It's been a dismal 5 months that involved a lot of stress that I don't want to go into, but things are resolving themselves. It's been now about six days back on track with Spark People and I have already consistently lost 2 of the 8 pounds.

I am excited to get up every morning and work out, drink water, and track my calories. Wed, 17 May 2017 02:59:31 EST I am grateful for life examples of how not to be in life Today was a hard day. When you feel something is so right you can feel it in your soul. Then you realize no matter how hard you try to help some family members they just plan to continue on a destructive path and make everyone miserable in their wake. I don't ever want to be that way to where I cannot see how miserable I make loved ones completely miserable while they try so hard to make me Happy! I am grateful for this lesson in life. I only hope to spread joy and love, not misery. Life is a... Sun, 7 May 2017 02:51:22 EST Difficult Day Getting through a virus that is leaving me completely drained. I hope to be rid of this soon! Sun, 30 Apr 2017 02:25:16 EST Weight loss journey A few months ago, if I even looked at sweets I would gain weight. After countless hours of exercising, guzzling gallons of water, and measuring and logging my food, the greatest goal has been efficiency. I have literally mastered understanding my metabolism and exercising just enough every day to keep the weight coming off little by little every day. I've lost about 15 lbs so far and I am getting close to maintaining my weight. Where before starting I felt hopeless and stuck, now I feel a gre... Sat, 29 Apr 2017 04:17:52 EST Best thing today? I am happy to say I now wear more of what is in my closet, which makes me very happy. I am more interested in clothing for activities such as biking, hiking, exercising, gardening and snowshoeing in the mountains. It seemed it was stuck for a long time at a weight I did not want to be at. Well now, a few pounds lighter, I am coming to terms with that dreaded bathroom scale. I eat well, exercise, count calories, drink water, etc. I am maintaining here. I know that I could cut more calories and exercise like my pants are on fire, but I don't want to end up quitting and hating the fact I would be back on a losing streak.

I am h... I am slowly learning how to adjust my exercise and eating patterns. My greatest weakness is lack of sleeping. It's a bit of a decade or more nightmare dealing with insomnia. I hope to get my health and fitness at optimum levels and chipping away at a better night sleep. I am doing everything in my power to sleep well. I've stopped playing computer games, less time on the computer, no pop, no junk food, no alcohol, no coffee, no... Tue, 4 Apr 2017 01:23:03 EST Support I think most family members and friends are supportive of my efforts to exercise and change my diet to improve my health. They have seen me gain a lot of weight recently and I have explained that I have to do both in order to meet my goals. I am taking a completely different approach to my activity using my fitbit hr in which I do at least 250 steps per hour of fast walking, plus my regular walking to do errands and chores. The progress has been good and so far every day I do 10000 steps. My g... Sat, 25 Mar 2017 02:10:05 EST My Partner my Life I feel blessed to have such a great husband and fitness partner. We try to do everything together. Lift weights, bike, hike, walk, snowshoe, etc. It has always been that way since we met in 2006. It isn't to say we don't exercise alone or in other groups, but when our schedules allow we enjoy each other's company. The latest change is more focus on our diets. My husband wasn't always keen on lowering fats and sugars in our meals but since he is seeing my results he doesn't want to be left in ... Fri, 24 Mar 2017 00:10:55 EST Some change ups with Spark Coach I have tried several Spark Coach lessons. One was to make your workout fun (like a child) so I ran around the house and played with my dogs and cats for about 1/2 hour. They loved it.

Another was to find an object that equaled the weight I lost. I decided to use a 10lb weight (that's what I have lost so far). It felt really weird to pick up that weight and realize that is no longer part of my body. It seemed heavier than 10 pounds.

Another lesson asked that I ti... Wed, 22 Mar 2017 17:47:46 EST Fit Bit HR I recently upgraded to the Fit Bit HR. I thought to buy a used Fit Bit from a friend to see if I actually liked it vs. the regular zip Fit Bit. It takes a bit of getting used to it and I have found that I am not allergic to the wrist band. A number of folks have complained about this.

As I am discovering my New Fit Bit HR, my favorite new use is the tracking of 250 steps per hour. I think being a bit older (55) this is a reasonable expectation to move 250 steps per hour. I l... Mon, 20 Mar 2017 20:28:38 EST KISS Keep It Simple Stupid!

