:13:54 EST It's March Already?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5272060 This'll be short, I can't believe we're in the third month of the year?? Wow, it's flying by. Mon, 4 Mar 2013 02:06:17 EST Spring yet? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5262258 Don't we all wish? I know it's only the end of February and I'm fortunate in that I live in a area where we had a mild winter, but I'm ready for this one to end. Anyone else ready for a change? Maybe it's because it's only been rain and cold (no snow this year) that it seems longer? I know I should count my blessings, but it does seem like it's time for a change, in the good way! Sun, 24 Feb 2013 15:33:07 EST Success!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5259074 I'm at 45 minutes on the Spinner bike (in a row) and going full bore with my work out routine, as set by a trainer/friend. Wow, this feels good for the first time in a long time. My weight isn't dropping as much as I'd like, but at my age, I'm losing inches and firming up. Feeling good and enjoying success! 334 Thu, 21 Feb 2013 17:42:44 EST Day 90 of my self challenge http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5249883 90 days I gave myself to stay away from any alcohol and all of my favorite sweets, while cutting way back on the red meat, too. Thu, 14 Feb 2013 02:24:17 EST Winter's not gone yet!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5246580 Here's wishing the best for all of you in the northeast and midwest with those two winter storms that have hit you hard!! Our prayers go out to you as we in the Pacific Northwest have had, thank God, a pretty mild winter! Mon, 11 Feb 2013 15:10:28 EST Almost time for Spring Training! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5242317 Anybody esle excited about the baseball season coming up, especially as far as the Seattle Mariners go? Seriously, why can't we be the A's of this next season? They were pegged for last by every breathing individual and they almost made it to the world series. Wow, we'd be extactic with just making th payoffs,...right? Oh well, there's always that glimmer of hope!! Tue, 18 Dec 2012 02:26:08 EST Eveyone in the Christmas spirit?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5161724 No? Well, it's our own fault if we're not. We're being bombarded with Christmas commercials, Hallmark's 24 hour Christmas movie marathon, Christmas specials everywhere we shop, and holiday lights where ever we look. So, what's the hold up?

Maybe, you, like me, need the spirit to come into your heart to be real and not all the lights or any of the hype is going to change that. So, I suggest you do as I did, take some quality quiet time, look into your heart and think about the ... Mon, 10 Dec 2012 03:26:49 EST The Blues Strikes Again http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5138965 Ever have one of those days when you just feel horrible and nothing brightens your day? Anybody with any wisdom that can help me outa' this funk is welcome to drop it on me! Thanks. Sun, 18 Nov 2012 02:43:26 EST Does anybody not understand the importance of voting? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5125690 I ask this rather dumb question as a Vietnam era veteran who lost friends and relatives in a war many of you might not even know about. It was a time when voting was something I couldn't wait to do, but, even though I was old enough to join the service and go overseas, I couldn't vote, nor could a lot of my friends who would never get back and get that opportunity.

