REDDEVILTJ's SparkPeople Blog REDDEVILTJ's Blog on SparkPeople, home of free diet plans and a healthy living community September! It's working now after a refresher on what used to work. Now, I'm down just a touch over 11 pounds. My first goal is 2 pounds away. There's always a method to my goals. I aim for one pound under a even number then aim again. This time it's 129. Once I get there I'll aim for 124 and so on. I don't see myself reaching the 114 I once enjoined 20-something years ago. Don't we look like a duo? Fri, 28 Aug 2015 17:02:59 EST July 2015 - Another Month Gone At least I can say I'm making progress this time. I've switched to a different approach for a few months to see if something can happen. I'm still stopping in here, reading e-mails and, when I get a chance, getting my log-in points.

Something was going wrong. Just tracking here wasn't working for me. So, I hopped on over to and bought a book. I learned a lot from the book. I learned that a lot of the other books that I bought weren't really meant for me.

... Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:00:31 EST A Wednesday in May 469
I am exhausted. Three hours of sleep last night. Between the water-obsessed dog and the husband who got home late, I was not able to get my sleep.
4:00 a.m. comes way too early.
Wed, 13 May 2015 12:58:24 EST Grrrrr 40
It's been a day.
When my dog woke me up this morning at 3:00 a.m. I was hoping that wasn't a sign.
Millie is on prozac. She has developed an obsession with drinking water. It doesn't matter where this water comes from. If it's there, she's got to taste it.
There is nothing physically wrong with her according to all the tests and hours she's spent at the vet's office. She has just developed an obsessive-compulsive behavior.
I understand now that it... Tue, 12 May 2015 10:01:47 EST Blooming Trees
Our apple and pear trees are flowering like crazy. We have some ornamental pears that smell really nasty while they're blooming. Pretty, but really stinky. They almost smell like something dead.

My test results came back. There is nothing wrong with me. I guess I'm gaining weight for no reason at all, then.

Does that mean I'm doomed to getting rounder as I get older? ... Mon, 11 May 2015 19:32:34 EST Progress? 40
Nope.
None.
141 days - 702115 steps. It should be higher but I just can't get the mileage in at work anymore. It's just not safe to be walking around where I once did. Maybe once all this Michigan rain is done I can do some parking lot walking.

We always get reports of pedestrians and forklifts coming in contact with each other. There are so many of them and they can't watch all of us. The report we received yesterday told of a pedestrian who step... Wed, 6 May 2015 07:50:01 EST Latest Method Not Working After two more weeks and larger size pants - all I've done is gone down two/gone back up two.
This is getting ridiculous. My husband is encouraging me to see my doctor to get tested once again for a thyroid issue. After all, for 10 years or so I was on synthroid. Those blood tests just got to be an inconvenience.

Just when I thought I could make a doctor's appointment, I get a letter in the mail from our insurance company listing my husband's doctor as my primary care phy... Fri, 27 Mar 2015 08:36:20 EST A New Weight Loss Trick

Has anyone else tried the "buy new pants in the next largest size" method of weight loss? Yesterday I sprung some hard-earned cash on three pairs of khakis so I won't be wearing corduroy pants all summer.

Not that I think I'll be stuck through the summer, but, I need something to wear now since it appears that my middle is really stubborn. Last summer I wore hoodies daily to hide the post-menopausal ... Sun, 15 Mar 2015 14:55:08 EST March 1, 2015 - 40,000 Spark Points

At first I wasn't interested in planting a garden this year. The past three years have been challenging due to weather and time. Then, there's the zucchini and tomatoes that just won't quit.

I'm starting small. Tomatoes and red bell peppers are in my small greenhouses over there by my window. I bought a dehydrator earlier this month so now, there are more possibilities.

On the Weight Front:... Sun, 1 Mar 2015 12:05:29 EST Can't Hide
When Millie sees the camera she tends to want to shy away from the impending flash. ;-)

Happy New Year to all of you here on SparkPeople.

