But, my fellow sparkers, it's been a LOOOONNNNNGGG week and my TGIFing is in full effect. Worked from home again today and this work blindness has to break sometime. Around 2:30pm I remembered I needed to eat something before leaving for my 4pm meeting. With breakfast skipped and lunch non-existent, I thought to take the quickie route and grab a chicken/chickpea rice bowl from the halal cart - Five dollars... Fri, 20 Sep 2013 20:59:58 EST BLC 23 - Streaking - Day 2 Takeout Free For the last few months, I've toyed with the idea of limiting / eliminating the various meat in my diet. Some days, it's easier than others.

Today, I worked from home. While this sounds like the perfect situation for healthy eating, I generally find it quite difficult. Mainly because I roll out of bed, prop myself up at my desk and get to work. Some days I look up at 3pm and wonder "why am I so hungry?" Oh yeah, I FORGOT TO EAT! *blerg*

Even though I was out of m... Thu, 19 Sep 2013 20:03:47 EST BLC23 Pre-Gaming - Let's Get Groovy! So I'm just a bundle of anticipation - BLC 23 kicks off next week. Woo-to-the-hoo! Let's Go Geckos! This time last year, I discovered BLC 20 and the rest as they say was history. With the support of the Scarlet Starlets I dropped 15lbs in 12 weeks and kept it off for almost a year! Now I'm ready to tackle the next 15lbs for BLC23.

I love this challenge and the amazing spark friends who join me on this journey.

For this round, my focus is on eating well. By thi... Wed, 18 Sep 2013 20:04:56 EST Dear Mini-Ree. It's all good. Love, Future Ree Dear Mini-Ree,

Greetings from 2013! Good news – everything turns out okay. Right now life seems pretty bleak. Most of the folks at your high school will barely graduate, much less go to college. No worries for you on that score. Just keep doing what you’re doing – study hard, focus on your goals, and remember you’ll eventually be out from under your parents’ thumbs. Despite their restrictions, they only want what’s best for you. Plus, you’ll soon be free and independent (t... Wed, 30 Jan 2013 01:25:13 EST Set it and forget it! Have you ever really looked at a whole, raw chicken? You can so easily imagine it scurrying around the farmyard. If you look closely at the skin, you can even see where the feathers have been plucked out (some even have feather remnants! Eeep!) It's always felt a bit too real. A few months ago, I read about how much money you could save cooking a whole chicken once a week vs buying the different parts for individual meals. The information made sense, but when I looked at the whole chicke... Thu, 17 Jan 2013 23:48:24 EST Dear Extra Pounds, We need to talk! Dear excess pounds, it's been fun. Over the years we've had some highs and lows. Do you remember that AMAZING buffet with the sweet potato rolls and honey butter? Or our 3am trips to the diner for the lumberjack special? And let's not forget the time we enjoyed half a coconut cake in one sitting? Oh, the memories. Yet, there have been difficult times as well. We've broken up and somehow made up far too many times for my comfort. (There's only so much grapefruit juice a girl can stand... Wed, 16 Jan 2013 09:41:07 EST Twas the night before BLC-21... And all through the house, Little Ree was stirring and dashing about! I can't believe BLC-21 kicks off bright and early tomorrow morning with the first weigh-in. Last round was such a success for me, that I admit to a slight nervousness this round. Will I be able to keep the momentum going to meet my 160lb target? Over the holidays, exercise was low man on my holiday totem pole. I also stopped tracking my food. On the plus side, I'm a few pounds lower than my ending weight for BLC-20... Tue, 15 Jan 2013 18:17:02 EST BLC 20 – 6.4 Show and Tell, The 6-Week Results Episode (Part I) I sometimes find just the thought of blogging a bit overwhelming. My mind whirs with fears, joys, expectations and the like. How could my fingers possibly keep up my speed of thought? What will the world have to say in judgment or is it worse if they don’t have anything to say at all? Shake it off, Ree. You’ve got a challenge to participate in and this week’s Mid Challenge Slump edition requires some reflection and goal adjustment.

