Wed, 13 Dec 2017 23:39:45 EST Not losing, but Not Gaining and that is a Plus It's an incredibly busy time of year. I actually got Christmas cards out this year. Not to everyone on my list but I've made a huge dent! Wed, 13 Dec 2017 21:07:53 EST My New Lifestyle Doesn't Include Sugary Treats, Time to Make Adult Decisions Yesterday at a baby shower I didn't eat any cheesecake or other sugary desserts after our meal. My friend did, and later she told me she wished she hadn't because she felt, "Ugh!"

I really wanted a slice of cheesecake but realized at that point, the way I felt, was great having not caved for cheesecake, compared to "groggy" and "ill", the way she felt.

She was heading to exercise class after the shower. I was meeting another friend for flower arranging class. I'm glad ... Wed, 6 Dec 2017 07:28:17 EST Frittata: A Rainbow of Color

Sunday morning I made a frittata with 1 whole egg and the rest egg whites but no cheese plus a bunch of veggies I had on hand. Salad peppers (red and orange) and broccoli from a veggie tray, summer squash/zucchini, cilantro, and yellow Sunburst tomatoes.

It was really good. I put Ghost Pepper Salsa from Tolmachoff Farms on mine. I had to add some milder salsa to that because, I g... Mon, 27 Nov 2017 02:39:48 EST A No Dessert Thanksgiving I didn't do too badly yesterday. I'm sure the scale will be up from Wednesday morning. I ate a healthy breakfast at home. I sautéd a jalapeño pepper, mushrooms, onions. I added egg whites. On the side I included Cherub tomatoes called Sunbursts. I also had a banana. Then I went on a 2 hour bike ride.

Then off to Cave Creek for dinner. The turkey was delicious. What do you expect from Butterball? I had stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, and homemade cranberries... Fri, 24 Nov 2017 07:49:03 EST Bad News, Good News Ok, the bad news first. I had a login streak going that I was proud of. 205 days. However, yesterday, for some odd reason I forgot to login. I have been super busy with teaching, conferences, after school duties, a weekend class, a weekend school event, and Thanksgiving projects. I guess it just caught up with me.

Back to the drawing board.

The good news is we have a day off today so I rode my bike 3 hours. Great weather here.

More good news: My scale is... Wed, 22 Nov 2017 17:41:38 EST David Cassidy Why am I lying here posting comments on SP and now writing this blog for 3 points when I should be carrying in groceries?

David Cassidy passed away. I used to watch the Partridge Family. He was soooo cute. May he rest in peace.

Ok, I'm going to press "Post Blog Entry" and go tackle groceries.

Mon, 20 Nov 2017 22:46:08 EST Arizona Falls Bike Ride: Photos

South of Camelback Mountain is this little park I would never have known about except for an instructor at a workshop. Sun, 19 Nov 2017 10:01:08 EST 2Hour Bike Ride Sunday I didn't want to do exercise videos. I didn't have time for a good hike and knew that would wear me out. I wanted to drive somewhere and try a different bike trail but didn't want to spend the time driving to and from. So, I started out from home and rode for 2 hours. Once I get on it's hard to stop but I finally said to myself, "You need to turn around. You have to grade and post grades."

I started biking when it was still chilly. I layered with a t-shirt, flannel shirt, and fl... Mon, 13 Nov 2017 08:22:04 EST Early Morning Bike Ride I got on my bike by 6:09. It was dark. About 3/4 of a mile in, the sun began to rise. Roosters were crowing all over the place. I rode for 4 miles. I thought I'd do two. Then I was up to three and thought, "What the heck. I'll do four." At one point somewhere sirens were blaring for a while. I always make the sign of the cross for the first responders and those in need of their help. Sat, 11 Nov 2017 08:52:05 EST All About Me with a Hectic Schedule Thrown in! Somehow I am busier than ever during a work week and weekend where I should be limiting my activity and focusing on grading and posting grades. If all of the things I'm doing this week were next weekend, that would work out better for me. But I will do my best with the hectic pace as I squeeze in grading and preparation for conferences next week.

We had a field trip to a farm Tuesday. I'll include a photo I posted on the community feed earlier this week. (See below) I supervise ... Fri, 10 Nov 2017 18:15:23 EST My New Motto: Don't Worry, Be Grateful At lunch yesterday I splurged at Panda Express. I did go 75 calories over my high range of 1500 for my day's total, but it was worth it. I did get the veggies for a side.