Here's to hoping we all accomplish what we aim to do and come out a year from now in better health and happiness.

283 213
Thu, 1 Jan 2015 14:56:07 EST Ouch That's all I can say after weighing myself this morning. For months I was doing OK. Then, I relaxed and didn't exercise for one month. One month. That's all it took for me to gain 7 pounds. We added a new piece of gym equipment to our home gym collection yesterday - onward once again.
24 Mon, 3 Nov 2014 08:35:06 EST What is Going On Now?
It's been cold, snowy, warm, rainy, sorta-cold, cold, snowy and very windy.

In the meantime, I managed to fall into a snow pile in the driveway on a dark morning before work. My ribs hurt but they're OK. It's the muscles that I twisted. I can walk and use the eliptical with no pain, for the most part.

Housework hurts.

So, I'm not doing any - not today, anyway. Maybe tomorrow or the ... Sat, 18 Jan 2014 15:21:29 EST Grounded! I am out of Megabytes on my data plan. So, until I can get more I have to resort to sneaking on to the internet at work or just plain using an excel spreadsheet.
So, I won't be here again from home 'til Wednesday.
Being internetally grounded is no fun at all. I can't get my daily bonus points and I lose those trophy chances for consistency.
Sat, 11 Jan 2014 08:12:28 EST Awe, So Cute

Sure wish I could just hang around on the couch all day.
Thu, 26 Dec 2013 19:14:01 EST Merry Christmas Everyone! Here's to hoping everyone has a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
This year we're not giving each other gifts since we've had to spend a small fortune on consequential items that weren't planned.
See that nice new F150 in the photo?
After being left out in the cold by our F250 too many times in one month we decided that someone else might get along with it better. So, we went to the Ford dealer and found this one. So far, after two weeks, we're getting along rather well. ... Wed, 25 Dec 2013 08:50:19 EST November - Birthday Month!
So, I had a beer on my birthday. That's not really all that unusual except that I had a non-light version because I felt the need to support a Michigan brewery. These dark beers normally aren't my favorite, but, it seemed fitting.
I turned 56 on Monday, the 18th.
Now I am starting to experience first hand what happens to many of us females over the age of 50 - my middle is fighting back. I'm getting that mi... Thu, 21 Nov 2013 19:56:05 EST Treats!

I've been reading The Spark lately and have learned something important.
We need to learn how to have normal food and treat ourselves to foods we love from time to time.
So, I did. I still managed to get rid of the three pounds that I gained. The gain came while I was fighting through every day at 1200 calories and exercising. Apparently, that wasn't working so well for me.

That cheesecake w... Tue, 15 Oct 2013 20:25:13 EST End of September - 192,648 Steps, that is. I'm slowing down.
So, for October I need to get more walking in at work since that's where most of my steps come from.
Over the weekend I went for a speed walk out in our woods. Since our property is 1/2 mile from the road to the back it's an excellent way to get an extra mile or two in.
I just need to beware of spider webs in the trees. They get pretty sticky. Mon, 30 Sep 2013 19:55:36 EST Apples!

I'm not usually a fan of autumn since that means winter is lurking right around the corner. What I do like about this time of year are the apples, squashes and cider.

No, I don't like the cider. I do like going to places that sell it, though.

Wed, 18 Sep 2013 19:15:58 EST Yellow! Yellow seems to be the theme around here lately. Brown eyed Susans, Goldenrod, soy bean plants and some of the leaves.
It's not time yet for the trees to change but I suppose with the recent dryness that could happen.
Yesterday we had lots of storms here in SE MI. I think we're in for another one in just a short time this evening. The skies are dark and there's thunder.
Yesterday I took advantage of the heavy storms to go in the basement and dye some more yarn - not yellow, t... Thu, 12 Sep 2013 18:55:06 EST Wow, September 2013

I can't remember the last time I posted here. Oh, now I see, March 2012. Have I been that bad?
I strayed off to the WW site and rejoined and spent a bunch of money.
I tried and found it to be too time consuming because none of my foods were there.
So, back to my old favorite. Why did I leave? I have no idea.