Everytime I'm so priveleged to vote and know that we live and vote in a free country, with all our faults and problem... Tue, 6 Nov 2012 03:31:25 EST Anyone else dislike blogging? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5110745 I have to say that I'm becoming more and more adverse to blogging, just because I feel like such a putz writing to myself. I'm sure there are more of you out there, just like me who are not so great at sharing feelings and sharing failures (it seems like sharing success isn't so difficult, is it?). I've spent the last three months regressing and, for the life of me, I don't know why? I've put back on 12 pounds and I'm not progressing with my excercise routines. So, thankfully we've been i... Wed, 24 Oct 2012 04:59:01 EST How do we recover from a super set back? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5086039 I faced my worse set back in two years, having gained five pounds and not really knowing why (I do now!). Merely getting lazy and not working out for a week, then starting back at it slowly cost me in progress to the point of regress. I was frustrated and disappointed, then I became my old, analytical self and figured out the problem and the problem was/is me. So, I've overcome me and am back at full exercise routine with no meat and no snacks until I've reached goal one, the a treat until... Thu, 4 Oct 2012 02:15:14 EST Here comes winter, there goes the sun! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5071095 Wow, does anyone else forget how fortunate we are during these long summer days? I was thinking how nice it'd be once fall and winter returned, then the sun started setting earlier and earlier and now, already and so soon, I miss summer!! I really didn't think it'd hit me until late December or January, but we're not even out of September and I'm missing those late days, the walks by the beach at 7:00pm and it's still comfortable and nice, and especially the Mariner games where I'm not freez... Sun, 23 Sep 2012 03:31:16 EST Spark Coach Plaudits!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5050564 334 Just a quick note to say thanks to Spark for coming up with Spark Coach. It's lifted me over a six week plauteau and I'm feeling motivated, once again. Thanks you guys!! You always seem to come through when I need it. Sun, 9 Sep 2012 04:53:26 EST Go Spark Coach Program!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5030825 334 I am here again pushing Spark Coach, it's great and it really works for me. I've been at a six month plateau (seriously!) and couldn't budge from my weight and size. Now, three weeks after being a part of the Spark Coach program, I've lost a pound (I know, big deal!), but I've lost an inch on my waist and gained half an inch on my bicep/tricep area, plus I've gone up in weights and reps, feeling great!! Thanks Spark Coach, you work for me! Sat, 25 Aug 2012 18:42:20 EST Yay Spark Coach http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5022711 Today is the beginning of my second week of Spark Coach and I'm really enjoying it. I went ahead and signed up for the "paid" program as I found it worth it and working for me. I just encourage all of you to give it a try, it's a lot of help. Mon, 20 Aug 2012 02:28:24 EST Election time brings change,... really?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4991256 It's that wonderful time when we can excercise our right to vote, then wonder what difference it makes. Sorry for sounding synical, but my business is doing awful, as most of the small businesses in town and in the state (and in the country, for that matter!). But our politicians are spending millions upon millions for campaign ads telling us how the other guy sent jobs out of the country, or just didn't fulfill his promises. You know what guys, who cares. We can't pay taxes and are losin... Sun, 29 Jul 2012 04:48:27 EST A great day and a break through http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4969571 Wow, we had thunder and lightening today which after 12 years in the Pacific Northwest, I've never encountered. Too weird as I moved from Tucson, one of the nations more prolific thunder and lightening capitals. It was kind of fun and we had reportedly over 1,100 ligthening strikes. Wow, again.

And, I'm happy to report, 4 pounds lost after three months of stagnation. Wow, again. Sat, 14 Jul 2012 04:16:52 EST Last Anniversary Celebration http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4966517 I'm almost a month late in my two year anniversary of being a Sparkie. (That's funny because I was an electrician for almost 12 years and they called us Sparkies!) It was June 22, 2010 and I have to say that Spark's influence on my life and life choices has been a lot more than I would've ever guessed. All in a good way, too. Thank you Spark and thanks to all the Spark Family as it's your support and involvement in our lives that makes this possible and a success. Thu, 12 Jul 2012 00:58:24 EST Is Summer Finally Here?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4960061 One weird thing about living in the Pacific Northwest is that we don't really know what summer is really like. I say this as I lived in Arizona for almost 20 years and that place makes hell feel cool (Phoenix, more than Tucson, though neither is too comfortable in the summer months). I never cease to be amazed at how nice it is here and how so many of the locals "pray" for heat, then get really uncomfortable when it gets close to 90 (we're nowhere close to that yet!! Barely in the 70's so ... Sun, 8 Jul 2012 04:34:13 EST Long time no blog http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4949785 It's been awhile since I've been a blogging, but recent events have driven me back to blog central. I'm reading more and more about measured success and "I'm almost there" achievements; but I don't get it? How is maintaining a success? I've maintained my weight for almost three months and I feel like an abject failure! Why? Because I know that had I pushed myself and focused more on my goal, I wouldn't have been so lazy as to accept the mediocre, or maintain my status quo.

No,... Sun, 1 Jul 2012 03:38:19 EST Taking one day at a time http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4890593 After losing a close friend, I've had a hard week. But I'm doing all right by just taking each day as it comes and looking for the best in each day. I have come to see the good in so many things and people I had either overlooked or just disliked in the past. The anger and negativity is just not worth it! Mon, 21 May 2012 02:16:57 EST Living for the moment http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4884329 I just heard a friend of mine passed away suddenly. He was, as we so often hear, "the picture of health." He worked out three times weekly, rode his bicycle often and was one of those who would walk rather than find a closer parking space when we'd attend Mariner games. Then he had a heart attack and nobody was close to help him.