I also got a fortune that read, "Your gratitude will become your biggest ally this week." I decided to be more grateful. I would try my hardest to transform my worries into reminders to be thankful!

Last night I read a blog that reminded me to be more grateful. That fit right in with my plan.
... Wed, 1 Nov 2017 08:24:16 EST Variety is the Spice of a New Lifestyle This morning I read a blog that made me think about the fact that I like to change things up to a degree on this lifestyle change I've been on with SparkPeople since 2009.

If I don't find a way to make it interesting I fall back into bad habits. I don't ever want to do that again.

The SP blogger said she had skydived recently and would be doing yoga with goats nearby. Now, I call that adding some variety to spice things up.

While I haven't done anything as... Tue, 31 Oct 2017 09:25:00 EST Veggies, Fruits, and My Marble Jar: Week 3 of 5% Challenge
One evening I roasted veggies. I like roasted veggies. I normally eat them raw in huge salads or roasted. Sometimes in eggs, the crockpot with chicken or beef, steamed, or mixed in with other food. I'll stick spinach and/or kale in a fruit smoothie. I bought a spiralizer I haven't opened the package yet but can't wait to use it.

<img src=" Sat, 28 Oct 2017 08:23:38 EST Photos: Weekend Hike, My marble jar, and Mini Watermelon

I had a day off work Friday so I rode my bike and ran a bunch of errands. Sat, 14 Oct 2017 18:04:20 EST A Thought and a Prayer If I lose approximately 5 pounds I will weigh the same as I did at 9 months pregnant! And I'm happy that is the case, no matter how disconcerting it is that I allowed myself to get so big.

Over the years I've lost with Weight Watchers, Nutrisystems (at a Nutrisystem's locale with weekly weigh-ins and counseling), nutrition classes, weightloss programs at work sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, walking clubs, signing up for 5K walking events, etc. I've had ups and I've had downs... One thing I noticed on my 1 hour 45 minute bike ride and walk was that there were no kids out playing. The weather was beautiful. In the 70s when I started out. 83 by the time I got home. I think kids stay up late on the weekend, sleep in late, and when they do get up they play video games and watch cartoons or movies. Our kids need to be out playing.

We've got to do someth... Sat, 23 Sep 2017 15:29:51 EST Clean Teeth I went to the dentist today after work for my 6 month cleaning. Wish my teeth always felt like this! Thu, 21 Sep 2017 23:04:28 EST I Need to Get Focused I need to do what I know will help me lose. Track food while eating healthy and normal portion sizes while also tracking my daily exercise. Yesterday I counted walking at the geography conference as my exercise. Today I haven't exercised yet. I will need to do something! 🤹‍♀️ Sun, 17 Sep 2017 17:19:28 EST Topsy Turvy Week (in more than one way 🙃 but for this I mean the scale.) Confessions of Someone Who Weighs Herself Daily

Ok, I admit it, somedays I forget, or take a shower before I think about weighing, therefore I purposely do not weigh. 😉

I keep the same routine for morning weigh-in. I weigh myself sans větements de nuit (pajamas or sleepwear.)

So, this past week I was pleased to see the scale reach 174. But I don't log it until Sunday or Monday. Even then I only log it if I'm sure it sticks. So, I might even wait anothe... Sat, 9 Sep 2017 11:45:18 EST Don't Let the Words "Seated Chair" Fool You! Or Let's Get This Done! This morning I got in 41 min. of exercise before I left for work. I like to try to aim for an hour so what I don't get done in the morning I try to do late afternoon or evening. I ran errands after work and at home sat around hemming and hawing about the 19 min. Of exercise I needed in order to make my day's total 60 min.

Finally, with a burst of unexpected energy I said to myself, "Let's get this done."

I looked online and found a Jessica Smith Seated Chair video. ... I saw the total eclipse as seen in Oregon on the projector screen in the classrrom and the partial eclipse with special glasses from AZ. Both with my students. I have huge class.

The partial eclipse was really interesting! Seeing it in person makes a difference. No wonder people traveled to locations throughout the USA to see the total eclipse.