The photo that I'm sharing is from last Sunday's 2nd Annual Canada... Sun, 8 Sep 2013 09:28:37 EST It really is Spring!
Sadly, these tiny jonquils have already faded. I took this photo on 3/22 and the next day they were sad. I did take a "sad" photo as well since it is all part of nature's process.

It was an "almost disappointing" week weight-wise. All last week my boss kept telling me that I appeared to be losing weight. Actually, I had been stuck at the exact same weight for over 2 months - 131.4. That's the way it alway... Sat, 24 Mar 2012 09:25:39 EST Playing with my New Camera

That's sorta what I was doing there. That shot was taken right after we pulled out of the parking lot of - well, er - yep, the DQ.

My husband was in the mood for ice cream then decided he really was in the mood for a DQ Blizzard. Thank goodness - or thank the DQ - for the small Blizzard. They are tasty and, to me, worth the sacrifice of a few calories each day before or after the trip.

Tue, 6 Mar 2012 18:52:58 EST Dead Camera This is pretty much what I'm seeing when I use my Sony a100 DSLR this week. I know that the flu that I caught from my husband had my eyes out of focus for over a week, but, my camera usually doesn't depend on me for focusing.
It's so upsetting to someone with a camera addiction to have one give up on life. So, what do you do?
Order a new one!
I can pick it up tomorrow or Monday and I'll be back in business. ... Sat, 18 Feb 2012 13:32:30 EST February 2012
So far, it's been not all that bad. That's until this past week when I caught a cold that my husband and his co-workers were sharing with each other while they were working down in Mexico. How could they bring that back with them?
Now, if it was just a head cold it would be better. But NO, it has to have an annoying cough as well. One of those coughs that makes me feel like I'm going to turn inside out and cough... Sat, 11 Feb 2012 14:13:09 EST Strange Winter We're Having Here
When we got snow last weekend I made sure I took some photos since it's been so rare. I heard the other day that we've had a total of 6" so far this year. It's snowing right now but should end and warm up.
I've also managed to lose a pound or two this winter. Kinda odd since I sorta stopped working out when it got cold in the basement. No, that really wasn't what made me stop since I don't mind at all working ... Sat, 28 Jan 2012 08:46:40 EST I scored a 95!
No, that photo doesn't have anything to do with my score of 95. I just haven't been taking many photos in the past couple weeks - well, I have but haven't uploaded them to my computer.
What's with that?
At work, we have to participate in a Wellness Program for our insurance company. We don't have to but that means we'll be paying higher premiums. So, we were weighed, measured, and had blood drawn. My blood ... Sun, 18 Dec 2011 11:31:08 EST It's That Time of Year
He's everywhere watching us to see if we're naughty or nice. This guy was waving to passersby on Thanksgiving. I think I drive right past him everyday on my way to work but I don't notice since I'm paying attention to the traffic.
This past week I was weighed, measured, had blood drawn for our Wellness program through work. My blood pressure is down since my last screening so that's a good thing.
I will keep... Sat, 3 Dec 2011 17:56:41 EST Into October Once again I have been internet-ally challenged. I have been managing to at least track my foods but that's just about it. Yesterday I couldn't even get a single word to post to facebook, but, I did manage to edit and add a blog entry on my other blog. Wierd.
This morning it's working so I'll type fast.
My weight loss journey has been way up then sorta back down so I haven't even tracked my pounds. When it gets below what I last tracked I'll make a change. I started trying a di... Sun, 9 Oct 2011 10:09:20 EST Rain
We sure got some yesterday. The temperatures were so miserable that I was working up a sweat just knitting on the porch in the shade.
I stuck to my calorie limit yesterday even though there was a constant threat of a Flurry in the air. A Flurry is our local ice cream shop's version of a Blizzard. I do try to limit myself to one small one per month. They're about to close, though, so I often feel the need to "sto... Sun, 4 Sep 2011 07:57:43 EST Old. Really Old.
Yes, there are some things out there that are older than me.
I tried to upload a photo from this same tractor show the other day and nothing would happen. That's the same day I tried adding a photo to the Jeep facebook page. My photo ended up in the right place but my comment to go with it ended up in a totally different "conversation". At least it was with someone I knew.
198 Thu, 1 Sep 2011 20:19:46 EST What Happened In August? A few things. We saw old trucks, tractors, and cars. The most unusual were the antique travel trailers and motor homes. Who would have thought?