Some six weeks have passed since we started o... Some of the questions are truly thought provoking. As this BLC challenge progresses, I will periodically answer a few of these questions to keep things spicy. Fri, 28 Sep 2012 20:26:45 EST BLC 20 - 1.6 Wheeeeeeeeeeeel Pose! Here on SparkPeople I read so many inspiring posts on non-scale victories! And today, it thrills me to share on of my own.

On day 14 of my 30 Day yoga challenge, I proceeded to my evening yoga class. Since its a holiday, the class was quieter than normal. Whenever this happens, our teacher gets giddy because she can 'take us to the wall.' Wall classes means inversions. In my world, inversions is code for give up and lie in child's pose until its over. *insert shameface here* ... Sun, 16 Sep 2012 20:17:52 EST BLC 20 - 1.2 Emotional Funk Relief Tricky Thursday - BLC #20 - Week 1, Day 2
Why do you exercise? Do you ever wonder if all that working out is working for you?
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Why do I exercise? Well, right now, it's because I made a commitment. 30 days of daily yoga. For some reason, today really tested me. The morning started off great - popped into work early, knocked out a few assignments, renewed my passport, and powered through my inbox. Yet somewhere around midday, my emotions t... Thu, 13 Sep 2012 21:17:06 EST BLC 20 - 1.1 - Reflection Day Reflection Wednesday - BLC #20 - Week 1, Day 1
This past week has been tough. Every single day, my total calories far exceeded my expected range. Even with daily exercise (75-90min of yoga), it is clear that I have been overeating by quite a bit. So here come the excuses - Friends in town, attended a wedding, hanging out with new friends, and eating late at night. Yet, most of all, these past two weeks have seen increasing weight gain due to lack of planning on my part. For the mont... Wed, 12 Sep 2012 21:15:32 EST Who says yoga isn't a workout?!? I'm currently in recovery mode. I'm on Day 6 of my 30-Day Yoga Challenge. And I think I've been fooling myself this past month as to how much I've been working out.

Last month, I started taking yoga again - attending the 90-minute Basics class 3-4x per week. When I decided to set my challenge, I planned on becoming a regular during this same class. We are moving constantly through the class - shifting our bodies with our breath. My sweat soaked towels after every class led me... Fri, 7 Sep 2012 21:55:07 EST BLC 20 - 12 Week Goals I am super excited about the upcoming Biggest Loser Challenge #20!!! Though I've never watched the show, I love the idea of a competition. I know it will be a lot of work and I'm looking forward to the challenge!

Over the next twelve weeks, I'd like to accomplish the following goals:
- Average a 1.5lb loss / week (18lbs lost), hit the 160s
- Exercise - Yoga, Dance Class, or Strength Training - minimum of 5x / week
- Nutrition - Tracking my food 5-7days / week and... Wed, 5 Sep 2012 21:37:12 EST Week 4 - Today was a good day! Another weigh-in day. This time - happiness!!! I'm down about 3.6 lbs since last week and 6lbs down overall. After a unpleasant weigh-in last Sunday, I decided to take a different approach this week. First up, I decided to exercise more. One of my favorite yoga studios is about two blocks away from me and I still had a few classes left on a card I purchased earlier this year. Since they were expiring soon, I decided to use up all four classes in a single week. What a joy! I had forgo... Sun, 26 Aug 2012 23:31:33 EST Fraud Alert I'm in a bit of a mood today. I intended to write a completely different blog - even started typing up a few super-optimistic sentences. Yet, I couldn't go through with it. You see, I feel like a bit of a fraud today. Sundays around here are weigh-in days. And the thing that keeps digging at me is my purposeful manipulation of my morning to ensure a loss showed on the scale. *sigh*

My normal routine is to pop out of bed, take a quick visit to the facilities, then toss off th... Sun, 19 Aug 2012 16:47:25 EST Calorie Tracker Shows No Mercy If the Spark People Nutrition tracker were a Muppet character, it would so be one of those old guys that sits in the theater laughing and judging the passerby. *lol* Today was a tough one. I feel judged.