If your exercise program becomes too demanding, ease back or change your battle plan. I was over working my workout routine a few months ago and it became too much when the holidays came around I ended up quitting my exercise program. While goals can be rewarding in achieving them they can become overbearing and time consuming within a day and other life events. It was actually starting to stress me out a bit. I am learning to bend and go with the flow. ... Mon, 27 Feb 2017 18:03:51 EST Tracking food starts today. Quite simply I am maintaining my weight. Now I need to take the next step and track calories. I started my plan simply to just start exercising consistently for about 1 month without tracking food. The additional exercise stopped me from gaining about 2 pounds per month! I gained 12 pounds since March! So now, after 1 month I've stopped gaining and am now going to start to try to track my food intake as much as possible.

I decided to do this so that I would not get overwhelme... Sun, 11 Oct 2015 14:26:32 EST Low Spot Last couple of days I am in a low spot, due to a cold. Normally, I quit exercising all together for days, then weeks, and then months. I am exercising now, but just enough to call it exercising. I normally exercise straight through at least 1 hour non-stop. Today, I had to take several breaks and sit down during each mile of working out. Feel old!!

I keep hoping tomorrow is better. Feeling sick leads me to the blues, then I feel fat and out of shape. Then I quit. Such a vi... Thu, 8 Oct 2015 00:38:07 EST Exercised daily for 3 weeks Things I am doing:

1. Mix it up. Sometimes I work out to walk DVDs all at once or I break it up. I walk in the yard while waiting for the dogs to go to the bathroom. I take more breaks from the computer. I go for daily walks outside when the weather is nice.

2. My attitude is more relaxed. I have stopped challenging myself to push myself too hard. Minimal exercise is better than no exercise. But, if I feel up to the challenge at any given moment I do push mysel... Sun, 4 Oct 2015 13:44:20 EST TODAY I did it. Well I did it TODAY! I challenged myself and won. I worked out to and entire walking workout DVD by Leslie Sansone. Normally, I stop after 6000 steps but I just kept going until I reached 12,000 steps and finished the DVD! I could not believe it!

The day started off bad and I literally woke up on the wrong side of the bed. I basically did not accomplish squat today that I originally set out to do. With that in mind, I got up from my computer and went to work out. I felt... Thu, 1 Oct 2015 18:59:00 EST Progress! Well, so far I have worked out every day except 1 day since November 4th, I have done at least 6000 steps with aerobic walking indoors (too cold out). Today I added strength training with easy 5lb weights for 30 minutes. I am also drinking my 8 glasses of water a day.

While I don't feel my energy level has increased dramatically, I can say that the following ailments either no longer exist or have decreased dramatically:

headaches (gone)!!!
lower back pain (sig... Tue, 2 Dec 2014 20:41:51 EST Things are definitely getting better! (with working out every day)! Great Day!

After 1 week of working out every day, things are definitely improving. As a tribute to my father who recently passed away from Parkinson's, I am dedicated towards moving. I mourned his death for months, and still do, but I spent 10 months helping my Mom move from Chicago to Seattle, preparing the funeral, preparing the house for sale, packing, closing on the old house, finding a new house, closing on the new house, repairing and renovation of the new house, moving... Sat, 15 Nov 2014 21:05:24 EST Today was bad I hope tomorrow is better Geesh what a bad day! It started off at 1 am when I couldn't go back to sleep. Then I turned into zombie awake all night! Morning hours I just sat in front of my computer not wanting to move except for coffee. Then I was greeted by my really bad attitude and accomplished a big fat zero for the day, except working out. I managed to eat poorly but at least I did not over eat.

Later, I worked out for about 1 hour and did start to feel better. Amazing how that happens. I sort of wiped... Thu, 6 Nov 2014 01:14:38 EST Life 10 Months later after last Blog...Life has changed! January 3rd was my parents 62nd wedding anniversary. January 5th dad was admitted to the hospital, January 16th he died. I fell apart, literally. I was the last family member to be with him and told him I loved him forever and told him I promised to take care of Mom. I promised myself to allow myself to grieve until his birthday which was November 2nd. And I did, my way. Not a good way, but you do what you have to do. I did not exercise at all and did not care to. I exercised today an... Tue, 4 Nov 2014 21:21:07 EST So Sad I just can't exercise today, or yesterday. My Dad's sick in the hospital in ICU, and I have been on the phone all day with my relatives, which was good, but I am feeling a bit numb and SAD and just can't bring myself to actually exercise. Today, is a good computer day.