Now, for the "regular food" approach?

Nothing happened there. Well, maybe something did but it didn't affect the scale at all. I still weigh exactly what I did one month ago - right to the 10th of a pound. How does that happen?

Tue, 30 Aug 2011 17:50:46 EST What a day...
It's so funny how dogs can get that "look" about them. You know the one that makes you think they've had a bad day or they're underfed or didn't get enough outside time.
This one, Mildred Violet, is so good as giving us that look.
We got this one as we were walking out the door on Sunday morning to go get those blueberry pancakes that I look forward to. Yep, about once every 3 months I treat myself to some b... Wed, 27 Jul 2011 17:26:59 EST New Photos
My Snapfish order arrived this week so I'm posting them here and there like I usually do. This one is from my supersampler which has 4 lenses lined up like this "oooo". Each lens operates separate from the previous so, if your subject is moving, it's like a little slide show.
I also have one with 8 lenses and I just finished a roll with that one.
Stay tuned, more to come. Sat, 23 Jul 2011 10:12:12 EST Mystery Berries

These are growing on several of the bushes that are along the edge of our property. I don't recall seeing them last year but that doesn't mean they weren't there.

Anyone know what they might be? I looked at a gardening site and didn't find anything there and that's as far as I've gotten.

With this hot weather I'm starting to feel like a camel again. I'm drinking water and seem to be stori... Tue, 19 Jul 2011 17:41:11 EST Odd One <img src=""
So I tracked my breakfast this morning and a little while later I clicked to see what my nutritional values were for yesterday.
Odd thing is that my calorie count for today's breakfast is the same number as the sodium intake - 247.
Is there a lottery I can play? Sun, 17 Jul 2011 09:07:31 EST It's a Hot One I have been working on cleaning the house all day today.

Sure, I have.

We went out on the lake to do some fishing. Steve did, I knitted. No fish out there. I think they were all used up already. So, we came home. I did some cleaning, 2 loads of laundry, and the dishes. Now, since it's so hot that's all I want to do.

I wanted to upload a real exciting photo and I found the cantaloupe shot from earlier this week. There's a lot less of it now since I've ... Sat, 16 Jul 2011 14:40:15 EST This Is a Challenge!
What is this challenge you ask? This weighing and measuring and eating the good stuff and not the food that I got used to eating when my husband was doing the shopping and cooking. Even he's participating.
The worse part is that my day is so long and time between meals seems to last forever.
For example: Breakfast is at 5:15 a.m., 1st break at work is 9:00. That's a long time, if you ask me. Lunch is at n... Tue, 12 Jul 2011 19:40:41 EST Veggie Garden 2011
So far, it's not going so well. This is an older photo since I haven't uploaded the most recent one yet. What's taking me so long? I'm getting photo-lazy. I think the Project 365 wore me out already this year. Last year I was up to date everyday. This year I upload a week's worth in one day.
Oh well.
So far the "old fashioned" eating is working out for me. I did manage to lose what I gained over the 4th ... Mon, 11 Jul 2011 18:53:14 EST I can do it!
After just 3 days of eating normal I have managed to lose the poundage that I had gained while on our short trip to the UP. So, now that I've got that out of the way it's time to stick with the plan and lose some more.
All year long I've been pretty much at the exact same weight. Once I hit a number it sticks for months and I mean right to the 10th of a pound.
One other committment that I am going to stick to... Sun, 10 Jul 2011 09:31:05 EST Summer Has Arrived! Oh No.
Steve and I took a trip to the UP over the Fourth of July weekend. It was intended to be a relaxing 4 day trip, however, 16 hours of the 4 days were spent driving since it takes us 8 hours to get to our rustic hide-away in the woods. I'll share a photo in a minute.
When we arrived we were greeting by bugs. Lots of bugs. Any bug that ever lived in the UP had created millions or billions of off-spring and they wer... Sat, 9 Jul 2011 09:43:01 EST Look What Popped UP
We actually had a warm day this week - all the way to 60 degrees. I took my knitting, a cup of coffee, a cat, dog, and my camera outside. I sat down, started knitting and this little yellow spot caught my eye.
It's rather encouraging. Sat, 16 Apr 2011 08:41:41 EST 2011 Garden Time
It's finally spring here in Michigan. We think so anyway.
Yesterday was opening day for the Tigers and they won.
The Red Wings lost. Oh well. I think the Pistons were sold.
Lions? We can hope.