At work, we have something called Diversity Day. It's the one day per year when everyone brings in foods from their culture. Naturally, everyone brings dessert. I'm talking a serious spread here - homemade Oreo cookie truffles (be still my heart), rum cake, german chocolate c... Tue, 14 Aug 2012 23:38:01 EST Week 2 - Summertime, and the Living is Easy Today was weigh-in day!!! Let's go team :-) Since last week, I'm up .6lbs and I know why! I enjoyed my meals Friday night and all-day Saturday in several different AMAZING restaurants. I have no doubt the amount of sodium led to major water retention. Plus, TOM arrives in a few days and my weight always shoots up 2-3lbs beforehand. Since my clothes are fitting better compared to two weeks ago, I refuse to let my excitement be dimmed by a number on a scale.

Goal wise - I s... Sun, 12 Aug 2012 21:50:49 EST Tracking Averts Cookie Crisis! You may not know this, but I'm an avid blog reader. My Google RSS feed is chock full of links to interesting blogs across a range of topics - including foods! On a daily basis, I tag yummy looking recipes for later.

Tonight, I decided to page through my starred items to find some new meals for the next few days. Mixed in were of course some delicious looking desserts - one that caught my eye was the "Quick and Healthy Chocolate Chip Cookies." (COOKIES!!! Nom, nom, nom!) It di... Thu, 9 Aug 2012 22:41:13 EST Today in Food That's the name of food diary. Today I chose to track my food and I think I did fairly well overall. However, I realized that I'm highly susceptible to suggestion. One of my coworkers offered me a packet of Swedish Fish and I barely blinked before accepting (did I ever mention that gummy candy is the song my heart would sing?!)

It wasn't until about an hour later that I remembered I had to record this in my diary. Given how often food is trafficked in our offices, this could p... Tue, 7 Aug 2012 00:17:37 EST Goal for Week 2 - Track 4 / 7 days Today marks the first day of my second week on Spark People! 244

Right now, I'm sitting at my desk debating whether to start dinner now or wait until I finish my work for tomorrow. I think dinner now might be better. If I wait, I have a feeling whatever I end up eating will not be the best of choices.

Today was quite the lazy day. Though I did get up early, I only dawdled about my apartment - reading my kindle, straightening up, washing my hair, reading ... Sun, 5 Aug 2012 19:23:41 EST Wk 1 Recap - On the merry go round... I'm trying to take this whole healthy living thing day by day. It's hard. I believe we all start out with the best of intentions. Our morning mantra goes a little something like this - "Today I will eat healthy, exercise, and take some personal time." Then life happens. I've taken a spin on this merry go round before (haven't we all?) If you stay on it too long, you end up as THAT dizzy and nauseous kid curled up in a corner on the playground crying for mommy. WAAHHH! (Okay, that was ... Sat, 4 Aug 2012 14:17:32 EST Meditative Start to the Day To kick off my morning, I biked to a local yoga studio to take a meditation class - my first one. Surprisingly, I rather enjoyed it. Turns out its a donation-based class and I was the only student today. I wasn't sure what to expect. The teacher had me sit down in a cross-legged position and close my eyes. We passed about 10 minutes talking about meditation, its purpose, and general tips / practices. Then he put on the timer, I closed my eyes and tried to stay present. Its amazing how... Tue, 31 Jul 2012 18:22:03 EST Great Workout Planning Idea Over the last few months, I've been in the "Contemplation" stage of my healthy journey. I've read lots of blogs, researched exercise ideas, and borrowed quite a few diet books to my Kindle. In short, I've done everything but take action *smile* So I joined Spark People to track my ACTIONS. Yay!

Yesterday, I stumbled across a cool idea on a fitness blog. This woman, like me, gets bored easily and doesn't have a ton of time to work out. So she took a stack of index cards, wrote ... Mon, 30 Jul 2012 20:50:16 EST A good day for cycling Today was a pretty good day. Met some friends for dim sum in Chinatown and I'm super proud that I managed to eat just enough to satisfy my hunger. Normally, I feel quite stuffed after a group meal like this. This time around the servers didn't come by with their carts as quickly as in the past, so there was less food on the table. Plus, I drank a TON of the good stuff - H20, so refreshing and delicious.

Given the nice weather and the close location, I opted to bicycle to the... Sun, 29 Jul 2012 20:38:07 EST