This is life, sometimes you just have to put other obligations aside. It's not an excuse, it's just reality.

I am 2500 miles away from my parent's home and there's a major winter freeze there which ... Mon, 6 Jan 2014 21:18:03 EST Pep Talk #2 Dear Me,

You are making good strides in changing not only the fact you are exercising, but also your mindset. Yesterday, you planned an exciting off road biking adventure with your husband and he loved it and so did you. Take advantage of your backyard of the Pacific Northwest and plan simple inexpensive adventures on bikes, hikes, or snowshoes. There is no excuse not to. Make some plans for this weekend and find something to do outside for a few hours. Get out of your rut, ev... Thu, 2 Jan 2014 13:05:00 EST Pep Talk to Myself! Dear Me,

Things are going great!

You are making it a daily habit to log onto Sparkpeople. You are exercising before noon which is a complete miracle for you. What is really amazing is that you are balancing your nutrition and calories with food that does not appear to be rabbit diet food, which you were guilty of in the past. You are allowing your self a smaller sized dessert portion so that you are not missing out. The trick is not to let your husband serve you an... Tue, 31 Dec 2013 11:37:01 EST Writing a Letter to Myself Dear Me,

You've done pretty good over the past few months not doing Sparkpeople. You did not gain a lot of weight (5 lbs) and you managed to be physically active without completely giving up. That's good! It's better than you have done previously, so that's a step in the right direction!

So now the plan is to possibly join a YMCA near by to help build and maintain a healthy lifestyle within the community. That would be very cool!

Work on drinking more ... Mon, 30 Dec 2013 00:15:02 EST Intuitive Eating I do this normally. I will add more info. later.

Well, I am back to report on intuitive eating from yesterday. I did well. I only ate when hungry. I ate breakfast late (cereal & milk). Decided then to make lunch dinner instead. I ate out with my husband at IHOP. I love that place, but for the first time I looked at the calories per meal, and nearly fainted. I had a low cal meal of chicken with balsamic vingar dressing, a small salad, and broccoli and walked away completely ... Drinking water for me is not a big deal. I carry a blue water bottle where ever I go. A lot of times I drink more water than the required 8 glasses. I just don't have much to say about drinking water who would? Fri, 28 Jun 2013 09:28:15 EST Getting Better! Today, I noticed I am finally getting stronger, it's like my old body has risen from a forgotten grave!!! It's been years, but I can do pushups, mount climbers, jumping jacks, situps and jog. I am not pushing myself too hard, actually going so lightly that I don't injure myself. But while I am doing aerobics, I kick it up a notch for a minute or two, with the plan to go at least 3 - 4 minutes for interval training.

I am doing excellent planning meals and have strategies that al... Thu, 20 Jun 2013 00:55:13 EST Just keep moving! Being consistant is somewhat foreign to me, it's something I don't like to do since I tend to get bored easily. The trick is no two days are a like. I do not do the same thing every day, and I think it's part of my reasoning that the only way for consistancy is to do novel things.

I have a been collecting DVDs I bought off of Ebay for next to nothing, that I use along with exercising on YouTube, there's always something NEW to DO!

I love having the FitBit and my ... Tue, 18 Jun 2013 11:25:03 EST 30 Days Does Make a Difference! I have exercised and tracked calories just over 30 days, boy do I notice a difference! I have completely cut sugar to a record low and sweetners (aspertame) out of my life and drink water like a camel. I've invested my time and money into purchasing a library of exercise DVDs, hand weights, yoga mats, stretchy bands, exercise balls and shoes. My life is not my own, and I am busy trying to help out with the house, and my mother and father. I am doing Sparkpeople, but barely, and working out is tough.

I barely get my 6000 steps in per day, and normally do this in the am, but my mom had me busy up until dinner, then I finally got a chance to rest, and now work out late at night. I do, especially when it involves chocolate cake, brownies, chocolate chips and ICECREAM!!!!!

It was a round table set up and all the desserts looked equally delicious! In my dream, I didn't want to have to choose, so after a lot of contemplation I finally decided on the brownies.