I bought several seed starting trays this year with these little "plugs". It only took about 4 days before I had plants popping up so now I'm hoping I didn't start too early.

Two of the t... Sat, 9 Apr 2011 07:31:01 EST Weaving
I pulled out the loom and decided to give it another try. It's not a difficult hobby, just challenging when you haven't used it in years. The weaving that was on it since somewhere around 2005 has been finished. The warp threads for the next project are almost ready. Last Sunday I thought they were but as I started weaving I noticed that 3 yarns were crossed over each other.
It doesn't work well that way.
Sun, 20 Feb 2011 13:40:07 EST Socks!
I've been away from the internet and SparkPeople for a couple weeks now since a certain husband named Steve used up all of our Megabites only 2 weeks into our month. Now, I'm back. However, he's sharing my aircard again which means I'm still on limited usage since he can't seem to control himself.
I wonder if there's a form of husband-blocking similar to the parental controls. He claims his computer just download... Sat, 15 Jan 2011 08:05:13 EST November has Arrived
Believe it or not, I haven't taken a single photo this month so far. I better do something about that since I'm already a day behind in my flickr Project 365. That's not good.
I also haven't really tracked much of my food consumption over the past month. There really isn't a particular reason for that other than I just plain didn't do it. My work-week menu is the same everyday and dinner usually consists of some... Tue, 2 Nov 2010 07:43:57 EST OK now....

We went out to the garden Friday evening and picked what looked ready. Since we had over a month of dryness there are some odd looking veggies out there. Our eggplant are small and wierd-shaped. The celery is really skinny. It's been raining the past couple days so I'm hoping the celery might plump up.
The tomatoes appear to be just about done and were rather small this year.
We didn't get as much squ... Sun, 19 Sep 2010 09:16:05 EST Vegetable Season

Zucchini
It's everywhere - in my garden, in my garage, on the kitchen counter, in the refrigerator and in my freezer.
There is a chocolate zucchini cake recipe out there somewhere that I can't seem to find. If anyone out there can tell me where it is or can share it I'd sure be grateful.
Sat, 14 Aug 2010 20:57:49 EST It's August
Hey! It's August. The summer is just flying by. Well, for some people. For others we're just sweating like crazy. With this humidity that has been going along with the heat it's often rather unpleasant. There are days when I can't tell if I'm having a 24-hour hotflash or if it's the weather.
To add to all of this heat I also encountered something in my flower bed that's causing an itchy situation. It started ... Sat, 7 Aug 2010 08:40:52 EST July!
Have I really been away from my SP blog for that long? I have been having trouble with my blogger blog (!) and found out it was because I chose to use the "new improved" editor and it just wasn't working out for me.
Since June I've moved to another assignment at work. The 2nd shift assignment didn't happen for me. A co-worker was relocated due to some issues so I was chosen to take over. It's a building (actuall... Sat, 24 Jul 2010 11:44:12 EST