It's sad to lose anyone, but it's even more sad to know that people such as Andrew were working so hard and saving so desperately to have that "nest eg... Wed, 16 May 2012 14:42:28 EST Opening Day for the Mariners!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4835508 Wow, a sell-out on our first opening day and it was crazy! Yeah we lost (won tonight though!!), but it was a zoo!! Not sure I'll do that again as everyone was just too much over the edge for me. Love going to games and love the Mariners, but the tension was too much on opening day. Wow, again.

Sun, 15 Apr 2012 00:43:56 EST Getting well http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4814978 After two weeks of fighting pneumonia and double bronchitis (it's like two scoops of "dirt flavored" ice cream!), I'm beginning to feel almost human again. This is not anything I would wish on anyone else. The worst part is, I don't know how it happened, or when. It's a bit scary as it's hard to be more cautious and work towards prevention when something "just happens."

'Hope none of you experience what I've just been through. 'Not fun. Sun, 1 Apr 2012 13:06:05 EST Do we cheer at the Orca's return? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4807850 My neighboring businessman ran into my shop excited beyond belief this AM cheeriing loudly, "the orca's are back!" Wow, I didn't know they left? What's wrong with me?

Yes, the return of the orca's is a big deal here in the pacific northwest. I guess I've just been out of the loop. Welcome home, whales. Tue, 27 Mar 2012 19:02:03 EST Another cloudy Monday comes and goes http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4806631 I keep getting teased that spring has arrived; then Monday creeps around the corner from Sunday bringing it's gloomy skies and grey, choppy waters. This island usually has one side, north, south, east, or west where one can run to find sun breaks and glimpses of rays sneaking down from the heavens, but not this stormy monday. No, not today.

So, I lay my head down hoping for a reprieve tomorrow. Hoping against hope that the weatherman is wrong and the waters will stop pouring fro... Tue, 27 Mar 2012 01:40:38 EST Is it really spring? Finally? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4802163 40 Yes, i believe spring has finally arrived in the Pacific Northwest; though many of us are skeptical, it seems as if we're having two days of better than 50 degree weather!! Wow. Welcome the change. Sat, 24 Mar 2012 01:26:29 EST On the road to recovery, thanks to my Spark Family and their advice!! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4797033 Yea! I don't feel like the walking dead and I can see the light at the end of this tunnel (no, it's not an oncoming train, either!). Thanks especially to the suggestion for the Traditional MedicinalsBreathe Easy Tea, it worked great (still taking it!). Your support is greatly appreciated and you are all in my prayers daily. Tue, 20 Mar 2012 15:17:41 EST Diagnosis: not too good! http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4795861 Well, it's decided; I've got pneumonia and severe bronchitis. This after a great week? Oh well, guess it's time to get rest and quit trying to run three businesses all by myself? Diagnosis: too much stress and not enough living and loving life! Mon, 19 Mar 2012 22:15:59 EST Flu and cold season isn't past?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4792961 I'm sick, sick, sick and not liking it at all! Do we feed a fever and starve a cold or starve a fever and feed a cold? Great, I've got both. Sun, 18 Mar 2012 06:59:27 EST Trivia Nightmares http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4786663 OK, does anyone else hate the trivia questions as much as me?? I swear, the next time I miss 5 to get 3 right will be the end of my trivial pursuits (funny, right?). Seriously, I can't believe some of the answers as I look them up afterwards and they're wrong, or conjecture that can be argued either way. Who's doing this? And what's worse is there are Spark members getting 100%,... really? Wow, humbling doesn't come close to saying it. Wed, 14 Mar 2012 02:54:54 EST 2012 Already?? http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=4782501 Obviously, I haven't blogged in awhile. It just seemed mundane to me, so I sropped for a time to get my mind right. I have been reading a lot though, so I'm keeping up with the Spark family. You all are so supportive and encouraging; what a nice thing. I read so much awful about people in general, then I come on this site and 99.9% of you are wonderful human beings (Too bad about the .1% who aren't!)

So, speaking of the .1 percenters, stop being mean to those you don't know!! ...