I definitely recommend the glasses. Be sure to purchase them from a reputable dealer.
<... Tue, 22 Aug 2017 01:41:45 EST I Made Pico de Gallo I love pico de gallo. I made a bowl today. It's so good. Except I didn't have any hot peppers like jalapeno. After eating out two dinners (what some people call suppers) in a row I somehow managed to show a 1 pound weight loss this morning. 590 After eating the sodium laden food two days in a row I thought this an impossibility!

I had a veggie burrito at Chipotle with friends Thurs. before an event at work. I tracked when I got home and found that burrito had 2310 mg. sodium. Good grief!!!! Chipotle, if you are reading this, do something!!!!!

Last night I joine... Sat, 19 Aug 2017 11:04:03 EST Chipotle So, we eat at Chipotle tonight. I haven't eaten there since I started tracking my food...again...last Jan.
I had wanted to go to Subway. Say what you will but since I'm not much of a meat eater I like their veggie sub (I choose the veggies I want and I have them double them: spinach, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, peppercinis, black olives) on 9 grain whole wheat.
I love provolone and pepper jack but I opt for Swiss as it has the lowest sodium. And I'd say it's significantly less. ... Fri, 18 Aug 2017 01:18:38 EST I Fit in Clothes I Wore 5 Years Ago! 224

I was planning to go to Goodwill today. It was 50% off day. Every other Saturday it is 50% off day. I thought I'd pick up a different top or two to wear as I'm transitioning to a lower size.

Instead I started to try on clothes from 2 closets. It was exhausting work. I figure I burned a few calories. I now have a huge pile to go to St. Vincent de Paul or Goodwill. Huge!

I found clothes I wore in our family photo for the parish directory ... Sun, 13 Aug 2017 00:03:10 EST New Christmas Goal with Three Options!!!! 😂 Ok, so, I sat down today and made a chart with 3 possible outcomes. If I lose 1/2 pound per week I can get down to 171. This is my REASONABLE GOAL because I am prone to plateaus.

My second option is losing 1 pound per week. This is my POSSIBLE GOAL. I have to be really diligent to get down to 162. It's possible I could do this.

The 3rd option, my DREAM GOAL, is to lose 2 pounds per week. That would get me to 143. 2 pounds a week was practical for me when I star... Mon, 7 Aug 2017 16:13:46 EST My Marble Jars

It was a tough July. I had to fight back from a 3.5 weight gain while on vacation. That came off relatively easy. Then felt like I was stuck at the weight I got down to first in June

Finally lost, half pound by half pound, 2.5 pounds.

The jar with more marbles shows the weight I've lost.
46 full pounds.

I read these words today:

I didn... Sun, 6 Aug 2017 14:01:22 EST The Mind: The Most Important Part of Weightloss I got to thinking about what helped me get back in the ZONE. That's what I call the mental state I must be in to even start a lifestyle change. (When I'm not in the ZONE I graze from the moment I get off work until bedtime and exercise is far from my mind--it's off in oblivion somewhere. By grazing, I don't mean salads and veggies, if you get my drift. I'm a self-described carboholic so you can imagine what I was putting away.

I'm not sure how I got back in the ZONE. Fri, 4 Aug 2017 18:27:59 EST Rainbow Photo I posted this photo last night on the community thread. All spring and summer I had been ruminating about how I hadn't seen a rainbow in ages. I mean years. Then yesterday evening I get out of my car and thankfully looked at the sky cuz it was very ominous as I left work. There had been an emergency storm and flash flood warning on the radio and on my cell phone as I headed home. The storm had hit the Papagos and Paradise Valley and was traveling at 10 miles per hour.

But by ... Fri, 4 Aug 2017 09:09:04 EST Can't move a marble with a .5 pound loss 😁 I think the half pound loss is set in stone now. After a Tuesday lunch with staff at a Mexican joint, with sodium and probably fat up the kazoo, I forgot (or unconsciously avoided) the scale Wed. Sodium does a number on me and I'm supposed to avoid it. I'm sure I would've been up Wed. with the water retention.

Today I got back on and I'm still a half pound less than weigh in last week. So, that's the good news.

Unfortunately, I can't move a marble in my vision jar.... Thu, 3 Aug 2017 09:56:11 EST Brussel Sprouts Someone posted a photo of roasted brussel sprouts on the community feed. I stopped and bought some after work today. I'm going to roast them. I roasted kale yesterday and posted it on the community feed.

Brussel sprouts have more vitamin C than oranges. They are low in calories. Tue, 1 Aug 2017 21:42:16 EST
